Spying the strawberries, Athena smiled gratefully, whispering, "Thank you thank you thank you!" before gobbling them up.

Ophiuchus looked down at his lesson plan again. "Ah, no, sorry to disappoint, this week you're focusing on healing. How much do you all know about herbs so far anyways?" Some of the students sat up, others looked completely clueless. "Maybe you know what plants pharmacies put in their drugs? There's actually not a lot of magic involved in this."

Athena sighed, disappointed. She didn't really know very much about herbs. Well, actually, she knew that she'd be able to identify them once she learned their smell, but that was really it. And she'd probably curl up or faint or freak out in general if they had to deal with something strong-smelling.

Jewlet stopped and looked up at Ophiuchus. Part of her was already annoied because of the overly cheery personalities that were in the room. She shook her head to see how some of her classmates reacted when they heard the word, explosives. She went back to writing waitting for something that would spark her interest.

She smiled slightly at Athena, glad she could help.
Lin then sat up in interest when she heard what her professor said. They WERE going to study healing! When she heard the question he asked, she raised her hand.
When she was called on, she smiled politely and happily and said, "Well, I do not know much about Western herbs or medicines, but where I am from, mint is a common ingredient in medicine. It calms the stomach and helps with the taste. Dragon scales and dragon tears are also common in more extreme medicine when someone is deathly ill or wounded. The dragon scales are great to repair the body's defenses and increase their immune system since dragon scales are the most powerful, tough magical substance there is. Since they are so tough, though, the tears are used to break down the scales, making them easier to digest. The tears are the only things able to break down the scales."
She was going to keep going, talk about other common herbs and medicines, but she stopped herself so that she would not fill the entire class with her words. She wanted to learn.

Ophiuchus nodded solemnly throughout Lin's speech, while some of the students looked on in envy and awe at the elf's knowledge. "Mint, yes. And several others. Sometimes you will need magic to prepare them and other times you just need a pint of water. Venom is also know to strengthen the effects of some concoctions."

NeoNeon Ophiuchus nodded solemnly throughout Lin's speech, while some of the students looked on in envy and awe at the elf's knowledge. "Mint, yes. And several others. Sometimes you will need magic to prepare them and other times you just need a pint of water. Venom is also know to strengthen the effects of some concoctions." This must be a method that was just present in Western medicine. She had never heard that before. Very curious and excited, she raised her hand again. Once called, she asked, "How can venom, a poison, actually strengthen medicine and not harm the people taking it, sir?"

Ophiuchus shrugged. "In some cases, there's an interspecies boundary that prevents the venom from affecting certain animals. Maybe the venom has been filtered. Maybe it was venom from a naga or serpent, and has powerful healing abilities."

Lin's pen was flying furiously over her notebook on her desk. This was fascinating! Oh she wanted to pick her professor's brain about everything!
However, her hand wasn't attached to the pen. It was writing on its own. She wasn't doing it to show off. It was something that all the students at Bai Ching did. Each student at the beginning of the school year got a large bundle of enchanted pens that would take notes for them. This was so that their hands wouldn't get cramped or blistered from writing so much. They would remain dainty and ladylike, as a well-bred lady's hands were supposed to be.

Athena, on the other hand, wasn't such a studious person. Or, rather, it didn't seem like she was. She took small, vague notes that really only she would understand enough to decipher the meaning of.

Ophiuchus continued his monologue on healing with herbs. "Herbs have many uses, such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, pain killers, fever reducers, energy boosters, wound cauterization, and even birth control. The plants don't even have to be magical if you know the proper chemical composition." He took a breath, waiting for the students to take notes like Lin. "Well, what are you waiting for? Write!" After shooting some dirty looks at Lin, the students took out papers, pencils, and pens, and began to write. Or doodle. Not that Ophi cared. He wasn't their teacher, anyways. "On the other hand, there are magical herbs that cure magical afflictions like jinxes and weak curses. Said herbs can also be dangerous or helpful to magical creatures such as werewolves, vampires, dragons, zombies, fairies, et cetera...." His voice carried hints of passion that came with someone who was a healer by trade.

At this, Lin grew quite curious. She raised her hand. "Sir, why would there be any medicines for creatures such as vampires and werewolves? Why would anyone want to cure such dark, evil beings?"

Night shot up at the comment "what the hell are you talking about ... crap she can't hear me." he sighed falling back and appeared to be sitting in an invisible chair. "hey could you smack her for me?" he said to ophi pointing at Lin.

Ophiuchus just chuckled at Night's antics. "Lin Yin, do you want to be a healer? Do you even understand the trials of a healer?" He lifted his right hand, and a great staff materialized in front of him, floating, with two carved snake encircling it, and topped with a pair of wings. "When there are lives at stake, you can't be picky."

Athena raised her hand curiously. "What herbs are harmful to a kitsune-human or an inu-human?" She'd have to be sure to stay away from those...
