Well, that's a bit of a letdown. Oh well, though. O.o Oooo... Thanks much for that, I thought the ending was really vague.

Poor Dumbledore senior. I would have blasted the crap out of a the entire city, if that was my daughter.

"Happy birthday, Harry! I give you...SEX!"
Also, did anyone else catch the link between the symbol for the Hallows and the swastika?

AllianceSJR Did JKR go there? Was Ariana Dumbledore raped by muggles? Oh.My.GOD. Is that what she was implying? I thought the people who were tormenting her were also children and that they were just throwing things at her!

Hard to say one way or the other, and I doubt Rowling would say anything one way or the other.
Grindelwald is/was the Hitler of the HP world. His intentions were for the betterment of the wizard community, at the cost of non wizarding life, which was regarded as quite low in the scheme of things. The symbol of the hallows echoes both the swastika and any of the various masonic signs floating around.

Arcadian I don't see it. does not look like I didn't mean in terms of appearance. I meant the deeper connections between Grindelwald and Hitler. Both used older symbols - that had been associated with good things - as their own, which turned their associations in people's minds into something darker and more sinister. Both are symbols of spirituality that were transformed into symbols of strength and oppression.

Tagra Nar I thought we were supposed to find out why Lily was so special. Was the whole thing with Snape supposed to be why? Nah. We found out that she was morally upright for all of her life that we ever see. James, who's been held up as a paragon by some (and certainly Harry for a long while) doesn't hold a candle to her. That's what makes Lily "special". She valued friendship, but not above morality, and even when deeply hurt by a childhood friend she remains compassionate but firm. She kicks a**.

So, I greatly underestimated the last book. I thought I would hate it, but ended up staying up until 5 am to finish it. sweatdrop
EDIT: During the whole scene recounting Snapes memories, I was wishing so hard he would have turned out to be Harry Potter's real father. It would have been the most awesome twist ever, and totally unexpected to him since he's constantly told how much he was like James.
Anyway, that was my biggest thought. That, and really only one death was given justice. Poor Dobby. crying I totally thought Haggrid would die, not him. Because all older male role models of Harry must die!

AllianceSJR Did JKR go there? Was Ariana Dumbledore raped by muggles? I don't think so somehow. "Muggle boys," coupled with the concept of them raping a six year old. "They got a little bit carried away," really doesn't shout, "they raped her to get her to show them the magic trick again," to me.

But raping just to get her to show a magic trick again... No, that doesn't sound too believable. confused I guess they just beat her up real badly?

Sandraugiga Umm... Six year olds can get raped. Age has nothing to do with it. I agree; that's not the point I was making. The issue is of whether a six year old would be raped by (young, I assume) boys as a literary (plot) device, especially one so out of tune with the rest of the series.
