Taking a bite of her food, Kohaku closed her eyes in delight. After many years of practicing the particular recipe, she had finally made it the way she liked. Volpeo seemed to be enjoying it as well. Hearing his compliment had somewhat surprisingly made her very happy. "Thank you. I'm glad you like it." she said. Looking out into the garden as they ate was peaceful. Something about Volpeo being in his humanoid form, rather than his kitsune cub form, was curiously peaceful. "You know. It's strange lately. Not as many people have been coming through this realm, save for that school's students who come here time to time to get to their mission. It's just so quiet..."









Spells/Powers:
+ Kagura – Kohaku performs a few hand signals that will allow her to do one of three things:
- Surround herself with a magical energy. Performing this version will heal her (or others).
- Gain a momentary defensive barrier. It will withstand a few hits before it dispels.
- Gain a significant attack boost (Only lasts about 5 posts).
+ Spirit Familiar - Kohaku can summon a spirit familiar (usually a fox) to come to her aid. The familiar only lasts for a limited period of time (10 to 15 posts).
+ Healing - Kohaku can restore living things to their optimal health, curing broken or withered plants, wounds, broken bones, and low vitality. She can’t raise the dead.
+ Nature Manipulation - Kohaku can control/tap into elements of nature, including air, fire, water, earth, etc. Her strength is in water and ice. Use of other elements will quickly exhaust her.
+ Light energy - Kohaku can manipulate light and attack opponents with concentrated balls or beams of light energy. It's rather weak but good for melee.

                          Taking note on Kohaku's observation Volpeo turned around, not even the familiar dared to make a noise. Barely anything beyond their voices could be heard. Perhaps the chirp from a sparrow at times. This place did seem to be peaceful, but also lonely.
                          "It's my first time here, so I can't really argue that point. I love quiet places. But, should I assume this place used to be more lively?"
                          Asked Volpeo, curious about the matter, the way Kohaku made it sound pointed that this place used to be some sort of public shrine.
                          "What is this shrine meant for? if I can ask you that."
                          Because of the obvious reasons during the first steps of their relationship, the last question that hit the kitsune's mind the purpose or meaning of this shrine. But now with his mind clear he could start wondering about this place.
                          Not much information was revealed with his memories, since most of it was chasing toys, the other familiar and ... other stuff. Much to his embarrassment.

At Volpeo's question, Kohaku slowly closed her eyes, and remembered the life that this Shrine once had. Back when she was not the only one left - when there was her family and an entire army at her side. How fast centuries had passed since then. "There was still much mystery about the netherworld back then. This shrine was the only physical gateway between the netherworld and earth. To many men in my time, it was a symbol of power that many were willing to die for. Tales and legends of powerful beings coming through the shrine's gates captivated men and instigated war. Others believed the beings to be the gods and came to pray to them. My family, sworn to protect the truth of the shrine, let them believe what they wanted. Time had passed, war had killed my family, and I was the only one left to protect this place. Ever since then, this place is rarely used. It stands merely as a historic artifact. But given that I am still here, I would venture to say that a day might come where I am truly needed as its last defender." she replied thoughtfully.

                          Volpeo Listened as Kohaku explained the tales of the old times in which this shrine shined with life and prosperity.
                          How the avarice and curiosity of men kept this shrine through the centuries, because of the power it represented as the link between two worlds.
                          He observed the shrine for a moment, he could have sworn he saw something moving, but he shrugged the feeling off while turning back his eyes to meet with Kohaku.
                          There was a nostalgic semblance on the maiden's face, as if she literally travelled through time as she told the story.
                          To have lost her family to war, made the kitsune to soften just a bit to her.
                          After all no child should lost their parents. To think she was the only one left in this place, taking the familiars aside.
                          Perhaps it was fated for them to meet one another. So that he may keep her company.
                          Volpeo would wait for her to finish her story, not particularly impressed but rather proud to hear she would stand as the shrine's last defender should the need arise.
                          That was something he could relate to. After all the kitsunes, and his village in particular were quite a proud race. And never back from fights when the need to defend their beliefs was tested.
                          As such, it was something he could see Kohaku as an equal.
                          "I believe you. But, just in case. If you ever find yourself standing as the shrines defender. I wouldn't mind if I get summoned back."
                          Said Volpeo, as if believing they would manage to break the pact. None the less even if they didn't he would still stand by her side and defend her precious memories.
                          "Well it's getting dark, we should call it a day."
                          But just as the light faded off, Volpeo's ears twitched as he turned quickly at the Shrine. But there was no one there. Frowning lightly, he shrugged it off for the moment. But would make sure to patrol the halls.
                          "C'mon, you need to sleep so you can grow healthy"
                          Said the kitsune, still thinking of Kohaku as a younger person.

                          Unknown to both of them Volpeo did sensed something, which now lurked in the shadows of the building, waiting patiently, hungering.

"Thank you, Volpeo. I appreciate your support." Kohaku was glad they seemed to be on much better terms. He was actually listening instead of yelling at her and accusing her of ridiculous things. If it was like this all the time, she wouldn't mind being him around him often as their contract would have it. But apparently, the tense atmosphere that had initially existed was practically non existent enough that he would willingly come back. If she could ever be of help to him, she supposed she would do the same. As Volpeo suggested they go inside, insisting it was for her health, Kohaku couldn't help but laugh a little. He still believed her to be younger but if it placated him, she would leave it be. Maybe it was just nature's call for him to be like that. "Alright, alright. I'm going." she said getting up, not doubting that he could, and probably would, throw her over his shoulder to carry her in if she resisted. Seeing him pause and frown for a moment, she tilted her head to the side. "Something wrong?"

                          The kitsune paused for a moment when Kohaku asked if there was something wrong. He thought about it carefully, but since he didn't confirmed nothing he dodged the subject.
                          "Oh it's nothing, I thought I heard something. It must be that I'm tired as well. We should keep going."
                          Stated the kitsune, placing a gentle push upon the maiden's back with his hand as he insisted on retreating to Kohaku's chamber.
                          "So, these spirits what was their nature? What kind of super natural beings crossed trough that shrine anyways?"
                          He asked out of curiosity while stepping into Kohaku's room despite saying that he would not share the night with her.
                          And while he tried his best not to, he had to inspect the room once more just to make sure there weren't secret entrances.

                          Meanwhile they were followed from the shadows, under the familiar's noses as the invader could also perceive their presence which helped him hide his.
                          Examining the pair and the familiar, the mysterious presence would evaluate them both, but so far held a particular interest for the maiden.

"Alright, if you say so." Kohaku said putting the subject to rest. Even so, now that Volpeo was practically itching to look over his shoulder every other second, she felt wary herself. Could he be sensing something that she couldn't? Whatever was, hopefully it wasn't a completely bad feeling. Finally having arrived in her room, she plopped down comfortably on a cushion, hugging another pillow to her body. "Well, just about anything. In recent memory, mostly witches and wizards. I remember a lot of demons used to use cross through. But it's really open to anyone...unless they pose a great danger of course. That's only happened once and hopefully won't ever happen again."

                          "Yeah, hopefully it wont happen."
                          Said Volpeo after inspecting the girls room. It would appear everything was clear.
                          "Alright, then get some rest. We could hear some more of it in the morning."
                          Said Volpeo who exited the room shortly after to take a nap by the halls.

                          On the meantime something passed the kistune at supersonic speed, before hiding beneath the maiden's bed. Waiting for the opportune moment.

"Alright. Goodnight, Volpeo-san." she said before shuffling over to her bed. What worried Kohaku right now was the overly cautious way he was acting. Seriously? What was he sensing that she wasn't? She would hate to think she was off her game, shuddering at the thought it was even related to her age. The thought pestered her as she lay quietly in bed. Did she just feel a breeze? Sitting up slightly, she saw that none of the doors were open and dismissed it as a draft before drifting off into a light sleep.

Just when the maiden went back into bed, and her head rested upon her pillow. The eyes closing would become the green light for the dubious presence haunting the bottom of the bed.
A pair or blue eyes would summon their gaze from the dark bellow the bed.
The figure would crawl out from it's hideout, his very motions silent as the grave.
Regaining a human shape, Armand would rise from the floor to laid his crystal gaze upon the maiden's figure.
A neutral expression would be cast just as soon as his eyes met Kohaku. Her sleep appeared to be just blooming, better be cautious on every step.
He would then gaze upon the door, since he knew that pesky vigilant would not let him be.
But his hunger from the long trip forced Armand to be just a little hastier than usual. And with Swift move he would turn back at Kohaku, checking on her slumber as it was a vital fact so that the vigilant would not be alarmed.
Just as he did, he could sense the maiden's pulse, her beating heart was like a joyous melody to heard, he knew the precious liquid flowed through her veins.
Just as soon as he could tell She was dreaming by the REM, Armand would lean closer, and closer he became, extending his fang while his lips approached for the maiden's neck.
Should Kohaku not react in time, he would reach for her neck and extract the precious blood he desperately needed.

The fangs would carry a particular poison that would act as an anesthetic to ease the pain.

Unaware of the invasive presence in her room, Kohaku continued to sleep peacefully. As peacefully as an active sleeper could anyway. One arm there, a leg kick there, a little roll - she was practically working out in her sleep. Anyone he didn't know of this unconscious habit was likely to be alarmed. Her brothers when they were still alive would complain of her constant movement when they shared a futon on trips. With the way she was moving, it was almost like her body was conscious of her surroundings and ready to fight.

The vampire was just as close to his goal, but in a matter of seconds he would barely evade the first strikes from the maiden as she appeared to be performing some sort of martial art.

Armand barely gasped and for just a moment was about to grunt about it when he saw the erratic moves which followed Kohaku's first attacks.
This would leave the vampire confused as if Kohaku made those moves on purpose or was some sort of coincidence, none the less it was best to keep himself calm not to alert the vigilant or the familiar.
What a troublesome Maiden she was.

Armand walked gently around the bed as if to test Kohaku's actual awareness.
After all he would still observe the REM in the maiden's eyes which was a key factor for him to keep the idea she was still somehow asleep. But was she trained on the Sleeping Fist?
He barely had any room for thoughts as he felt his hunger increasing. Meaning that it would take long before his stomach would growl. Which he intended to prevent.

Once again, when the maiden showed a hint of an opening. Armand would take his chance and try to capture Kohaku to bite her neck.

Kohaku began making movements as if she were looking for something. No one was quite sure why she made the movements she did. They simply happened without explanation. After 400 years, one would think such things would have ceased but the years have done nothing to erase the habit. Unfortunately for Armand, Kohaku suddenly made a grab for him and hugged him tight by the arm like a teddy bear. She began making incoherent noises and mumbles, settling back somewhat peacefully, only rubbing her legs every once in a while.

The vampire extended his fangs, charging against the maiden's neck, Armand was certain he would get Kohaku this time, but just as the first time, he was caught off guard, and with a reversal move, he would find himself bitting the maiden's pillow while trapped against the bed. On top of that, his arm was immobilized by Kohaku, who apparently claimed it as hers already.
Should he move it, he would surely alert the girl therefore his arm was now good as gone.
The uncomfortable position wasn't helping either, since his fangs were stuck on the pillow while Kohaku cling by his arm, occasionally rubbing her knees against his leg and waist while they rubbed against one another.

The worst had yet to come for poor Armand. Some may say it was all karma coming for him in the most unlikely of ways. As if the final blow to their "fight," Kohaku rolled over and tumbled to the ground from the bed, bringing the perpetrator down with her. And even the fall had failed to wake her up, although the noise was most likely loud enough for a certain kitsune outside to hear.
