"You look smug." H'ate spoke a grin playing across her lips as she looked at her indeed very darkly smug looking blue. In fact it was possibly the most amused H'ate had ever seen Comateth short of him tearing into a freshly caught wherry.
I assure you Mine I am not smug. I am merely enjoying the show~ He replied the warlike blue all, but crooning his words in his riders mind which of course only made H'ate more suspicious. Not that Comateth minded, his rider had a mind like a steel trap and a nose for trouble and these were some of the precise reasons he'd chosen her. If she happened to pick up on his tricks all the better though sometimes he wished she'd at least wait until he was done setting them.
"You mean the hatching." H'ate replied matter of factly as she arched a brow at her dragon getting the distinct feeling it wasn't really the hatching he was enjoying.
Of course H'ate was right, but that didn't stop Comateth from dismissing the notion with a flick of a tail. No it wasn't the hatching per-say that he was enjoying so much as the gradually growing looks of annoyance and impatiences that flickered across one certain candidates face. Zofer, the very name made Comateth's eyes whirl a touch red. That boy was not nearly good enough for his rider, not that Zofer realized it. No Zofer thought he should rule the whole of Pern, the cocky self absorbed~
"Comateth what on Pern are you getting so riled about? Don't tell me one of those dimwits of a green is trying to tease you again?" H'ate asked her eyes softening with concern as her dragon's anger flooded over her. It was a familiar feeling, but one she tried to control. However with a dragon with a temper like hers there wasn't much that could be done.
No. He answered his reply clipped and sharp. Noticing H'ate's eyes narrow with suspicion he thought better of his answer.
I simply let my temper get out of check. Don't worry yourself Mine. Comateth added hoping to throw his rider off his trail. Shaking her head H'ate let out a sigh leaning against her dragons side. She'd forgone closer seats to stick close to her beloved blue. Seeing as Zofer was standing this time she suspected trouble after all a blind man could see Comateth despised the candidate.
"Just enjoy the hatching. It's a time of new life for the Weyr." She replied rehashing what the other riders had so often said about hatchings even as Comateth wrapped a wing around her pulling her close in a half hug puffing himself up as he noticed Zofer glancing their way.

Zofer
Did it get cold in here? It couldn't be. They were pretty much at the center of an ancient volcano, the heat from the earth beneath them was hot enough to make his skin bead with sweat.
Then why did he have a horrible chill tracing it's way up his spine. Suspicious grey eyes darted across the candidates, leaving the bronze hatchling for the first time since he emerged from his shell. Instinct was telling him of danger. Not from the hatchlings unbonded, but elsewhere.
Each of the boys around him was inspected... and ignored. None of them were a threat to him. He was obviously top dog in this pack. He turned to look at the girls in their line. None seemed particularly interesting, at least, not in this way. Not her, not her...He snorted. Certainly not HER. No none of them...
Well. One of them. He had to stare every time he saw her. How could you not? She was freakishly huge. Taller than even his parents, and they were tall folk! She of course had to wear her hair in that stupidly long braid. Would they make her cut it if she Impressed? Would she Impress? It'd be hilarious to watch her walk off the Sands with that tiny green wandering out there. Zofer bit back another snort. Shoot. Girl should be a miner or a wherhandler. Not a baker.
His search for the source of his discomfort, and even the hatchlings, were forgotten at he mused about the life choices of by far the strangest woman he'd ever seen.
How did you get a boyfriend when you looked like that anyways? Riding a dragon may be the only way she'd get laid.

Ashlyn
There was so much going on, Ashlyn's head was spinning just trying to keep track of it all. She had been able to avoid the Wild dog dragon from knocking her over and watched as the green impressed to one of the other girls. She smiled softly, having said her own congratulations, before turning her attention back to the other dragons and eggs. She saw the bronze looking over at the boys and could see he was sizing them up, probably trying to make sure he picked the right boy. She managed to catch sight of the blue dragon from time to time, wondering if he he would go to his rider. She still couldn't help but feel sorry for him. In her mind, she urged the dragon to find his rider, she didn't want any of these beauties to go without impressing, the thought saddened her. She caught the curious brown looking among the eggs and she managed a smile.
Then her eyes were drawn to two more eggs starting to break and reveal the dragons within. She saw a brown dragon emerge and she nodded her approval, this was a strong one. Then her eyes went to the smaller green and she saw how small she appeared to be. Her eyes showed momentary sympathy, hoping the small one was alright and not sick. When she saw it starting to move, she smiled, seeing know it was healthy. So it was just small, sometimes big things come in small packages, she reminded herself.

To say Rissa was enjoying the hatching was an understatement. She truly was having a wonderful time watching the eggs and dragons and with the first impression her mood only seemed to improve. That didn't however stop the niggling feeling that she was being stared at.
True Rissa was used to odd glances and looks for her towering stature, but out right stares were just rude. The fact that one of the boys was blantantly disregarding the eggs to do so just made it ruder as half turning Rissa arched a brow at the Zofer giving him a look that clearly said 'what'cha staring at?' before sticking her tongue out at him and giving the boy a playful wink and a grin.
Let em stare. She was more woman then he could handle anyway.

Zofer blinked in surprise when she winked, his face twisting into a shocked grimace. He looked back to the hatchlings quickly and suppressed a shudder. Oh Faranth... pleaaaaase let him have read that wink wrong. Please. Please. Please. He did not want to consider what he'd have to do to get Her off his scent.
Shells he just couldn't turn the charm off could he? Even now when he wasn't trying, when he was doing the exact opposite of flirting, he had women making passes at him. He was probably lucky they were in public right now! ...Actually he felt very lucky he was in public. He'd rather not be cornered by her in a dark hallway alone. He might not be able to talk himself out of that one. He may be a tall, fit guy, but she was built like a wher.

Kieza could feel the tension building in the Candidates. One was Impressed, but not all of them could possibly be chosen. Some would go away rather disappointed, and this was something that she herself both feared and righteously understood. If her Dragon was not in this clutch, there would be more (she hoped!) before she was too old to be considered a good Candidate for a young dragonet. Her green eyes watched the eggs and the already hatched with a dutiful stare, her heart pleading quietly.
Was she strong enough to be selected even? Kieza thought herself weak among many of the more strapping and well-built youths. She was shy and sometimes too quiet for her own good. What Dragon would ant someone who liked the company of stories and animals moreso than her own kind? The girl closed her eyes and sighed. Calm yourself, she told her heart. Rushing things was going to get her nowhere.
She opened her eyes once more and steeled herself for both the possibility of being picked, and the other side of the coin as well. Who knew who would be chosen save for those small dragons?

Now free of egg fragments Cheetah looked around quickly, trying to focus on everything at once. Even only minutes out of the egg the green's mind was already racing. First one thing had her attention, then another. Seeing the candidates the dragon took a few hurried steps in their direction. Yes, yes, this seemed something she needed to focus on. Oh, but what was that? An egg twitched beside her and caught the young dragon's attention. Altering her course she began to circle the blue egg as it fell still again, well, that wasn't very interesting. A soft hiss caused Cheetah to pause. What was that? Sticking her head around the side of the egg, the green spotted a blue hatchling crouched behind it, hissing his disapproval of her appearance. She took a step forward, wouldn't he like to come out? She was sure there was one out there for him. Black Mamba however had his own ideas. The blue shot forward, slamming his feet down and hissing again, driving the green out from behind the egg. He did not want to join her. She should go away. Cheetah scrambled several steps backwards, fumbling in the sand. Well fine, if that was the way he wanted to be. Looking back at the candidates the green gave a contented chirp and sped off. She had more important things to focus on. That would have been the end of it, Black Mamba would have been free to slink back into the shadows and stay hidden among the shells. Unfortunately there was a teensy little problem. Well, actually it was a rather sizable problem. Attracted by the commotion, another hatchling had been brought near. One that seemed to have decided that for some reason the blue's behaviour had offended him in some way. Honey Badger loomed over the lithe blue, rumbling deep in his chest. The blue hunkered down and hissed up at his larger brother, not willing to mock-lunge at him as he had Cheetah, but that didn't mean he intended to back down completely. Whether she didn't realise the commotion behind her or didn't care, Cheetah sped towards the female candidates. Unlike the previous dragon to approach the candidates, this one's motions were slightly more controlled. In that she wasn't stumbling or bumping into anyone. The green built up speed, but was on a dead straight path for a paticular candidate. Mine! There you are, Kieza! A small paniced sound escaped the green as she attenpted to stop, kicking up sand as she tried. Oh dear, she had been going too fast. Veering to the side, Cheetah managed to miss colliding with the girl by a hair's breath. Skidding to a hault she turned once again to Kieza, love swamping the girl as the dragon's eyes shined a rainbow. Your Nyxbath was going a little too fast. Oh, did you see that blue? He wasn't very nice. Can we get something to eat now? I'm very hungry. It seemed to have taken no time at all for the green's racing mind to mix in with her chosen's.

Emora watched as one of the other girls stood their shocked a worried frettful look on her face. . .well on a lot their faces. This one however drew her attention because it appeared she wouldn't be worried or fretful for long as the green from just moments before barreled over to the girl to make impression and also make itself the fastest impression yet.
Well at least impression proved there was nothing wrong with the dragon and maybe some of the other hatchlings would get competitive and impress already. It seemed like they were all content to just lounge about on the sands and do this or that and with four dragons yet to find their riders she was starting to get a bit worried that maybe their riders weren't there. Either that or the hatchlings just felt like being fashionably late.

Lysandor
It was like watching a drama unfold, the other green dragon the one that seemed energetic if slim had tried to get the black mamba hatchling to come out and view the candidates but it had other ideas...scaring the green off before it then was stopped...by the large brown. It didn't look like things would turn out well...both hatchlings were staring each other down the brown obviously had the size advantage, though the blue wasn't a coward.
"Oh...please...we don't need bloodshed..." Lysandor murmured watching the pair with growing worry. Just because he was bigger...he could only hope the brown wouldn't bother to fight the smaller blue.
Distracted by the duo he almost missed that a second impression was occurring another female candidate and he wanted to tell her congratulations but he didn't know her name, besides his attention was shifted back on the remaining unhatched eggs and then back to mamba and badger.

Dizzian
She's fast. Like you were. Dizzian hummed happily. The little girl was even spotted, though they were smaller and less pronounced than the bold markings her dear Tigrith sported. Idle hands continued to stroke the soft musky hide beneath her.
Tigrith thrummed with pleasure, both at her rider's attentions and at the little green beneath her. I never know what you're plotting Tigrith could have easily pried to find out what exactly was going through the young woman's head, but it was too much effort and only caused problems when she did. She trusted Dizzian. The woman never did anything that Tigrith objected too.
I'm not plotting love. Just remembering. She folded her arms and leaned forward against them on Tigrith's neck.
Zofer
Well there went that idea. The scrawny green chose another. It was for the best. Rissa would have looked ridiculous on her. Then again, the giant would probably make any dragon look small in comparison. She could make Elephant look pathetic side by side.
Zofer was suddenly interested in Honey Badger and Black Mamba. His lip curled, looked like that nasty little blue was about to get what's coming too him.
A brown wouldn't be bad he supposed... Not near as good as a bronze... but he could live with a brown. He eyed Honey Badger with a little more interest than before.
Jasiline
And the second Impression finally! She fought the urge to clap again as the second green found her bond among the girls. The others hatched still didn't seem all that interested. Well, whatever floated their boats. At least the girls knew what they were about.

Kieza watched in turmoil as the small green dragonet approached the larger blue dragon, who seemed upset at everyone else pestering him and showed it by hissing and lunging at it's clutch sibling. Oh my, what a wicked little one that would be. But the girl felt her mind tingling with worry. No brother or sister should treat it's siblings like that, she thought acidicly. Clutching the sleeve of her white robe, she felt that wish to hear those thoughts. Yet no matter how much she wished, it was for naught. Frowning, the girl sighed. She felt scatter-brained.
Shards!
She had not been paying attention to the little green and what path it was taking as it left it's sour brother behind and meandered toward the female candidates. Wait, you're going to fast! She thought, watching the dragon barrel toward her on gangly legs. She knew that she was certain to be injured from this, but she stood still as a statue. But the shocking thing was watching the dragon veer away at the last possible moment, sending sand flying around it as it skidded away and finally stopped. Then it was staring at her once more. A fierce love enveloped Kieza, washing away her nervousness. Mine! There you are, Kieza! The feeling shocked her, the invading thoughts cheerful and happy as they spanned through her, leaving her stunned. Was this...? Was this really Impressing? She trembled a moment before regaining hr composure and kneeling in the sands by the lovely green. Your Nyxbath was going a little too fast. Oh, did you see that blue? He wasn't very nice. Can we get something to eat now? I'm very hungry. These thoughts came in a quick flood as well. "Slow down, one thing at a time." Kieza urged, a smile dawning on her pale and still shocked face. Nyxbath crooned as the girl reached out and scratched her eye ridges a moment. Mine. My stomach is so empty. So very hungry! May I eat now? Will you feed me? The thoughts once more assailed her with colors and thoughts. She laughed at the feeling and nodded. "Of course, but you can't eat too quickly." She murmured, seemingly blocking out the rest of the world in her oblivious happiness.
Shaking the sand from her robes, the gril walked toward the feeding table, with Nyxbath close on her heels. And then the dragon was ahead of her, darting forward toward the food, before veering backward and running back toward Kieza, making chirruping noises as she urged the girl to speed up. KiezaMine, so hungry! Hurry! Hurry! Delight shone on the girl's face, "Slow down! The meat will not disappear." But what if it does? "Then I will be certain to find you more." She murmured as they reached the table.
Picking up a piece of meat, she waved it at Nyxbath, watching as the dragonet's mouth darted toward it and then the meat was gone. "Slowly!" Kieza urged once more as she held up another piece. The green clicked her teeth together and slowly, almost tenderly took it from her hand before snapping it up. "Better. Gluttonous creature." Kieza was beside herself. The loneliness she had felt was gone. Never alone, KiezaMine. Your Nyxbath is always here for you! The dragonet chirped, skipping around in the sands in front of Kieza, her eyes a cascade of rainbow.

Ashlyn
Ashlyn watched what was going on with some of the dragons, wincing when she saw the blue get hostile towards the little green one. She held her breath, willing for the fighting to stop, she didn't want to see any of them getting hurt, including the blue. She saw the honey badger get involved and the little green slip over to where she and the other girls were. She saw how she instantly walked up to one of the girls and impressed on her. That was two down, she started to feel butterflies in her stomach. Would this year be like the last ones, would she fail to impress again? That worried her because she was getting close to being too old to become a rider and her heart fluttered in her chest. She returned her attention to the dragons and tried to think postive thoughts, reminding herself her mother's words that all would be fine.
"Well, I suppose that are two little ones spoken for now,"she spoke, trying to keep her voice steady. She was happy for the new riders and that two dragons who actually were fortunate to find their riders. She was glad they would not be left without a rider, it made her feel better.

Mei (Speaking toward Female Candidates / Stink eye toward Zofer. rofl )
When the green made her mad dash, it was obvious to Mei that she was not the object of the green's affections. The short woman made sure to stay well out of it's way as it barreled toward a female candidate with a speed that surprised her. Ah yes.. note to self; hatchlings are a lot faster than they looked. Which also meant more formidable. So much for thinking she could easily sidestep the awkward, ambling creatures easily. She glanced over at the other female candidates with a smirk. "See there? Spry as a spring lamb." That'd teach them. Tiny didn't always mean weak. They could be quick, agile, and maybe even deadly.
Speaking of dangerous dragons… It seemed two of them were having a standoff right then! The threatening blue, and the rather stubborn little brown. She wasn't entirely sure how serious sibling squabbles could get amongst dragons, but her own altercations between siblings brought a mix of ire and affection to her memory. Admittedly, as time progressed and the physical distance put herself further away from her brothers and sisters, it would be more of the latter.
"There you two go; get it out and over with or else you'll never get along." Mei jibed good-naturedly. She was indeed in a good mood, elated at not feeling terrified by the situation, and confidence bolstered that two Impressions had now been made without incident, though a particular individual caught her attention. Right.. the Zofer fellow, practically looking down his nose at the dragons, his eyes on the little Badger Brown. Huh! As if he could handle such a tenacious creature! Watch the dragon make me eat my words and choose him. Mei thought to herself, giving Zofer a long stink eye. For all that Hennory might idolize the young man, Mei herself didn't care much for him.
Hennory
The greens were very quick with their choices, but there was nothing wrong with knowing what one wanted. Hennory couldn't find fault in decisiveness. The bronze was still looking them over, deliberate and thoughtful, and two young dragons seemed to be in a tense stand-off amongst the eggs. Surely the mother would step in if it got rough, yes? Like a mother canine pulling apart two pups when their play got too rough… Dragons were infinitely more intelligent and clever than dogs, so he could easily see it feasible that the queen would have the capacity to know when to break up any squabbles…
With that, he was able to ease his worries, and for the first time that night, hazard a glance up in the stands. There were many people watching them, no doubt taking bets on who would impress what, and what would hatch from the remaining eggs. He'd been a spectator in the stands once before, but it was nothing like being on the sands. those people had no idea. None of the faces looked familiar, though he was sure his foster mother was somewhere up there in the stands, no doubt a glass of wine in her hands, probably her fourth one for the night.
But he'd push that thought aside. The young man tore his gaze from the spectators and back to the action.

The blond haired Ameleia gave a bit of a gasp and a wince when the Blue dragon that had been hiding amongst the eggs suddenly went at the little Green, but much to Ame's relief the little one was able to stumble her way out of his reach then took off. Lifting a hand to rest it against her racing heart she gave a sigh of relief, they were siblings yes but she knew from watching T'dej's family that siblings weren't about to hold back because of their familial ties. She watched as the Green ran off toward the group of girls, something that had her perking up in a curious manner, wondering if maybe this one was his but then she continued on her way at a ran toward a girl that it would seem was hers, "Wow, that was pretty quick." She murmured, then gave a bit of a giggle since the dragon was both quick physically as well as quick in choosing her partner so her words could have easily referred to both she realized.
Turning back to see what had become of the Blue she was a little surprised to see that he was in a bit of a stand off with his big, Brown brother, which had her worrying all over again that someone might get hurt, "Ahh... be careful." She murmured, not wanting to see either of the two brothers get hurt because of a disagreement. She looked around for a moment, wondering if their mother would stop them from arguing if things got too rough. It would be a heartbreaking shame to see either of them between over wounds caused by a tussle between siblings. Hopefully they would either go their own separate ways before things got to that point or their mother would give them a good scolding in a fashion that mothers did best. She'd seen many times before how a mother could stop any fight between her children with but a word and a look. Given the sheer size of the Queen she would bet that she would pull off the mom look quite well, the best in the Weyr even.
Giving a smile at the thought her eyes broke away from looking at the pair of brothers and their stand off to looking at the other eggs, curious to which would be next. Maybe another of those she'd been able to meet? That would be neat though there were only a handful she'd had time to meet with since she'd gotten a touch distracted with the black egg that day.

It seemed that the two dragons had come to a stand off. Neither willing to back down to the other, but also not wanting to take that step into physical violence. Instead there was a great deal of posturing. Honey Badger standing tall and rumbling, while Black Mamba stayed low to the ground hissing all the while. There was no guessing needed to know which dragon would win the fight. The brown's brute strength was enough to make it clear, however if the blue's lean build was anything to go by, he'd most likely be able to get in a few fair swipes before being taken down. It was then that a force came between the two posturing hatchlings. Slow and methodical the large Elephant hatchling trudged along and placed his large bulk between the two. The bronze stood, not a hint of red or orange in his eyes, firnly in the middle of the quarrel. The large hatchling let out a long sighing rumble, turning his slowly whirling gaze first to Black Mamba and then to Honey Badger. The two brothers quietened apparently neither thinking their disagreement worth challenging yet another hatchling. Honey Badger gave another slightly irritated grunt and turned away from the pair, walking off. The bronze's gaze swung back to his blue brother, who had now straightened up and ceased his hissing. The larger dragon nodded his head toward the crowd of candidates, seemingly quiet insistent. Black Mamba seemed to take the hint, walking toward the male candidates. He began to work his way through the lads, much more carefully than the other hatchlings. The blue barely caused a whisper of moment as he slipped through. Finally he came to a halt in front of Evzen. They are after me, Mine, I'm sure of it. The blue cast quick glances around. Oh yes, he was on to them and their schemes. They couldn't get past him. Your Aspith is hungry, do you have anything I can eat? My insides are empty and I can't keep a good lookout if I'm too hungry.
