C H A I N x R E A C T I O N Dear journal,
There is much I need to think about now, so much is different. A step in the right I suppose. I wonder what this means with my family, with Ekundayo and with the whole world? This is good news for my friends, bad for the enemies that hide amongst the shadows. But I feel like it’s not over, something more is coming and it will be uglier than before. Peace will not last, but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy it.

M I S S I N G x Y O U Dear journal,
We’ve made up and now I have a promise ring on my wedding finger. I would really like Ekundayo to meet my family, to show them the man I love and for them to accept him as he is. This is my goal.

B O N D I N G x T R E A S U R E When Esmeralda wanted a few days to herself, she took a break from her studies and usually went to find a spot where she could be close to the Peisio dragons, but not so close that they felt threatened. This usually meant she found a lake and camped out across from the dragons, it gave her enough space to hunt and to sunbath and do whatever she wished undisturbed. Those were the best days, and since she hadn’t taken any off days in a while with her meeting with the master right around the corner, she decided to take a whole week away from the craziness.
The vacation started out as any other regular day, Esmeralda found her spot and set up camp by the lake. So she was so used to traveling and camping out now that she loved it. A fire was next and then a nice dip into the lake before she went hunting for some fish for dinner. Night rolled in and Esmeralda settled in with a book by the fire, that was usually the only time she took to reread any notes she had brought with her. When sleep beckoned her to bed, she put more food into the fire and went into the tent for the night.
The next few days were spent relaxing, eating and playing in the water. Only on her last completely free day did Esmeralda go for a walk into the woods. She didn’t know what she was going out to look for, but today just felt like a good day for a walk. For the whole week Esmeralda had been there, she hadn’t known that others had been close by hunting for something. It was only when she heard voices that the Dovaa ducked behind some bushes and listened to the conversation. The men were talking about about a nest of Drakein eggs they’d found earlier, but could not recall now where it was.
Esmeralda’s first thought was that they were thieves and that she desperately needed to find the nest before they did. As quietly as she could, Esmeralda tried to find the nest before they could. She searched as frantically as she could, stopping to listen at times to see if whoever was out there knew of her presence. But out of the blue they did find her, calling out when they saw her and then chasing her as she ran through the woods. She found herself in a swampy area and hid under a tree in the water to let the men pass her.
When she couldn’t hear them anymore, Esmeralda turned around to go the other way and came face to face with the thing she’d been looking for this whole time. A beautiful Drakein egg that she just couldn’t resist taking with her, there was just no way she was letting these people have it. The Dovaa went back to came and packed up her things, it was better to leave now then get caught at night with the treasure they’d been searching for.

E X P E R T L Y x A C C O M P L I S H E D Her research was complete and graduation would hopefully be around the corner for Esmeralda. Things were still a little off at home, her mother had glared at her when she’d come in, baby brother at her hip. How he had grown that little guy, she’d missed him terribly. Thankfully, her mom’s temper had been abated by the fact that there as now peace among the three races. The Dovaa didn’t feel the need to smack some sense into her daughter anymore, but she wouldn’t be happy until she met the poor soul who Esmeralda loved. Hopefully there wouldn’t be too much bloodshed. “Hello mother.”
“How long will you be in town for this time before you go running off again?”
“My examination is in a week, I’ll be preparing my notes for the master to look over. If I pass, than I shall graduate a month longer. I don’t be here long, I promise. I also plan on moving out.”
Her mother huffed and left the room. That was a week ago.
Esmeralda was sitting down in line waiting as the other candidates were. There weren’t as many as when she’d gone for her adept evaluation, and these civilians were clean and pristine. There was no fidgeting, these were people who knew what they were getting into and knew they were going to pass. Esme was also calm; there was no reason to worry. She knew she would be passing and would be an expert soon enough. All she needed to do now was pas her interview, have her research approved and that was it. The new pay grade would certainly help her with getting her own home and leaving her parents behind. “Esmeralda, come in.”
Standing, Esme glanced around and went in with her notes. The master still looked the same as he had all those years ago, and he stilled smiled and looked at her with a keen interest. “I’ve heard many interesting things about you.”
“That sounds like how we first met master.” The old Dovaa chuckled softly.
“Indeed,” his hand extended and Esmeralda dropped her notes. “How has your research developed?” “Very well if I may say so myself. There are of course, only two dragons that remain that I have been unable to catalogue, well three if you include the celestial. If I am granted graduation, I will be making sure that my final project is dedicated to those three specific dragons.” There was no need to tell him which she’d been unable to find, it was obvious enough. “Very good. Very good indeed. Though I must say I have heard some troubling news from one of your clan elders.”
“Rumors he certainly made ugly if you ask me. The only thing I will comment on and you’ll agree with me when I say that this should have no bearing on my graduation, is that I am being courted by a mage of Oblivionite decent.”
“Very well then, off you go now. You will receive your news in a few days.”

L Y F Esmeralda Esmeralda is awaiting her master's decision for graduation. The news of her courting an Oblivionite has obviously circled and it poses some issue for her. What will her master say about all of this? What is the final verdict regarding her graduation?
Reflect on Esme's life a bit now that she is, potentially, graduated; and with the news of her engagement looming overhead, what does this mean for her? What about her family? Even her elders and trainers? Will she be exiled or will she be accepted? What about Eku, will he too, be welcomed by her masters? Esmeralda sat cross-legged on her bed gazing out through her window at the other Dovaa on the street below. Downstairs she could hear her baby brother running around helping their mother who was pregnant yet again. Her cheeks were wet, eyes red from the crying she’d been doing for the past few hours. Life, seemed to be crumbling back home. She fingered the red string around her wedding finger nervously; maybe she should never have returned home, being oblivious had been so nice… Now, bad news seemed to be circling around her like some hungry vultures waiting for her to roll over and die.
The only reason she’d returned home was because her masters had called her back, there was discontent amongst them about her. Erisi had done a sublime job at tarnishing her reputation back home, and now it was reflecting on her graduation. Some of the masters dismissed the old Peisio’s intentions, prizing her work as highly valuable for the whole of the Dovaa race. Others on the other hand, did not tolerate that such a member of their community, one that had an immense potential at becoming great, was being courted by an Oblivionite. This dispute was kept as quiet was possible of course, since Marcus had signed the peace treaty with the other races, but it was none the less a controversial issue.
Then when she’d returned home, she’d been welcomed with a lukewarm reception. Her brother had grown much and had taken to becoming a warrior which was a great relief to the whole family. Her father was nice, but there was a hesitance that Esmeralda couldn’t help but notice within him. Her mother had been something else entirely, the woman was pregnant once more, almost to completion and didn’t even bother coming close to her. The fact that her mother hadn’t told her she was pregnant only confirmed her thoughts on what she thought about the whole issue with her daughter. There was no helping it, Esmeralda hide the promise ring from them.
Now, Esmeralda had made her decision. Once Ekundayo properly proposed to her she would move in with him, leaving her family behind. If her mother could not accept her, then she would not return and if she could not live with Ekundayo here than she would leave. She didn’t want to, Esme loved the Dovaa more than anything else, but she also loved Eku and now he was the center of her world. If that meant giving up one family for another than she would, and with that decision taken the Dovaa had stopped crying and steeled herself. When was the last time she’d cried anyways? She was old enough to be able to deal with her emotions, crying got you nowhere.
“Esmeralda, someone’s here for you.” She heard her mother’s shrill voice from downstairs call her down, sighing loudly and rolling her eyes the Dovaa got off her bed. Who could possibly be here to visit her? Walking down the stairs, her eyes were set on a messenger. She approached him cautiously, eyeing him warily.
“Esmeralda Vorporian?”
“Yes?”
“Your presence is here by requested by the masters right this moment. You may not bring anyone with you, nor may you bring material possessions with you. You are to come with me.”
Esmeralda eyed the messenger and gave a nod of her head; she could feel her brother’s eyes on her from across the room though her mother’s presence wasn’t close by. Esme followed the messenger throughout the city, their pace hurried until they made it to the gate of the scholar building. There two others took up charge and the messenger left in another direction. The two Dovaa lead her through the large building and into its inner most sanctum, this was where the scholar master met to conduct business. They opened the door and held out there hand for her to enter, they did not follow behind her, and instead they closed the door behind her softly.
“Come forth child.”
The room was circular with a dome for roof, at the top of the dome there was a single circular window which allowed sunlight to come into the center of the room and this is where Esmeralda stood. The room was packed with masters, old Dovaa who regarded with wise eyes. Marcus stood off to the side, seated beside Erisi, this was not good.
“Esmeralda Vorporian, adept scholar of the dragon kind. Be this your title?” The oldest of the masters, a Gali Dovaa, regarded her with rich brown eyes.
“Yes.”
“Do you know why you have been summoned to this place?”
Esmeralda hesitated. “Yes.”
“Good,” he waved a hand at her. “At least she is aware of her surroundings. You don’t seem like some fool enamoured by love.”
“My work is important to me.” He waved a hand to shush her.
“Now, gentleman, Marcus… this child has been a valuable contributor to the scholars, her research on the dragons has been wonderful. Master Ardvisura, if you will please stand up and give us your take on the events.”
Master Ardvisura was a Peisio Dovaa, and the master who over saw her work when she graduated. She’d known him since she was little; there was no denying he knew her better than most.
“The child,” he began in a slow tone. “Has always exceed expectations, she is very intelligent and her work has always been on point and I’ve no complaints. If she continues to provide such work, then I do not see why courting an Oblivionite outside of the Celestial Plane would—“
“I object!” Erisi stood, rage on his features.
“Master Erisi, will you take a seat. Objections are not—“
“Her potential is too great to be wasted on an Oblivionite!”
“Sit down you old fool, you’ve no idea what you’re speaking of.” Master Ardvisura snapped at Erisi.
“If she had followed the path of a battler she would have been mine to train Ardvisura. I’ve seen what she can do, and who knows what her children after her will be –“
Marcus had grabbed onto Erisi’s arm. “I am usually not a witness to these meetings, however I’d like master Ardvisura to continue and finish what he had to say about the lady.” Erisi settled back down on his chair, arm crossed.
“As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted. I do not see why courting an Oblivionite outside of the Celestial Plane would have any impact on the quality of work she provides, if anything the more dangerous dragons have eluded her. Someone to protect her while she is out on the field, I believe, would be beneficial. As such, my vote is for Esmeralda Vorporian.”
Master Ardvisura sat back down.
“Are there any others who would like to speak up for Esmeralda before we receive objections?”
A few more Dovaa rose up and gave her their vote of confidence.
“If that is all, I would like to now hear objections.” Erisi shot out of his chair.
“Please precede master Erisi.”
“Many of you have seen the pictures depicting the abomination that is courting her, the stitches that keep his limbs together, born of dark magic and a weapon for war for the Oblivionites! If we let them,” he spat on the ground. “Breed than who knows what kind of little monsters will be born! Her courtship is an insult to us all, and her potential is too great to be wasted. I ask that you all reconsider your votes.”
There were murmurs around the room which the Gali quickly quieted down.
“Are there any other objections?” The process was again repeated with the other Dovaa who objected to her graduation because of who was courting her.
“Alright, alright. Settle down. Are there any last remarks or questions?”
Marcus cleared his throat loudly and stood up, eyes on Esmeralda.
“I have some questions.” Marcus approached Esme until he towered over her, when he spoke his voice was hushed and he stared right into her eyes.
“If you are asked to fight for a side, who will you fight for Esmeralda?”
“The Dovaa, always.”
Now Marcus raised his voice for everyone to hear him. “The Dovaa should have taken better care of you, while our neglect has led to your courtship of an Oblivionite I cannot object. If this Ekundayo is indeed a machine bred for war, then you are doing all of us a great service by keeping him by your side. Many of you were witness to the signing of the treaty; this is a sign of good will.”
The Marcus bent down and gave her a kiss on the cheek before whispering “Congratulations on your engagement, though I must say you have odd tastes in wedding bands.”
The room broke out in total chaos as Marcus walked back to his chair; it took many minutes before the room grew quiet again. Dome of the Dovaa who had previously objected to her graduation were now speaking up and giving their vote for her. There was much chaos, but when the storm settled, the old Gali turned towards her and smiled.
“Congratulations on your graduation Esmeralda Vorporian, I anxiously await the day we may give you a seat within this council as a master scholar.”
