It had been a long time since Esmeralda had been able to enjoy the water of the ocean on her skin; she was quite literally parched from the fact. Now, she’d asked a Dovaa fisherman who was going out if she could accompany him. The elder man agreed and they were soon heading out into the ocean together. The man welcomed the company, speaking about his wife, children, and grandchildren. Esmeralda was happy to simply listen to him, and once they’d reached a proper fishing spot, the man threw the anchor overboard and Esmeralda went with it. As a Peisio Dovaa, she could stay under water much longer without needing to return to the surface for a breath. Esmeralda took full advantage of this, allowing herself to go deeper than one usually could. This is when she was met by a Triefen at her side, the Dovaa returned to the surface and it followed by curiosity. Esmeralda was quick to get a rope to tie it with, maybe she could keep one as a pet!

The Triefen didn’t seem to mind the rope, however it did acknowledge that Esmeralda had captured it and now it moved away from her as if playing. Esmeralda however, was not laughing; she asked the fisherman for some bait and tried to tame the creature with it. She was almost successful; however the creature was far faster than she was. A few more Triefen had joined them, but they stayed clear of the Dovaa. It seemed some of them thought this was a game of some kind, and they all swam around her sometimes poking her for food when she had bait in her hands. The old man was laughing at Esmeralda whenever she returned to the surface, if he hooked a Triefen on the line he would be selling it for a good price. In horror Esme dove back down under, trying to shoo the creatures away. Esmeralda grew tired of their game however, and finally she caught the one that was hers and gave it a good glare and shake. It did not leave her side after this.

There was only training left to tackle now that the Triefen was actually caught. This too however proved to be arduous, almost as arduous as with the Vlidean. Not only did the Dovaa have to make sure she wasn’t floating away from the boat, but also that she wasn’t too far from the surface that she wouldn’t be able to go back up for a breath. At some point she was sure the Triefen understood her, but the old man waved for her attention and she had to go to him. They had to go now, night would settle soon and it would not be wise to be out at night on the ocean. Reluctantly, Esmeralda climbed back into the boat and stared down at the Triefen who was swimming about untrained. She would be unable to keep him, better to give him his freedom now before the old man decided to take it back and sell it for some quick cash. Esmeralda released to Triefen back into the ocean.
