"Am I a bad person Mum?"
Kaze blinked, this was... Sudden... Especially as she was trying to teach Arian the finer point of fractions - something that was difficult as Maths wasn't her particular strong point and it seemed to be a subject that Arian was not particularly interested in. "Of course you're not a bad person" she told him. "Why do you ask something so silly?"
Arian looked downcast at the desk "Because I don't have many friends who are spirits like me" his voice was quiet, the unicorn spirit had been doing a lot of thinking about it. "The only two friends like me are Mikomi and Aikori and I don't see them at all really."
Kaze pushed the Math's book to the side carefully, the half sprite having a feeling that today's lesson would probably not involve fractions. "But I don't think you've really had a chance to really meet any of the other spirits." She pushed the plate of cookies from the middle of the table over to Arian. "I know that you met a few spirits from before we went on our travels, but.."
Arian interupted her "But I don't remember.." he started.
"There's the little matter of our trip" she told the Unicorn spirit dryly. "Didn't you tell me yourself that Mikomi had told you that people had left? And I know that there were people with lanturns kind of like yours who you didn't get a chance to really talk to before we left - like Miss Eri and her brown lanturn or Miss Kalena and her pink lanturn."
"Miss Kalena? Miss Eri?" Arian frowned "I don't really remember them. "I remember a pink haired spirit my size and a purple one who had a really nice one... And I remember Aikori and a little red spirit Mikomi's size who kind of seemed fun..." He paused thoughtfully "Well the height Mikomi used to be before she grew."
Kaze smiled "Mikomi's grown?"
Arian nodded "Yes she's grew like Aikori grew abd she's around my size now like he is. I saw her at a cafe when I was out a couple of days ago and we talked. She grows stuff with Tayne in her garden."
Kaze laughed "We should invite the two over for tea some time. I'd like to see what Mikomi looks like now and how she and Tayne are getting on." She smiled "We could invite Aikori and Enikil over too at some point... Maybe have a flat-warming."
Arian gave her a dubious look "But the flat's plenty warm, why would we invite people over to see how warm it is?"
Kaze laughed again "No a flat-warming would be more of a party, so we could show people where we live now." The laughter faded into a teasing smile "And I have a solution to your lack of friends - why not do something where you could meet some of the other spirits - then you could decide if you liked them enough to be friends." Reaching over to snag a cookie from the plate "You don't have to but it's a thought to keep in mind don't you think?"
Arian thought it over - it was a good thought, although he wasn't sure what he could do or whether the other spirits would even want to do something he came up with.
Whatever he came up with would have to be something good, something fun and something that he could do himself - something that... His eye lit on a flyer tucked under the fruit bowl. The picture showing a jolly-looking old man with a long white beard, in red with a sack full of presents.
And the idea hit him - it was simple, it was easy and it was perfect! "Mum..."
Kaze looked up from where her hand was reaching out to snag another cookie. "Hmmm?"
"Do you think we could play Santa?

++ [ Entry 52 - self roleplay ] ++Kaze looked to the door as she heard the soft 'thunk' of mail dropping down onto the doormat below.
Not that there was much, a couple of flyers, a bill, a note from Kori and.. she blinked slightly, a red envelope with a christmas stamp?
Curious, she walked over to take a closer look, taking care to step over the creaky board so as not to wake a slumbering Arian who had been up to late trying to figure out what to do with his Secret Santa plan.
Kaze hadn't had the heart to tell him that they had to wait to see if Miss Hakari and Potato Lord would be ok with it, not with the excitement and enthusiasm that had been in his eyes ever since he came up with the idea three days ago - she had however put her foot down on Arian's idea of dressing up as Santa and then again on his subsequent idea as dressing up as Rudolph with glowing red nose and all.
She had however written a letter addressed to Miss Hakari, outling Arian's idea to do a Secret Santa for the other lanturn spirits and outlined the simplicity of his idea, making sure to stress how it would be a good chance for spirits to meet each other and that in the spirit of things that all organisation would be done by Arian, especially as it was all his idea.
By this time she'd reached the door and reaching down scooped up the red envelope. it was post-marked as being from the Middle Market, where the shop was located. Which meant one thing to Kaze's way of thinking - they had an answer...~ o ~ o ~ o ~ "So who do I have to invite" Arian stared at the list that Kaze had given him when she'd given him the letter from the shop. "There's Aikori and Mikomi who I know, and Vidali... There's Hikari who kind of sounds familiar though I don't know why and Mocha who kind of sounds like a chocolate bar, or that coffee Mum bought for me once where they put the chocolate in and the cream and chocolate on top."
The unicorn lanturn had the living room to himself as Kaze had said that as this was his idea she would leave all the organising to him unless he needed help. Not that he would need help - all he needed to do was to right letters to everyone and then see who wanted to take part.
He still kind of wished that his Mum would let him dress up as Santa, or even Ruldolph since Ruldolph was more interesting with his flashing nose. Kaze had given him a look and told him not to go over the top, although how...
"I need something to let them know about the Secret Santa and where it is is - like a letter or something."
The only trouble was that he didn't know where anyone apart from Aikori and Mikomi lived and so he wasn't sure how to send them a letter.
Although...
There must be a place that everyone knows and where I could put a note, or maybe even a poster. Like a big poster so that they could know about the Secret Santa! Something like a.. Like a...Kaze popped her head round the living room door, her left headwing flutturing so close to the doorframe that the feathers almost touched the cream-painted wood "Arian, I'm just going to pop to the shops, would you like anything?" And the idea exploded with such suddeness - that Arian probably wouldn't have been surprised if a light bulb had flashed into being above his head - although he'd have wanted to keep it - for study purposes of course and see if he could make another one appear."Arian?"Caught between musings of floating lightbulbs and his perfect idea, Arian didn't actually register the question until it was repeated with a gentle poke. "Could you get me some paper" he said at last, I want to make a big poster.""Poster" Kaze raised an eyebrow."Yes so I can tell all the spirits about the Secret Santa!" Arian grinned. "The shop's the one place that everyone knows and that people go to visit and that means all 22 spirits will see it which is good cause the only spirits whose address I know is Mikomi's and Aikori's.Kaze blinked "That's actually quite a good idea. I'll pick you up some paper whilst I'm out. Want me to get you some bananas too while I'm at it?"Arian nodded absently, his mind already wondering how to make his poster interesting and big enough so everyone would read it and want to take part.~ o ~ o ~ o ~ Arian put the final touches onto his poster, the red and green paint slowly drying on the white paper.
The poster was simple, with a simple doodle of himself on top and below in large red and green the following words:-Quote: Secret SantaHi everyone - you probably don't all know me, but I'm Arian.Since Christmas is coming up, Mum and me (well me mostly) have decided we want to hold a secret santa which all of us lanturn spirits can take part in.If you want to take part then just leave a message for me (or Mum) and I'll find a spirit for you to be a Secret Santa too! Arian Reading it over one last time, Arian left it to dry and went to wash paint off his hands. Tommorow he'd take it down to the shop so that the other spirits could see that there was going to be a Secret Santa and then he could wait and see how many wanted to take part.

Arian was bored.. Not something that sat well with the lanturn spirit - especially not when he was left to his own devices.
Organising the Secret Santa had been fun, the whole idea of having known something the other spirits having been fun - although it would have been a lot more fun if he'd had the chance to meet more spirits.
It was something he had found himself thinking on - the other spirits and what they were like. The three he knew and remembered were all very different from each other - from Aikori, probably his first friend - to Mikomi, who he still found hard sometimes to think of having grown.. And then there was Vidali, a spirit the size that Mikomi had been, a spirit with an arm completely metallicised. Then there was the spirit around his height with bunny ears and the purple spirit with the long hair that twisted into curls and who'd had shimmering purple dragonfly wings...
All of them had seemed very different from each other - excepting for one thing - like him they seemed to have woken up in a lanturn.
The other spirits wasn't the other thing piquing Arian's curiousity though, there was also the strange pendant that seemed to belong to his Mum and yet didn't seem like something she'd wear.
Besides it was strange in the way she'd never talked about it, had hidden it away - he certainly hadn't seen it anywhere with the rest of the stuff that she wore, and Mum was usually pretty easygoing about her jewellery so he'd seen all the other bits and bobs she owned.
The strangest thing of all had been in the fact that the chain round the pendant was too small to fit round his Mum's neck, more a child's pendant - in fact more around his size - but why would she own a pendant for a child, when she didn't have anyone other than him...?
The third thing had been bothering Arian had come about due to a conversation he'd had with Uncle Kori just after Christmas and before the gift reveal - and that was the fact that apparently not everyone came from lanturns - Uncle Kori hadn't exactly gone into any details.. In fact he'd seemed almost embarassed when Arian had asked him where did people who didn't come from lanturns come from and had been extra mean to him for days afterwards - but it still left the fact that he came from a lanturn and didn't know why...
Especially as he hadn't liked being in the lanturn in the first place because it had been so boring in there.
None of the things (why the other spirits were so different, his Mum's strange pendant or the the fact that some people came from lanturns) made any sense to Arian, and with the Secret Santa over (and his mind no longer distracted on whether the others were having fun with it or whether he'd made a good Secret Santa), it left Arian with things that didn't make any sense and the burning desire to make sense of them.
He grinned as an idea struck him - maybe he could investigate like one of those secret agents he'd read in some of the books his had gotten for him. Look for clues and stuff, maybe even get a sidekick - since all the best secret agents had sidekicks.
His smile dimmed slightly - although he wasn't sure who he could ask to be his sidekick. Mum wouldn't work - he had a feeling she wouldn't want him to be playing secret agents right now - especially with her being really strict on him focusing on lessons and besides she was one of the mysteries he wanted to investigate.. Well at least her pendant was - so she was out. Uncle Kori was out too - but that was because he was mean and no fun.
Emerald eyes looked determined, though he could investigate on his own - no one said that he had to have a sidekick, which meant that he woouldn't have to wear any stupid costume either like most secret agents seemed to do.
He could read books and investigate for clues and stuff, although he'd have to pick something to investigate first, since investigating three things wouldn't be easy.
After thinking on it for a bit, Arian finally decided to investigate why some people came from lanturns and what he'd been doing in such a boring place like that, maybe he could even start by peering through Mum's books.. She had so many books that surely she must have one about where people came from.

"You need to tell him the truth you know" Silver eyes, were ususually solemn as they peered into the grey eyes of the woman sipping coffee from a mug in the kitchen. "Better you than he accidentally finds out by mistake... God knows the brat is curious enough that it might actually happen.
Kaze froze, caught up short at the fallen angel's words - a flicker of panic running momentarily through grey eyes, before they hardened into a glare. "Not this again" Kaze's voice, usually friendly and warm was unusually. "I thought you had decided to drop this." Her headwings fluttering in agitation, matching the emotion she felt deep inside.
"Don't you think you owe it to him?" Kori's voice was relentless, his silver eyes unusually penetrating.
"And why do you care" Kaze snapped, her fingers clenching round the mug of tea she'd had to make for herself some minutes earlier. "What is Arian to you anyway? It's not as if you've ever been particularly nice to him - not that you're particularly nice to people, even though of us that... That..." The three words 'care for you... lay unspoken between them.
For a moment something that could almost be mistaken for hurt flickered across silver eyes, before lavender lashes closed slowly over them. When they opened again, the silver eyes had chilled as if the moment had never existed. "And you're afraid" Kori's voice was flat and almost clinical. "Probably that if the brat finds out the truth behind what you're hiding that he will hate you for it."
Kaze's cheeks felt very warm as her hand clenched even more tightly around the mug, the trembling of her arm causing a few drops of tea to slosh over the rim of the mostly full mug and drip slowly down her hand. "You have no right to..."
Kori continued brutally on, ignoring her "You treat the boy like a replacement, as if by doing so your actions will bring back the one you lost. You.."
"How.. Dare.. You..." Grey eyes blazed furiously at the fallen angel's words. "Just what are you trying to insinuate?!"
"The Arian you knew is dead. Adopting this lanturn boy, or whatever this child is won't bring him back and the sooner you..."
The mug was carefully placed on the counter - too carefully "I don't have to listen to this." Just as carefully the half sprite walked towards the front door of the appartment. Almost as an afterthough she added "I'm leaving."
"You're not usually one to run away." Kori's voice was brutal in its directness.
Kaze ignored him - well she tried to ignore him, just like she tried to ignoring the niggling feeling of guilt that suggested that maybe, just maybe Kori was right and she should tell Arian of the boy she'd adopted... And yet Kori was wrong in thinking she thought this Arian and the Arian she'd lost were the same. She knew they were different. Knew... She paused with a hand on the door handle. "And you never struck me as one who would care for someone who you can't even refer to by name" she said coldly. She didn't bother to turn round.
Kori spoke to her back anyway, his voice quiet "Things have a way of coming out Kaze" his voice sounded almost tired, the sort of tiredness that comes with having experienced something firsthand. "They come out whether you will it or not."
Kaze couldn't cope, didn't want to hear anymore and turning the handle the half sprite fled the appartment door banging in her wake.
Even so Kori managed to get a few last words in "Arian deserves to know the truth about what happened back then," his voice was quiet. "If you really love him then you'll tell him."
Kori's last words echoed in Kaze's head as she (no other word for it) fled.
They were to echo like that for the rest if the day - long after the fallen angel's appartment had been left behind...

++ [ Entry 58 - self roleplay ] ++"Lanterns..." Arian read out loud to himself from the large dictionary he'd found tucked away at the top of one of his Mum's bookshelves. "A portable lighting device used to illuminate broad areas... Dim varieties are often used for decoration..."
The dictionary had also shown a few pictures of different types of lanterns. Like the elegant-looking stone lantern in the middle of what looked like a garden...Or the three lanterns that had been mostly made out of paperThen there'd been the one with the chinese symbols, the small japanese lamp, the one that looked kind of like one of those genie lamps he'd read about in his story books and an odd star-shaped lantern that the dictionary had called a Kandil and used in something that the dictionary had translated as a festival of lights - something that the unicorn spirit had thought of as sounding cool.Arian's absolutely favourite two had been very different to each though - the first being a candle lantern like the genie lamp-like lantern and the second a pair of lanterns that seemed to be made completely out of snow and which was something the unicorn spirit wanted to try the next time it snowed, to see if he could make the snow glow like it did in the picture in the dictionary. There was just one problem... Interesting as his reading about different lanterns had been - they were lanterns and not lanturns.
The dictionary hadn't mentioned anything about lanturns - much less lanturns which had people like him in them.
The other six books that the unicorn spirit had pulled down from the bookshelf didn't have anything about lanturns either, although one had contained a lengthly description of how to draw some kind of rune-type thing - at least he figured that that's what it was about from the diagrams that went along with it as the whole book was written in some kind of language he couldn't understand.
Sighing the unicorn spirit put the books carefully away and then pulled out the Maths homework that Mum had left him with when she'd gone over to visit Uncle Kori.
Maths - to Arian had to be one of the least interesting things to do - especially fractions... He'd decided he hated fractions.
Picking up the pencil he reluctantly looked at the first of the problems on the page, his mind more on the mystery he wanted to puzzle out than on the numbers written on the page.
Tommorow he would go to the library and see if they had any books on lanturns - especially books in which lanturns had spirits like him in them.

Spirit. An incorporeal, substance or energy present individually in all living things.
Spirit comes from the word spiritus, ultimately meaning breath or wind...
Arian scrunched up his face slight at some of the big words that he'd found in the book of spirits tucked away in a side corner of the library. The small book had been covered in dust... Actually the whole of that corner seemed to be covered in dust and Arian could have sworn that he'd seen a couple of spiders scuttle out of the corner as he'd reach to pick up the ratty-looking book.
Blowing the dust of had produced a battered black cover, and dark, but cracked leather spine. Tucked into the pages had been a tatty maroon bookmark and the words 'Booke of Spryt' had been scrawled in black lettering that had been hard to distinguish from the rest of the cover.
Unlike the concept of soul, which is believed to be eternal and pre-existing, a spirit is seen as something that develops and grows as an integral aspect of the living being.
The writing of the book had been small, with lots of long and unfamiliar words that the unicorn spirit hadn't been able to understand. Although having raided the library's small stock of dictionaries he now knew that incorporeal meant something that couldn't be touched.
Unfortunately, apart from the one book about spirits - the library search hadn't been particularly fruitful at all. The book about spirits he'd found, didn't really make any sense to Arian and the small writing made his eyes hurt after a while.
Worst - the unicorn spirit hadn't been able to find anything on lanturns at all and when he'd tried to ask the crotchety-looking woman dozing at the desk about it she seemed to think he'd been asking about lanterns and had pointed him to the decorating section before going back to sleep.
Arian sighed - this investigating stuff wasn't as easy as the books made it out to be - especially as he hadn't been able to find even a hint of stuff about lanturns.. And this was after two whole days of looking!
Putting aside the spirit book - it wasn't as if he was understanding the stuff in there anyway. Arian sighed and decided to go to the cafe that he'd seen Mikomi at once - the one that'd had the banana-type pie as a special.
There had to be somewhere he could search to find the information he needed - he'd tried the library and his Mum's books and.. And...
Feeling at a loss Arian stretched slightly and head for the door of the library. Maybe he could come up with a new plan over some of the banana-type pie.

++ [ Entry 60 - self roleplay ] ++Two slices of banoffee pie later and no good plan in sight. Arian finally, reluctantly agreed with himself that he was stumped.
He hadn't managed to come up with even one teensy-weensy idea that could be called good and he was starting to feel quite dejected about it all.
I bet all the good Dectectives never found it this difficult to find clues to stuff... Like that Sherlock Holmes guy in Mum's book - I bet he'd know what a...The sound of things being carefully placed on the table in front of him startled Arian out of his melancholy thoughts. Blinking, the first thing Arian noticed was a glass of what looked to be banana milkshake. The second thing the spirit noticed was a plate with a small slice of banana cake.Smiling at him was the lady who'd been behind the till, her brown eyes bright and un-dim-like, despite the fact that she looked old... Way older than his Mum even. "You seem to like bananas so I thought one of our milkshakes might cheer you up." When Arian would have opened his mouth to say something she added. "And the cake is our new special - I thought you might like to try a piece. All our other customers have done so." Arian looked from one to the other "R..really?" he asked carefully - he'd never been to a cafe before where they'd offered him free stuff before. "I can pay, really I can." He pulled out his wallet to emphasize the fact."Pfft" the lady snorted, in what Arian thought was a very non-old lady type manner. "Put your money away young man - it's on the house." "But..."The lady interrupted "Although if you really want to thank me you can tell me what you think of my new banana cake." Arian found himself smiling "M'kay" he said picking up the small fork and using it to take a small piece of the cake.
It didn't take long for the taste to sink in... And after that the rest of the cake was demolished pretty quickly. Reaching out the the banana milkshake to wash down the last of the cake with a little bit of the milkshake, he was interrupted by the old lady's chuckle."I take it that you really like the banana cake." Her voice sounded amused. Arian nodded eagerly "Yes, I really liked it - you could really taste the bananas in it and it looked really pretty too" he said enthusiastically. "I'm definately going to try it again." Then as he was curious about it "How do you get the bananas to taste so good in the cake? Mum's tried to make banana cake, but hers doesn't taste like this - though..." He paused, then he admitted quietly. "I like yours better."The lady laughed again "Don't let your mother hear you say that young man." She smiled "As for the bananas - well lets just say that it's my little secret. It's good to see you smiling though - someone as cute as you shouldn't look as miserable as you did before." Arian's smile slipped slightly as he remembered why he'd been feeling so miserable. "I've been trying to investigate something." Somehow it felt ok to admit that to the old lady. "But I can't find any information on it, not at home or in the library or anywhere!" Ok so he hadn't really looked anywhere but those two places - but the unicorn spirit couldn't really think of anywhere else good to look."My, my that sounds difficult" the old lady's voice was sympathetic. "But I'm sure even the greatest dectectives have trouble finding clues sometimes." She pushed the unicorn spirit's forgotten glass of milkshake closer to him. Arian picked it up absently "Really?! But in all the stories I've read they've made it seem so easy..." He took a swallow of the milkshake. "Especially Sherlock Holmes - he's the greatest!"The old lady chuckled "Ah but stories aren't always the same as real life young man. Stories make things seem easy because if they were too much like real life no one would read them." Arian frowned "But then isn't that kind of like lying? Isn't lying supposed to be bad? Mum's always told me that lying is a bad thing to do." He drank some more milkshake.Another chuckle "Your mother is right, lying is not a good thing - no... But not all lies are bad." At the unicorn spirit's confused look she added. "It's something you'll understand more when you're older." She started to add something, but got interupted by the tinkling of the shop bell announing the arrival of a new customer. "It looks like I have to get back to work young man, but maybe you could find some more information for your investigations by asking at the source. It wouldn't hurt." Her brown eyes twinkled "But before I go - what's your name?" "Arian.""Well Arian, it was nice talking to you. My name's Miss Irisa, though feel free to just call me Iris. Miss Irisa makes me feel old." She chuckled "And feel free to let me know how your investigations are coming along, unless they are top secret." She winked at him. "And most importantly don't give up - none of the great dectectives ever gave up!" "I will Miss Iri.." Arian started. "Er I mean Iris. Thanks for the cake and milkshake, they were both really, really nice."Miss Irisa smiled and then made her way back to the till, to greet the new customer. ~ o ~ o ~ o ~ Finishing up his milkshake Arian found himself considering Miss Irisa's words. Talking to her had made him feel better somewhat - especially her words about not not giving up. He would solve this mystery he would - he just had to..."Maybe you could find some more information for your investigations by asking at the source. It wouldn't hurt..."For some reason those words of Miss Irisa stuck in his mind. The source... More information... Asking at the source....
Come to think of it there was a place that would know about lanturns, because that was where his Mum had bought the one he was in - he remembered overhearing her talking to Uncle Kori about it once.
And co-incidently it was one of the few places that he hadn't thought about asking at.
Then he found himself thinking about the last words Miss Irisa had told him.
I won't give up Iris he promised her silently. I'll find out why some of us come from lanturns.. I'll find out why I was in a lanturn too.
He wasn't sure why he'd added the last bit about what he'd been doing in a lanturn, in fact he hadn't been thinking about it at all - all he'd wanted to know was what he'd been doing in such a boring place.
However now the unicorn spirit wanted to know more than that - wanted to know his purpose to be in the lanturn, wanted to know how...
And he really, really wanted to know.
I'm going to find it all out for sure! I promise!

++ [ Entry 61 - Private RP - Conversations with a friend part 1] (Mikomi & Arian) ++kaze1981 Arian wandered towards Miss Irisa's cafe, his head down and emerald eyes deep in thought, although for once his mind was on finding out about lanturns.. Well not completely anyway.
More he was thinking about his Mum and the conversation he'd had with her a couple of days ago, about why she hadn't gone and seen Uncle Kori this week.
The whole thing had been kind of.. Weird...
Almost as if, as if...
She didn't really want to talk about Uncle Kori.
Mum had seemed kind of nervous abpout something and when he'd pushed about Uncle Kori she'd gotten irritable which was even more weird since normally she tried to encourage him to go visit Uncle Kori.
Arian sighed. And he'd wanted to ask Mum about when she'd bought his lanturn, see if maybe she could tell him something before he tried asking at the shop... After all maybe she knew something - Miss Irisa had said that he should try looking at the source and since his Mum had bought the lanturn that meant she was kind of part of the source too wasn't she.
Wasn't she?
He wasn't sure what to think which is why he'd decided to go to Miss Irisa's coffee shop. Then he could buy one of her milkshakes and try and figure out something to do. Mizu_Taji Mikomi was walking through the streets of the town, looking for something to occupy her time. Tayne was working at her job, all her plants were happy and watered without a weed in sight, and she could have sworn she had read every book in her house at least five times. Perhaps she could get something to eat...Tayne slept in later then usual and Mikomi hurried her off instead of her being late by making her lunch. She had been saving up anyway, if any reason to put something in her quaint little purse that Arian was kind enough to give her.
Eyeing the shops, she waited to see if any of the food providers caught her attention. Instead, the color of jade hair caught her eye. Exited eyes darted back and forth before she crossed the street.
"Arian!" she called. "Hey there Arian!" kaze1981 Arian looked up, his emerald eyes kind of startled at the sound of his name, although he recognised the purple spirit soon enough. "Hi Mikomi," he smiled, although the smile wasn't quite his normal cheerful one. "How are you doing? Thanks for the presents you and Tayne got me for Christmas. I forgot to thank you for them last time I saw you."
Dimly a part of him wondered if she'd like the presents that he'd bought for her from a marketholder in the upper market district.
Another part of him felt distracted though, still caught between trying to puzzle out how to find out information on his lanturn as well as his Mum's weird behaviour. Mizu_Taji The pale purple spirit smiled slightly and blushed. She was glad that Arian indeed liked his gifts.
"I'm glad you liked them Arian, and thank you for your gifts!" She turned a little bit to show him that she was using her change purse he had given her, then laughed slightly. "I'm having a bit of trouble with the paints though...I keep making it too watery and it goes right through the paper..." She laughed again, feeling rather stupid.
Looking at him though, she gad a feeling that something wasn't quite right. Perhaps it was that he didn't seem as chipper as he usually was, or perhaps it was that he didn't ask her any questions like he usually did, or it could even have been his eyes giving it away. Mikomi wasn't sure, but she was pretty sure that something was bothering her friend.
But she could be wrong too.
"Uhh..." she started, then looked to her feet for a moment, then looked back up at him again.
"Where are you headed?" There. Maybe if she waited a little she could tell for certain something was wrong. kaze1981 For a moment Arian gave Mikomi a bright smile "You like them?" He noticed she was carrying the purse he'd bought for her to keep her money in. "I wasn't sure what to get you but the purse seemed pretty and it was purple so I thought you might like it and then he had some paints too so I bought them as well." He paused for breath before adding. "I'm glad you like them."
Mikomi was looking down at her feet when he'd finished and Arian wondered if was to do with something he'd said - maybe to do with what she'd said about having trouble with the paints, however the words out of her mouth wasn't what he was expecting.
"Umm, I was going to go to the coffee shop - the one that does the bana-type pie and get a banana milkshake from there." The smile was gone again. "The old lady there, her name's Miss Irisa - her banana milkshakes are really nice." The distracted look was back in his eyes, his tail twitching a little. Mizu_Taji "Oh? I don't think I've been there..." Mikomi noted. It seemed like both of the spirits were feeling, out of place, or at least Mikomi did. Arian was obviously heading here by himself, and God forbid that she should intrude. Perhaps this Miss Irisa was nice and Arian wanted to talk to her. She didn't want to get in the way.
"Well, I guess I'll see you later then..." Arian was obviously deep in thought and Mikomi really didn't want to bother him any more then she needed to. "I hope you enjoy yourself at Miss Irisa's shop," she said truthfully and with a small smile. "Perhaps we can get together later!" and with that she turned to go on her way. kaze1981 "Oh? Miss Irisa's really nice" Arian said in answer to Mikomi's comment of not being there. "She's really old though - much older than Mum is. Do you want to um come along with me?"
Maybe I can tell her about my dectective work... I could ask her about lanturns too. Maybe she knows something about them since she came from a lanturn like me...
He paused, the last of Mikomi's words filtering in around his thoughts - the sudden realisation catching him that she probably had things to do.
He looked down at his boots, the slight scuff marks on them suddenly very interesting - maybe inviting her was a bad idea - she looked kind of busy.
"Sorry, I hadn't realised you were busy. Getting together some time sounds fun though. Maybe you could come over to our new place some time. I could show you my new floating trees, since I've quite a few of them now. Mizu_Taji "Busy? I'm not busy at all...it just seems..." She stopped a few moments. "Well it seemed like you were...and that you've been thinking...and some people like to think by themselves and I just thought..." She felt REALLY stupid now, and Arian probably thought that she was trying to avoid him, which she wasn't. She was just trying to help.
"...I'm sorry..." kaze1981 "I'm not really busy either," Arian admited. "Normally today's a maths day, but Uncle Kori hasn't checked the last bit of work I did yet and I'm not going to ask Uncle Kori about it because he'll just be his usual mean self."
And I didn't want to ask Mum about it either as she's being so weird about Uncle Kori, but I don't know why. He added to himself mentally.
"I am going to think at Miss Irisa's though" he admitted to Mikomi. "But I don't mind if you come too - that is if you want to come. Miss Irisa's really is really nice."
He added quietly "And I kinda see you as one of my friends... Even though I only have two - you and Aikori." The words spoken were so quiet that they were almost a mumble. Mizu_Taji "Okay...if you don't mind me being there..." Mikomi said with a very meek smile. She then laughed a little bit even though it felt a bit out of place.
"Math confuses me...I don't really get it at all..." she admitted. "I'm sure you're good at it though Arian. You're smart like that..." She walked up to him and smiled again, not really hearing his mumbles.
"And I'll be sure to keep quiet while you think..." kaze1981 "Actually I hate Maths" Arian admited. "Especially fractions and stuff like that - which are really hard... Especially since Uncle Kori never explains anything." He started walking again in the direction of the cafe.
"And no I don't mind you being at Miss Irisa's with me. Why would I?" He was puzzled - after all if he didn't want Mikomi to come along he'd have told her he didn't want her to come, or told her that he was busy or something. Mizu_Taji "Really? I'm surprised, but then again fractions are tricky..." she said somewhat quietly. "And your Uncle Kori still visits? I know you and your mum don't live with him anymore, so he must come by to see how you're doing with math...or doesn't he live all that far away?" kaze1981 Arian frowned "It's not really that Uncle Kori visits us - more that we go visit him. Mum says we have to go because he'd get lonely being on his own, although he isn't really on his own because he has a boyfriend, although Mum's told me not to call him that and told me to keep away from him." The unicorn spirit paused for breath, wondering if he should tell Mikomi about the rest of it - about part of what was bothering him.
He saw Mikomi as a friend and friends were supposed to trust each other... Weren't they...
Weren't they?
But she'd never told him that they were friends and he hadn't asked her either.
But he'd kind of come to think of her as a friend, just like Aikori and him were friends... And...
"Mikomi are we friends?" He blurted out suddenly, speaking the question that was topmost on his mind.
Without realising it he'd stopped walking. Mizu_Taji "Oh...I see..." she responded, going into a bit of thought.
Mikomi had kept on walking for a few moments, too full of though to have noticed that Arian's voice was fading ever so slightly. After a few steps she heard his question and in all honesty it worried her, though it didn't take much for her to get worried.
"I...I hope we are...I mean...I'd like us to be friends...I've only really talked to two people for long periods of time, you being one of them..." She paused for a moment. "And your mum and my mom seem to get along as well...it only make sence...I mean, that is if you want me to be your friend...I can understand if you don't though..." She cut herself off. She had a tendacy to ramble sometimes when she was nervous or upset. Right now it was a bit of both. kaze1981 Arian felt a sense of relief at Mikomi's words. So she did think of him as a friend.
He'd been worried that the friendship was only on his part as... The rest of Mikomi's words filtered in distracting him from his thoughts.
"Why wouldn't I want you to be your friend?" His voice was puzzled. "I only have two friends - Aikori and now you." He frowned again "I wouldn't have gotten you a Christmas present if I didn't like you and Mum likes you as well as your Mom you know." Mizu_Taji Mikomi laughed a bit in relief, even though she felt even better on the inside. Unable to contain herself she threw herself at him and hugged him tightly. Then her sence of modesty kicked in and she let go and backed off, feeling quite embarassed.
"I...uh...I'm sorry about that Arian...It's just nice to know I have a friend..." she tried to explain. kaze1981 Arian blushed - he hadn't been expecting that! "Yes" he said smiling brightly. Knowing where he stood with Mikomi friends-wise kind of made him sort of warm inside.
Kind of like the warm he felt when his Mum hugged in, or made a special treat for him.. But at the same time not the same.. Different...
Putting aside the feeling to think on later, the unicorn spirit started walking again.
Maybe he could talk to Mikomi about the stuff on his mind after all - after all she'd said herself that they were friends.. And friends shared stuff...
Didn't they?
"We're almost at Miss Irisa's shop" he told Mikomi. "Though for some reason she likes people to call her Iris, because she says 'Miss Irisa' makes her feel old." Mizu_Taji "Really? I think Miss Irisa has a nice ring to it...but if that's what she preffers then I'll try my best to remember to call her that..." she said with a small smile as she started to walk along side her friend. Her eyes watched the signs of the buildings, seeing if she could pick out the shop, but then again Arian never really said the name of the place unless it was indeed called 'Miss Irisa's Coffee Shop'. It sounded like a start anyway, so those were the words she looked for. kaze1981 Arian paused by a red painted door, the words 'Garden Café' written in black. To the left of the door was a medium-sized board with the word 'Specials' on the top, beneath it written in chalk was 'banana split', 'carrot and orange cake'.
"Here we are" he told Mikomi brightly. "Miss Irisa's banana milkshakes are really, really good."
Glancing at the 'Specials' board he wondered whether Miss Irisa's banana split tasted as good as the banana cake she'd let him try the last time he was there. Mizu_Taji Mikomi looked at the door that they had stopped in front of, making sure to read the sign and the specials board carefully. It seemed rather nice, this little shop, and if anything she was looking forward to spending time with her friend. After all, that's what friends do...
Right?
With a small smile Mikomi enjoyed the look of the place. kaze1981 Arian pushed the door open, hearing the small tinkle of the bell chime almost simultaneously.
Heading up to the till area, he smiled at the old lady sitting behind the till. The old lady smiled her brown eyes twinkling "Back again young man. How is your detective work going?" Arian shook his head "Not too well" he said quietly.
"Though your advice about looking back at the source helped."
Although I kinda need to talk to Mum about my lanturn and she's being kind of weird right now...
Miss Irisa shook her head, wisps of white hair escaping her bun "I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad my advice could help you a little though" Brown eyes peered behind him to look at Mikomi "And who's this? Is she helping you?" Arian brightened "This is my friend Iris. Her name's Mikomi." He looked at Mikomi with a smile "Mikomi this is Iris - she makes really good banana milkshakes and she's really nice." Mizu_Taji Mikomi flushed and tensed up a little as the woman caught a glimpse of her. Even though Arian said she was nice, and the fact that she seemed rather nice, the poor spirit's timid nature once again took a hold of her. She managed to smile meakly and nod a little bit.
"Plea...pleased to meet you Miss...uh...I mean Iris..." She caught herself right on time. That was close. kaze1981 Miss Irisa chuckled at Mikomi "It looks like someone's been talking. A cute little someone with a horn and tail. Although you're cute as well." she looked mischievously at Arian before giving the girl a gentle smile. "So are you trying to be a detective too like young Arian?" Arian found himself blushing slightly at Miss Irisa's words. It was one thing to be called 'cute' on the off-hand, and the 'young man' didn't really bother him too much as he'd overheard his Mum say that old people though every one was young.
Being called cute in front of Mikomi however felt different, more embarassing...
Although she'd called Mikomi cute as well, so maybe it was an old person thing - although he wasn't sure he'd tell Miss Irisa that.Mizu_Taji The pale purple spirit girl looked at Iris for a moment, slightly confused with what she was asking.
"De...tective? I...I don't think I am one right now..." she mused out loud to herself. "Then again I could be and not know it...after all I didn't know Arian was one...All he said was that he was coming here to think..." She was becoming even more confused. Why hadn't Arian said that he was looking for something? Perhaps the lady was confused? kaze1981 Miss Irisa looked at the confused Mikomi, then at Arian, a glint somewhat mischievous in her brown eyes "So young Miss - I take it that young Arian hasn't told you about his investigations." Arian looked down at the floor, noting to himself that the polished wood was looking interesting around about now.. Very interesting...
The unicorn spirit had only vaguely got round to the thinking that he might tell Mikomi about trying to find out about lanturns and why some people came from them and some didn't.
He hadn't expected Miss Irisa to ask Mikomi about being a detective or mention that he was doing detective work just like that.Miss Irisa hid the urge to laugh at the way one child looked puzzled and the other looked plain embarassed - it was cute, and young... Definately young. Not unkindly she said to Arian "Why don't you and your friend sit down - maybe by the nice table by the window and I bring you two over a milkshake?" Arian started to nod and then looked over at Mikomi "Um do you want to try one of Iris' banana milkshakes - they really are very good." For the moment he avoided the subject of detectives and anything to do with what detectives did. "Or maybe you could get another flavour - I'm pretty sure Iris does chocolate or strawberry if you wanted one of those."Mizu_Taji Mikomi smiled a little bit. "Sure, I'd like to try one of her bannana milkshakes. After all, you've mentioned them several times, so they must be really good!" she said, still wondering deep on the inside what these 'investigations' were exactly, but perhaps, now that she knew about them, he would at least give her a hint. kaze1981 "Great!" Arian looked back Miss Irisa. "Can we have two..." he started.Miss Irisa made a shooing gesture with her hands "Already onto it young man" brown eyes twinkled at Arian and Mikomi. "Why don't you and your friend sit by that table in the corner" a wrinkled hand pointed out a small, round table by the window with two chairs carved out of wood which had blue and grey checked cushions on them. "That one gives a nice view of the outside." Arian nodded "Er ok, Iris." Taking Miss Iris advice he walked over to the table and sat down on one of the chairs, carefully curling some of his tail underneath so that it wouldn't get in the way. Looking at Mikomi he was suddenly stuck with what to say. Post status: In progress
