I don't beleve edits will ever become obsolite... or at least in Gaia's lifetime. It would only be threatened if they come up with some new avatar system.

Eurgh. I'm so tantalizingly close to being able to get a set of golden laurels if I liquidate all the stuff in my storage, but it's just not quite there. And to make matters worse, nobody's buying any of the new avatar edits I've made, so I'm not getting any closer! gonk

"So far I just thanked the fellow for the intrest in my art even though he has no interest in the work that was put behind it. And if I do come across the image that I will report it."

have you talked with the person thats said they would make the edits this person wants?
if its really similar then you can make a fraud report, but if its changed it too much, it probably can't be called a recreation of your originals. Unless you have the proof of his statements that it was intented to be with your artwork. you might have to just leave it be...
oh! and give us a name so we can beware of this person as well stressed
