Ifrit laughed. "I know, isn't it? And I've only seen them near here so far. I think it's because of the flowers over here and the fruit trees on the other side. They attract all sorts of bugs. There aren't actually a lot of places with flowers and fruit trees this close to the shore, I guess."
He looked around idly, wondering what else he could show her, and spotted something small and brown nibbling at the grass a ways down the shore. Suddenly he dropped his voice to a murmur. "Xana? Look down there. There's a rabbit."

She nodded to his story and explanation of the phenomenon and smiled as she set herself down again to watch the insects flowers and fish. It was when his voice dropped that she was looking at him and then towards the rabbit. A real rabbit. If her eyes had been wide today, they went wider if at all possible. To her rabbits were creatures of fairy tales. To her it was like some crazed human meeting some vampire-werewolf-dragon-thing. She crept closer to him so that she might see better.
"A rabbit..." She muttered, "A real rabbit..." She was quite honestly awestruck by how small it was, but even more so at how cute it was! It was positively adorable!

Ifrit smiled. "You see 'em out here sometimes... they're really shy so they're hard to find sometimes. They'll run if you get too close or make much noise, most of the time. I've seen some deer and foxes and squirrels and the like too. Wild critters tend to be a secretive bunch, though..." He trails off and set his head down so they could watch the rabbit together. It really was cute, hopping down to get a drink and then back to nibbling on the grass. Eventually it even sat up and started grooming itself, tugging an ear down with both paws to lick it clean. It was positively endearing.
((My mom used to have a pet rabbit. I loved watching her clean her ears, it was so cute! XD))

Never had little Xana held herself so stiff so that she would not frighten the rabbit, it was almost as if she even held her breath. She listened with awe to Ifrit's news of deers and foxes and squirrels. Deers she'd seen and squirrels too, but a fox? Only once and it had been when she was so small she couldn't make much sense of her sight. Nature was something this kitsu adored with all her heart, much like the world. It was big and always interesting. There could be no denying that she thought it was pure innocence and good roaming the world, and there had never been anyone to tell her different.
"Ifrit, what's it doing?" She said in a voice so low as if she was afraid of it. Merely she'd never seen one before so the act of taking an ear in it's paws and licking it was entirely strange and foreign to her. It was silly because with all the rabbit's cute innocence, it seemed exactly like she was. Now that was truly endearing.

Ifrit couldn't help another smile. "Rabbits wash themselves... like cats do, if you've ever seen them. Licking instead of getting in the water so they won't be wet and cold. The bunny is washing its ear. Cute, isn't it?" Kinda like you.

Her muzzled formed an 'o' shape in wonder and she nodded, grinning just then. It was fairly cute and very smart of them. Mentally she praised them for finding other ways to be clean rather than getting wet. Personally, she didn't like such matters herself but did it anyway because that was what she'd been taught. She looked to Ifrit smiling even more, ears perked up. "It must be nice to be able to see things like this all the time..."

Ifrit smiled down at Xana. "It is nice... but it's nicer to have someone to share it with. Especially someone who appreciates it as much as you do."

"I can understand," she replied nodding happily. "But it's so strange for other's not to appreciate it! It's so beautiful! I've never seen anything like everything you've shown me... how can people not like it? That... that I don't understand." She shook her head, smile fading just a bit. "Or why Papa never let me out as much as the other's... just cuz I was small..." Then she gave a laugh, trying to put the other statement away. "But I'd sneak out to see the stars! And oh! Ifrit the stars are as pretty as your cave!" Her eyes sparkled as she looked up at her big fuzzy friend.

D'aww. She was so adorable... he kept feeling an urge to cuddle her. He wasn't going to... at least not yet... but... gah.
"Sometimes people just take things for granted when they know they're around, and they've been around for a long time... they get used to them being there so they just don't think about it unless something happens. I think that's part of people get like that." And I hope never do that with you! Though he wasn't sure why it mattered so much.
"Ah... your dad wanted to protect you. Fathers always tend to protect their little daughters. It's like a universal rule of being a dad." He grinned and shrugged, dropping it when she did, and so continued with something else after she spoke about the stars.
"Ah... I like the stars even better than my cave. They twinkle and make patterns all on their own and they're never in quite the same place two nights in a row. And it's fun to stay outside and watch them overnight." He actually went out at night more often than he went out in the day... though he might change that particular habit so he could run into Xana more often.

Xanabel set up a little, flicking her ears back. She could definitely understand that, but if a day ever came when she could look upon these beautiful things and not be in awe of them, she'd be mortified. Hoping, silently of course, that that that never happened she beamed at Ifrit. It was truly nice to have someone to chatter with outside her family's boundaries.
She thought over the things he'd said and wondered perhaps how it'd have been if her father hadn't protected her so. Sure, she'd been the runt of the litter, and though she still grew up bigger than her mother, she was smaller than her father... and definitely smaller than Ifrit. The world was a strangely wonderful place and she hoped to learn a lot more about it.
"You've stayed up all night to watch the stars? That sounds simply beautiful... I've never... watched them... simply looked for moments. I do so love them though..." Reflecting on that thought she got an idea. "Can I watch them with you somenight?"

Ifrit quite firmly steered his thoughts away from where they, out of habit, tried to go at that question. She meant nothing more and nothing less than what she actually asked. "Well, I don't see any reason for you not to. I bet it's more fun with company, too." He smiled at her.
"So... out of curiosity... is there anything you can think of I might be able to take you to see?"

"The entire world?" She offered with a bit of a giggle and then shook her head to show she truly was kidding. "Please don't go out of your way Ifrit, you've been so kind to me already... I'm simply grateful for today and the fact that you'll let me watch stars with you. It makes me happy!" She gave him a toothy little grin, pleased beyond belief. Truly there was nothing vile about her for all she was was innocence.

Ifrit chuckled at her little joke and then smiled broadly as she continued speaking. She was absolutely precious... She kept making him want to cuddle and protect her. Which was probably why her father had tried so hard to protect her. "Well then, little Xana... do you want to just relax here with me for a while? I don't want to keep you out all day but I am enjoying your company." He thought for a moment. "Would you like to meet somewhere to go watch stars tonight?"

Thoughtfully, her mind played with the idea. How she'd love to simply sit out here forever with a friend and take in the world. It was beautiful but not lazy. Productive. Useful. She adored it with all her heart. "I'll gladly stay with you a while more... and tonight? Really can we tonight?!" Her eyes simply lit up grandly at the possibility!

Ifrit grinned. "Of course we can. I don't have anything else I need to do tonight, and if you can come out to watch stars tonight, then by all means, we should." He wanted to... he wasn't sure, but he tousled her head-fur gently instead and then stretched out on the ground again. "How many bugs do you think the fish get in... oh... an hour?"
