"That depends on how healed my men are when we return," she pointed out, although she sounded otherwise in agreement. "I would rather I back track and you check out the east, where the woods end and Feretris proper begins." Although she had been trying to get them away from Feretris, the fastest way was straight south, and kept them along the border until they reached the plains.

"Meet back here in two hours?" After finishing their arrangements, Lilith left Nathien and the group to travel north, while Nathien traveled east.

Nathien: Go Here!

Gale jogged a ways behind the group, unable to approach the horses too closeley. Every once and a while he'd stop and stare at the stars for a moment, listening intently to the sounds of the forest. Then he'd be off again, catching up to the caravan. He picked up anything they dropped, and also took a bizzarre, criss-crossing path across the forest trail. His footprints added a jumbled confusion to the medley of foot and hoofprints already present. Anyone trying to follow from behind them would at least think that an absolute madman had come this way, and hopefully be discouraged.

Tesunie soon found himself asleep after healing most of the injured, but not all of them. He tended to the wounds that where the worst, and those he knew he could heal. it wasn't much, but it was enough to keep most of them going. They could receive better healing later.

The people of the caravan, though knowing little about Tesunie, placed him on a horse with another member, letting him ride out his sleep. This was probably the only time he was a truly good passenger on a horse up to date.

Gale paused a moment and looked around, as though confused. He opened his mouth to say something, and in that moment the forest exploded. From four points surrounding the caravan, flames spread and crackled throught the underbrush. This was no ordinary fire, though. It remained in a perfect ring around the small group of refugees. These flames were obviously a creatin of Feretris magic.

Four women strode forwards out of the flames, surrounding the Anjt. They wore black field uniforms with red and orange flames emblazoned over the right sleeve of each. One, with stripes over her chest designating her superior rank, announced them formally. "We are the flaming brigade. You are outlaws. This can be hard or easy, but you're coming with us either way."

Tesunie, far to exhausted to even do anything anyway, continued to sleep on the back of one of the horses, a trained soldier in front of him. He didn't even twitch at the sound of the flames, but rather slept on. If he hadn't healed so many people, with his low magic training, he may have had something to respond with, but he was too drained to even wake up.

Gale responded to the troops by sprinting headlong towards the horses. The beasts were faced with a choice: Allow Gale to come near or stampede towards the Flaming Brigade and the fires surrounding them. They chose the fires. Some were dehorsed as the animals hastily scrambled away from Gale. If Tesunie were among them, Gale would catch him, leaving them both surrounded by three flame-weilding women, one having been trampled by the horses. "Wake up...you need to be awake now..."

"A few more minutes..." A very tired Tesunie mumbles, unable to awake from using his powers as much as he did. His eyes open only the barest if cracks, before closing once again. Even if he could awaken, he would have very little strength by which to fight with.

Gale was immediately forced to rethink his plan. He took stock of the situation. The three remaining women had regained their composure and were arming spells. If they flew, there would be four more dead people in the area, and Gale would not be among them. This was not a favorable situation. In stead, he let loose an agonized wail.
"Why? Oh why....Cut down at this time in life..." Ignoring the women for the moment, he lay Tesunie out on the ground and removed his cloak, fighting the urge to cover up the orb at the back of his neck. "To die this young...it is a crime..." He covered Tesunie head to toe with the read cloak, and stood to face the flaming brigade, who had quelled their fireballs in resopnse to his odd behavior. He fervently hoped that if Tesunie were to wake up soon, he would play dead. For all of their sakes.

"No more deaths tonight...I will come with you..."

(As I said in the OCC thread at the top, Tesunie was not ready to really use his powers the way he did. Nice play with it.)

Tesunie was still far to tired to even bother to wake up. His limp body probably did look dead, for the only movement that was evident was the movement of his chest as he breathed. He couldn't have played the part of dead any better even if he was trying to.

Once the women got a better look at Gale, they became reasonably happy. The people of Feretris liked exotic men, and he was as exotic as was possible. He was so pale from head to toe that he seemed almost pure white. His hair was the lightest blond possible, and his eyes nearly colorless. He was tall and thin, if a little starved looking, and had features that fit with neither Anjt nor Feretris. He'd fetch a fortune.

Gale allowed himself to be shackled and marched away. He forced himself to refrain from looking back, as well as to quell the constant muttering that usually occupied his colorless lips. In the cloak he had left with Tesunie were two packets of hardtack that could serve as food in a pinch. Hopefully, that would last the boy long enough to be found. Gale could only hope, as he'd have no way of helping directly from where he was going. He wondered if Feretris was truly as evil as his father had always said it was. Either way, he was about to find out.

After many hours later, long after the women and others had left, Tesunie finally stired. He was slow to rise, still tired from all the magic he expelled to heal the others.

The first thing he noticed was the thick clock covering him. It was hard to breath under the clock, so Tesunie weakly pushed the cloth to the side of his head. The light of the new morning started to wake him up. After a few more moments of half wakefulness, he finally stired. He got up, expecting to be lying in his own bed, safe and at home, but that was not so. He awoke to the smell of burnt grass, and the outdoors, then the memories of last night came flooding back, the injured, the half remembered fires from somewhere. He even had a vague recollection of being pronounced as dead by the pale member of the group.

Upon these memories springing into his head, he bolted up, then had to hold his head still as the rest of the world seemed to spin. He rubbed his eyes, wondering why they still felt so tired. "Hello? Anyone out there?" He called out to the forest, not expecting any responses.

Although Tesunie did not get an immediate response, he heard a snuffling noise coming from over his left shoulder, then another snuffle and a sneeze from his front right. The sounds were as low to the ground as he had been a moment ago, and may have contributed to his wakening. Dawn was forcing its way into the forest under the oppression of rain clouds, so it was no wonder that, at first, Tesunie saw nothing.

There was nothing to hear for a long moment, then a rustling of leaves encouraged Tesunie to turn around; behind him stepped out a four-legged furry creature half-again as large as a fox, with a delicate snout and large pointed ears covered in dull-brown. If there was a way to get a common pet cat and dog to mate, perhaps that would explain this graceful wide-eyed animal.

(Sorry about the long wait. Been a little busy. sweatdrop Was still on every day, just was too busy with other guilds, and I was a little lost at how the animal was acting like. Settled now. mrgreen )

"Aww. He is so cute. Come here little guy." Tesunie gently reaches out to the creature, hopeing it would be friendly. The little thing was so cute, and so small. He didn't think it would cause him any harm. He didn't even know what it was though, nor where he was for that matter.

"I'm a long way from home. I wonder where I am suppose to go now?" He said to himself, still looking at the creature.

As the small creature leaned towards him, the birth of the morning sun brushed gold tints into its flanks. The fox thing seemed all at once tame and cautious, not quite coming close enough to be touched, but clearly interested in Tesunie.

"Awooor," it yawned in excitement, the tip of its tail twitching back and forth.

"You want to be my friend?" Tesunie asked the little critter, looking at it in the eyes, watching its reactions. "Just, don't bit me, okay?" Tesunie smiled at the joke. The creature was so small, he didn't think it would really try to hurt him, but he was use to only a city life, and didn't even know what this creature was to begin with.
