We only have 3 saxes in the entire band, and there's like, what...7 of us? Nobody can ever hear the saxes, so there's really no issue like that in our band.

man you said the wrong thing to the wrong people. you try playing tennors while keeping beat, playing the right drum makeing sure that you are in your correct place when you cant see any body else, and moveing around 30 yards in about 9 beats, yes i had a strange band director that used 3/4 in a marching show..., oh and lets not forget your drum weighs around 60 pounds sitting on your groine... NOT A NICE FEELING!!! and trupets are the most showbanistic pigs in the entire band....

I don't know about you. But I think EVERYONE who is in band or guard has to be a little cocky. It's called confidence.

Snowytigress I don't know about you. But I think EVERYONE who is in band or guard has to be a little cocky. It's called confidence. Its true. you cant have a show where you tell people you did bad, cuz if they didnt notice you screwing up, they would think you did great. xp

Our drumline always plays too loud...so Hartmetz was like: Drumline! Can you hear the melody? No? Then play quieter. If you still can't, play quieter. If you STILL can't, play quieter. When you can hear them, play under them.
But they're actually pretty good. I'm just glad that most of the idiots coming in with me are leaving band.
And pretty much the entire drumline is leaving after next year cause they're all seniors.
Me? Cocky? No...in fact, I hate loud noises. That's why I joined percussion.

Our drumline is the s**t. We get the most respect and we deserve it. We do shows at our pep ralleys and go places for kids. When the rest of the band is done practicing after school, we are still there for like 3-4 hours still practicing. I'm in the military one and trust me its not easy.

Jman05 man you said the wrong thing to the wrong people. you try playing tennors while keeping beat, playing the right drum makeing sure that you are in your correct place when you cant see any body else, and moveing around 30 yards in about 9 beats, yes i had a strange band director that used 3/4 in a marching show..., oh and lets not forget your drum weighs around 60 pounds sitting on your groine... NOT A NICE FEELING!!! and trupets are the most showbanistic pigs in the entire band.... Tenors aren't that hard unless you're playing corps level stuff. Or, like, WGI PIW stuff. If you can't march 3/4 in high school, you shouldn't be in band. I've had to march mixed meter stuff doesn't even think about having an even number of steps or hasn't heard of the number "four." And quads do not weigh 60 pounds, you're just weak. Lastly, the word is "chauvinistic." I'm a drummer. It's literally as hard as every other instrument. I've played sax, it's hard, but not particularly harder than "drums." A really good jazz drummer will tell you that there is absolutely nothing more challenging than playing jazz on drumset. And I can back that up, too. Controlling all four of your limbs seperately is challenging enough. Beyond that, you have to think of tempo rhythm, melody... I can go on. You get the idea. You have to think of what's going on around you. But you said excluding drumset, so as far as marching percussion goes... Yeah, it's just as hard as everything else. If it wasn't then everyone would make fun of everyone else for not knowing how to play the "drums."

maybe the drummers in ur band r cocky, but dont make a generalization that every drummer in the world is. without the percusion section music has no beat, and im not just talkin about drums. if ur cymbal guy isnt there, the whole song can sound jus wrong..and im not sayin that any other section is unimportant bc band is all about one sound. first chair drummer
