xD Because you have to have confidence to drum, you can't lightly and be passionate about it when you're not supposed to. When you practice the only way to turn it down is to play on a drum pad but that's like doodling versus having a painting that could be hung up on a wall, it's not the same thing. When you crash a cymbal anything other than playing it with the correct force sounds like s**t. Anyone can set a tempo, thing is can you play throughtout an entire show without stopping to keep tempo, can you be reliable? It's a difficult instrument if you're being serious and want to aquire real endurance and agility to play more than a few paradiddles. Cockiness is just a jackass version of confidence. And why drummers are jackasses, I dunno- seeing that not all of 'em are jackasses like how not all drummers are cocky. wink

xD It's just the opposite in my school. The Saxophones show of like none other. They all they that they are the best. Same with the Clarinets and Trumpets. The Drummers are the not that way at all. We are the most disiplined, and we work really hard, but we don't Brag about it. As turvy said above, Not all drummers are that way, just some.

Our drummers are rather quiet. Trumpets=uncoordinated, flutes=outcasts, trombone=annoying, clarinets=loud and dorky, french horns=good yet they don't brag, baritone=trys her best poor thing. =( Shes really quite horrible. xd Oh, sax=bossy. xp

Not a hard instrument? please.
Don't try to make a point without researching it first, sweetie. You end up looking stupid. Drums, and percussion, is more than just tempo.
And the reason we're so cocky is because we have to put up with so many judgemental idiots.

Yes, drumming is more than just keeping tempo, and not all drummers are cocky. It's just some people's personality.
Percussion is rythms and notes, yes notes. You tune snare drums and base drums, and drumsticks have notes, too, believe it or not.
It's probably easy for you because of your skill level, others may not have that high of a skill level, so cockiness is their way of excerting a feeling of accomplishment.

are you retarded. marching drums is level if not harder than marching with an sax or flute or tuba.
Ever tried marching and playing with a FULL set of tenors [six drums] i didnt think so, that crap sucks your almost dead by the end of the show.
So. yeah, lets not knock drummers, in our band we are the ones who work the hardest, and the most discipline. Thats why we are so cocky, plus If your a drummer, your hot. period.

Our drumline isn't that good, and they know it, so they don't brag. They do okay, and without them, I would die. maybe not die, but I would certainly have a harder time finding tempo during this one part where we're doing a bunch of flagwork facing back feild with no drum major back there, one's up front and the other's playing, so I need them to get tempo.
