Request from Fasius Accept Decline Thu Oct 12, 2006 10:30 am

LS, Hereby I request to join the Guild known as 'The Art of Knowledge - Cogito Ergo Sum'. Knowledge is a thing I strive to gather, and I'm looking forward to a healthy discussion concerning a wide variety of topics. This Guild presents itself to me as a source of information to which I'd like to contribute, and learn from. To further support my application, here are the answers to the questions as presented by you: Age: 21 Schooling: Current level: University Field of Study/Intrest: Language and Cultural Studies Answer one of the following questions, there are no right or wrong answers. 1. What is the source of knowledge?: One's own mind. For it has possession of knowledge gathered in the past and the ability to create knowledge regarding subjects that are still to come/unknown.

He seems eloquent enough, but I'd advise waiting a bit, if only because he has yet to make any posts. I'm not one to be overly suspicious, but it would be good to have a poit of comparison...

Forgive me, I should have been more clear; (at the time of that posting) he had yet to post in the general forums.

No problem. I accepted him, and I'm waiting to see if he's going to post.

Which brings me to another subject.

Should members be allowed to remain here if they have zero posts? As in, once joinning/becoming a part of us, they do not post for an excessive amount of time. Once your in your in or do you have to show some activity to remain?

Age: 14 Schooling: Currently freshman in the highest-scoring high school according to AP testing in both science and comp-sci. That basically would give away the school with a little bit of research. Field of Study/Intrest: Psychology Decided to answer all. 1. What is the source of knowledge? -- Self. Because if you don't absorb knowledge others give you, you lose it. Your source is your memory. Your memory is yourself. 2. From nothing, nothing comes. Do you agree or disagree and why? -- From nothing comes something. Which is nothing. Either is right. 3. 0x0 = Infinity. do you Agree or Disagree and why? - 0x0 is a constant unknown. There is no answer. 4. Give an example of a palindrome. -- Don't have any off the top of my head. Ava, my 1-year-old cousin is the only which pops, but it's not a true palindrome in my opinion.

I will be getting this guild active again after my finals. I have a few topics I'd like to start and once we get rolling again, I'd like to explore them and encourage the posting of more topics to keep this place intresting for everyone and eventually self sustaining in activity.

I'm sorry to everyone for the deadness. I've recently pmed all the regulars and invited some new folks. I'm hoping once we get a few people posting again, one thing will lead to another and all will be good <3

I'm really hoping to get some opinionated thinkers in here to discuss recent events.

First of all... didn't you mean "Descartes" on the main page? Age: 18 Schooling: high school Field of Study/Interest: Right now, how to get rid of my headache. Oh, you mean at school? Well, English is not my native language so yeah, I'm from a different country and I don't know how to say it in English. 1. The source of knowledge? Everything, I guess. 2. Well, yeah, you can't get A from B, but from nothing something else than nothing (as in 0) can come. Like inner peace or something like that. o.O 3. Nope. 0 x 0 = 0 Just because something is equal to something else, doesn't mean it's the infinity. And 0 is neither the infinity. The infinity is infinite, while 0 is nothing, emptiness, void. 4. Though one. I had to look up "palindrome" in a dictionary. Here it goes: 5í GAATTC 3í ; ) [take out that space between the ; and ), I had to make one so it wouldn't pop up as the emoticon]

Age: Eighteen Schooling: Currently in College. Field of Study/Intrest: (That's interest, mind you.) Looking at going into English/Literature. I'm also looking at Philosophy/Theology. 2. From nothing, nothing comes. Do you agree or disagree and why? I agree. From nothing, nothing comes; that is a very rich statement. I believe that in order for there to have been a Universe, some sort of cause had to take place for the effect to have happened. Look at our lives--no, look at everything; we can have no experience that equates to knowledge or gain without having /something/ happen to spark such things. Even Dreams require a cause. From being inactive and doing nothing, we gain nothing. The world does not give freely. Neither does the Universe. Everything requires some form of something before it gives back to the things or places around it. The Universe, therefor, had to begin with something; the only possibly idea is that that something was a Singularity, an infinitely dense point with an infinite amount of energy. I believe that before then there had to be something, and before that, a something--it ends up being a constant argument with itself and the only true answer that we can resolve is the fact that, because of our experience as /HUMAN BEINGS/, we think that something requires nothing. However, although I agree, I am near the edge of discord; because of our limited and varying experiences as a flawed being that is bound to a nearly solipsist standpoint, we truly have no idea whether something can come from nothing. Thank you.
