I welcome everyone once again. I usually make my rounds on the ED forum for recruits about once every week or so, and each person is hand selected for making a worthwhile post regarding SOMETHING relating to philosophy or theology. I don't believe you need any firsthand knowledge of famous philosopher's to be interested in philosophy, as it is all ideas and very few of them are provable, if any. The best way to explore philosophy is through debate, discussion or just daydreaming. xd Please feel free to post your ideas on any philosophy related subject or if you have any wild ideas or questions you want some input on. There are plenty of people with varying viewpoints who are ready to support or deny your ideas. Please remember to be courteous and to not take anything too seriously, as it is merely a discussion. Lastly... my favorite picture of God. I might just have to add this to my signature. Maybe I'll shrink it down and put it next to my banner. xd

Socrates in Disguise *bows to the coffee* I am not worthy...
That reminds me of an episode from Desperate Housewives...
"In Bree's world there were only two types of people. People who work perfectly fine without coffee and people who are utterly pathetic and useless without it."
She packed up her mother-in-laws clothing all in one morning when her mother-in-law was drinking her coffee and forced her out of the house.
I'm Yura. I'm a 13 year old male living in the Pacific Northwest: Portland, Oregon. Hello everyone. This is actually only my third post in this guild ever since I joined, so hello! Don't degrade me just because I am young, I am above average. This guild is okay for a philosophy guild although it needs some humor here and there. So happy blessings everyone and continue argueing.

Salutations everyone. I'm an 18 year old college first year and just begginning down the road of philosophy. Technically I'm a triple major; English, Education, and Philosophy, the third of these being just added in light of an amazing intro course. The classes that I learned the most in in High School were literature classes taught entirely in the Socratic Method (Answers only come in the form of questions) and through them I really learned to know myself. I have always thought of things from different angles, making me a tireless liberal (and very frustrating sometimes when I play the devil's advocate and debate for the sake of debating) and very much value the opinions and ideas of others. While I'm fairly solid in what I believe, I will always consider and question (as I've been taught) and possibly even learn something from what other people say. Note that during any debate you have the right to completely disregard what I have to say as most of the time I'm not serious, but I do like to make people think, and will try my best to do so here. I do, however, know when I'm beat a dead horse, and if it goes too far I'm the first one to concede. Cirendia assures me that this is a lot of fun, and I believe it shall be.
Here's to a brilliant and thoughtful future, Rae

Philosophy major checking in. I'm a sophomore at the University of Tulsa.
Philosophy of religion and epistemology are my favorite areas of philosophy. I'm sure we'll have some interesting conversations about them.

Hello I'm a college student who just recently changed his major to philosophy. Sadly I haven't had the opportunity to take very many philosophy courses yet. The reason I came to Gaia was in hope of finding people to discuse philosophy with. Anyway I glad to be here and hope it will be as fun as it looks.
Also a question? why are we called philosophers Anonymous

Hey there! I'm Andrea. I wanted to join this guild to have people to talk with. I'm really interested in Philosophy, but haven't had much of a chance to do anything about it. I'm a ninth grader. I like to go in-depth into everything, and figure out "Why."
I'll be posting other places, hope to see you all around!

Howdy! I'm a good friend of vorel_vargach and a guy who's really interested in Philosophy. I am currently in college pursuing a Physics degree and have taken two really fun Philosophy classes at my college: An Introduction to Philosophy course, as well as a Philosophy of Western Religion class (structured mainly on Judeo-Christianity, Atheism, and Agnosticism). Some of my favorite Philosophers that I've encountered so far are: Nietzsche, Decartes, and Socrates. I'm interested in most every area of Philosophy that I know of and am looking forward to the discussions to come. Nice to be here mrgreen

Hello.
I came into philosophy from the world of Catholic theology. I was born to a religious family and schooled at a Catholic school. It was alright, not as bad as it sounds.
I was Catholic, and strongly so, without being a zealot. I flourished in debate, holding and making ground against both agnostics, atheists and other christians. It didn't last though.
In religious debate you always end up back at philosophy, and when I started learning and studying philosophy (about five years ago now) it undermined my faith, then expelled it.
I disagree with the church, I can never follow it. Their present teachings are too much undermined both by their barbaric history and their critically flawed philosophical tenets and premises.
I will soon be reading Philosophy at Lampeter University under among others an authority on Existentialism and Nietzsche. Existentialism being, I am convinced, the most admirable philosophical school of thought.
My name is Francis. I'm usually called Invictus, or Invi, or just not addressed. And I came here after finding the Philosophers' Guild to be pretty-much dead.

Hello. Anyone to wander into ED subforums may be familiar with me. My name is Mary, though I often go by Kagerou online. Kind of an RP character thing.
I was born and raised Catholic. Until college, went to Catholic schools. Its not really that bad. Actually, one of the perks was the ability to have religion classes and at least hear people talk about such things. I certainly appreciate it more as an adult, as it's help me be more reflective and understanding of people I disagree with.
I've always been of liberal temperament, and skeptical of metaphysical explanations... which set me up well to become an agnostic and eventually all together atheist by the time I hit my teens.
Without a soul, I'm still quite spiritual though. I've been studying Buddhism as a religion.. and especially Zen philosophy fits very well with my own.
As for Western philosophers... my favorite at the moment is Voltaire.
