I really don't think it's the matter of killing your enemies (I mean, c'mon; Mario was freakin' crushing skulls back in the old days) that's worrying people, moreso the fact that you can use guns, that the series is getting desparate and straying too far from its roots.

Can't say I've seen the vids. I have dial-up...that should explain it. gonk
I have seen screens, however. I am pretty excited for this game. I'm an easy person to please, I don't set any high expectations...I'm sure I'll enjoy it. 3nodding

i think this is a f*****g great game, the guns a good thing. think about it. If you've desperatly wondered about your past for 3 bloody games, would'nt you decide 'right. im supposedly a bad guy. i want to find out why my memories are so f****d up. time to get out the guns'. Plus, if you don't like the guns or weapons, just don't pick them up. Also, i don't think anyone has mentioned that they have already had a gun in sonic. In SA2, Eggman held a gun to amys head just before he blew sonic into space in a capsule. I really don't believe sonic will start having guns. He doesn't need them. but shadow does!

I still remember Sega's voting on their site where people could vote who they wanted to be the maincharacter in the next Sonic and in what genre(I voted for a Tails game or a Rouge one.)
Love it or hate it when it comes out, but I give it a chance as it could turn out decent... like Sonic heroes.
Though first I need to get Sonic gem collection and Sonic adventure deluxe.

Athal Though first I need to get Sonic gem collection and Sonic adventure deluxe. And now, of course, we've got Sonic Riders, Sonic Rush and the revamp of Sonic the Hedgehog for the X-Box 360, too. Hopefully, this sudden glut of new titles doesn't mean that someone's going to be skimping on quality by being spread so thin. But what would you say the odds are?

*watches*
Nice visuals, but I have two thoughts:
i. Guns are only one option, my backside!
ii. Oh, the angst! The sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father freakin' angst!
This is nothing to do with the Sonic franchise: it's trying to pass itself off as Stephen Seagal with fur on.
*wanders off, shaking head - will make fuller comment later*
But as I was saying in another thread just the other day:
"Either of the techies - Tails or Eggman - would at least have a plausible excuse to carry a gun in that they are techies, and it's not as though Eggman has any other natural defences.
But it makes no sense in Shadow's case. Even if he wasn't one of the candidates for the ULF, being able to outrun a freakin' bullet (or one of those motorbikes he's suddenly so fond of being seen fondling), a walking weapon in his own right and generally not needing any weaponry...
...it's completely out of character!
After what happened to Maria, hadow HATES guns - and he's said so.
And don't even get me started on those publicity shots of him poncing around on motorbikes and doing "lock 'n' load" poses with his new artillery - despite the fact that this new, versatile engine which'll let you make a weapon or vehicle out of anything is supposed to allow for more freedom than just piece-packing. It's the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise - there's a limit to how edgy and sexy you can make it if you're not doing what Conker did and at least not taking yourself seriously.
I've a horrible suspicion that this blatant sop to the "We're mature [and I use that word in the loosest possible sense] teenaged Sonic fans, so we want games with gore, cussing and Amy getting her boobies out!" brigade will turn off as many fans - being completely over the head of the franchise's usual target age group - as it attracts.
There's no way to make it attractive to the target age group as-is, and I honestly do wonder how many teen non-Sonic fans Sega expect will look at it and say "Gunz n mettel r kewl! I want that!".
The slightly schizophrenic attitude goes double since all of the regular cast - except Cream, this game's antithesis in terms of motif - seem to be present.

Mmm, I don't know. I think they're just showing off the guns in the trailer. Your right though, the game's full of angst; but I think that's what most fans want. Shadow = angst. I want angst in the game as well. ninja Just as long as no one cries, then I kill.Nuala I've a horrible suspicion that this blatant sop to the "We're mature [and I use that word in the loosest possible sense] teenaged Sonic fans, so we want games with blood, violence and Amy getting her boobies out!" brigade will turn off as many fans - being completely over the head of the franchise's usual target age group - as it attracts. gonk Amy's 12! I have no problem with people in real life crying, but to see Shadow crying over angst... Ugh. No thank you. It'd be cool with me though if there was a memory of Maria crying.

I'm not so sure... I suppose there's part of me that thinks that it could work if, having turned into a feral killing machine, Shadow were to get in touch with his innocence or somesuch by remembering Maria crying, and achieve a sort of catharsis by tapping into that and doing the same. That, at least, would be plausible to me. Panku Tasuku . . . scream SICK. A SIX YEAR OLD BEING DRAWN IN PORN?! For the love of god, society has gone nuts! Society went nuts years ago. We're just seeing the results as the generation it went majorly nuts during becomes old enough to get online. sad

Well, would the last true Sonic fan switch off the lights on their way out? This isn't the hedgehog you grew up with! Seriously, watching that video was like watching my last stranglehold on faith being sucked into a vortex before my eyes, the motorbike, the gothy-metal rendition of What "I'm Made Of"'s lyric's and CGI Shadow's stupid attempt at seething with rage at an annoymous G.U.N soldier. I don't even want to understand this thing. It's Sega's final attempt at conquering a market, because they're so used to having the Nintendo styled luxury of having their very own market, now they're dealing with the PS2 and Xbox crowd, and ever since the days of the PS1 that crowd has been the lowest common denominator, the type who would give EA the power to be the biggest gaming developer out of Japan, because it makes another FIFA game every year, or snaps up movie franchises to make fans buy for name. So for the past few years we've all had the luxury of watching Sega scramble for a share of the market that they can dominate, for the company is a shambles, and with SAMMY now pulling the strings, we see alot more decline into the inevitable suicide that Sega will be pulling, if Shadow and F-Zero and "shameless fanjizz remake" don't finish it off first. I realise I'm not taking the gameplay into the equation, right now, but I feel obliged to, for it is the look of the game and it's marketing which sell the game, and the game is being sold to the Devil May Cry crowd, and of course this is the stupidest mistake Sega can possibly make. Sonic, much like Mario, had the appeal of the entire market, it was it's own product, the name was the selling point moreover the genre, Sega took this for granted in a huge way and have slowly been isolating themselves from the main market, mostly with the failures of machines known as Saturn and Dreamcast (I wont get into my rants on the particular consoles, but Mega Drive/Genesis seems to be a fluke in Sega's terms because they sure as hell can't sell anything else, and if I had the brain I do now when I was 8, I would have stuck with Nintendo all the way); with the main market now gravitating towards the PS1, which was drawing in a casual crowd which would eventually become the main market of the gaming industry, Sega were losing a grip and then with the death of the Dreamcast, we had a make-or-break moment. Would Sega be able to have a product which appealed to all markets, based on all 3 systems? Short answer, yes. Yes they did. The sales figures of the abysml Sonic Heroes proved this. Of course, the fans hated it. Everyone had their own perfect ideal of a perfect Sonic game. Ask any nostalgic group of fans of a product for children what they want. Ask any of them. Chances are an individual will say they want back to the roots, simplistic game using the old skool stuffs and none of the new things. Sonic the Hedgehog for 360. Chances are, the majority would be the said lowest common denominator (for they are the majority in this world, no matter how many sensible and knowledgeable friends you buffer yourself with) who voted in the Sega Online Poll for Shadow to have his own game. They asked the fans! Those stupid IDIOTS! They listened to the flipping fans! We're stupid! We don't know what we want! We keep throwing ideas and stupidity, about racing games with several new characters who no one cares about, or a return to formula original, or the killspree "we're the kids who grew up and loved violence" games... Sega are clasping at straws and right now I don't want to live through the ideals of the average Sonic fandom whinger. As I said, can someone switch the lights off on the way out?

I first posted this on page four, but it seems worth re-posting in light of new developments. EDIT: The actual URL is fine, and the link script works fine under "Preview". Don't ask me why it won't come up with a simple hyperlink in the post itself - or, strangely, won't unless I add this postcript.
