Shadow is getting his own game (I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!) and it shall play similar to Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic Heroes, except star only Shadow... With a gun. Depressing news for me, but exciting for all else. Watch the preview movie here (60mb download) http://www.1up.com/do/download?cId=3138745

They just couldn't let Shadow have his one ounce of dignity left.
"But it worked for Jak II!!!"
Yes, but Jak never had the ability to run faster than a ******** bullet, and at least Jak was supposed to have his silliness value.
This proves it folks. Shadow just isn't cool anymore. And the main reason for my aggravation is not Shadow getting milked to death, but rather the fear of what this might mean for Sonic's next game. If they put a gun in Sonic's hand then that's it, I'm quitting the series for good.

Gwen This proves it folks. Shadow just isn't cool anymore. And the main reason for my aggravation is not Shadow getting milked to death, but rather the fear of what this might mean for Sonic's next game. If they put a gun in Sonic's hand then that's it, I'm quitting the series for good. *unable to download the movie due to crappy connection* I wouldn't leave the fandom altogether; but it'd probably mark the end of my interest in the games, too. At the very least, outside of the current standard of the Advance series, which seems to be the only set of titles that still remembers the raw platform playability and comparatively decent coding that Sonic used to be about. (Since when was "anime" a video game genre, anyway? That's just buying straight into the usual Western assumption that the only things to Japanese animation in the first place're big eyes, giant robots and bang-bangs.) If I wanted a shoot-'em-up, I'd buy one. Sonic's... well... Sonic. I might not've had to like putting Tails in a mech in SA2, but at least putting the resident tech whizz in a mech is vaguely in character. This has all of the in-character-ness of Cream's Bad Fur Day. Sonic or Shadow packing a piece just has no realistic justification. It's just not how either of them operates. They're walking projectiles themselves and can outrun freakin' bullets. They don't need guns. It makes no sense. If this is a cheap sop to the "But we're "mature" teenage fans, so we want R-rated Sonic games with gore, cussing and Amy getting her boobies out!" brigade, then Sega've lost my respect once and for all.

I'm at school right now, so I can't watch the video. I can't wait for this game! I really wasn't expecting this! I'm actually afraid that it may be some sort of April Fools joke.
I'm going to be very mad if it doesn't come out for the Gamecube. If it weren't for Kingdom Hearts 2, I'd never play my PS2 again. It's such a hassle! It never wants to read any disk I put in it. stressed

What the John is Sonic Team smoking these days? >.>
Nah, I've got nothing to add that Nuala and Samwise haven't already said. Sticking guns in the hands of Sonic characters (the ones that weren't designed for shooting at least) goes against the essence of Sonic gameplay. It's about running around at break-neck speeds and blowing robots up with the classic spin attack...
This really looks like a horrible April Fools joke, at least the optimist in me hopes so... But the realistic in me says Sonic Team's lost the plot.
Sonic is meant to be family friendly.
Realistic guns are not family friendly.
At any rate, the playable animal characters shouldn't be running around with 9mm's.

This is NOT an April Fools joke.
It was unleashed at the "Walk of Game" in San Fransisco during the weekend where Sega were honoured for the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
Sorry about the links, tried dragging them into the address bar? That might work.

Samwise Chubb It was unleashed at the "Walk of Game" in San Fransisco during the weekend where Sega were honoured for the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Talk about trying to make themselves undeserving of the honour. Which they are, really, since Sega killed Sonic years ago. If Sonic Team hadn't escaped the foul grasp of Sega long enough to create Sonic Adventure, then Sonic would've remained dead permanently. Why is Sega so intent on having character-assasinations carried out on all their best creations?

You're joking, right? Sure Sonic games are getting worse and worse, but they're still making more and more money. Sonic Heroes was one of the top selling games of last year, despite the fact that 90% of the fandom despise it.
Sega have a cash cow they cannot kill, even if they tried (which they might be, I dunno)
Sonic fans seem to be massochistic, the more crap they hand us, the more we rant about it, the more loyal we are to the series, because we're not going to NOT buy a Sonic game, heavens no. I wouldn't be able to rant about how crap it was if I didn't play it :p

I wouldn't be able to rant about how crap it was if I didn't play it :p Are you aware of how many Sonic games were made after Sonic & Knuckles? How shitty they were for the most part? And how badly they sold? Sega made every one of those games for the sole purpose of milking Sonic for everything he was worth. They succeeded in draining him dry until the franchise withered and died. So the truth is that Sega had a cash cow that they DID kill, and now they've got it back in relatively good health with a grand opportunity to have history repeat itself. I'm just worried about this Shadow game being the first of many crappy games designed for milking the Sonic franchise yet again, with each consequtive game selling less and less copies until finally the fans do rightly give up on the series again, just as they did before Sonic Adventure put things back on track. On the other hand, the majority of the fanbase is dumb, so if Sega can hit just the right quality of crap, then they may make it after all. Just like, say, Final Fantasy X-2.

Well the fact it is using the Heroes engine means that it is indeed a milker.
But, hey, if it fills in the Shadow plotholes and finishes up his story, I wont be complaining.

Dark Tanuki I'm at school right now, so I can't watch the video. I can't wait for this game! I really wasn't expecting this! I'm actually afraid that it may be some sort of April Fools joke. I hoped that initially, too. But it seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to for just a prank, even without the date being too early. Samwise Chubb But, hey, if it fills in the Shadow plotholes and finishes up his story, I wont be complaining. And that is why this game'll sell regardless. Even the fans who want nothing more than to see the back of Shadow once and for all're probably going to want to see how his story ends, if the ones I know're anything to go by. So Sega can keep throwing in these Heroes-esque convoluted plot twists for years on end, as the fans forlornly hope for a bit of concrete resolution. They're hardly going to kill the hedgehog that laid the golden eggs off again, completely. stare

That's the way the cookie crumbles, sadly. I don't think I'm ready to put the toys back in the chest just yet, even if the 3d games are going down in quality at a rapid pace, the 2d games are getting better and better. Sonic Battle relit my hope that they can manage some proper character driven stories.
I'll buy Shadow for the sheer fact I'm a completeist, and don't want to be behind everyone else when it comes to discussing it, plus Sonic Battle dealt with Gerald in a mature and sensible manner. I'm not jaded enough to believe that they are unable to do so again.
Although another "Heroes" and I will be.

sad That preview was... ah, weird. Shadow with a gac is kinda funny looking. I think they should make a game that plays like Sonic Adventure *with 6 different characters to play with and also 6 different abilities*. This new game is kinda bias to the Shadow fans and only the Shadow fans, which is why I'm curious as to how it sells *and also if they're going to make a part two staring the other heroes like Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles*...
