EoP Profile “Samedith”
Blue Samedith
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Uta

Origin of Name: Samedith, from Baron Samedi. Baron Samedi, by his many names, is the Haitian Vodou loa of the Dead. Along with being the loa of the dead, he is also in charge of resurrection. He is called upon when someone is near death to heal the dying one, for it is Baron Samedi who accepts the dead into the afterlife. Known for his salacious behavior and many indulgences, the loa is nevertheless a mighty and powerful figure who commands considerable respect.
Inspiration: Friends On the Other Side - The Prince & the Frog
The character of Dr. Facilier, called the Shadow Man, is a mysterious yet at first seemingly benevolent figure. A witchdoctor who is capable of calling upon the aid of beings from beyond, Dr. Facilier's plans unravel over the course of the film, leading him to go to greater and greater lengths to secure his victory. When ultimately he shows a willingness to kill to get what he wants, he is defeated by Tiana, who smashes the fetish that holds the power to take Prince Navene's form. It is then that Dr. Facilier is dragged to the Other Side by the very beings that he previously courted and called upon.
Personality: Wouldn't you like to make a deal? Samedith is sure that they can work something out that will be amendable for both of them. For, after all, he has quite a bit of experience turning things around to best suit him. Why shouldn't he use such abilities to the benefit of himself and those around him? Especially when the lion's share of the benefit happens to rest firmly within his own claws. Buyer beware, however - Samedith does not hesitate for a moment to go back on a deal if it will save his hide! He is a deceptive creature who has no compunction against tossing another in harm's way should the moment call for it.
This clever, conniving beast has been wise from the first, well able to assess a situation and to work it to his best advantage. One will rarely catch him flatfooted, for indeed he is very quick on those feet! He's quite good at making friends and influencing people, and does not mind going beneath himself for allies if it gets the job done. The job, in case you weren't following, is setting Samedith up in a place of power - specifically, the power behind the throne. He'll be the puppetmaster holding the strings, for holding direct power over the Weyr would leave him far too exposed.
And if there's one thing Samedith won't risk, it's his own precious hide. He is power hungry, to be sure, but he's also a bit of a coward. And, indeed, he does not enjoy getting his own claws dirty. Not when he can convince someone else to do it! After all, was it really poor Samedith's fault that things didn't turn out according to plan? Of course not. He would have executed it all perfectly, if only he had been on the frontlines - but Samedith will never be on the frontlines, not if he has anything to say about it.
Do go on ahead! He's right behind you. And if he happens to be behind you holding his claws in a rather menacing manner, well... he was just practicing. He's terribly good at coming up with excuses for his behavior. What he's not good at is copping to his own frailties. He is perfect, plain and simple, and his plans never have holes in them. Even if there are dragon sized holes he'll never admit to it, and will try to find ways to weasel out of trouble. Speaking of trouble, this dragon is that. One thing that he can always be counted upon is to work to his own best interests, so it would behoove his rider to convince him that the Weyr's best interests are his own.
Positive Traits: Smooth, Persuasive, Powerful, Intelligent
Negative Traits: Power Hungry, Duplicitous, Scheming, Smug
Adult Size: 28'
Physical Attributes: A tall, long blue, Samedith has quite an elegant yet somewhat awkward appearance. He is very slender and lithe, with rather large, broad wings.
Additional Notes: Attracted to power, this blue will be almost certain to fall for the charms of Gold ladies, more often than not. Not that he is incapable of finding enjoyment in any color that happens to cross his path, but he would so love having a Queen within his claws. He is likely to follow in Papa Krah's footsteps, seeing his arrangement as quite ideal.
Theme Song: Friends on the Other Side cover by Jake Turner-Clarkson
Egg: A large purple egg with a green, smoke-like marking upon it. This egg sits near the center of the clutch, and seems very smug.
Why Me? Oh Faranie, Faranie, Faranie. Where does Samedith start talking about your many qualities? They're a picture perfect match, from her icy beauty, to his striking looks... to their shared ambitions. But Weyrwoman Faranie will always be a dream - as this blue is most decidedly not a Golden queen. He is, however, quite a clever beast, and more than capable of achieving greatness, if only she had faith in him. Never mind that, though, as Samedith can and will convince her of their shared destiny. Why have one little Weyr when they could have the world? When they could pull the strings and conspire to hold Pern in their hands - or in his case, claws. Her disappointment at failing to Impress a Queen is not lost on Samedith, but he believes himself to be the better choice.
