Leonette’s heart skipped a beat when she came back into the hall. Did she really love him, like really love him? She really didn’t know but she knew the way she felt being with him was far better than the way she’d felt without him. She found that David was in a lot of ways her sound board, the person she could count on to tell her running in without thinking was a bad idea. It was because of him in a lot of ways that she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do after Hogwarts, not that she’d even tell him that. He’d probably tell her not to let him stop her on what she wanted to do. Of course now she wasn’t so sure…

Did David just ask her to date him? Leonette felt like she was living a dream. If this was the only way she could be in his life then she couldn’t turn it down. Besides her feelings were telling her that it didn’t matter what the Avery family put her through, she wouldn’t leave David for the world. "Date you...? You mean be your girlfriend...?" she questioned if she heard him right. God she hoped she did. “I will and I promise it won’t be just a fling.” She answered almost as quick as she asked the question. “I’m not going to walk away and there’s nothing your family can do to make me change my mind.” If anyone knew Leonette well enough they would know she never gave up. In fact, once she started something she was bound to never leave it unfinished.

“David, I could say the same thing about you.” She told him with a smile. “And just so you know I’m not worried about that.” She added. Him compromising on anything didn’t worry her she was pretty sure he wouldn’t be all that bad. After all she’d spent time with him long enough to know. Even the idea of him dealing with her friends didn't worry her, they were mostly on the team anyways. Though Leonette kind of wondered who this Edwin Ryans guy was...

Looking up at David Leonette felt a new sense of pride knowing that she got what she wanted after over a year of waiting. “David… what conditions did your grandfather give you exactly?” she asked him. “I mean, how bad are, they?” she added hoping they weren’t all that bad.

"Girlfriend. Significant Other. Something like that," He said realizing exactly what he had blurted out when Leo questioned him on it and then Leo's agreement and promising it not to be a fling floored him and he let out a bit of an astonished chuckle when she said there was nothing that his family could change her mind about in relations to him and turned his lengthy rant onto him.

"Wait... you're agreeing to this without even knowing the details first?" David said blinking. "Let me guess you are the type to pick up something and not read the fine print too?" Maybe it was a Gryffindor thing? Just rushing into things not weighing consequences. It wasn't like he was thrilled about the whole thing: he was, but he also tended to worry excessively. He smiled suddenly and took a step forward, running his hand through his hair and pausing to let out a relieved sigh and then a chuckle. That was when her realized she asked what the conditions were he was given.

David paused and then leaned against the wall, "Basically the typical sort of thing. He'll allow me to leave the family no strings attached when I graduate and said he won't interfere with me and my personal matters any more than anyone else. I'd be dead to him and the remaining family. Fairly simple actually. But, at that point I would have less than seven years before I would officially take over so he's betting me having to put up with things that long will lead me to make a practical decision and decide to remain and finish the rest of the terms so I can inherit."

"There's the obvious blood purity rubbish type things. Don't associate with someone of a lesser 'status' in that department beyond the necessity," David said. "And I'm responsible for handling anyone anywhere on the family tree-including any problem that may arise from disowned members who are younger than me. If my next sibling turns out to be a squib I get to chose how to best handle it, but am expected to do in a way that wouldn't go against the family tradition. I can probably stall on that one, even if he or she does turn out to be a squib to tell the truth. And I would start being considered more of an Avery than anything else."

"At graduation, if I did decide to put up with the lunacy of the lot the conditions are more of a strict timeline to adhere to and the expectation I would officially reside at the Avery Manor. Change my last name, since the head of the Avery family should have the actual last name... and the whole get married, have at least one kid, make sure you don't end up with someone that would bring down the family name, etc. etc. ,,,"

"But that's a long way away," David answered. "And the whole Avery Manor gives me the creeps and should be just burned down to the ground if you ask me. Basically keep everyone beyond anything too questionable and making sure my personal affairs would not be anything worse than what my grandfather could say 'better taste or decisions could have been made but it'll work at least in favor of the family'. Surprisingly, though, they that aren't horrible if I decided to take over. There isn't all that much to consider. The terms are surprisingly good considering. Then again, my grandfather doesn't exactly have nearly the number of so-called good candidates one would think," David answered.

He took a long sigh looking away waiting a few moments before looking back to Leo, "So are we like officially dating or what? I mean some of those conditions will be annoying to you. And, you are aware that almost everyone in our year alone hates me right? And, I guess I have to make up being an arse to you all the more if that is the case," He ended with a small smile at Leo and then bit his lip for a moment and added the smile turning into a slight scowl, "It still isn't fair for you to have to put up with that though... I mean logically the best thing to do would be definitely not date me, and probably barely even speak to me at best."

Leonette quickly shook her head at his question. “I wouldn’t do a thing like that, well not intentionally anyways.” She said honestly. “Why wouldn’t I agree to it? Think about it, I like you and you like me. I asked you to come with me to Hogsmeade because I wanted to get to know you better. If you didn’t catch on it was my way of asking you out. So, on top of all of that and the fact that you’re telling me, the only way I can remain close to you is by being with you as a real couple then I’m sure not going to say no.” Leonette explained.

Listening to the conditions of his inheritance Leonette didn’t see them being to terrible. Thinking them over, three of her friends happened to be muggleborn which could pose a minor issue for David unless nobody knew. God she hoped she would make things difficult for David down the line. ‘No backing out now Leo, you aren’t going to walk away after you just said you wouldn’t.’ Leonette thought shaking her mind of the thought.

“It’s official. I’m yours starting right now.” Leonette answered putting her foot down on the matter. “I don’t care what anyone will think. So long as we’re together nothing else matters.” She told him. “David,” She said with a small laugh. He wasn’t being an arse he was just trying to keep her out of matters that were complicated at best. “You don’t have to worry about what fair for me or not. It’s my decision isn’t it?” Leonette answered. “There’s no way you can talk me out of this now. You asked and I’ve decided. So, you’re stuck with me. Besides, being logical is more your thing anyways.” She told him her decision being final.

David stared as Leo quickly answered his monologue including the details of the arrangement with his family and went on growing more and more forceful in the declaration of her decision. When she said the words 'I'm yours starting now' he raised a brow half baffled and a bit disturbed about the wording and how similar it was to the mindset of most of the Averys where females tended to be overlooked or weren't expected to have to have any substantial talents and if they did it was brushed off more as merely being 'cute'. It was probably why Cathy being in Hufflepuff was so easily overlooked by his grandfather. He listened as Leo finished telling him there was no way he could talk her out of the decision and that he was now stuck with her and pointed out being logical was more his thing.

"You're the epitome of the stereotypical stubborn Gryffindor," He said shaking his head letting out a half relieved laugh and realizing his own stubbornness and hardheadedness had pushed the issue just as much as Leo's stubborn resolve did. "And technically if you were 'mine' I could just push you away just as easy as stick with you. Not that I'm suggesting that at all..." He raised his hands up innocently and then added, "And for God's sake don't use that kind of wording. People already have enough reason to hate me without thinking I'm some kind of pushy overly-possessive bad tempered boyfriend. People would side with you any day of the week."

Then he added, "And wait, you asking me to Hogsmeade was you asking me to Hogsmeade was you asking me out? I thought I was the one who pushed the issue in the first place and so does that mean technically...?" He trailed off trying to figure out timelines in his head, "I suppose the technicalities don't matter, then. And there was that rumor since second year running around anyways. I figure just let people figure things out on their own. Less headaches. And if it gets mentioned in passing whatever, right?"

"At least you know why I was trying to keep you away from Cathy, her merely meeting you in music club meetings was enough for her to figure out something was going on," David said with a sigh, "And I thought I had made a pretty valiant effort in distracting her."

He paused for a moment and then crossed his arm and frowned slightly and said, "I do owe you for being a complete arse to you, though. And now I'm obliged more than ever to actually make it up to you, so what is it that I can do to actually apologize in that regards. I shouldn't have made you cry, though, that was partially Tristan and Tara's fault and furthermore your fault. How hard is it to think to keep allergy medicine on you or take it when you know you are going into a house with cats?"

Leonette laughed as David told her not to use the wording she did. “David, you aren’t any of those things.” She said before freezing as he finally started to realize what she had said. Hogsmeade was indeed her way of getting him to go out with him. Thanks to her cousin’s girlfriend that is. Honestly she wouldn’t have come up with the idea on her own. David was right though she knew exactly why he wanted her to stay away from Cathy, to bad she figured it out so easily.

“Yes…” Leonette answered slowly. “That was me asking you out and you may have pushed it but I pushed it first.” She added even though they both felt they pushed the idea. In a lot of ways they both did, maybe that was a good thing. “No, it doesn’t but I think you’re right. We should just let everyone else figure it out. We certainly don’t need any more rumors floating around the castle this year.” Leonette said, truthful she wanted to avoid that as much as possible. Though she knew she’d have to tell her friends eventually.

Sighing a little Leonette shook her head as David continued believing he needed to make up for being a jerk. “David you really don’t owe me anything.” She told him. It was her own fault for not taking her medication and not mentioning she was allergic to cats in the first place. Suddenly Leonette’s cheeks turned red when he asked her how hard it was to remember something such as her medication. “Um… you really want to know?” she asked glancing away from him. “It’s pretty hard when you keep worrying about everyone else not to mention what you look like.” She said shifting her eyes back over to him.

Secretly Leonette had went over what she was wearing about half a dozen times and was still doing so when she was coming up to the door of his house. That’s how worried she was which for most girls wouldn’t seem out of place but Leonette wasn’t the type to worry about such things. She just wasn’t girly… or at least not normally…

He shrugged when Leo said he wasn't any of those things. It was hard to say what he was or wasn't like in a relationship at this point, though he was fairly sure some variant of bad tempered in general might be accurate. He listened as Leo answered about the Hogsmeade thing and then agreed with him about just letting everyone else figure out what the exact terms of their relationship was and when it changed from one thing to anything else.

He sighed exasperated when she said he didn't owe her anything and countered, "Maybe, I don't technically owe you anything, but I should still make it up to you."

He raised a brow when Leo asked if he wanted to know why she had trouble remembering about her medicine first siting worrying about everyone else and then worried about what she looked like. David uncrossed his arms and walked to where Leo stood and glanced at her as he thought for a moment and then said, laying a hand on her shoulder, "I guess you are lucky I plan to go into the medical field if you are that forgetful. And you were worried what you looked like? I'm shallow if I didn't think you all the time at least looked decent I never would have end up attracted to you at all. I figure it goes with the territory of growing up around Dad's career choice. Or I'm going to blame it on him."

Shaking his head he thought things over not moving his hand he added, "You look good in blue too. Which is probably a good thing because red is a taboo color with the Avery family. Hell I think I've seen my Mum wear anything red once or twice in my entire life. I'm still sticking with the fact that I prefer red on you though. The Averys obviously have a few screws lose if they are going to be upset over something as minor as a color."

With a chuckle he stepped away from Leo and said, "Anyways, think about what I can do to make it up to you about making you upset earlier. You might not think I owe you anything, but I'm going to feel bad about it until I do something to make it up to you. Pretty simple, actually."

It seemed David was just as stubborn as she was which surprisingly Leonette didn’t mind. Watching him walk over to her and place his hand on her shoulder she recalled that the last time they actually make physical contact with one another was the night the rumor started in second year. Leonette did feel lucky but not for the fact that her new boyfriend was going into the medical field but for the fact that she had a new boyfriend.

Lightly nodded Leonette knew it was silly to be worried about how she looked. Even her sister called her on it a few times since she started caring. Maybe she was lucky to have a guy like him. She may not know what he would be like as her actual boyfriend but she had a feeling things wouldn’t really change.

Smiling Leonette’s was glad she looked good in blue. Honestly she thought about wearing red again but thought it was best to not over do the color. “I’m glad you approve. Hopefully they don’t hate it that much or I’m going to need a new wardrobe.” She said, honestly all she ever had was red and the occasional blue and yellow. “What do you think of the color green?” she asked curiously. Was green even her color? Chances were probably not.

“Asking me to be your girlfriend was more than enough.” Leonette said although if he really felt it necessary she wouldn’t argue about it. Okay, she wouldn’t argue anymore about it. At least not after what he just said. “Okay, I’ll give it some thought if it’ll make you feel better. I certainly don’t want you feeling bad for an eternity of it.” She answered caving in to his demands. “So… I guess when I meet your parents I won’t be introduced as just a friend and classmate now will I.” Leonette said just realizing that fact.

"Oh, you'll have enough trouble merely being a Gryffindor," He said. "I suppose it isn't so much as the house but it just so happened the house a half-blood who had the so-called audacity not only to first date my mother, which is easily enough overlooked, but went on to date a branch family member for years before he eloped and decided to tell her father after the fact. Have to give it to him for the pure lack of fear. It was never exactly a secret that dating anyone linked to the Avery family tree wouldn't necessarily be wise for his health and well being all things considered. They were never particularly fond of the house before, but after that..." He trailed off with a shrug.

"As for red, at least my immediate family doesn't mind it. Actually, I think it is one of Mum's favorite colors, she just was so used to avoiding the color she rarely wears it, at least that was the only thing of her family she actually really picked up," David answered. "And green? There are a lot of greens out there. In the end it is just a color like red or blue," He ended with some thought to colors. "And there is the spell Coloromuto. You could easily change your current wardrobe to one color and back again using that spell if you are that concerned about it. If the worse they can complain about is colors, I wouldn't worry all that much."

He let out a small laugh and then listened as Leo claimed asking her to be his girlfriend was more than enough but then said she would give making things up to her some thought for quite a while. And then asked about how to be introduced to his parents. "I was thinking of not introducing you as anything beyond your name. Mum is meddlesome and annoying, especially right now, and I'm fairly sure she would try to pull out children's pictures and bore you to death with stories of me as a kid for her own enjoyment. And, honestly, I wasn't much different when I was younger than I am now. Dad already is wishing Mum's dead to die since the man has apparated into the house at least three times in the past two months just to check in on his 'favorite daughter' and make it very clear he has no trust in Dad to be responsible about taking care of Mum's medical needs and act as if my father has any control of whether the child is magical or not."

"I figure my dating choices doesn't matter all that much to them," David added with a shrug. "Mum and Dad always given me a fairly wide reign to do whatever I want. Besides, you'd have to deal with your sisters finding out at that point. It'll be ten times harder to distract those two if they knew we just started dating. And my Dad can use his cats to track what goes on in the house-or I've always assumed that is what he does. He seems to have some understanding with him. Might be because he is a squib. Generally the group tends to get along with cats from what I heard."

Leonette had a feeling her house placement was going to cause enough problems. However, maybe she could manage to have that part overlooked… somehow… Though, as David explained why it made much more sense. Eloping wasn’t best no matter what family but she imagined it would be worse for anyone in the Avery family. “I see why Gryffindor doesn’t sit well with them.”

“I’m not particularly concerned about it but that is a good suggestion.” Leonette didn’t want anything to make her reputation worse than being a part of Gryffindor could do to her. In a lot of ways it was the concern that it would link to David that she cared so much. Either way if he wasn’t worried about it maybe she shouldn’t be.

Leonette understood why he’d avoid mentioning anything besides her name. Worst case if they asked they could just say they were classmates and at best study partners. That would be believable right? “Good point we’ll just keep this on the down low…” Leonette had forgotten if he said anything to his parents her sisters would then find out. That meant she’d have to hide it from them until she felt like sharing. Which with her sister’s meant probably never, or she wouldn’t tell Mira at least.

“I question if that’s true or not.” Leonette said before pausing a moment. “Speaking of cats and my sisters… where are those two? I mean I know I was a bit distracted but Mira did go downstairs right?” There Leonette went again being the concerned parent when she was only their sister. Deep down she hoped they weren’t causing trouble.

Maxmillian Oliver Chaisty had never been particularly surprised by Cara Avery's choice in husbands. While others might have questioned it, the marriage to the squib and doctor to muggles made perfect sense. She was what Maxmillian considered a whore during her time in Hogwarts making her way through every male Slytherin (and several Gryffindors). Once trash, always trash. Maxmillian only cared as it was that Cara's poisonous influence ruined his sister. Acacia would never have shacked up with that halfblood Gryffindor abomination if it hadn't been for Cara. No, Cara poisoned Acacia's mind with things like "follow your heart". While Maxmillian understood the importance of love, any sane pureblood knew very well you just didn't love those lesser than you. It was nonsense.

Even if he hadn't owed the Averys for their generosity in getting him out of Azkaban, Maxmillian would have been happy to take on the task that was assigned to him. It was simple really: get "Dr." Sinclair League out of the picture freeing the Averys to with the original will of Dr. League and his late wife to save the youngest Leah from turning into something like the eldest daughter Cathaline did and also hopefully to ship off Cathaline somewhere so she couldn't further dishonor the Avery family name. She was a Hufflepuff: disgusting. The son wasn't much better but his brood mare of a wife was at least pureblood (what a miracle) and was to provide a child soon. Maybe the family would luck out and the child would be a son and the wife would die. One can only hope.

On a night that Leah League had gone to spend the night with her older brother and Dr. League was to be at his home, Maxmillian made his way to the London Townhouse. Dressed in a dark suit, Maxmillian strolled down the street of the Belgravia neighborhood before ascending the steps to the front door. Not bothering with a knock, Maxmillian raised his wand slightly and with a quiet alohomora opened the door. Shutting it behind him, he lit his wand to see in the dark hallway. Sleeping on the steps was an ordinary cat, but as Maxmillian took a step forward the cat opened its eyes and fixed its stare at him before turning and racing up the stairs. Maxmillian narrowed his eyes at the cat and followed up the stairs. The master suite was on the third floor after all.

Dr. Sinclair Alfred-Jon League xxxxx
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
xxxxxxxxx
Time: 2031-2032
Location: League Family Home
Looking: Asleep/Half-Asleep

------------------------------------------------------------------------xx

Leah's nanny had fallen ill to food poisoning earlier that day and had had to go to the hospital which had pulled Sinclair from his work and he had to arrange for someone else to watch Leah for the next couple days. Thankfully, his son was able to do so. It helped that David's wife Leo was on maternity leave at the moment from her own work being very pregnant at this point and the two had gotten a house elf. After having worked to arrange around the inconvenient illness of the nanny and still performing surgery later that afternoon, thankful in his branch of medicine he could delay a surgery a few hours without any concern about the person possibly dying on him, he was more than happy to drink two glasses of wine and go to bed early.

Sinclair was fast asleep in his bed, curled up at the foot of the bed was the two rather old cats Tara and Tristan. The two cats had passed their life expectancy and if it wasn't for the fact he half suspected that having three magical children and did have a magical wife might have influenced the life span of the cats he'd have thought to try and put the cats in some record book. He barely stirred as the bedroom door was pushed open by his third cat: the British Shorthair that David had brought home after his fifth year. He had apparently rescued the cat named Charlie from some horror of the OWL exams. Charlie never took to sleeping on his owner's bed, likely because the two older cats chased him off. Instead Charlie opted to sleep in Leah or Cathaline's room (where he curled up with the cat MeiMei) when either girl was there and slept on the stairs when both girls were gone.

Charlie had spotted the stranger who had intruded in the home. Had seen the man's cold blue eyes and could smell the ill intent. Charlie knew that he did not need to worry about Cathaline's safety or Leah's as both girls weren't there that night but that still left his true owner, Sinclair's, safety. The British Shorthair had a mission: he must alert Sinclair of the evil man. Leaping onto the bed, Charlie stepped onto his master and claws out walked up him. Sinclair tossed at first and then sat up with a swear. He glared groggily at the cat but Charlie didn't let it deter him as he meowed loudly and irritably trying to accurately communicate his distress to his squib owner.

Sinclair frowned as the cat's message slowly was processed. He turned on his lamp and was getting out of bed the moment the master suite's bedroom door banged open. Standing there in mostly darkness was the redheaded ex-con Maxmillian Chaisty. Sinclair was immediately struck by the similarities Maxmillian held to his sister Acacia. Casey and Maxmillian shared the same red hair and certain fierceness and an equal stiffness to their posture and bearing, the posture and bearing of ones who come from a long line of stiff purebloods who's goal was power, money, continuing their pure line, and destroying those who stood in their way. Sinclair narrowed his eyes at Maxmillian and demanded, "What are you doing here?"

Maxmillian raised his wand and said, "I'd rather you not speak to me squib, but I suppose the reason I vaguely respect. Your daughter."

                                                "Which one?" He hissed.

"Both," Maxmillian answered, "the youngest might be saved still and put on the right path... the other... she's expendable. I'd have disowned any child of mine who was sorted to Hufflepuff, though I suppose I can't expect much. You did marry a whore and are nothing but a filthy squib."

The realization hit Sinclair, his in-laws had never made it a secret they thought they should be raising Leah ever since Cara died. He had to give the old couple credit, they had arranged for a murderer to be in their pocket when they worked to release Maxmillian from prison. Someone who would have no qualms about murdering him nor would blackmail the couple at a later date. Maxmillian owed them not only for his release but for the arrangement of taking his daughter in while he was incarcerated. Sinclair couldn't help but let out a short laugh. It made perfect sense. It was exactly what David had warned-not to excessively irritate the Averys. So, not just one child taken to do their own twisted means was enough. Sinclair hadn't had much choice when the Averys spoke to him about naming David heir but David was older, more rational when it came. Leah was younger. She had lost a mother so early she did not remember one and now was to lose a father. A father that if the Averys had their way they would twist to be considered scum. It wasn't hard to poison a child's mind.

He had rewrote the will to have Leah and Catie (as she wasn't an adult by muggle standards quite yet) to go to David and Leo for custody but it was likely the Averys did not know that or if they did they had already worked for a revision of the will. Besides even with David with custody they would have more access to Leah. David was heir of the family and would never risk irking the Averys as far as Sinclair had in banning any visitation at all by their grandparents as he had done for over a year now. Sinclair had to give some credit to the two. Taking a deep breath he said waving his hand at the two Rex Devon's who had been stirring with their extremely short hair standing on end and hissing at the redheaded intruder.

As Maxmillian raised his wand, both lunged off the bed at him, and Maxmillian redirected his wand and with a green light he blasted twice, Tristan laid sprawled out mid lunge dead at his feet, the other, Tara, Maxmillian shook off his hand and kicked after she landed on the floor. "Damn menaces," Maxmillian said before raising his wand again towards Sinclair.

Dr. Sinclair League raised a brow and said, "Go ahead."

"I never asked your permission squib," Maxmillian growled. The spell "Avada Kedavra" rolled easily off Maxmillian's tongue. He didn't even wait to watch the squib's body hit the floor as he turned, slamming the door behind him and strolling out. Charlie the cat stood on the bed watching in horror as his beloved human fell. He only reached the door in time for it to slam on his face and he began to scratch the door letting out long mournful meows.

                                                ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cathy tried to be a good sister, she truly did, and by doing so she agreed to babysit Leah often. She also worried that Leah by just having David and Leo around was bound to pick up his unnecessary worrying. David at least should know better since their father told them all the time not to worry as it gave premature wrinkles. She had invited Jean over for dinner with her and Leah as she and Leah worked together in the kitchen.

Cathy had only turned around for a moment when she heard a screech as one of the knives she had yet to put away clattered to the ground beside Leah when Leah was trying to be as helpful as a five year old could be in putting away dishes. Cathy turned around to see Leah staring at the knife and reaching to pick it up. Rushing in, Cathy pulled Leah back and chided, "Careful. What if you cut yourself? Scars aren't pretty for girls. And you know what Mum used to say about being pretty?"

Leah frowned and then looked up at Cathy and then said brightly, "Being pretty is one of the most important things a girl can be."

Cathy smiled and tapped Leah on the nose and said, "Exactly, even if I bet David could heal up any nasty cut perfectly."

"Yep. Viddy is the best!" Leah said with a grin.

Cathy chuckled and picked up the knife and placed it in the sink to wash later, not even seeming to realize how unusual of a life lesson she was instilling into a five year old child. For Cathy she had grown up in this very home funded by other's vanity in looks and with a father as a plastic surgeon and a very pretty mother looks were always stressed. And it was true, being pretty was important. She wouldn't be half as popular of a quidditch star if it wasn't for the fact she was pretty.

Jean arrived at Cathy's home fine and well, he could admit that he liked the sights of London but of course he still love Edinburgh as it was his hometown. But well, recently, he decided to become independent and move out with his bestfriend Eli, because for Jean (though he never said it out loud) the eccentric albino was like a brother for him. Of course, Eli had to convince Jean's overprotective mother for the two of them to move out but thank goodness his father agreed with them as much as how painfully neutral the professor could be. He was on his day-off when Cathy called him for a dinner... At her house. Jean was about to worry about David's threats but when he'd thought about he had faced much worse things in his job as a Witch Watcher, gathering evidences and leads from dangerous places here and there. Also interrogating stubborn suspects with some death threats wasn't helping, either.

Of course, like a sweet and artistic boyfriend he was, he arrived at her door with a bouquet of Gladiolus, because roses were short-lived, overrated and cliche. And hey, Gladiolus were nicknamed as "Sword Flowers" so why not? Beside, not everybody gives their love-bird flowers like these so he was pretty sure something different were always the best, because creativity always makes it best.

Jean decided to come to the kitchen to help out his girlfriend when he found himself hearing her conversation with a six-year-old (okay, well, he didn't exactly know how old Leah is but it was definite a child-age). He was relieved that Cathy was able to catch the knife because children might hurt themselves and bleed with dangerous sharp things, but when she went on on how scars weren't pretty for girls... Jean knew there was something wrong, but of course, he still refused to show her his sectumsempra scar on his left chest but that line from his girlfriend just didn't sound right. At all. He shook his head with a dissatisfied face when Leah replied that "Being pretty is one of the most important things a girl can be." God, if his tattooed mother were here he knew her very very well that she would call that bullshit, because she literally taught him that way. She was an artist, and so was he. So, he decided that he should speak out about this, "I disagree wi' tha'," His voice sounded upset for sensitive people though it seemed to shake out of reluctance, but part of him was screaming to say it, "I'm no' gonna lie but, really Cate? Of all the things tha' was important to daily life and from wha' I'm seeing here, make-ups and looks are always important? Give yer sister a break, what if she ended up bein' a people-pleaser?"

Cathy froze for a moment, spinning around when she heard Jean's speak up in disagreement with her conversation with Leah. It was not entirely that he said he disagreed, though she had rarely heard him disagree verbally with her or anyone else for that matter, it was the tone. She frowned, crossing her arms, looking a bit perplexed and annoyed at the same time. Meanwhile Leah looked up between the two. "They're not always important or the most important but they are very important," Cathy said. "How do you think my Father was able to afford this place?" She uncrossed her arms and motioned around the kitchen. "His entire livelihood was made on people's looks..."

Cathy frowned and continued, knowing, much to her dread that a possible argument was going to arise. She had Jean never argued. Jean was generally easy going and she never wanted to show anything but a happy face, even now when she knew it wasn't entirely healthy to bottle up her feelings. Even for her it was impossible to be always happy. "I was told that very same thing and I turned out fine, right? And, Dad, well he always said smile because frowning causes premature wrinkles and no one likes wrinkles. Looks are important. Do you think I'd be half as popular as I am if I didn't look like I do? Are you saying how I look has nothing to do with why you like me? If you don't care for what I look like then why do you like me?"

She frowned and muttered glancing away, her cheeks burning in embarrassment at the forwardness of her questions and said, "Besides I was a Hufflepuff... I can't help being a people-pleaser. Is that so wrong to be like that? I want people to like me... why shouldn't I want the same thing for my sister?"

Jean saw her frown and he was aware that something bad was gonna come, but then Cathy rarely frowned and his standards of being intimidated to someone was below average. He gritted his teeth hopefully to suppress his anxiety, as he decided to stand on his ground. 'If I was able to survive in my daily career then I'm able to handle an arguement' Or well, that was what he thought, after all he and Eli rarely had a hot argument unless they were probably talking how how Wizards were secretly Vampires. But really? Why did she had to bring up her dad? The Doctor literally had nothing to do with this conversation, not at all. "No offense bu' leave your da' out of this" He said, frowning, "And who cares about wrinkles, anyway? Everybody has them, it's reality after all,"

He rubbed his forehead out of annoyance when she still cannot see his point, but that was fine he decided, it was better off this way than her continuing to make another people-pleaser, "Yeah sure, bu' sacrificin' yer own deep feelin's and problems jus' for what people wanted to see you isn' a good idea, either. And yes..." His voice trailed out, he went back from being reluctant again, but he forced himself, "Listen, I love you not because you're pretty or popular or anything back in school , it's..." And that was how he lost his voice, as he couldn't actually figure out why he loved her in the first place, even if he tried tracing back to their first year selves in Hogwarts. He looked at Cathy and he finished saying, "I-It's because... Bloody hell, I don' know..."

He facepalmed as of how he couldn't figure an answer, but he looked up as he recalled her using her Hufflepuff history being related to her being one, and he pointed out, "Yes, it's wrong... and being a Hufflepuff has nothin' to do wit' it because as far as I could remember, Iris was nowhere near to a people-pleaser and she's in Hufflepuff, if she were one I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have gotten tha' tattoo right across the face" And he could admit, he did find Iris scary as time went by in seven years, but he could see that the redhead changed as much as he thought he did, too. "My mum always told me tha' if a person grew up wantin' to please people most of the time even if they barely knew them, they end up hurting themselves because they lack the time in being hones' to themselves. That's how I'm told, we don't need approval from anyone to make ourselves happy, but then..." Then he looked down to the floor and shrugged, with a voice gradually dry, "But then, if you think being a Hufflepuff makes you like that, then I must've been an insufferable know-i'-all because I was a Ravenclaw... No matter how much I don' like those kind of people,"
