Avalbane McCarthy ☎xxxxxxxxxxxAvalbane's • eyes seem to light up at the talk about his mother's opera house. Oh that was so fascinating to her. Of course she had never had the money or means to go to such a place, but when others talked about them she always had such vivid ideas of what one would look like. Regal and exotic. Beautiful and vintage. All of it mixed together to create a perfect harmony or old and new, something Avalbane would love to experience in her life. It did not matter to her that Theo's outfit was a costume. Wasn't technically every outfit for times like these a costume? People did not normally dress so extravagant, they were putting on different clothes and becoming someone else for the night. It was exactly what costumes did, they changed your identity. Most the time at least. So to her, technically everyone was wearing a costume, though she would not vocalize her opinion on this. Especially in case someone disagreed on that subject.
Her eyes looked up from the floor as he spoke to her. Oh no, dancing! Automatically the fear she felt could have been read by anyone a mile away. She raised her arm and gripped the upper part of her other arm and kind of looked around the room. "Ah um. well, dis is loike...um, me first dance. oi don't really nu 'oy ter dance. oi'm sorry, oi don't mean ter not nu waaat ter du." She felt so bad. How could she do this to him? How could she make him dance with someone who would slip and fall and cause a scene? Avalbane felt so bad. Her shoulder sunk as she just stared down at the ground in front of her. Maybe she should have paid attention to that video that was playing in Control. That could have helped right?
"Maybe. umm, m-maybe Ah've learned sum from watchin' de people. oi..i did watch people's feet." She was trying to figure out how to make Theo feel better about having her as his partner. Would he be mad now? Hopefully not. She really did not want that.
The band had stopped their song, which Avalbane still did not noticed existed. Was there really music playing? The chimes from the clock told her that it was dancing time though, and it made her jump slightly. Turning her head to watch all the people enter onto the dance floor with their partners, she wasn't sure what to do. Does Theo lead her? Does she lead him? Maybe she would just wait for his reaction to such things. Whatever happened, she would probably just follow his lead.

“Why thank you.” Dani replied smartly, with a grin. She was amused by his hesitant mimicking. Was he one of the aliens? She glanced at his wrist and saw the watch-like device strapped to it. Ah. At least this probably was her partner then. Wondering briefly which of the Nova Academy students this was – she certainly didn’t have them all memorized – she smiled pleasantly at the boy. “Hi there, nice to meet you, I’m Dani.”
The music paused briefly and then picked up again at a faster pace. People around the room began to pair off and head onto the floor. She could see some of her classmates hesitantly joining the swirling crowd.
(( I WIN THE SHORTEST POST EVER AWARD :AWESOME: . In my defence though, we should get dancing, and I wanted to get a little interaction done before they ran out there x’D . ))

Napoleon // "Pinky"Nap returned her smile. " Hi. I'm Napoleon" He followed her gaze to the crowd and watched as people started gathering in the center. Nap took the last couple of steps down and stood just out of arms length of Dani. He glanced at her while she was distracted, she was incredibly tall, though most of the human's were to him. Even his Nova classmates towered over him. He was used it though, those of his race were all naturally small. A pang of homesickness hit him as he stood there, surrounded by humans without even another Nova student in sight. He'd heard that Scottie was supposed to be here and Violet was somewhere. He couldn't see either of them though and he wouldn't even recognize Scottie if he did see him. They didn't even let Violet get away without a disguise and so far as Nap was concerned, she could have blended in perfectly on her own. " What happens now?" He asked Dani as he came out of his thoughts. He'd met up with his partner as told but after that...he hadn't paid the best of attention to Flo and Hack earlier. ((bleh the muses are fighting xd ))

Dani smiled down at her vertically challenged partner as he came down the steps. She probably shouldn’t be thinking this, he might have taken offence, but he looked absolutely adorable. He was looking around the room with a kind of general confusion, and he was just so short, that he reminded her of her little cousin (who was only about seven years old the last time she had seen him). She really should stop thinking like that though, because he was an alien, and for all she knew, he could even be older than her! Dani thought she saw a flicker of sadness cross her partner’s face and resisted the urge to scoop him in a bear hug. She cleared her throat quietly and looked out at the room where the others were beginning to get into the music.
“Now, I guess, we dance.” She informed Napoleon with her best ‘serious face’. “Something about calibrating the scanners in the floor, or some other such rot. Have you danced much? I guess that is a bit of a stupid question, you probably wouldn’t have the same kind of dances where you come from anyway.” Somehow she doubted that the waltz was literally a universal style.
“Don’t worry, we can always make it up as we go along.” She joked and bumped him playfully on the shoulder with her fist. She had had some formal training, but other than him possibly dancing on her shoes, she did see some potential difficulty for them preforming anything too complicated. “Shall we join them?”

DAPHNE RAY civilian reporter As she mingled with the crowd – greeting a few important people, chatting briefly with her few acquaintances – she spotted someone she certainly did not expect to see. Across the room, chatting with a woman in a pretty in a form fitting black suit, was Zone. Black Blood. Whatever you wanted to call him. What was he doing here? It wasn’t that she wouldn’t expect to find a few hero-types milling about (what with the evenings for cast being slightly cloudy with a high chance of armed robbery) but she hadn’t expected him to be there. After all, it had taken a lot of string pulling for her to snag an invite, and he didn’t exactly come off as the wining-and-dining type during their last encounter. She might have gone over to talk to him, had he not already been otherwise engaged.
Daphne was in the middle of a conversation with a retired senator and his wife when the first interesting thing happened, a little while later. She had been listening politely to the man, but one woman could only take so much dry political jargon without a bit of scandal or government corruption to keep her interested. If the conversation had been a little more engaging, the whole affair probably would have gone right over her head, but as it was, her mind – and eyes – was wandering as she listed, and nodded, and generally pretended to care. In her idle scan of the room behind the senator her eyes had come to rest on a young purple haired boy who was having a heated discussion with a petit dark haired girl (Society Brats Cause Chaos at Charity Ball! She mused briefly). He seemed to be chewing her out for something and then… he froze.
He had gone stiff, like he had heard or seen something that had put him on guard, but he was staring at a wall. It didn’t appear to have been caused by anything the girl had said… Daphne might not have thought anything else of it, if she had not noticed a subtle change in the behaviour of a few other people – at few other kids! – at the exact same moment. A few chatting in the corner had gone silent, and others that had been loitering aimlessly about the room began to pair up, as if prompted by some invisible cue. A quick glace around the room seemed to show that no one else had thought anything suspicious. But then again, who was really paying attention to the kids? Maybe they were following instructions to act at a certain time? It – she looked up at the clock on the wall – almost exactly seven.
Just then a round of applause broke through the room and the Nyancats picked up tempo with a new song. The senator had all of her attention again as he excused himself and his wife to go join the people beginning to dance.

Juno Tsing || Sharp Shooter
-------
It seemed like Juno had been somewhat bedazzled for quite some time wandering around the ballroom and dance floor staring blankly at people. And before he knew it, the song had changed. There was applause and couple were movin' out. He wasn't quite sure he even remembered what the little intercom message from Hack was. Something about Catfish and Kitties, and then a Hairband?. And a Shortstop.
But the moment the dance-y waltz tune came on, there was really only one thought that'd struck Juno's mind. Miss Sea Flower. This song was surely perfect for ballet, right? Or dancing in general. It was so floaty. And without realizing it he had made his way around the entire dance floor close to back to where he'd started. He noticed a small group of students on the stares, Isaac! looking quite dapper. And there was also a student he didn't recognize, an alien perhaps? And there was that angry young blond girl he'd met just earlier. They seemed to be busy however, so he left them to it realizing that he needed to find his own partner.
Schmoozing his way over to the young teen who was still chatting up Anemone, he bowed a large giant gesture once each to the two lovely young ladies. "Good evening Miss and Miss!" He said with a wide smile lingering on his face. "I hope you don't mind Anemone, but I must steal my partner away for a dance now." He offered his hand out to Clowrey. "Looking quite dazzling tonight Miss Clowrey."
Before walking away with his partner however, he did turn back slightly to call brightly out to Anemone. "Hey, save a dance for me later!"

_ _©ⓛⓐⓘⓡⓥⓔⓡⓔ ± ©ⓛⓞⓦⓡⓔⓨ ⓔⓘⓡ"Oh, hey Shades!" Clowrey greeted when Juno came over. What--was it time to dance already? Talking to Anemone, she nearly forgot...! It was a good thing Juno remembered then. 'What was it Hack said about...dancing. Something about the floors being able to pick up...something. Ahhhhh whatever. When something happens it'll happen!' "Why thank you, Mister Tsing," she chuckled, laying her hand in his, "and you look >>awesome<< as well. I'll talk to you soon, Anemone!" She waved lightly to her friend as the two left to dance. Clowrey then wondered, as they were leaving, where Ane's partner could be...Stuck in the crowd perhaps? Hopefully, he'll get his a** over there soon or else he'll be missing an a**, Clowrey thought to herself. 'He better not leave Anemone all by herself over there...' "Have you done this before? Not the dancing I mean..." she inquired of Juno, glancing around the room for a moment. She still hadn't seen her dad or her brother yet, which she wasn't sure how it bothered her more--Why were they late? What if something does happen? What if her family gets hurt? What if ANYONE gets hurt?

xxxxIt was typical that no one knew where her partner, Straffe, was currently brightening up with his contagious smile. Ane always had the worse luck- of course no one had seen him. She doubted that he was late, either, far too much of a social butterfly to miss anything as big as this. Pale eyes darted around the dance floor once more in search for Chocolate, nodding weakly in reply to Theo's departure and Clowrey's many assurances. Anemone's eyes seemed glazed over, almost as if she was in a trance; feigning attention for the outside world as her mind raced. Panic panic panic. She could feel her heart racing in her chest, aware of every pump as she felt it surge through her entire body. Anemone could do social events like these; her mother's title demanded it. She had come to be able to function at the Academy, too. But mash the two together in some sort of fabulous social outing with her peers... "Your dad?" She chirped, echoing Clair's comment emptily. Anemone had barely comprehended what her friend had said, but caught the jist. Tea. Tea was good, as was the tea Clowrey had given her previously. Interest in the outside world resparked. "Ooh, that would certainly be lovely." Anemone pushed her glasses up onto the bridge of her nose,
xxxxBefore she knew it, a tall, familiar figure had bounded on over. She squinted slightly at the bright red she met at eye level, before glancing up at Juno's face. "O-oh, hello." She seemed a bit more taken off guard by his sudden appearance than usual, thanks to her current obliviousness to the outside world. She simply shook her head profusely as Juno asked if she minded, and lightly smiled and ducked her head politely as they left. Eyes dropping to the floor as Juno called out back to her, she fidgeted with the edge of her sleeves and seemed to blush slightly...
xxxxNow alone, Anemone meekly wandered around the edges of the dance, staying true to her wallflower title. Still no sign of Straffe... her eyes darted to the middle of the ballroom floor. Surely he wasn't in there... r-right? Nibbling on her bottom lip, eyes met the back of a familiar purple ponytail. "A-aah!" Anemone gasped to herself softly in excitement. Heels clicked as she rushed over to her partner, relieved to have finally found him. "Hello," Anemone called out, lifting a hand in greeting.

Basia didn`t really know what to think of her partner, she hadn`t really met anyone like him before. Duty dictated that she dance with her partner, so once she got in, she waited a little on the side for Arthur to show up. Soon Basia was getting a transmission from someone called fat kid; he explained what everyone looked like and gave them each a nickname as well. Glados, that was a cool name, she wondered what it meant, she`d have to look that up later. Basia would probably have to look up what plaid pants were too, for now she was going to hunt for the guy she`d met before in purple pants.
It didn’t take her long to spot him in the crowd, and head towards him. Basia didn`t think they matched at all, in fact she`d never seen anywhere wearing purple pants. Needless to say, once she got to him, her brows lifted. “So we’re going to dance?” That was the plan right? Basia gave a quick nervous glance around, she’d really rather try to find her mother or her roommate, or maybe even Theo.

Napoleon // "Pinky"
Right! Hack had said something about sensors! Nap looked down at the ground beneath his feet though the sensors obviously wouldn't be visible. "No... Not like that" He thought of home again. They danced of course, he didn't know of any intelligent species that didn't have some form of dancing. The waltz was certainly not part of his repertoire though.
Nap didn't notice her coming closer until she bumped his shoulder. He near jumped out of his skin. In a flash he was crouched on the floor a few feet away. Thankfully the holo disguised his glistening skin as he'd reacted instinctively to the perceived attack. Nap blinked up at Dani, hyperventilating with fear before forcefully relaxing his body and standing up. He couldn't hide the tremble though. She wasn't being hostile, humans were just touchy in general. At least his time he didn't cry out. Nap hesitated before answering her question. They were supposed to dance, but he didn't know the dance! From the looks of it most of the others didn't know the dance either so he wouldn't stand out. Then again he was already entirely to close to people to be comfortable even with the safety of the holo. Nap inwardly groaned, he really didn't want to do this at all. Here's the kicker though...Nagataur would KILL him if he made another scene. They were supposed to be adjusting and learning to work with the Academy for as long as they were here. He returned to Dani a little sheepishly. "Yes. Let's go."

 DANICA T MOOR conduit
Needless to say, Dani was a bit alarmed when her partner shot off like a rocket after she bumped his shoulder. She hadn’t spiked him had she? She could normally tell when her powers were flaring up! After the initial shock, it occurred to her that her worrying train of thought would only make things worse, and calmed down. It might not have even been her fault. Maybe he was just nervous because of the number of people (aliens, by his perspective) he was surrounded by. Maybe he had a touch based power, like she did. Or maybe he just had really sensitive skin. Either way, Dani felt like a heel. “Oh, ah… sorry,” she mumbled, “no touching. Got it.”
It had been one of the first times that she had made casual physical contact with anyone since coming to the academy and the poor kid was practically shaking. Over the months that she had been there she had enforced a certain level of distance – physically – between herself and the other students, except for under specific, (mostly) controlled, situations. She hadn’t even noticed herself doing it, which was a huge step for her, as far as evidence of general comfort level at the academy went.
She made a wide motion towards the dance floor and put on what she hoped was comforting grin. “Well then; let’s go, er, party like rock star.”
Danica lead the way away from the stairs and towards the dancing throng, although she made a point to stay near the edge, where the crowd was thinner. What ever his reason for startling earlier, she could at least try to avoid it happening again. Unsure exactly what to do, she waited for her partner to decide on how they would dance. Most people, it appeared, were doing various forms of classical dances (poorly, in Dani’s slightly competitive opinion), but maybe it would be better if the two of them stuck to something a little more contemporary. Like the hokey-pokey.

"Please do,"Cracks from the irritated shortstop can be heard grudgingly. “Noted.” Surely, those knuckles were hungry to meet someone’s face before this day end. Noticeably, the other undercover folks were managing better than him. He glimpsed at his tall friend, the were-pard and a couple of students “…somewhat”, yes managing, somewhat. So Zone thought of keeping his wits together and just be his best. Sadly, his best cannot be grasped anywhere in this situation. "Have you ever danced before then?"That sounded like a challenge to a duel. He swallowed a spit. Fortunately, Flo’s a woman. “You guys don’t believe in practicing, ugh. Why do we have to do this on the spot? Watching a vid wasn’t enough darn it. “ he muttered loud enough in his breath. “...dammit, should probably stop whining.” He thought in dismay, since he hated pushovers and he’s exactly doing it now. Zone’s a man of practice. He usually spends his leisure time alone in training. Dancing with a partner seems outrageous. Just the sole concept of dancing was unspeakable. If they had at least practiced, then he wouldn’t be nervous this much, and was unconsciously tapping his foot. He heard of capoeira, a martial art that combines the elements of dance and music. A dance used in fighting wasn’t bad, but doing that dance here would be the end of his world with the attention he’ll get. At least it would be useful, than learning waltz. “Yeah, I should probably learn that.”“And why a scanner beneath the dance floor, why not a scanner on the ceiling instead?” he rolled his eyes at the thought. He was doing it again, and catching himself whine in his thoughts, was vexing. At one point, orphans have a way into getting into him. He felt it in his childhood, when his mad parents did not treat him as their child unlike other families he saw, and the two people that made him feel what home was, had died. “Ok! Depressing thoughts have to end here too.” He slapped both his cheeks lightly as the music changed. “Have to be in character…”Riled up and a scowl displayed on his face, he remembered parts of the video he watched earlier. Hesitant and a bit robotic in gesture, “was it left or right?” he offered his hand to Dr. Flo and crossed his other hand to his back and bowed slightly and said, “May I have this dance? –and get this over with.” The last part lost in his gritted teeth, er... awkward grin. “This music is horrible, just saying.”((orz I'm shameful...sorry, you're free to whip my back till it bleeds))

The music was beginning to play for the first 'official' dance, and Theo watched hesitantly as others began to flow onto the dance floor. Turning his gaze back to Avalbane as she spoke he could already see that she was not all that confident in regards to dancing.
Ah um. well, dis is loike...um, me first dance. oi don't really nu 'oy ter dance. oi'm sorry, oi don't mean ter not nu waaat ter du.
Theo gave Avalbane a small reassuring smile and offered her his hand. Even if she didn't know what they were supposed to do in a formal dance, he did, so he would make sure to carry them both and walk her through it some. Besides, they were supposed to be orphan kids, right? Not many orphan kids knew how to formally dance properly, so this was to their advantage, right?
Maybe. umm, m-maybe Ah've learned sum from watchin' de people. oi..i did watch people's feet.
"It's ok," Theo said, waiting patiently to lead Avalbane out onto the dance floor where the others were gathering, "I, uhm, I'll lead and stuff. You, uhm... you don't have to worry about it Avalbane."
He hoped that she had some confidence in him not to make them both look like fools. He also hoped he remembered all of the dance steps his mother taught him, because that would be really embarrassing if he froze up on them. Man, why couldn't this have been something more simple, like protecting a bank, or making sure the mayor wasn't shot.

“You guys don’t believe in practicing, ugh. Why do we have to do this on the spot? Watching a vid wasn't enough darn it. “
Zone was REALLY uncomfortable, that much was obvious to Flo, what with the way he was swallowing and tapping his feet. She couldn't help but find it extremely amusing, but thought it'd be rather... inappropriate, to laugh, or smile even. Give the man some space at the very least, right? So instead, she simply "hmm'd" and nodded.
Then the music started up, various pairs started forming, and...
“May I have this dance? –and get this over with. This music is horrible, just saying.”
"Certainly," she replied with a small smile to his awkward looking grin. He looked kind of stiff, but at least he seemed to know what he was doing... She placed her hand in his, stepped easily into a dance-ready position, and without really thinking, began to lead the stiff man into a waltz.
"I thought the music was alright," she commented conversationally in between dance steps while surreptitiously watching her feet, in case of toe stepping; one could never be too careful. "Perhaps the Nyancats aren't quite your type?"

Koric’s comment about attracting a raven wasn’t heard and if she did, she wouldn’t pay much attention to it. For the little brat, the world revolves around her. Or to be exact, being the sole heir to the Bislig family, the world must revolve around her or they’ll face her wrath. The reason probably was the two people she can’t attract attention to, long enough, her parents.
"If being adopted by your father meant being siblings with you, I'd rather be an orphan." His expression became lazy and disinterested.
“Why would I allow to have a dirty pebble like you to be my brother? Papa is mine, and I’m the shiniest of all in his pool of diamonds.” she thought and in her mischievous mind, she’s stuck out her tongue in front of the boy, but her fake smile remained, she apologized like a lady would and she continued her introduction.
~
"A pleasure to meet you Miss Milkha. Please tell me if there's something I may assist you with."
“At least there’s a gentle manner left in—hey!” her internal monologue stopped when Khoric faced the crowd instead of her. She pouted her lips, irritated by his actions and gazed lazily following Khori’s view towards the orphans at the distance. “What’s so special about these orphans anyway?” she swayed her glass in a circular motion, with a scene playing inside her head. She took her glass with her, walked in front the boy, tapped his shoulder, and with her sweetest smile and twinkling eyes looking directly at his, she splashed the juice on his pants.
But nah, Milkha dismissed her evil thoughts. At least she placed it at the corner of her mind for later, if something happens. So, repeating the scene and hitting play, and with the nice timing of the music, maybe she’ll listen to Pierre’s advice for once. She deserves to enjoy, or rather, she’ll force to have fun tonight by all means, and then she gulped down the remaining juice in her tall glass. “I’m tired of being a lady,” she said almost burped the last word and grabbed Khoric by the arm, pulled him towards the dance floor and placed the glass back to the tray as the waiter passed by.
“I’m tired, bored and annoyed, I demand you to dance with me.” She said as they walked, her smile was almost gone, “Oh I didn’t get your name, but not important. Show me your skills.” and she twirled in front of him in position, chin up and offered the back of her hand to Khoric. Her interpretation of enjoyment was rather off. She was getting impatient. “You know how to do this right? The dancing and the kissing on my hand part, in case you head is sleeping.” Then she smiled at him at the end of her sentence.
