K'en might not have noticed the small squabble between the other Weyrlings when it had first started, but it was impossible not to see what was going on once the Weyrleader rounded on the new greenrider, his booming voice drawing all attention to the scene and bringing about the silence of those gathered. While it may not have been explicitly stated, it was easy to guess which of the two only rules they had been given was broken. But why? Was the taste of wine really worth the life of one's dragon, accident or not? He couldn't help but worry greatly for the pair as they were banished off to the corner-- would they really be alright?

I do not believe that our sister will go Between, Stromath remarked privately to his, watching them depart in a respectful silence. However, the punishment to Hers is not unjust. Carelessness can be just as damaging as malicious intent, if not worse at times.

K'en gave a faint nod of agreement. It didn't stop him from worrying for them though.

"Yes. That's gotta be why you seem somewhat familiar to me. Of course, I spent most of my time wandering around and exploring." She grinned. "Y'know how it goes! Get a little bored, go check out this section of the Weyr." Dezima gave a small impish shrug. She'd gotten caught before skipping a lesson...or two, but not very often. She did like some of her lessons after all. At B'nen's wink, Dezima giggled.

Another giggle slipped out as Brynja told her story. She could almost picture it. It wasn't as if some of the more energetic weyrbrat's hadn't pulled pranks that were harmless like that. B'nen was the only twin - at least she thought - that she'd met though. Of course, spending most of your time exploring around the Weyr (where she was allowed to go at least) for amusement meant she probably missed quite a few things - like twins.

Microth flicked her tail, green body full of excited energy. Yes! Larth is a very amusing Barrack mate. She piped up. They hadn't had any issues...yet. But the green didn't think they would. She gave an amused snort to Gneisth. Ooooh I hope you and Stromath don't have any problems then. Althought it would be amusing to change something up from the way he likes having it done once or twice. Then again, that might make Stromath mad. This made the green reconsider her words. Perhaps that wasn't the best thing to say? Thinking this over, she was quiet while Gneisth continued.

The green had started to agree, but the voice of the Weyrleader kept her quiet. She leaned against her bonded and listened to what he had to say. Dezima smiled and rubbed Microth along the top of her head. Ah, yes. The speech that would have been made by Weyrwoman Kestril. Dezima tried not to let the sadness of that loss creep in and spoil the evening. So she focused on W'lin's words. No sex. No alcohol. Check and check. These rules didn't really surprise her. She'd heard them before from other riders and been taught about why such rules were in place. The weyrbrat nodded absently in silent agreement to these rules. Which wouldn't be too much of a problem anyways. Maybe a slight inconvenience drink wise. Oh well! She and Microth were probably going to be too busy for such things anyways.

Dezima glanced at Brynja. Did she and Larth want to head towards the tables as well? Looking back at B'nen, she nodded her head. "Microth wouldn't mind heading that way. So if you two don't mind, we'd definitely love to join you!" This was barely out of her mouth before Weyrleader W'lin bellowed. It startled her as well as Microth, who jumped slightly and leaned heavily against her rider for reassurance. What had happened? Someone had already broken the rules? They were so simple to follow! Her hand rested against her own dragon. How...how could someone break the rules already?

Dezimine? We should go to the food tables. Standing and staring while trying to make sense of something we can't understand will not do us any good. Microth nuzzled against her bonded and nudged Larth gently. We should take Ours to the tables with Gneisth and His.

Pyrth cried out towards her bothers and sisters as they seemingly already mourned for her, so many of them called out to her their hearts saddened and fear coursing through them. It wasn’t helping at all. Twisting her head the green looked back towards hers and crooned softly. P’ne knew what they all thought, what everything people in the whole Weyr was thinking. But it didn’t matter, the only thing that mattered was making sure that Pyrth didn’t between.

“Hey, look at me. Don’t look at them. You are mine, and I am yours and that is all that matters,” P’ne stated in a raspy voice, her words mirrored the reassurance that her beloved green had given her since the very start. Off-coloured fingers stroked the very tip of Pyrth’s snout affectionately. “I love you--- you know that, I didn’t mean to do this. I didn’t mean to hurt you--- you have to be okay Pyrth. You have to. I promise I will never be careless again and I will try my hardness to make things right. If the Weyrwoman was still alive she would send me to live at Malvern for this.” Shutting her eyes more tears rolled down her cheeks, in all of her life the rider, if she could call herself that, had never felt so ashamed or worthless. She had taken something so precious, so wonderful and had completely disregarded it with foolishness. The feeling of sorrow was so strong coursing through both of them that P’ne found herself sobbing, her hands were stained with wine, stained with the blood of her dragon. She would never be able to rise above this. Pyrth rumbled and buried her snout into the petite girl’s chest.

‘Persimine--- I don’t feel right---I feel funny.'

He slowly approached the table again. The happy mood for them seemed gone. F'law awkwardly cleared his throat, then realized he still held the cup he'd poured for P'ne. Ever so carefully he set it down on the table, and resumed his seat. He had tried to warn her. His eyes caught the whirling eyes of his blue. Do you think she'll be alright Zurith? If anyone could guess it would be him.

F'law turned to W'rick as he spoke. "We have to be responsible for ourselves and our dragons now. I didn't realize the young dragons were so vulnerable to wine." He felt remorse that P'ne had been put into that position.

Zurith watched the green pair leave then settled beside his. I do not believe Pyrth will leave us. His dark blue head gave a shake. It was, but needed. She broke the rule. It is not up to us Pectolath. It is up to Hers.

”Of course but, for Pyth’s sake, I wish there was something we could have done. She is so young like us and it is not right for P'ne to put Her's at risk.” A hint of red-orange bled into his eyes and he shook his head, growling his frustrations. P’ne could not hear him now but he wished she could. If only he spotted the danger sooner he would have done something to remind her of W’lin’s speech.

W’rick nodded in agreement, looking almost as irritated as his dragon. Now that he understood this bond – truly felt it – he could never wish that fate on his worst enemy. How could P’ne do this? Yes, he broke the rules from time to time, but with reason. For no reason would he jeopardize his bond with Pectolath. He glanced at F’law, studying his expression before going back to staring at his plate. After a long pause he sighed heavily and reached down to stroke Pectolath’s neck. His dragon’s growls softened as he turned his attention to W’rick with eyes slowly fading into yellow-green. In a calmer voice, he said to Zurith, ”I agree with you brother, but I would do anything to protect my clutchmates.”

“This is why I stayed in the smithy,” W’rick muttered to F’law. Privately, W’rick felt glad one of them was keeping his composure. Miners always have their feet on the ground.

Kindra's head snapped round at the sound of the chair scraping, her eyes following the Weyrleader's gaze she stared at Persephone, the seemingly weak girl, She had a DRINK?! Kindra couldn't believe it, was the girl's memory worse than a dragons? .. no a dragon would remember this far at least. Kindra was about to go over and give her a piece of her mind when the Weyrleader mentioned the possibility of the green going Between and she held back, the Wyrleader had already given her the punishment, so maybe it wouldn't be a good idea.

"Mine, do not be harsh, it appears she used to work with the winemakers and made a mistake, from the look of her, she has realised what her mistake might have cost her" reminded Suunath, trotting over to the green and murring a sympathetic greeting, knowing the green was confused, trying to help somehow.

Kindra on the other hand, grabbed a small plate full of food, "I appear to be the kitchen drudge the way i am handing food around today" she thought, grabbing a bowl of meat too and striding over to where the girl and her dragon stood "Here, she'll need food and you will to" she said upon reaching the girl "If she is concentrating on feeding she won't be thinking about other things, that was a very stupid thing to do" she snapped, but softened slightly at the panic and worry on the girl's face "If she was going to go, i'm sure she would have by now, try to be calm yourself, your worry will transmit to her you know" she said in a slightly gentler tone, holding out the plate and the bowl to her.

"Pyrth, try to calm down, you are worrying Yours, stay here with me and eat some of that meat Mine has in the bowl, it will make you feel better" comforted the Gold, she would worry about reprimand later, for now the most important thing appeared to be to keep the green calm and from getting too panicked.

Thin arms continued to cling protectively around Pyrth’s neck as the gold rider Kindra and Suunath approached. The green could hear the hushed sympathetic purr that her sister greeted her with but her senses were skew and she couldn’t quite tell whom it was that was addressing her.

Sunn---Sun---no that isn’t right--- Sunnnath is that you?’ Pyrth asked in a low pitched voice, at least she thought she was speaking softly. The actuality of it was she was booming loudly, unable to control her volume whatsoever and completely oblivious to the fact. P’ne winced just a bit as the girl in front of her spoke to her. She wanted to slap her, she wanted to tell her to leave her alone and to not judge her but she couldn’t even meet the other weyrling’s eyes.

Shame and disgust was written all over the pale brunette’s face, she didn’t have any right to be upset or defensive, Kindra was only trying to help. “feed, her. Yes. I will do that. It’ll help, I will try to calm myself gold rider,” P’ne mumbled, reaching out a visibly shaking hand the former vintner took the bowl and held out a morsel for her green to take. “Focus on me, Pyrth. Please. Just ignore everything and focus on me. I won’t let you go--- I refuse to let you go---” The plate of food that the gold weyrling brought was completely forgotten, it was apparent that P’ne was only concerned with the well being of hers. Sniffing at the cutlet of meat Pyrth obeyed her lifemate and gentle took the offered piece and chewed it carefully, minding her tongue which suddenly felt floppy.

‘Suunath, Mine didn’t mean to. I wish Yours wouldn’t speech to her harshly. Mine is very delicate. I will not go anywhere. I am needed here. Mine needs me, the weyr needs us. I will not go between. There is still too much to do, but it all feels so far away, I am scared sister Suunath. So scared and sad.’ Pyrth still felt odd, but she was confident that she would not be going anywhere anytime soon and yet the gloom that settled over her and the haze that she found her mind in was so very distressing

“I am so sorry Pyrth. I am so sorry--- I don’t deserve you--- you deserve so much better---” bright green eyes seemed to dull as yet again more tears rolled from her hues, turning her almost lifeless eyes towards Kindra for the first time the slender, shorthaired girl stared blankly towards her. “You shouldn’t have come over here, you will get in trouble. I don’t deserve any sort of kindness---” P’ne felt a mix of her own heartache and the fear and confusion that was bleeding over their mind link, the emotional concoction was almost too much to bare. “I didn’t mean to be so stupid….”

It had been a tiring day all around. Emotionally taxing, both with good and bad reasons, and though he didn't think he'd actually be able to sleep when he was given the opportunity -- too excited about his new partner and everything that meant -- C'mric was asleep almost the moment is head went horizontal. Not only did he sleep, he slept hard.

Which explained his late arrival and the fact that his hair was sticking up a little oddly at the back of his head. Also why one bottom edge on his tunic was longer than the other and why he was still fixing it when he finally made it to the feast. There was even a crease on his cheek that he'd been unable to completely rub away. Color high on those same cheeks, he ducked in, dark gaze sweeping over everyone in attendance.

Everyone ...upset. And not enjoying things quite as much as he expected. He hesitated in the doorway, deciding who he could--should--ask what had happened.

Orthoth, however, had no such hesitation. Unleashing a rumble that went from toe-vibrating to almost a whine, he sent, HELLO! MINE AND I ARE HERE! WE WERE VERY SLEEPY BUT WE ARE HERE! WHAT HAS HAPPENED? WHY IS PYRTH SO SAD?

Kindra sighed, she'd caught the tensing of the other girl and gritted her teeth against commenting, instead she listened to her talking to her Green "Look, calm yourself, it's got to be hard but the more worried and worked up you get, the more confused your dragon will be, staying calm is the best thing to do right now so you dont make her confusion worse" she said, pulling a stool over and putting the plate of food on it in case the girl got hungry, most of what she got wouldn't matter if it went cold "You should eat yourself too, when she's full" she added before moving off around the room, turning her back on the girl and her dragon, she'd done what she could, it was up to the pair now.

Suunath gave Pyrth a gentle nudge "I know Yours didn't mean to but she needs to be stronger, try and calm her and you might find yourself getting better too" commented Suunath, privately sighing a little "Don't be scared, we are here, there are others to help alright?" she added before following Kindra, her tail trailing comfortingly over Pyrth's foreleg.

Her head whipped round to Orthoth as he rumbled then yelled "ORTHOTH!" she boomed at him alone "Do you have to be so loud all the time?! Pyrth needs you to be more quiet right now, it appears Hers drank something that Ours were told not to and she needs quiet!!" she said to him only, no point in broadcasting to everyone, she nose bumped him before moving back towards the feeding tables, nudging Hers towards them "Eat Mine, i dont think you had much before Pyrth's was punished."

Viddle growing up with a Vinter as a mother had come to love wine. Her mother had even brought a special bottle to celebrate. They were about to open it and pour cups for the family, but stopped when the Weyrleader spoke. Viddle looked startled and almost dropped the bottle.

Viddle moved away from her family so she could hug Treeth, who crooned softly

Oh no. She knew Pyrth was a vinter, she had seen the purple stained hands. Seeing the worry in her daughters eyes Viddle's mother waved her on as the young woman stood and walked with Treeth towards Pyrth, P'ne and the others. The pair moved in next to the gold and said

"It'll be okay P'ne, mistakes happen. I was about to take a drink myself. You and Yours will be fine, and we will all learn from a mistake. It'll be okay."

Treeth Hummed encouragingly towards Pyrth, and both rider and dragonet did their best to radiate good feelings towards the other green pair.

Kindra was right, she needed to calm down. Suunath was right, she needed to calm down.. They both still felt a gambit of emotions toiling and flocculating through their joint being feeding each other in both positive and negative ways. Just as the gold rider stood and walked away Pyrth warbled out loudly when her sister’s tail left her presents, her snout instinctively pressed into the flat of her rider’s stomach seeking comfort, she felt so odd.

For a few moments neither P’ne nor Pyrth realized that another set of bonded ones had approached them. It wasn’t until Treeth hummed towards her sister green that the pair focused on Viddle and hers. A wine-stained hand reached over and took another piece of meat for her dragonet, hazy eyes gazed up towards the tall former glass-blower and stared into her mutely. The normal mirth and light in her green hues completely hidden behind worry and something darker---perhaps shame. “we will be fine, you shouldn’t talk to us right now, you’ll get in trouble. Please just let me be strong for mine, I need to be the one being strong. Go away.”

‘Persimine, that was rude. Treeth, thanks to you and yours but Mine needs me to herself right now. Thank you for your well wishes.’ Pyrth’s tone was somber, it was clear to tell that the slim green was not fully herself.

Viddle wanted to reach out to P'ne, wanted her to know that she cared for her fellow rider, that she wasn't going to just go away. Not now. Not with that dead look in her eyes. She shook her head firmly.

"I do not care if I get in trouble P'ne. I'm not going to leave you alone. I am glad you want to be strong for Pyrth, but you do not have to be alone while doing it."

The once glass blower sat next to P'ne while Treeth moved closer to Pyrth and linked their tails like Suunath had been and crooned softly to her sister.

The green bumped her snout against the underside of her sisters jaw in a cheer up sort of way and crooned more good feelings for the pair.

Viddle took a leaf from Treeths book and moved closer to P'ne so she could hug her. It was some what awkward because they were sitting side by side, but Viddle was sure that P'ne would understand her motive.
"You don't have to be alone P'ne, If you can't count on the rest to support you, then you can at least count on us."

Brynja was not planning on drinking any time soon (the closest she'd ever come to wine or anything stronger was a bottle of beer shared with both her brothers when she'd been officially made a crew member - she'd hated the bitter taste, and had spat it out after taking a mouthful, much to their amusement), and sex? Sex was confusing and right out of the picture, because ick ick ick (ick).

"Dawn -" Brynja had started to say, intending to comment on the weyrleader's speech to the others before everything went so horribly wrong. How could the girl - P'ne, she had heard someone else call her - have done that, just after they'd all been told not to? Shards, if she'd even thought about doing something like that her Da would've barred her from the boat 'til she'd learned better, and probably have given her a good hiding into the bargain... and that she'd put her dragon in danger, too, beyond even disobedience... oh, shards.

between> Larth said abruptly, watching the buzz around the hapless girl. He wasn't particularly impressed. If she'd wanted to draw attention to herself, there were so many better ways to do it then endangering herself and her dragon. Poor thing, maybe they should...? No, she had enough people fussing around her. He assented to Microth's idea instead, nudging her back affectionately.

Reassured a little, and putting a broad smile back on her face where worry and a little fear had so plainly shown a moment before. "Larth agrees. 'sides, I'm starving. I could eat a runner whole, or one of these huge fish my brother caught once, seriously, like six feet long"

B'tar who could... and did... drink wine as a adult rider who's bond had matured enough to allow it, raised his eyebrows slowly as the situation unfolded, and quietly put down his own cup... and pushed it aside slightly, his mood to celebrate forgotten, though mostly it probably made the deceptively boyish green rider look (mistakenly) like someone else with their hand caught on the stem of an illicit wine cup.

Where did we get these candidates from? Primath demanded, hotly, itching to get her two marks in, which made B'tar rather glad that she had other places to be rather than looming over and snarling at young, traumatized dragons.

Cot hold maybe? He supplied, somewhat uncharitably. the idea that the newly impressed could not consume alchohol was part of basic candidate training, as was the prohibition against sex, which was why relations between candidates was, at lightest, usually highly frowned upon, weather or not the young and the proud understood this or not. Evidently, some of them either hadn't been listening, (he was surprised the Weyrlingmaster hadn't caught it, but perhaps they were just very very good at looking keen eyed and attentive while their mind was elsewhere...) or perhaps they just thought that they, for whatever reason, were above the rules. It wouldn't be the first time, and it wouldn't be the last, and he was distinctly glad that this round of assumptive arrogance hadn't cost someone their life or their bond, but then the bonded pairs were still young, and they had time to make even more glorious mistakes when they were trained to fly.

Probably cot holds. Primath agreed, her mental voice as red tinged as her eyes probably were. Her short memory ensured that she didn't remember that her own rider had come from such a location, only that he held them in great disdain.

"Well. Exciting start to the feast." he commented, with forced cheer, to whoever happened to be listening, rocking on his heels and fixing a slightly strained smile on his face, as though it was his responsibility to calm the ruffled emotions that now seemed to rule the feast. "Now that we've gotten the trouble out of the way, perhaps we can fully celebrate this particularly exciting clutch."

Twin Golds, impressive. He couldn't remember offhand having ever heard of such a thing, even if there were probably those who were disappointed that it was not, after all, one enormous gold. With the loss of their Weyr Woman, two was arguably better than just one... though he imagined the two girls would spend quite some time being watched like hawks, in case of further danger.
