As Nemmol and his new bronze left the sands - Roscoe reminded himself to get the dragons names when he got the chance - his attention was brought back to the eggs as one started to crack, a brown head popped up to chirp a hello and then disappeared again, it looked like a brown was going to be the next to hatch which wasn't bad - so far this clutch was turning out pretty well...and was now even better as a second bronze made an appearance. Sedately walking over towards them along with the brown who had managed to extract itself from it's shell.

It seemed that the striped bronze had been able to find His as well. Certainly a good thing-- he hardly wished to see any of the dragonets preceding their mother in going Between this Hatching. Kanen's eyes turned back toward the eggs as one of them began to crack and wriggle. Ah, a brown? Very nice. Certainly friendly seeming. Before the brown could even finish hatching another bronze broke free of his shell both quickly and smoothly. Wow, he was quite a handsome one, wasn't he. His was certainly going to be lucky. Soon enough both the brown and the bronze were were coming over towards the rank of male Candidates. Whom would these two chose?

Bannen was excited to see the Inner Glow's brown head make an appearance, chuckling lightly at the manner of 'hello'. He was glad to see the brown hadn't lost his sense of humor from what he'd felt at the Touching, and whomever he chose was likely going to find an instant pick-me-up to combat the current downhearted mood. The candidate found himself slightly less enthused about the Ancient Strength's appearance, even if he was bronze. A very handsome bronze. A bronze that was likely stern and stodgy and almost certainly not for Bannen.

Still, he did seem to tolerate his more cheerful brother's antics (better than the first bronze had, at any rate), so there was that to be said in favor of him. The brown was enjoying his freedom from the shell, it seemed, dancing off towards the line of male candidates with his bronze brother following behind.

She didn't see her friend until Brynja was moving to meet her new bondmate. And Dezima couldn't help the small noise of excitement that escaped her. Ooooh congrats you! Brynja had Impressed that blue! Oh Faranth! She was so happy for her friend and definitely couldn't wait to see her later on and meet her new dragonet! He was quite large, but then, the entire clutch seemed to be large. Dezima couldn't say she was surprised at the blues size because of this.

As she watched her friend and the bronze as he also Impressed, the golden egg began to wriggle as well as another egg. However the gold didn't seem to crack just yet. The other egg though....it split open to reveal, another bronze?! Oh shards and shells! Clearly that was a good omen for them? Two bronzes at the beginning of a hatching?! Dezima felt more excitement flow through her as she watched to see what the rest of the eggs would reveal and who their new werylings would be.

Two bronzes, one brown and one blue. Benden would grow stronger with this clutch, but Winderick knew these two brothers would Impress someone else. The dragonets seemed excited to be free from their shells. Surely they must have sensed their mother's distress - every dragon in Benden felt it the night Kestril died - but the hatchlings seemed unaffected. Maybe it was just the way their minds worked. Instead of focusing on the hatchlings, Winderick looked around at the other boys, trying to guess which one of them would Impress.

Persephone held her breath as shells from not one, but two eggs cracked and fell away. Another handsome bronze and a very chipper brown. She couldn’t help herself, she wanted to coo at the darling creatures, she wanted them to notice her. But--- they both were set on the boys. She was sort of like a boy, she found girls attractive, wasn’t that good enough to be considered one of the men? Apparently not. Toying and fumbling with her hands and digging her toes into the blistering hot sand the slight framed wine-maker twisted from side to side and cantered her head at the newly hatched duo and offered a smile.

Even if she didn’t Impress, she was still young, and she would have plenty of other chances to Stand. Plenty of other opportunities to found her life mate, and certainly plenty of time to give her mother the cold shoulder for having another child without asking her first! Shaking her head rapidly to dissipate the thoughts that had plunged into her mind Persephone went back to rocking back and forth on the balls and heels of her feet as she nibbled on the bottom lip waiting to see what would happen next.

Another pair of strong, healthy, and big dragonets. Cormeric wasn't ashamed to be pleased to see them. While dragons did what dragons would do, and the dragon that chose him -- if any did -- might be a tiny green as a sort of joke on him, his thoughts and his hopes ranged more toward the big boys. He could picture himself on the broad neck of a big dragon and not worry about the training days when a green might struggle to get not only herself, but her heavy weyrling off the ground.

He ducked his head to hide the grin that came as a result of his wandering thoughts, cleared his throat as he glanced around at his fellow candidates, then returned his attention to the newly hatched pair, watching them with that unvoiced laughter in his eyes to see where they would go.

Falawny noticed Roscoe standing nearby and gave him a slight nod. He wished the boy luck on finding a dragon. His attention was drawn back to the clutch as a brown head popped out. So nice of him to say hi. It was another bronze that hatched followed by the friendly brown. He shifted from foot to foot on the hot sands, waiting for them to make their way over to the candidate.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emkin smiled as the two lovely dragons made their way off the sands with their riders. She looked at the other candidates waiting. Everyone was reacting in their own way. Popping of shells drew her attention, two more dragons stepped onto the sands looking to find theirs. A bronze and a brown. More handsome beasts. Quietly she waited to see what they'd do.
As long as the hatchlings weren't aggressive or especially clumsy, or any other things that might lead to injury, Lilah really didn't care what color they were...even if they were things like bronzes and browns, who wouldn't want a girl (except for the very odd brown out, and even then, she wasn't their type of girl). She wasn't one of those Candidates who held their breath, crossed their fingers, and secretly hoped that every dragon that hatched might come for them. Oh, sure, she wanted it to happen, or else she wouldn't be here at all, but she knew the odds were way out of her favor.
Getting her hopes up would be ridiculous. She just stood and watched, arms crossed and expression neutral, and every now and then shifted her weight from one foot to the other. Sharding hot sand.
Right then! Time to go! Grinning as well as a dragon ever could the brown bounded towards the boys, and skidded to a halt before the front rank in a shower of sand. Sweeping them all with friendly eyes once or twice he then glanced over his shoulder, seemingly waiting for his more sedate bronze brother before he chose his rider. As their eyes met, the bronze gave a low hum and bowed his head slightly, coming to a halt for a moment. The brown trilled in question at his pause, but the sound dipped to an unhappy whine as the steady bronze turned to look up at their mother. Something was wrong and they both understood that implicitly. While the brown gave a chrip and a trill perhaps trying to lighten the moment the bronze bowed deeply to the grieving queen and half crazed though she was, Yirath hummed softly and nodded her head in an echo of the wise young one's gesture. Yes. Go. It was their time now.
Nodding once more the bronze walked on towards the boys, reaching out for the mind of his rider before he even arrived.
As the bronze found his rider with ease the brown chirred briefly to his mother before turning back to the candidates and gave a happier cry. As his eyes alighted on one boy in particular his voice lifted in true joy, and he rushed forward.
The cracking sound had only been more male dragons Hatching, and none low enough in color to warrant giving him a look. This was not helping Jordan's beliefs about this Clutch be put in their proper place. Still, it was like a puzzle, and Jordan was known back in his home Hold for being irritatingly persistent about solving puzzles. His guesses had had a high ratio of males for the betting, too, so with any luck he was at least going to make some money off of the mystweed's effectiveness.
One, two, gone in a fell swoop. He watched the Brown and Bronze Impress to a pair of identical boys. Not surprising. He'd never met brothers who were exactly the same, and he had to imagine these two tried hard to be different, since being identical twins meant everyone would mistake them for each other. They'd both Impressed high colors, too, which was an oddity.
His eyes flicked back to the Clutch, his face suddenly more calculating. He hoped this Clutch wasn't really all Browns and Bronzes. He only had a few Hatchings to go before he aged out. That would be a problem for him.
So far, so good! Though there hadn't been any especially angry eggs at the Touching, Lilah had actually expected this Hatching to go poorly, considering the circumstances around it. Four Impressions in, she was wrong, but with thirteen more to go, there was still plenty of time for things to go south. She wasn't entirely confident in the sense of her fellow Candidates - sooner or later, she suspected, someone would do something stupid and offend the Queen.
...and that could be much, much worse than a confused dragonet.
It was an awesome sight. The dragons hatching and crossing the sand to pick from among the waiting candidates. He admired the lovely pattern on the dragons. Much like the stones he'd pulled from the bowls of the earth. He gave a slight smile at the similie. It touched him how the pair looked to their mother. They seemed to know and care. With their impression, it was up to more eggs to hatch. His eyes darted among the eggs to see which one might be next.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The girls appeared to be on the side lines for the most part. Emkin stood on tip toes to watch the impression of the brown and bronze. There were no dragons left unpaired on the sands. So who would hatch next?
PostPosted: Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:35 pm

And just as the two dragons had hatched together it seemed as thought they would also impress together and to brothers at that, it was fitting if unusual and Roscoe found himself wishing them both well even as his attention returned to the remaining eggs.

So far so good. Winderick wondered which egg would hatch next. Hopefully he would find some more blues and greens mixed in, otherwise he could be stuck waiting for his next hatching. However, he wasn't too worried about his future at Benden. Thread was coming and the demand for blacksmiths would be huge. Even if he never Impressed he could still be useful. That didn't stop him from feeling apprehensive. Sure, he would always have a place here, but he knew where he wanted to be.
