"For what?" he asked, confused , looking over at her, to see her looking at her paws. What had they done that was so terrible that Furii felt the need to apologize for it? Kalevi couldn't imagine.

But then, he had killed others, had come from a tribe where that was a way of life. Something that seemed ordinary to him might not be to her?

Maybe.

"For..." Furii looked up to meet his eyes, then answered his question as best she could. "For us...spending the night together? I didn't...I thought you might..." she trailed off again, focusing on the Solarie tatoo on his shoulder. It was so close, and his fur was so soft...

"I thought you might be upset..." she explained quietly.

There, in the grove of trees that they had somehow woken up in, far enough from the tribe that they weren't visible but could still hear the babbling oasis, Furii realized something.

No matter what had happened, she wasn't sorry at all.

He just nodded. He wasn't sure what he thought about them spending the night together. It wasn't something he had planned on doing ever (obviously), but he wasn't sure if he minded this one time, either.

There was one thought that came to mind, though: "Was this what you meant when you said you wanted us to be closer friends?" He watched her--scrutinized her--for her reaction.

Furii looked up at him and was almost surprised by the intensity in his face, in his eyes.

"Yes and no," she answered thruthfully, keeping his gaze. "Not...in so many words. I wasn't planning this." She took a deep breath, and from there it all just kind of poured out.

"But I did want to be closer to you--there's something so...so perplexing and fascinating and every little thing I got to know about you lately just made me want to know more about you, Kalevi. But...I definintely wasn't...trying to get you to..." Furii took a deep breath to steady herself.

"Are you alright with...this? Whatever this...is? Or is this just...an oops that should be forgotten very quickly?"

Kalevi sighed, frowned, then glanced away from her as he thought. He was glad to hear that she hadn't planned this, that it hadn't exactly been what she wanted.

Did that mean he was alright with it?

With the one time...he hadn't planned on it either, but it had happened, and he had no regrets over it.

He wanted to tell her that she was the perplexing one, that he didn't understand why she stuck around, why she cared. But that would only distract the conversation from the main issue.

"I'm alright with what happened," he said, finally turning his head back to face her again. "But I don't want it to happen again." He tried to say it gently, wondering if it would hurt her. He didn't want to hurt her.

"...Oh." Furii felt her stomach drop out, but she felt herself nod. Figures. "Alright." It wasn't alright, but she had never forced herself on him--at least, not in any serious way, and he hadn't seemed to mind...

But he said never again, and that was what she needed to focus on.

She didn't say anything for a long time, but when she did her voice was rather quiet. "Are we still going..." she shook her head and tried again. "Can we still be...friends? Or whatever we were? I wish..." she sighed, shook her head. "No, I don't wish it hadn't happened. I wish I remembered it, since it'll never happen again." A short chuckle escaped her lips, but there was no emotion in it, and her eyes were away from his face again, looking at her paws.

Kalevi was surpsied to hear that--that she wished she remembered it, that she seemed to want it to happen again.

He didn't understand the appeal: he didn't think himself 'perplexing' or 'fascinating' or anything of the sort. He had admitted to her (the first, and so far only, member of his new tribe to know) that he had killed other foxes.

And yet she was still there.

He didn't think he'd ever understand her, no matter how long or hard he tried.

"We can still be...whatever we were before," he promised. 'Friends' wasn't right. 'Friends' was too normal a word for them.

"What do you want for breakfast?" he asked, trying to change the subject (and perhaps hoping he could somehow distract her from the hurt she was indeed feeling).

Furii smiled a little bit when he spoke, assuring her that things would be the same--now, she wasn't sure which would be worse: having things the same or having things nothing at all.

His next question did indeed serve as a distraction, for which she was grateful, somewhere in the back of her mind.

"Whatever you want," she said, shrugging one shoulder. She wasn't particularly hungry yet, but she figured they could both use a little bit of space between them.

He nodded, and left, to go scout the desert for something to eat.

It did bother him, on some level, that Furii wanted more from him than he was willing or able to give. In an ideal world, their expectations would match up.

But in an ideal world, Elemuntum would never have existed, he would never have grown up a killer, and...the list went on.

He thought he could work with what they had, so long as Furii could too.

And if she couldn't...?

He didn't know.

Furrii watched him leave, and when he was far enough away she stood, walked a few feet away and began passionately tearing up a shrub until not even the roots were left.

She felt better.

Her head was clearer, and her paw and leg didn't hurt. What happened the night before didn't even matter, and she could go back to being friends--or whatever they were--again. She had to be.

Besides. She doubted that one drug-induced night could've made him any less mysterious and fascinating, so there was always hope.

It was with this thought that she returned to their spot after a quick drink and began to clean her paws, waiting for him to return.

He saw the destroyed bush when he came back, but waited for her to explain it--or not, as she wanted--he wasn't going to raise the issue.

He laid a dead jackrabbit down by her feet. He had already eaten his own while he was gone: mostly to kill time, so she would have enough time to herself.
((Sucks, sorry XD ))

"Thank you," she said, offering the faintest hint of a smile. "Aren't you hungry?" she asked, tilting her head at him.

She lay down with the rabbit between her front paws and delicatly but forcefully pulled the fur from bone and bone from muscle, then fed on the meat, content with the silence.

After she was done, she sat back up and looked at him, studying him again.

"What should we do today?" she asked. Just pretend it never happened.

"I already ate," he said simply.

He laid down near to, but right next to Furii, contented to wait while she ate. He spoke again once she finished.

"What did you have in mind?" he countered. "Nothing as exciting as yesterday, I hope," he joked, referring to the coyote, but realizing once the words had left his mouth, it could be taken as meaning last night as well...

Furii blinked--that was the second time in as many days that he had joked, and it threw her off guard.

"Mm. No. Not anything as exciting." she answered, shaking her head. "We could explore. You could show me your job."
