Thomas Barkhelm Dear Student,
You have been accepted into the first semester of Thomas Barkhelm's Magic class. You are to read the rules of the classroom, come prepared, and for no reason whatsoever are you to hold up the other students in their lesson plans. If there is a problem with attending, contact the teacher for private tutoring to make up for lost time.
The first class begins September 13, 2006 in this classroom. We expect one post per student within one day of the teacher's last post at the very least.
We hope this semester will be informative. Best of luck.

Homework, it wasn't as if it were a completely new concept to him as he had the number and letter work from when he was little. This reminded him more of the little sheets he got to fill out now and again from D-corp. He fetch himself a pen from his father's desk and set to filling out the sheet. Name, weapon type, the name of the class... hrm a sketch of the stance that was different, and... gender. He tilted his head to the side as he noticed that the 'gender' section seemed to be thrown in as an afterthought. He gave a shrug and filled in the parts with the words first as that was the easiest part, then moved onto the stance drawing. Let's see, he couldn't draw himself with his hands to close to the middle of the weapon, he'd gotten a good crack to the fingers for that, meet an attack at an angle so as not to crack the pole, hrm... his pen moved over the paper quickly and he smiled. It didn't look that bad he decided as he finished up by adding his wings into the picture. He starred at it for a long while, something was missing... He hurried fetched a couple other pens of other colors to fill in the colors on his clothing. There we go, much better. Now... to go and find himself a pratice pole for when at home.

Wooden Poles and Odd FeetsJournal You know the more that I look at them I wonder if my feet can be used for more then just walking on. I mean they bend more then a normal person's foot would, they aren't even all that normal. In fact they look to be more like bird feet then people feet... yes I was studying my feet as compared to my father's feet when he was sleeping on the couch, why? Anyways... my feet are weird. You know I don't even have as many toes as he does. He has five toes, four small ones and a big one. I have three toes on the front that have talons on them and one in the back. I think that if I took off my sandles and socks I could pick things up with them! I should try that... Ligeia set his pencil down, drawing one of his feet up to him and undid the straps on his sandle, pulled it off, then did the same with his sock, normal kind this time aside from the front being cut off to make way for his taloned toes. The one of the back he never thought about cutting a hole for, maybe he should as it had started to cut a hole of its own in the heel of the sock... Oops. He looked his foot over, moving it a moment before giving a nod. He reached out with it and closed it over the closest thing to him, a pillow that had fallen from the sofa and was left unnoticed by the sleeping Orpheus. He lifted it up, tossed it up into the air, then caught it again... he couldn't help but giggle. Yup... he could pick up and catch things with the weird feet of his! Journal These feet are far to cool! I love them! Though what am I supposed to do with them? Hrmm... I wonder if I could carry by wooden pole in them? Imagine that? To be able to soar in the sky with my pole securely in my feet with my hands free for whatever I need them for, maybe for casting? I have started to collect some books and read in a couple that hand gestures are used by some casters when doing spell.s That would be so convient wouldn't it? I should look into this more. Then again I also have to get my father in gear. He said that he would bring me to get a wooden pole to practice with at home. I want to get in some training on my own before I head back into class, I doubt that the teacher would be very pleased to know that I didn't get anything but my homework done... what a pain... Once he gets up from his nap that will be the first thing that I do! Make him bring me to the store. Ligeia's dark eyes went to his father, watching the man snooze and snore. It was a loud sound much like a chainsaw would make coming from him, it was almost impressive how well the sound resonated. He hopped up to his feet, slightly off balance by the fact that one foot was shoed and the other one wasn't and hopped up, fluttered, and landed on the back of the couch, "Dad. Dad. Dad. Dad..." Nothing, "Its time to wake up. Daddy? Dad! Come on!" He reached down to poke at him with a gloved hand and the red head only grummbled, reaching out to catch hold of his son wrist and tugged. There was a flutter of wings and then a 'umph' as he laned on his father's chest. Luckily for Orpheus though the boy was very light weight and the guy didn't even seem affected by Ligeia falling onto him. "Oh... come on! You should get up and take me to the store. Store, store!" He said, excitedly, sitting up some to look down at his father. The man grunted and rolled over, Ligeia gave a scree as he ended up on his back on the floor in front of the couch which Orpheus slept on. He pushed to sitting up once more, fluttered his wings to make sure that everything was still in working order before he gave a groan, "Ok, ok I get it. Maybe I will ask Miss Emer to bring me shopping." Orpheus grunted, Emer shopping with Ligeia... shopping... Emer... and Ligeia... who knew what sort of dresses or other crazy clothing that women with a vinyl fetish would buy for his son... couldn't let... He sat up suddenly, looking around as if he expected the house to be on fire. Or worse his son done up as if he'd visited the women's section in Hot Topic... upon seeing him sittig there next to the couch with his journal he laid back down, sighing in relief, "Did you need something?" "To go shopping, I need a wooden pole to practice with for my Melee classes." He said to his father. Orpheus gave a nod of his head, "Alright, give me a moment to wake up and we will get going." He said, stretching out.

Studying & Homework
So he had gone out to the library so that he could get in some studying, so that he could figure out which spell he wanted to write about for his homework for Raven's class and he found there to be more then he had expected to figure out, a lot to go digging through so he had a ton of book laying out in front of him and he was quickly sketching down notes in his book. There was one book, of Chinese origin that laid the elements out as Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth and each of the elements had a various listing of things that each element was tied too he rather liked the explanations and found himself getting drawn into them. Then there were was the explanation of what were the four basic elements which were Earth, Fire, Air and Water which was much more basic though they also had essences that went along with them. Expanding out a little farther was the Astrological Signs of which each tied into an element, a planet, a house, and a mode that it was also tied in too. He gave a little sighing sound as he started to chew on his pencil. There was another set of elements from a smaller, sketchy source as well that had them as: Earth, Wind, Water, Earth, Wood, Shadow, Light, and Luna. After a lot of copying down of notes he decided to decide upon what he wanted to do with his Birth sign, which was Saggitarius.
He gave a sound of surprise as he ran his finger over his notes and found out his element, "Fire?" A snowy owl who was partnered with a Frost Dragon that was aligned with fire he thought to himself then gave a little shrug as he turned the page of his notebook. Actually that was a good thing, it wasn't predictable in fact it was something that may throw people. So Saggitarius and Fire which aligned with the mode of Mutable, a the Planet of Jupiter and the ninth house... he sketched all of that down then drug over the Chinese book and the one that spoke of essences first to write down what he needed from there...
The essences that tied into fire were 'Dry' when mixed with Earth and 'Hot' when mixed with air two simple enough concepts that would help him to gather ideas. Then to the other book and the list went as: Direction of South, Season of Summer, Color Red, Sense of Taste Bitter, Sensory Organ Tongue, Emotion Happy, Human Sound Laugh, Event Growth, Condition Hot, Smell of Burning, Then Yin Organ of Heart at 11-1pm, Yang Organ or Small Intestine at 1-3pm, Tissue of Blood Vessels, and the word Hur. He lifted a hand to rub at his eyes, so much information... Lest see then the final thing fire tying into the elemental creature of a Salamander or an Ifrit.
Ok, not with all of this information he turned back to what he had from his teachers, three elements from each of them. From Thomas there was Body, Mind, and Spirit of which he had been choosen as being under the 'Spirit' Catergory and reading over the three sorts that Raven had spoken of he found himself interested in the element of Procedure. He wanted to write about the summoning of calling one of those little Fire Spirits that the one book had spoken of. Though he wondered if that was something that would she would see as far above him, no doubt it was but he wanted to reach for things that were out of reach, wanted to grow powerful and be a great mage! He closed the books that he had so far and set them aside before he then moved to try to find the next one that he needed, one that spoke of fire spirits.
In the first volume it said that it was a powerful creature that was said to be a bit of a micheivious creature though useful as without it fire couldn't exsist. And... they could be called? He tilted his head to the side as he chewed on his lip... yes. Now, to learn how one would call for a Salamder of Fire, even if he didn't do it it would still be a really interesting paper to write up for the teacher.
After a while of searching he found a list of incense, arranged by color. He went to red which was tied into fire and ran his finger down the list finding Rose, with rose was a receipe called: Hot Rose which was made from Roses and Cinnamon. A scent that would be ideal when calling for a Salmander, to light it for the creature and then call for it. A lure basically, then to have the remaining cinnamon as an offering to the little creature for having come all the way to him. He gave a little smile as he set to work on his paper, putting down all of the details that went into the paper he was writing.
Of course as he got to the end of it, finished up and signed his named to the bottom he wanted so much to try this spell. Not a good idea as it said that they could be troublesome he bit his lip to resist. Then set to work taking all of the books that he had gotten out, a massive stack of them too, and set them up where they belonged.

OrpheusThoughts I just... I don't understand what happened and its starting to grat on me, one moment everything was fine, everyone was enjoying the holiday and then the next... You know I was so caught up with making sure my two boy's were behaving that I didn't even notice that Alan left from passing out the bags to kids. Then the next thing I know I am hearing that he was... I can't even write it. Alan offered me a job, something that got me out of the slump I had been in, let me have two wonderful children and now... Aside from Emer I really haven't made a lot of friends. Alan I counted as one for all he had done for me and now hes gone and I was never able to properly thank him. I am pretty sure he saved me from a life of perpetual boredom that would have led to my demise. This place, D-corp never allows for a moment of dullness, there is always something going on be it a battle between my sons or a class that has turned into a misadventure. Now that he's gone I wonder what is going to happen, he was the boss of the place after all. So many teachers, parents, children that were all brought together by his hands. Maybe he didn't use the best of motivation to bring us together but really I didn't much care. You can't really blackmail someone and force them to do it when they were all for it after all. I am for the most part a calm person, I'm not one for anger as its a useless emotion but currently that is what I feel. I'd like to find the person or people that killed Alan and return the favor in kind... Orpheus gave a groan as he tossed the pen down on the desk and closed the notebook that he was writing it with a slam. Writing wasn't really help was it? Was just making him that much more ticked off really. He leaned back in his seat, putting his feet up on the desk. Maybe he should see what the other teachers that had been present that night thought? The first one he thought to go to would be Kat, she'd been with Alan before he left maybe she knew more then he did? He would have to see about talking with her. The redhead pushed up to his feet and headed out of the mainroom that he was staying in to go to look in on each of his kids, Ligeia was curled up in his hammock with a wing sheilding him as he slept. Underneath of him was Vorel who stirred and lifted his head to look over as the door opened allowing in the light of the hall and some warmth, "Shhh. Go back to sleep Vorel." He murmured and the dragon listened as he didn't mind Orpheus or worry over him peeking in, it meant he was being a good human. He gave a croon before laying his head back down, tail wagging a little. Orpheus then crossed the hall to open the other door. Ter was sprawled out over the mat that he used for a bed. It was covered in an electric blanket as the boy was fond of the heat and the cooling weather was starting to annoy him. And Baroness was... Where was she? There was a hiss and the dragon lunged at him... until she saw who it was and skidded to a halt best that she could before running into his legs. She looked almost embaressed as she looked up at him and gave a sort of half hiss, half cough, "Its alright, go back to guarding Ter. Good girl." He murmured, scratching her under the chin in a way that almost had her purring. ALMOST! As she was NOT a nice dragon damn it! She caught herself before she nuzzled against his hand and scrammbled back to take up her position as guard at the sleeping snake's side. While she didn't understand what had happened while they were away at the party all she knew was that SOMETHING had and everyone had come home rather tense. She meant to protect her snake from whatever had happened. They were both alright and sleeping well he decided before going to lay down on the couch, clicking on the TV though he wasn't watching it. He was going over the party in his mind again trying to figure out what he'd missed.

Class One: Part One
Unable to catch up with the two official teachers of the D-corp facility for classes and having Ligeia bouncing around him constantly asking him about moving forward in his Staff lessons promoted Orpheus to find an outside means of getting the owl child taught. It had taken a bit of time to find someone that he felt was competant, "Come on Ligeia! If we don't hurry your going to be late." He called over to the owl child who was lagging behind a little bit but only because he kept getting distacted by the things on the walls of the building they were walking through. Advertisements for random classes that were to be held in the build, martial arts of different sorts. He reached up to take a copy of one of them down and then hurried after his father, staff in hand.
"Daddy! Can I take this class too?" He asked holding out the paper to his father, a hopeful look on his face.
The redhead took it, read it over then nodded, "I don't see why not. For now though it would be best for us to have you make it through this one first. Once you survive this class we will see about your next one." He folded up the paper and tucked it into his pocket, self defense classes too? He figured that it could be good for the boy, especially with the fact that he was running around in girls clothing, best that he could defend himself if he were to run into someone that didn't find the idea to be something they liked. Look at him now, a blue colored tunic designed shirt with a flower on it, some form fitting pants, and a pair of clogs. He was rather cute, would have made a very cute girl which was why maybe all these battle classes were good.
He reached over to ruffle Ligeia's hair, "Do your best with all of this but be careful too, ok?"
Ligeia looked up at him with those dark eyes, looking a little rather confused about where that had come from before he nodded his head, "Yes, I will do my best. Are you going to stay and watch the class?" He asked, curiously.
He gave a shake of his head, "I told Ter that I would take him out to look for a weapon too, he's jealous over the fact that you got a staff." He explained to him, Ligeia had gotten a staff so that mean that Ter wanted something that could be seen, at least to the snake, as better. Orpheus almost feared what that could be...
The owl nodded his head, "Alright, I will see you when you come back then." He said, looking in the door to where the teacher was waiting for him along with a couple of other students. He took a deep breath before stepping inside the room, hurrying over to the others giving a greeting. Orpheus watched them closely before he smiled and headed out of the building to set back to his other son and their errands.
The teacher was a lovely blonde haired woman with a soft demeanor and a air about her that made Ligeia rather relaxed about this class. She was the exact opposite of his last teacher though he did like Cerlyn, she had been a good teacher and it was a bit of a shame that he was unable to catch up with her again for more classes. He knew though that the teachers were busy just look at his own father after all.
"Alright, out last member is here so we can get started." She said, taking up a notebook and read it over, "Alright... Mr. Solon is it?" She looked him over for a moment, studying him carefully and then gave a smile, "Yes, if you would take off your shoes."
He seemed to miss the fact that she had been studying him to see if he really were a boy before he took off his shoes and left them over with the others left by the other kids, "Ligeia, Mr. Solon is what people call my Dad." He said, walking over to them, holding his staff tightly, feeling shy around these new people. They weren't like he was they were... normal looking. They seemed to be starring at him quite openly too. Gaia was filled with a lot off races but it didn't mean that the humans got used to it completely and totally.
"Ligeia then, these are Lena and Jonas and they will be learning along with you. You can call me Miss Lilika." She said, walking over to pick up a practice staff of her own, "I am impressed to see that you brought your own staff, have you done any classes before?"
Ligeia nodded, "One with my teacher back home." He said, "A defensive class."
She gave a smile, "Good, so you know the basics. Thats very good then we won't have to show you them. We will partner up and go through some basic attacks how does that sound?"
"I wanna be partners with Ligeia!" Lena pipped up, this seemed only to tick off Jonas as he was used to being able to be partners with Lena before the new kid had shown up. So while the little redhead bounced over to get her staff Jonas gave Ligeia and open and hostile look before going to get his own. The owl gave a gulp and then looked away, scratching the back of his head.
"He likes her." Miss Lilika murmured to Ligeia, "So long as you don't try to steal her away I am sure that you will be fine."
He nodded then looked over at Lena and Jonas as they came back over, "I was... thinking I would pair with Miss Lilika, until I am better with my staff." He said, quickly and a little worried.
Jonas brightened his grim demeanor and Lena pouted a little, "B-But I wanna be paired with the pretty owl!" She complained even as she moved over to position, taking staff in hand with Jonas across from her.
"Alright, first then we will practice just a normal strike." Lilika said, making a motion with the staff towards Ligeia. The owl, who still remembered the rules learned in his class with Cerlyn automatically lifted his weapon to defend against the strike. The teacher blinked, surprised at the response and how smooth it was before smile, "Ahh, very good Ligeia. Now do the same back and I will deflect it."
Ligeia nodded, lifting his staff and after a moment's hesitation did as he was told even if it were a little slower and less confident then his block. He didn't much like the idea of attacking, of hurting someone but he did it and Lilika blocked it, "Not back but you will need real strength behind it, like you mean it." She looked over to Lena and Jonas, "You two try it?" There were some loud cracks as they took turns attacking one another.
Ligeia watched them, wide eyed, "Wow..." He breathed, looking over at the teacher, "They are good."
She nodded, "You can be too, come on. Try again?"
Ligeia nodded his head, "Yes, of course. Will try until I get it right." He told her, wanting to be as good as Lena and Jonas, if he could be that good then he wouldn't have to worry about Ter and whatever weapon it was that the snake was going to get today.

Class One: Part Two"Alright, now that we have been shown the basic attack, from above, a thrust, and a wide arc how about we swap partners and try them out again another person? This way we can get a feel for another person's fighting style. Relying on just one person and their style won't help you, you need to expand your knowlage." Lilika said, stepping back, resting against her staff, looking over her three students. "I wanna..." Lena started but instantly Jonas quieted her and surprised both Ligeia and Lilika as he lunged forward towards the owl child, staff coming down towards his head in a sudden attack. A scree of shock escaped from Ligeia and a backflap of his wings was all that kept him from being thumped with Jonas' weapon. He then swung his own up into his hands able to block the next attack. He looked over at Miss Lilika, almost expecting for her to stop Jonas and his attack but she was just standing there, waiting and watching. She wasn't going to stop him, this it would seem was something that either she was expecting or she was wanting to know how it would go. Ligeia gave a gasp, "What the..." What was this kid's problem? He rather reminded Ligeia of Terpsichore when he thought on it, fighting him and striving to be better then him over the silliest reasons. He defended against a couple of more attacks, hard and fast but not really thought out now that he was watching more closely. Jonas was so set on hurting him that he was leaving himself open for all sort of counters. Ligeia felt something though, that same hesitation that he always felt when it came to retaliation. He didn't want to hurt Jonas, he didn't want the human child to hate him because he thought that Lena liked Ligeia or something... He gave a groan as the next couple attacks met his defensive stance causing those awful tremors to go through his staff and into his arms. Ick... his gloves were nearly thick enough to ward them off. He'd not expected this sort of match so he didn't wear the ones that his other teacher suggested he get. "Come on Birdy, fight back." Jonas hissed at him, swung the staff around, aiming for Ligeia's head, "Little wimp!" Ligeia gave a gasp, just barely ducking in time, so close a call that he felt the other's staff swish through his hair, and he thrust his staff forward, under his defenses and it met with the boy's chest sending him staggering back. Ligeia grabbed Jonas' staff as he went falling back to yank it away from him, then threw both his and the other one aside to hurry over to the boy, "Are you ok? I'm sorry... I didn't want to hurt you." He said, that hadn't gone very well had it? He'd disarmed him but at the same time he felt so guilty over it instead of feeling proud of the accomplishment. Jonas gave him a look, lifting a hand to rub at his chest, "Feh, whatever Birdy." He muttered as he pushed himself to his feet, his breath was knocked from his lungs but nothing more then that, nothing worse then that, "You cheated anyway." Ligeia blinked a couple of time, "H-Huh? Cheated?" Jonas walked over to pick up his staff, "Your a freak, you probably have some sort of animal super powers or something." "Now Jonas that's not very nice!" Lena said, resting her hands on her hips, shaking her head, "I think that he is very nice, very pretty. He didn't cheat." "R-Really I didn't. I just did what Miss Lilika and Cerlyn showed me." He said, looking down at his feet before he hurried to pick up his staff, "Umm... is that all? I should go and wait for my father if class is done." He murmured to the teacher. Lilika, who was a little suprised at all that had happened nodded, "Yes, class is over you three get your things together. It was a good class, thank you for coming and doing your best." Ligeia fled the room quickly, flushed some. He wasn't a freak, he didn't cheat, and he didn't have super powers... well aside from the flying, seeing in the dark, and cold tolerance thing. That was all only cause he was part owl though. ***** Ligeia gave a little sighing sound, leaning against the wall outside. He'd passed his class he figured from the praise that they had gotten from Miss Lilika but at the same time that didn't much seem to register, he should be happy but he wasn't. He would be glad to be back home, back at Dcorp where all of the students looked like he did, where he didn't stand out as a... freak? He opened up a wing, wrapping it around himself so that he could look it over. He then lifted a hand to pet it, he liked his wings, liked his feathers, liked everything there was to like about himself. There was no reason for why he should worry over what one child had said to him right? He looked over as his father and brother appeared, walking down the road towards him. He pushed away from the building, dropping his staff as he ran over. He hurried passed his father and all but tackled Ter, wrapping his arms around the snake child and hugged him tightly, "Ter..." He whimpered. The snake blinked a couple of times, wrapping his arms around him only because he was so damn confused that it was an automatic. Yellow eyes blinked before they looked up at Orpheus, begging for help. "Ligeia? How was class?" The owl looked over at him, not releasing his brother, "It was ok, can we go home now?" He asked quietly. Orpheus walked over to pick up his Ligeia's staff then nodded, "Of course. Come on you two, when we get home Ter can show you his new... sword." How had the snake talked him into a sword of all things. "Sounds good." Ligeia said, and they headed for D-Corp, Orpheus didn't question further what had happened. The owl would share in due time he was sure and when he did Orpheus would listen.
