I don't think our band is really like that...it's actually pretty cliquey. And the different sections don't mingle all that often.

We are strong supporters of bandcest though. wink

Something about band just makes you close :3

My band is the exact same way xD We have a small class, so we all laughed when we discovered we sat in the same places we would band, except table wise during lunch. It's like we need to be with each other I guess (>uo)

I guess if you look at it from a stranger's point, the band really is a family. We all fight occasionally, hog the tuner, share lunch, ride together, change in front of each other, and love each other c:

^^ this is very true.

Especially the bandcest in mine.

But ours don't get cliquy by sections - they just kinda hang out with the same people, who aren't necessarily from the same section.

Best example: our trombone and quad players are like best friends.

if our band wasnt like that we would have completly fallen apart this year when we got a new teacher. it was realy bad. we had about 14 kids graduate and only 5 come in from the freshman band class this year. our band is kinda cliquey though. but not by sections at all. at least not in the woodwinds. the brass section has there own thing going on.

scarily right now there is only one band relatinship...
me and my gf. the only band relationships at all this year are girls. 2 of the altos (broke up), one of those altos and a flute (no longer together), and me (bassclarinet) and my gf (flute/hororary oboe for the year).

our band is one huge family that right now has no mommy cause we dont wana accept the new band director as even a wicked step mother.

When in band the meaning of personal space goes away. Our BD actually comit's the crime of PDA to a point. Not sexually enough to lose his job, but just enough to be fun. The PDA rule is not enforced that much. I mean nobody has been spotted making out or kissing, but we hold hands, and hug, and stuff like that.

Mmm, nostalgia.

Heck, I was a chaperone for the band after I left and it was like nothing changed. Hugs all around for me. xD But I'm mostly a hands-off guy outside hugs. Dun wanna give the wrong message there.

And, it's official, that band has bandcest going on, too. Not while I was there playing with them and in school, to my knowledge, but it does now. XD

My band is weird. We have cliques by section and all the outcasts of some sections are their own thing. I was a fluter, but my section hated me (I'm now bassoon with low brass). All by band friends are pit, "reject" clarinets, and two less-than-stereotypically perverted low brass chicks.
On Bandcest, almost every flute player my first two years had been with the drum major/perc leader, color guard and drum line always hook up, but they cheat on each other with other guard/drumline people, the trumpet players all like woodwinds, and low brass is one of those "love everyone equally" groups. No couples there, but they've all hit on everyone.

In a lot of ways, our band's closer than family. Shoot, we eat together, sleep together on our frequent out-of state trips, ride together on bus trips worse than any family road trip known to man, and don't even blink at the fact that we have guys and girls changing together on the bus. And then, during the rare hours we're not at some band function or another, we're...at each other's houses. There's no hope left for us...

We have a pretty strict PDA rule (for good reason), but there isn't much in the way of personal space. We can be pretty clique-y though. Clarinets and trumpets do not get along, ever. Our all male tuba section molest each other. Plenty of 'don't quite fit in' sorts wandering around. The clarinets have pow-wow's fairly regularly.

But for lack of personal space the choir can't be topped. (Mostly because there are so many choir members that are also theater people. sweatdrop )

yeah ive noticed that alot, im usually the one that starts the touching and i dont discriminate i touch the percussionists, the saxs, the guard, and the flutes, im probably the most touchy in the low brass section.

I am with oOdaddyOo on this one. Our band is th emost notorious organization on campus. Handjobs on the bus, BJ's in bathrooms, and not just changing in front of each other, but going commando. But everyone is friends with everyone else, and sometimes a little too friendly.

We have a hundred and sixty four people in our band...
the band room is comfortable for around 50 to 70 people
We HAVE to be close.

The only thing that keeps my band from having sexy with each other at band competitions (when we win) and at football games (When we win and/or pwn the other school's band) is the PDA and people.

If they weren't there, it'd be a giant orgy.
