Jabir quietly made his way down the hall, past Cato's and Aladon's rooms, before stopping in front of Reid's room. A long hand reached into an equally deep pocket before extracting a sealed envelope. The names of Reid and Chao were scrawled across it's ivory surface. The tall Mishap chuckled before slipping in under the door,"hope they cope with this one..." he said before going to the next room.
Quote: Dear Chao and Reid, As you very well know, Reid is quite the musician! Though have you both noticed many more mistakes in his piano playing? It seems to be getting harder to correctly play certain chords and melodies Though apparently this is not the only problem. Lately his pants have been falling down as well (luckly not in front of his friends yet) Why could this be? As guardian, it's your turn to step in and figure out why this is happening. Feel free to visit the infirmary if necessary! -The Mishap Staff

Chao yawned and arched up from her place on the bed in the corner of the room, peeking her eyes open to glance at two of her children. Reid was sitting on the piano stool [or rather on a pillow atop the piano stool], tapping away at the keys, trying yet again to get a melody right while Aido watched on, bi-colored gaze alternating between the pages in front of her face and her brother.
Yawning she slid out of bed and raised a hand to shove it through her hair only to be stopped mid-motion at Aido's hesistant 'Aemu' from her corner.
"Aemu you're hand is covered in black stuff," the Tale informed her before glancing back to Reid, "that part didn't sound quite right."
Reid nodded and stuck out his tounge, poking about until he found the right note then began the short melody from the beginning once again. He'd get it right this time!
"Oh, yeah," Chao grimaced and looked at the bed, noting the smears of oil on the bedsheet. What had possessed her to fall into bed without washing properly?
Oh. Yes, it must've been the lack of sleep, her stupid midterms and one track mind.
Shaking her head she strolled over, about to head back through the closet, confident that Aido could look after her younger brother as he practised, only to pause as a white envelope caught her eye.
Frowning she trotted over to the main door and, after wiping her hands on her already stained jeans, picked up the envelope and slip it open, eying the contents curiously.
"What is it Aemu?" Aido asked, setting aside the Beastery she'd been reading to trot to her mother's side, reading over her shoulder.
"It's another quest, Reid sounds like you're going to grow soon."
"Ooo," maybe he'd end up tall enough to get rid of the pillow afterwards. He poked it in annoyance.
The teen tilted her head, she had noticed the slight challenge when it came to music lately but she'd assumed that was just normal for someone so new to the practice, but if it had a cause for it....
And, wait, what was this about Reid's pants falling down?
Looking over her shoulder Chao blinked at the sight of Reid's bare calves and pants which were currently dangling half on one bare ankle and half in the air.
"Oh." How'd she missed that development?

Reid sighed, grumbled, and lay his forehead flat against the keys of his piano, the ugly mesh of sounds that resulted caused his antenai to quiver and his ears to ache but he didn't move, emerald eyes focused on the dragon plush held in two of his hands. He'd been practising, or attempting to practice, casting since he'd grown. But it was proving hard to get started, even after talking to his sister. With a third hand he poked at the plush, willing himself to feel the forces keeping it like that. As usual, it didn't work. Not in the mood to try again he pushed himself back up and began to play a suitably fast meloy to fit with his mood, but continued to cradle the plush in his two other hands. Normally when he played he got so wrapped up in the sounds that he stopped thinking about everything else, but he couldn't seem to get his mind off the plush in his hands. There should be some sort of force pushing out and another pushing down, and the plush was a set size, and if he just pushed a bit.... A clatted from above halted his playing and he looked up, only to yelp as a small black and yellow creature's skull came crashing into his own. The plush tumbled beneath the piano stool as Reid fell backwards, knees clattering against the underside of the piano itself and he landed in a stunned lump with the little creature. "Owww..." he groaned and looked to where the thing had landed on his chest, "hello there, why'd you divebomb me?"The triune shook itself, beady eyes glancing to the thing he'd landed on to the rest of the room and finally to the ceiling vent he'd fallen out of. He yipped in indignation, stupid faulty grates!Reid looked up, following the triune's gaze, and blinking curiously at the vent he'd failed to notice before. It wasn't huge but it wasn't tiny, "wonder where it goes...."The triune looked back to the many armed creature. What was this thing? A fellow ninja perhaps? He seemed to understand the significance of well placed, and well sized, ventalation shafts. Yes, that was why he'd been sent here then! To study with this other ninja! He sniffed and yipped, and there was food here! Well, that closed the deal, he would stay here with his fellow ninja as his size and skills desperately needed work.Reid smiled slightly, one hand cradling his head, catching the hungry toned yip, "you hungry?" The triune yipped again and wagged it's tail before scurring onto his shoulder and nudging at him. He wanted food now, not later, thank you very much other ninja creature.Taking the bizarre little creature in two of his hands Reid laughed and stood up, "okay, okay, let's find you some food, do you have a name?"The triune yipped, he had been called by many names! The Black Death, the Avenger, Shadow of Peril...."How about Axel?" Reid looked around and pulled the plush he'd been playing with out from under the piano. Rotating it in his hands he eyed it curiously. Why was the head so small? The newly dubbed Axel blinked then yipped, why yes, that would do nicely. Good choice other ninja!"And I'm Reid," he continued and pressed at the plush. Nothing happened except that the fabric smooshed inwards a bit. With a frown he tried to feel for the same things he'd felt earlier and pressed again. The forelegs shrunk, not a lot, and the attempt left him panting, but glowing like a headlight in excitement. That had never happened before! Ever! Ninja Reid then!Putting the plush down he grinned at Axel happily, "what do you think of chicken?"A joyful yip, that sounded wonderful ninja Reid! The door that led to the other home jiggled slightly and slid open as Chao walked though, looking over to watch as Reid grappled with the refridgerator door. "Here Reid I'll get...that...?" Chao trailed off as she nearly trod on a black and yellow...thing. "What in the...?" "His name's Axel," Reid called back, wings fluttering for all they were worth against the suction of the refridgerator's door until it finally came loose and swung away. Axel glared at the big creature and abruotly dissapeared into a small could of smoke, only to reappear a moment later on Reid's head as the Firefly pulled out a chunk of chicken. "But... where'd it come from?" Chao asked, looking around. "The ceiling vent."Chao groaned and put her hand to her forehead. The fact that Reid didn't seem at all weirded out or suspicious about ninja like creatures falling out of the ceiling was more than a little unnerving. "Reid he might not be safe...." "He is," Reid looked up to his mother and grinned, handing the chicken to Axel. Why was she so worried anyway? It was just Axel. The grin turned into a yawn. Chao eyed her son curiously, "you sure?" "Mmhmmm....""Alright...but we're going to keep an eye on him for a while just to be sure, okay?" Reid rolled his eyes and pulled out another piece of chicken for Axel. Chao sighed, alright, she would keep an eye on the bizarre creature then. "And we're going to get him checked out at the doctor's." "'Kay, Mu, m'tired. I'm gonna head home," grabbing last piece of chicken Reid hopped into the air, much to Axel's chargin, grabbed his plush and headed through the open door back to his room.

:: Of air Vents and a Firefly-Squirrel Duet:: Ike sat on the rug beside his bed, playing a riveting game of war with Skelly.
"Aces are high."
"Oh, right," Ike shook his head to try and clear it, taking the ace and king laying on the rug before him. It was his first time alone in the room, and he was bored enough to start tearing out his own fur.The thing about the air vents was that they were confusing. There were far too many twists and turns for Reid to ever keep track of, though Axel seemed to always know where he was going and where he was.
Sadly the ninja triune had decided not to join Reid on a quest to find a shorter way downstairs so fourty minutes into a shuffling quest to find a shorter way downstairs he was completely lost.
Reid sighed and shuffled further along, finnally sighting a crack of light. He was bored and confused, at this point it really didn't matter if he found himself downstairs or in the attic, he just wanted to get out.
The slits in the grate didn't show him enough to know where he'd ended up but it was definately a way out. Reid threw his weight against the small panel, willing the screws to give. They didn't.
"Come on... Lemme out!" he growled, throwing his weight against it again. The screws gave way and he tumbled out, taking the metal panel with him.Ike leaped back at the noise, cards flying about him in an agaitated flurry. It took him only a split second to realize what was happening before he shot forward, attempting to catch whomever was falling out the vent.
"I've gotcha!" he called, laying on his bed and holding his arms and legs up, bent to brace him for the collision.
"Be careful!"
Reid quickly realized he'd ended up in someone's room. Wings fluttering he yelped and attempted to right himself and just fly back into the air vent before he could be seen.
He didn't manage to right himself in time and ended up landing in a pair of hands.
"Sorry! Sorrysorry! I didn't think this was someone's room!" he pushed himself up, balancing on the hands and looking down to further his apologies now that a speedy anonomous escape was out of the question and paused, then lit up.
"Ike!"
Ike laughed richly and placed Reid on his bed beside him.
"Reid! The vents?!" he laughed again and hugged his best friend gently. He was so small now. No normal hugs. No normal anything. Ah well. Reid was Reid was Reid.
"Hi, Reid," Skelly waved from the floor, beginning to pick up the cards that had been thrown.
Reid returned the hug with enthusiam, all four arms included in the motion and laughed with a bit of embarassment and a shrug.
"Yep, the vents. They're awesome! Well... dusty and confusing, but awesome all the same," he shook his head, "except the getting out part, I... haven't gotten that down yet."
Sighting the plush Reid returned the wave, "'lo Skelly, sorry, did I interrupt your guys' card game? I couldn't tell where I was...."
Ike shook his head.
"You didn't interrupt anything. I was bored out of my mind."
"Thanks."
"Oh, you know what I mean," Ike turned to Skelly and then back to Reid, "I don't think I'd be able to do that. I start freaking out in small spaces."
Reid nodded and leant back against his hands, "I don't mind the smallness of it most of the time, it's only when there're no slits or ways out for a long time that I start to freak. But
it's fun and something to do when I don't feel like practising or going outside."
"I guess so," Ike nodded and flopped forward, resting his head in his hands and crossing his knees, "How've you been? Has anything new happened lately?"
"I've been oki," Reid shuffled and shifted until he was mirroring Ike's posistion, "I'unno... I accidently shrunk a plush the other day, but I was trying to make it grow so..."
He shrugged and shook his head again to get rid of the lingering thoughts on his alignment and smiled, "but Mu also found a bunch of new piano songs for me to practice and they've been nice. What about you? Are you still playing the violin?" If Ike was then maybe they could play together sometime.
"That's still better than me," Ike shrugged, "All I can do is this."
He held out his hand, causing a ball of light to hover above his palm before disappearing completely.
"Yuh, I still play violin. It's not so fun any more, though. William kinda helped me, so...yeah." He sighed and gave the violin on the stand in the corner a thoughtful glance.
He loved his violin, but ehat good was playing the it when the talent wasn't his?
"Liam's trying to teach me how to write music. That way, it can be my own. It's...really hard..."
Reid watched closely as the light formed then flickered out of exsistance. "But you can make something..."
As Ike's gaze shifted over to the violin in the corner Reid followed and smiled, "even if it's hard it's awesome that you're even trying. I can barely read music, I don't think I could ever even try to write it."
He paused and tilted his head, "will you write something for me and my piano someday?"
"I can read it...but I can't tell you any notes or anything," Ike smiled, "Yeah, sure. I'll write you something when I get good enough. It might be a while. A long while."
He paused for a moment to think.
"Do you sing at all?"
Reid chuckled and grinned, "I don't mind waiting."
He blinked at Ike's question and had to think about it. "A little..." he'd never sung with anyone, it was more spontaneous little bursts of song when he was alone and needed to hear some sort of sound or when he was listening to his MP3 player and didn't realize he was doing it.
"Alright, then," Ike nodded, "I think you should sing more. I'm sure your voice would be better than mine."
"Malachi! Don't forget," Skelly called from beneath the bed as he dragged out a meticuously wrapped package, about a quarter of his size.
"Oh, right!" Ike flopped over the side of the bed and picked the package up, "I got you this a little while ago." He held the gift out to Reid, his muscles twitching a bit under the weight.
It was a little obsidian sculpture of a piano with marble keys and silver wire detailing. It made sense to buy a piano for a pianist, so he'd spent the last of his allowance on it.
Reid huffed out a breath and cocked an eyebrow at Ike, "that's not true. Your voice has a much better sound than mine," had Ike not moved he would've poked the other Mishap or maybe pestered him into singing to prove it.
But instead he merely blinked as a package was presented to him and sat up, taking it carefully in his four hands and placing it on the bed in front of him to careful open the wrapping.
At the sight of the tiny piano Reid's eyes widened and he carefully traced the details with his hands. He gently tapped the tiny marble keys with the ends of his nails, looking all the more pleased when it didn't ring back at him but instead just echoed his taps.
"Wow Ike..." he breathed, he'd never seen something like the tiny sculpture....
Carefully he place the tiny piano down and, grinning like a maniac, launched himself to enthusiasticly hug his best friend. "It's so awesome! Thank you!"
Ike laughed and hugged Reid back.
"You're welcome. I wasn't sure if it was...too much," the boy nodded, his tail swishing happily, "You may be my best friend, but I'm still not too sure of what you like."
He thought for a moment.
"Yanno? I don't think I've ever heard you play your piano..."
Reid shook his head, "it's not too much at all. And... I dunno, sometimes I don't really know what I like either, or what anyone else likes for that matter. But I like it!"
He blinked and tilted his head, mulling that over, "yeah... huh... and I don't think I've ever heard you play your violin either...."
"Good," Ike smiled, and then pointed to his door, "I wanna hear you play. Is the piano in your room, or at your house?"
He was determined to hear his friend play within the hour, if it was going to kill him.
"My room," Reid replied, grinning as he realized where this was going, "but if I have to play you have to play with me. Or after me, whichever." Though in truth he'd rather do a duet with his friend.
Ike huffed before leaping off of the bed and retrieving his violin and bow from the corner.
"Deal," he smiled. On an impulse, he flopped over the side of his bed again and retrieved a piece of simple, hand-written sheet music with "Ussta Alurl Abbil" scrawled at the top.
"Shall we?" he motioned out the door with his bow.
Reid's glow brightened and he nodded, gathering up the miniture piano in his hands, using all four of them to be sure he wouldn't drop the statuete.
He hopped off the bed and glided to the floor then paused, waiting for Ike to get the door as it was impossible for him to get it with his statuete in his hands.
Ike grasped his violin bow gently between his teeth and opened the door, making his way to Reid's room. He loved the new HQ plans and just how close he and all of his friends were, room-wise.
Reid followed along, flying in order to keep up with Ike's long stride. Thankfully the door to his room had been left open a crack and he was able to push it open with a bit of wing pumping and the use of his shoulder.
A small yellow and black shape froze as they entered and Axel's beady eyes sized up the tall white creature fellow ninja Reid had apparently brought back with him and yipped quizzically. Who is this and why aren't you coming back through the air vents?
"Hey Axel, this is Ike, Ike that's Axel," Reid said and fluttered put his the mini piano down carefully on the bedside table before dropping to the ground and heading over to where his piano sat.
"Hi, Axel."
Ike bent down to the little yellow-and-black...thing and held out his hand to it. It was a cute little...whatever it was. He was soon distracted, though, and scampered quickly after Reid, kneeling beside the piano bench.
Axel flicked his tail at the white thing and poofed away in a cloud of black smoke. A moment later there was the sound of scampering in a nearby airvent. If ninja Reid wanted to risk being exposed it was his own choice, he'd return later when the white thing was gone.
Reid looked up at the air vents, tracking the sound and shaking his head. Axel was so weird sometimes.
Looking over to Ike he grinned and shifted on the piano bench, his fingers were nearly itching to play now, "want to play something together or...?"
"Depends," Ike shrugged, "D'you have any music for duets?" He took a seat on the edge of the piano bench, twirling his bow between his fingers.
Reid looked upwards, thinking before pawing through his small stash of written music that was kept just beneath the piano stoll.
Coming up with nothing he sighed unhappily and shook his head, "I thought I did but I guess not..."
"Well, that's okay," Ike said and placed his rumpled, simplistic sheet music before them on the piano, "You can read music, right?"
It was a stupid question, but he had to ask.
"A bit..." Reid looked it over, fingers twitching a little in anticipation of the keys he was fairly sure the notes indicated before curiously looking up to Ike again, "can you hum a little of it for me? And what's 'Ussta Alurl Abbil'?"
Ike arched an eyebrow and decided to not tell his friend what the title was.
"Piano's the first line, I guess. It goes kinda like...err..." he said before humming the beginning of the piece. It was fairly mid-range and not very complicated, but it was quite pretty with an almost creepy chord progression.
"Key of F," he nodded after he finished.
Reid nodded in time, closing his eyes Ike's humming made everything fall into line. It was always easier to play something when he had an idea of what it was supposed to sound like.
He opened his eyes and nodded, "ahhhmmm...okay," wiggling a bit more he sat up straight and looked over to make sure Ike was ready.
Ike placed the violin under his chin and readied his bow and fingers. He gave a short nod and counted.
"Five, six, seven, eight," he waited a beat, closed his eyes, and began to play.
Reid took a breath and began to play on Ike's count. He relaxed into the song after a few moments when he didn't stumble on the unfamilar territory and the mesh of their sounds sounded like an actual melody instead of a car crash or something equally unpleasant.
Ike opened his eyes upon finishing, wishing that Liam hadn't written something so short. He smiled and nodded to Reid.
"You're good."
Reid returned the smile and leant back against his hands, that'd been fun! "So're you," next chance he got he was going to have track down more duet music so they could do that again.
Abruptly he laughed warmly and his smile stretched to a grin, "we've come far from our candy wrapper roots, haven't we?"
"Not quite," Ike smiled and reached into his pocket, pulling out a handful of candy, "For old times' sake?" He took a blood candy and traditionally unwrapped it with his teeth. He held the rest out to Reid.
Reid nearly fell off the piano stool at the sight of the candies. He laughed again and glowed brightly as he took one, mirroring Ike by unwrapping it with his teeth.
He held the empty wrapper up like a toast, touching it to Ike's and prompty squished it, producing a satisfying crunch.
Ike laughed and touched his wrapper to Reid's before crushing it between his hands and rubbing them together. Ah, what a sweet sound.
He laughed again.
"We're insane, yanno that?" he said more than asked and carefully pocketed the rest of the candies.
Reid snickered, twisting his wrapper before crushing it again, "yeah, but we're insane together."
"Always," Ike laughed.
"Ike! IKE! Where is he?!"
"I dunno! He was here when we left!"
"YOU LEFT HIM ALONE?!"
"He's a kid!"
"Exactly! He's just a kid! L'ADRIEN. WHAT DID YOU DO?!"
"Augh...COMING, MUMMY!" Ike cringed and looked toward the door, "I should go before my mum kills Liam. I'll see you soon, kay?" He stood quickly and gave Reid a big hug before waving and disappearing out the door.

 ::Listen to Your Elders.... ::
"Aiai! Aiai!" Reid threw his weight against his sister's door until it creaked and slid open.
Dragon plush grasped firmly in his hands the firefly Mishap flew towards his sister's bed, divebombing the curled up figure that lay atop the sheets, cradling a book and, apparently, attempting to ignore him.
With a squawk the half asleep girl tumbled off the side of her bed, her overexuberent sibling landing atop her and quickly shoving a plush in her face.
"Look! Look! It's bigger!" Well, the entire plush wasn't bigger, he'd only managed to get it's head to grow. But he'd been practicing almostly constantly since he'd fallen into Ike's bedroom and the desire to fix himself had been rekinded.
A pair of blue eyes blinked back at him and a frown pucked his forehead as he pulled the plush back to him, emerald eyes glaring as he took in the woman wearing his sister's face.
"You're not Aiai. Where is she?"
Kibeth mentally sighed and returned Aido's sibling's glare with a slight smile, "she's asleep."
"What're you doing out...?" he paused and tilted his head, before resuming his glare, "Kibeth."
Kibeth started slightly and frowned, "now how, little one, do you know my given name?"
Reid's expression didn't shift, "I could hear it, answer my question." The melody in the back of his head had started up again.
Holding up her hands Kibeth smiled, "I was taking care of necessities, her bladder would've exploded otherwise. Now, what do you mean, you could hear my name?"
Reid crossed his legs and fully sat on the Kibeth woman, still glaring, "I heard it, that's how I knew it. Why did you have to take care of things? Aido knows how to use the bathroom herself."
Aido's eyes narrowed in consideration as Kibeth eyed the firefly boy, "names are dangerous things to know, espically if they're not freely given." She replied slowly, before mentally shaking her head, feeling Aido beginning to rouse herself. Apparently the restorative sleep her mind needed could be damned to hell when her brother was around.
Kibeth sighed and smiled, "Aido's waking up, ask any other questions you have to her." She blinked and Aido's bi-colored eyes were suddenly on her brother, blinking sleepily.
"Nyeh? What? Reid? Wha'reewdoin'inmaroomh?" she garbled out, putting a hand over her eyes and rubbing. What time was it?
"Aiai!" Reid hugged his sister happily, "what was Kibeth doing out? Where were you?"
"Kibeth? You talked to her?" Aido blinked, her... whatever Kibeth was, had never talked to her family before.
"Mmhmm, she said you were sleeping."
"I... was," it was too early-late... whatever for all this. Still, the Tale offered her brother a tired smile, "what's going on anyway?" Kibeth poked at her consciousness, "did you want to show me something?"
"Oh!" his earlier excitement returned quickly and Reid presented his elder sister with the enlarged dragon plush.
She took it and smiled, "I take it the casting is going better then?"
Reid nodded happily, glowing warmly.
Aido hugged her younger brother and yawned again, returning the plush to his hands, "I'm glad."
Reid's smile shifted slightly to a half frown, "you alright, Aiai?"
Aido smiled and ruffled his hair, "I'm fine, just alittle tired."
"You're never this tired."
Aido chuckled, "well you and Kibeth did wake me up...."
Flushing Reid fluttered up and landed a few feet away, head bowed. He scratched at his hair, "sorry Aiai, I thought you were awake...."
Aido waved him off, climbing out of the heap of blankets and shoving them back onto her matress, "it's fine. It was an honest mistake," another yawn and her head wavered, eyes fluttering, "sorry Reid... I can't seem to keep my eyes open."
Reid shook his head, "don't be sorry Aiai, just go back to bed." Waving he hopped into the air and headed out the door, "g'night Aiai! Sleep well!"
Aido returned the wave sluggishly and collapsed back into bed.
