If anyone apart from Berz has read my little extract in the "Description & Atmosphere" thread, then you'll understand the nature of the character a lot better if you have ears for heavy metal and listen to song that Rob Zombie made for the Matrix Reloaded, "Reload" and if you give her wings and put her in aerial combat, then it'll be Oakenfold, "Dread Rock".

I have a new favourite song! Nik Kershaw - I Won't Let the Sun Go Down On Me (YouTube).
It goes really with my pirate's personality and holds a lot of meaning for him and also myself.
I think it's really a very political song which highlights the reality of how our governments rule the world, and how a man like Nik (as he sings it) isn't prepared to let it get to him and destroy him. How would you interpret it? I'm not sure about the second verse.
Lyrics Forty winks in the lobby, make mine a G&T Then to our favorite hobby, searching for an enemy Here in our paper houses, stretching for miles and miles Old men in stripy trousers rule the world with plastic smiles
Good or bad, like it or not It's the only one we've got
I won't let the sun go down on me I won't let the sun go down I won't let the sun go down on me I won't let the sun go down
Mother nature isn't in it, three hundred million years Goodbye in just a minute, gone forever, no more tears Pinball man, power glutton, vacuum inside his head Forefinger on the button, is he blue or is he red
Break your silence if you would Before the sun goes down for good
I won't let the sun go down on me I won't let the sun go down I won't let the sun go down on me I won't let the sun go down
I won't let the sun go down on me I won't let the sun go down
I won't let the sun go down on me I won't let the sun go down I won't let the sun go down on me I won't let the sun go down

I don't know how to interpret it honestly... It does remind me of a song by Elton John and George Michael though... mrgreen

I get a lot of imagery from music some relating back to Indian chanting mantra music and yet from those I get a very good description of an image in my mind of a calm and peaceful state. I think that listening to any sorts of music can give a different image or even a different energy to them like rock or metal could give a different imagery then something that is calm, yet using imagery in writing helps as a whole i think.

Yes, it does help! However, since I haven't been listening to much music lately I haven't had any inspiration from music as you may imagine. sweatdrop

Well, at least you still manage to listen to it.
So, do you get any imagery from the music you do listen in the car? neutral

from when i do, not much.
Though one song has sent me into addiction mode. "My Heart Will Go On." By Celine Dion. One of the most powerful songs I have ever heard. I heard it before and thought, oh very nice, but now I'm like "Repeat song, Repeat song."

So you mean to say you don't have an MP3 player? I no longer have a CD player myself and oddly enough, I don't have an MP3 player either but guess what? I can use my Nintendo DS as an MP3 player; cool right?
That is understandable, Celine has one hell of a voice if I do say so myself. She's one of my favorite singers and that is one of her coolest songs. I mean, who else would the maker of that song was gonna chose to sing it in the first place? Seriously!

I find it easier to write scenes with music as well. I tend to listen to Linkin Park's "New Divide" while describing a location very similar to Hell. It's mostly due to the opening when he says "i remember black skies, the lightning all around me." That paints a portrait in my mind of exactly how I think this place should look when I'm writing about it. A desolate area, dark with flashes of lightning all around the characters. The ground, rough and cracked with hard sand seeping into the small cracks. Wind soflty blowing while carrying a terrible heat. The place is mostly silent exempt from the deep moaning of the monsters dwelling within. Otherwise, it's straight to Globus or any other form of orchestra and orchestra rock for any battle/sad/heartwarming/intense moment. If it isn't availibe...i regret to say, I have my video game music from Ocremix. HA! And that is my rant
