Going Out
According to all the magazines that Rory had read, this was a date. Basicly.... Chris asked her to go some where with him, and that counted as a date! (Or so she told herself.)

Her mother wasn't going to let her wear make up (mostly because Ze'zee didn't have a clue about how one wore make up), but she did dress nicely today. Thought not in a dress. Dresses would be a problem for gaming. It felt... lacking though. Probably because she wasn't as old as the modle girls she had seen. They all had boobs, she didn't.

But that wasn't going to stop her! She had a little notebook with a list of important tips the mags had given. And a list of gift ideas for Wisp.

She was all smiles, heading for where Chris should be.

Chris had no idea what was going through her head. He was dressed, as usual, in a pair of worn jean shorts and a tank top. He was also getting impatient. She was late. He told her that they would meet at the corner of Durem at three (it was a Saturday) and it was nearing three thirty.

He was getting tired of people looking at him strangely, too.

"Hi Chris!" she said, zooming up to where he stood. As she stopped, a bit of wind hit her hair from where she was speed-running. She was a lot better at it than she had been.

"Sorry I'm late, Mama wanted to reconfirm everything," she told him, rolling her eyes.

"You told her we were just goin' to go look for a gift for Wisp, right?" Chris asked, not even noticing she was dressed nicer than usual. He stood and stretched, much like a large cat with one leg behind him and arching his back. He switched legs before looking at her. "Let's go already. You're late."

"And then going to your house, I told her," she replied. "And I said sorry," she added, sticking her tongue out at him before realizing she did that.

"Anyway, so, we want a gift for Wisp. Wisp likes interesting, fun, things, right?" she said, not really asking him as they started to walk. She didn't even notice the looks people gave.

"Uh huh," Chris said. As far as he was concerned his duty was to pay the bill once she picked out something Wisp would like. (He had no idea that that was boyfriend thinking, to a tee.) "Maybe flowers?" he offered. Flowers were easy, after all.

"I was thinking something a little more. I mean, you can easily pick flowers, right?" she answered him and pulled out her list of things. "Like maybe glitter hair gel..."

Okay, well, she couldn't grab his arm to walk with him like that. He knuckled walked. She had to figure out another way to do this. After all, walking too close and they'd trip..

"Yeah, I guess," he admitted. "Um... jewelry?" he offered. It was more of a "what does mom like?" kinda thing. He figured if his mom liked it, other girls would, right? He stopped, looking at her. "I got you that necklace, right?"

"Uh huh," she said, reaching up to touch the said necklace. It was something she tended to were all the time. "But that wasn't an 'I'm sorry' gift."

Then she tilted her head. "Ya know, we could get her some little things and put them in a basket or something like that. Like a little necklace, some flowers, sparkly hair gel, and... well, things like that?" she offered him that idea.

Something in her twitched though, when he mentioned getting Wisp flowers or necklaces... Didn't boyfriends buy girlfriend those sort of things? Magazines said so...

"Alright," he said. "But I don't wanna look TOO sorry, ya know? Cuz I'm not. This is still a stupid idea, and I ain't takin' that back." He was quite set on that fact. He had no idea that she was suddenly thinking boyfriends and all that stuff. If he had he would have been protesting hard.

Not that she knew, and not that she realized. Just everyone was suggesting that Chris was her boyfriend (well, if you count Antony and Wisp as everyone), and she liked Chris and after reading more in those teeny-bober magazines that Wisp got her hooked on, it seemed right.

"Don't worry! It'll be fun," she assured him happily, turning into the first store that looked interesting. "Jace wouldn't let Wisp in the band anyway, would she?" she asked after a moment.

"It's not Jace's band," Chris said. "But we don't have any more instruments we need, so I guess she could find something else to do with it. I don't care." He shrugged, figuring that it answered the question, even though he still sounded as if he were pouting.

"Now you're just pouting," she pointed out. Then picked something up from up from the shelf to show him. She leaned over, following what the articles said, to show off her 'assets'. Which she didn't have.

He completely didn't notice. The lack of assets had that sort of affect. "Um... think she'd like it?" he asked, looking around the store. It was one of those girly places that gave him the creeps. "How bout a stuffed animal or somethin?" he asked. "We could win something from the arcade!"

She pouted since he didn't take notice. Yeah, you had to have them for this to work, right? So of course he didn't notice! She put the thing back since Wisp probably wouldn't have liked it anyway.

Then he suggested the arcade. The arcade had been a lot of fun! And if they worked for the 'I'm sorry' gift, then it would mean more, right? "Ya know, that sounds like fun!"

"She'd probably get mad that we didn't take her with us, though," he said. "So keep looking and if we can't find anything we'll go then."

"Oh, well, yeah, okay," she said with a little sigh. But, well, it was time spent with Chris! This also meant she couldn't show off her dancing... "They've got fun games, there, though. We went one time with Antony!"

That... just pissed him off more. He grunted and headed for the back where there were some rainbow things. "How about this?" he asked, picking out a patch that could be ironed on to something. It was shaped like a rainbow.

Jealousy! Maybe, well... he didn't like Antony and Rory didn't know. The older boy was perfectly cool to hang out with, even if he was a little stiff.

She followed him to the patch, and other things, and looked at it. Then grinned. "She'll like that! See? You are good at this," she told him. Never mind the girl would draw this herself. Patches were just cool, if you think about it. "But we should probably get more than just a patch."

"Yeah, okay," he said, looking around. "From here, though?" he asked, feeling quite strange in the annoying pink decoration scheme. "We could get her cookies or somethin'."

"Yeah," she snickered at his almost panicked look. She didn't even think that he looked odd here. "We'll go, get her cookies, and a flower and a patch. A stuffed toy, maybe? And cookies for you, of course." She had a feeling he was getting hungry. Especially after mentioning cookies.

"They got these huge cookies that are like cakes!" he said, getting happy again. "I'll even share a slice with you," he promised generously. "And we can get some smaller cookies for Wisp," he added as an afterthought.

"Oh, so I'll get a slice?" she asked in a tease, grinning at him as they went to the counter. "A big one, I hope!"

"Maybe," he said. "I don't make any promises." It was sweets, after all. He was fond of sweets. "But I guess we should pay for this and go find a stuffed animal," he said, holding up the patch.

"Okay," she told him, taking the patch. He at least offered to share his food! And that was sweet of him. Though she did miss that bright smile he gave her when they were little. "Then... you wanna go to the arcade anyway? We'll be done with Wisp's gifts?"

"Yeah, alright," he said, pulling out some money and handing it to her. He didn't have much luck with buying things himself. People always thought he was holding them up.

"We'll just not tell her we got it from the arcade," he said.

"Uh huh!" she added in reply, taking his money and paying for the items. His problem with cashiers wasn't known to her, either. After paying, she went back to him with the little package.

"So, cookies now?"

"Nope," he said. "Cuz I'll be hungrier after gaming. We should go to the arcade first." He turned, heading out the door and for the arcade game.

He was a lousy date.

I'm Sorry, Kinda
It took him half the day to get the guts up to do this, Chris thought as he casually crossed in front of the tree where Wisp was sitting all alone, eating her lunch. His wrist flicked and a small bag landed on her lap. It was one of those shiny ones that moms got for their kids to use as gift wrapping.

Hanging from the handle was a little note that said in broad black marker writing, "I'm Sorry." He wasn't, really, he told himself, but he was supposed to do it.

Wisp had stiffened immediately, pausing in the middle of eating some raisins, obviously not knowing whether him flicking things at her was a call to war or otherwise; he hadn't paid any attention to her before, as though she'd been living on the surface of the moon, and her gut immediately clenched up in tangles as he finally made his approach.

Her hands fumbled with the little bag; when she opened it, there was a keychain there, of a yellow bunny rabbit. Yellow, pretty much her favourite colour (if she had a favourite colour) bunny rabbits, one of her favourite animals (if she had a favourite animal).

The box was immediately dropped from nerveless fingers as she stood up, upsetting raisins, bag and all, and there were two bright spots of colour in her cheeks: for a moment it seemed as though Wisp was going to yell at him. Then she simply launched herself at him bodily and buried her face in his midsection, trying to stretch her fairly small arms to get around him, which never really worked.

Aurora had been watching this from the sides, happy that Chris finally made his move. Even if he didn't look sorry for it! It was quite clear to anyone that Wisp needed it.

And it was boring without the other girl around. Wisp made a lot of things fun. Now, hopefully they could just get along again! The idea of Wisp not wanting to do anything dangerous was so out of the question, though.

Since he was still walking it wound up with Wisp riding him like a pony, clinging to his waist like that. "Oh c'mon already," he muttered. "It ain't that big a deal."

He was flushing purple, though, because it WAS really that big a deal. He had missed her, and just as soon as she got back they had started fighting! It wasn't good!

"It is that big a deal," said Wisp, muffled, into him, and if she had been a little younger she would have cried; her shoulders were shaking a little but the feeling passed, glad instead, face still buried and terribly terribly relieved. Incoherently, she added: "Please please please please please don't leave me ever again. I won't leave you either if you don't leave me."

Rory watched this, crossing her arms with a smug little smile on her face. See? This was a good idea! Chris had just been hardheaded about it! Why did boys get stupid sometimes? Why?

She wasn't going to speak till it was done, however.

He sighed. "Alright, already, I won't, okay?" he asked. "You can stop riding me now. Did you... did you like the patch?" he asked just a tiny bit shyly. He looked around for Rory, feeling uncomfortable with the situation.

"Patch?" It was only then that Wisp finally looked up and detached from Chris; she ran back to get the little bag, clutching the bunny keychain in her finger, rifling through the bag to get it. When she did, she immediately ran back to stand beside Chris again, obviously fearing that if she left him too long he would go away. She looked up at Rory and smiled radiantly; she was bouncing from foot to foot, laughing in delight. "You really got these for me? Was it Rory's idea? Thank you!"

"Chris picked it out! And the keychain was his idea too," Rory said proudly. She had wanted him to get her a stuffed animal, but Wisp was happy. That was fine!

She walked to the two now that they were done.

"Yeah, but..." Chris sighed. "You can join the band if you want. I dunno what you'll do, though, cuz we've got the instruments taken care of. But I guess you could help Jamie with the lights and stuff or something?"

"I can do fliers," said Wisp immediately, who had been thinking it up secretly with heart pangs ever since she'd found out about the band. "You know, like advertising? And I can paint the posters, and the CD covers, if you guys get CDs."

Life was suddenly good again.

"See? That is a good idea! We'll just check the spelling and stuff," Rory said, grinning at Chris. Finally their little trio was all back together! She just wasn't sure how Chris and Jace would deal with the likely bright colors Wisp would have used.

"Just remember we're ROCK, not POP, got it?" Chris asked dryly.

"Hey, I do rock!" Wisp said defensively, immediately mimicking an air guitar. "I do rave, too, and trance, because I heard it at a game Antony was playing and it's awesome -- " but seeing Rory's and Chris' expressions: "but rock, rock's cool too."

Rory laughed and hugged her colorful friend. "Good! This is going to be so much more fun with you in the band, now, too!" She then beamed at Chris. He did so well!

"Yeah, yeah," Chris said, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "And we need R.H.E. shirts, too... like a logo, or something I guess. But no rainbows."

"No rainbows," said Wisp. "Got it."

They could have maneating bats if they wanted them.

Chicken Nuggets
Her Mama had been letting her go off to places more and more on her own. This kinda freedom was awesome. Rory could run fast, very fast, and make it to school in no time. And she could run to stores and anywhere else she needed to go.

She was also enjoying Summer, and shorts. Her legs weren't hindered by pant legs or anything like that.

At this moment, she had run off to Wendy's. She was going to meet Chris here later, but right now, she was hungry and ordering herself something to eat. Maybe she could get him to try chicken!

Then she spotted someone that she knew. His blue head was easy to spot, so she went to him first. "Hi Antony!" she greeted, as she always did, with a bright smile.

For a moment he didn't respond, as if he hadn't heard her, or had forgotten his own name. then he turned, a blank look on his face for a mere second before he smiled. "Hello," he said. "How are you today?"

The robotic like response was just a little odd to her, but, well, she was thinking other things. "I'm good! How are you?" she replied, however. Her hands were behind her back as she spoke to him. "What brings you to Wendy's? Hungry too?"

When she didn't catch on quickly he started to relax. "Starving, actually," he said with an easy smile. "But I can't say I've eaten here before. What would you recommend?"

"Well, that depends on what you like. I'm going to give the Bacconator a try," she told him. He was a little off to her, being much less stuffy that what she was used too. Maybe he was done with homework? Or something.

"I'll do that," he said, smiling brightly. "So how have you been..." There was a faint pause and a slight frown on his face. "Wisp?" Who would name their kid Wisp?

Now that was very much not like Antony. He was so a**l about his shirts being white, not getting dirty and things like that. Yes, he was still cool in her eyes: he was older, he could dance and not sing, he could do fight.

And he wasn't one to forget names like this. If he forgot, he'd apologize and request the name again. So, she frowned slightly at this. "No, Wisp is my best friend," she replied and didn't supply her name.

"Oh, I meant how is Wisp?" he said, covering his mistake quickly. He was starting to realize that Antony wasn't going to help him with this. It was quite disappointing, if you asked him. "I'm sure you two are still quite close, right?"

The bell over the door rang as someone walked in, and Rudolfo turned, only to take a step back with a worried look on his face. He was staring at Chris.

Chris blinked at him, cocking his head slightly and scowling. He was used to that reaction... from people that didn't know him.

Strike two and three. Now she knew something was definitely wrong with the blue-boy. And since he was looking at Chris, she gave a very light little glare. One that vanished quickly.

The mystery of Antony would be solved. She wasn't going to drag it out of him. Yet.

Now her attention went to Chris and she moved to him, grinning. "Hi Chris! I was waiting for you," she told him, wrapping her arms around Chris' neck in a hug. With her back to Antony, she whispered only for the larger boy to hear. "He's acting odd. And forgetting names," she informed him.

Then let go of him.

"Ah, oh, Chris," Rudolfo said. She was hugging that thing?? Didn't she know a monster when she saw it?? "Nice to see you," he said, raising a hand in a pathetic attempt at a wave.

Chris grunted, looking at him for a long moment before turning towards the counter. "I'm hungry," he said. "What's there to eat here?"

His father had told him about Shade's asking for an exorcist. Now it made sense.

Rory was once again out of the loop. Well, mostly. She knew that there was something wrong with Antony, she just didn't know what.

"Well, you like fish, right? They do have fish sandwiches here. Or you could try the chicken nuggets," she told him, walking with him.

Then she looked to 'Antony'. "What are you going to get?" she asked him.

"I, ah, think I'll go with that bacon whatever thing you suggested," he said, still watching the black skinned male. Inwardly he ventured to ask Antony if he was friends with the monstrosity in front of him.

He went pale at the response. "Something like cousins?" he repeated aloud before he managed to stop himself.

Now Rory frowned at him finally. "Is there a problem?" she asked, almost sharply. One hand was resting on Chris's shoulder while her tail gave a little, almost nervous, wave.

Idly she wondered if this had anything to do with Thanatos, whom she couldn't see.

Chris sighed, turning to look at the other male. "Hey, Antony, wanna see a trick?"

"Absolutely not," Rudolfo answered straight away.

"Then quit acting like an idiot," he said as the line moved out of his way, allowing him to go to the counter first. That tended to happen, followed by looks of terror and people hiding their children behind their backs.

"Hey Chris, you want me to order us food? You and Antony can go find a place to sit," she offered, seeing right where this was going. So many people around and the looks they were giving him... Idiots!

And Chris was too old for the 'trick' line, as well. At least he was in her mind.

He would never outgrow the trick line, and he knew it. It was just too damn good. He grunted, though. "I want three fish burgers, two large fries, and a large chocolate milkshake," he said. "Or whatever it is they have here that's like that."

"I'll stay," Rudolfo said. "I'm sure that Chris is more than enough to get a table for us all."

Chris grinned at him, showing a few too many teeth for Antony's good, then paused as he walked past. "I don't like Antony," he said in a quiet rumble that wouldn't carry. "But I don't much like body snatchers, either."

Then he walked away before Rudolfo could reply.

Rory ordered their food and once the food was given, Antony's order too, she took the tray to head where Chris was. Then she looked up at the older boy. "You're still coming, right?"

He wasn't the Antony that she knew, therefore, she wanted to know who he was. She had been thinking that over as she waited for the food.

"I still need to get my food, though," Rudolfo said, still wondering how in the hell Antony faced up with a kid that looked like he was from the depths of hell...

"I ordered it for you, already," she told him. Then cocked her head to the side. "Who are you, anyway?" she asked bluntly. "I know you're not Antony."

"I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about," he said, looking her straight in the eye. "I'm Antony. I've always been Antony. How can someone not be himself?"

"The body might be, but you're not," she told him. Then shrugged, walking away from him. "There's no point in lying."

He stared after her, then very calmly, very politely, walked out of the restaurant. He only needed a little longer, he thought. He would have to move faster, though, and kill Shade now. Too many people had guessed his secret.

"He's running," Chris said when she got to him.

"I know," she said, taking a seat. "so, that means I have a Bacconator, anyway. " She had ordered nuggets for herself, and started dividing up the food.

"I think it's a spirit that's in Antony's body. Do you want me to go and stop him? I can catch up easily enough."

"Nah, Shade knows about it," Chris said as he started to eat. "He's gonna have Father Higgins exorcise him next weekend. But I don't know what they're waiting for."

"Ummm, maybe they have to get permission from the Church?" she suggested, starting on her meal. "I saw this program about ghosts and getting rid of them. Father Higgins is Catholic, right? So, they need permissions and things, before they can go about it."

Television was an awesome source of information. But it was sad that Antony got possessed. How that happened, she didn't know. But still, she didn't like this ghost in him.

"Yeah, maybe," he said with a shrug before going back to his food. They were cabbage kids, after all. They didn't DO normal.

"Wanna try chicken now?" she asked, holding out a nugget. He had been curious before and these nuggets were the best she knew of. So, with Antony not being a concern now, she might as well see if Chris wanted to try other meats!

He took it, sniffing it and taking a bite. Then he chewed for a long, long time. "Tastes like rubber," he finally declared and went back to his fish sandwiches. Of course they tasted a bit like rubber here, too. "Maybe fast food isn't the way to try it," he added, somewhat kindly.

She had been pouting when he called it 'rubber'. Yeah, it tasted different at fast food places, compared to home cooking.

Then he added kinder words and she gave him a little smile. "Know what that means? Mama and I will just have to cook something for you, to let you try it!" she said happily.

Now... On top of homework, violin and guitar practice, target practice... she was going to have to cook too. Not that she minded. She liked keeping busy!

Camp Out
Ze'zee had to go to another concert out of town, which left Aurora in the care of the Deakon again. Not that she minded in the slightest. It was always great going over there. But this time, some one, some where, had decided on camping. Rory was extremely excited about this too. Her first camping trip!

They were out in the middle of the woods with tents set up for the knight and Chris' dad making a fire. Missy was going to make dinner over the fire - or on the propane grill that was brought.

Camp was fully set up, so -- "I'm going down to the river!" she called, throwing a towel over her shoulders. The two piece swim suit she had was already on.

"I'll go with her," Chris said, chasing after her with his towel over his shoulders. He stopped and glanced at his parents. "That okay?"

"I can handle a couple of tents, Chris," Tyler said dryly, amused by how good his kid had come out. "Go have some fun. Don't forget to check for snakes before Rory gets in, alright?"

"Will do, Dad."

Rory was blissfully unaware that the river could have snakes in it. She wasn't even running to the river, so Chris could easily catch up with her. "That was the last tent, wasn't it?" she asked, having help with setting up things too. "We could bring back some fire wood too!"

"Sure," he said, loping alongside her. "Wanna ride?" he asked. "You're wearin' those stupid flipflops and there's twigs and roots and stuff you could trip over."

He didn't have to ask twice. Rory hopped on to his back, wrapping her arms around him. "Thank you! It was getting annoying," she grinned at his ear. "Have you ever been camping before?"

"Once or twice," he admitted as he started walking again. "You?" he asked. She was light, so he didn't much notice her weight. He wouldn't have noticed at all if he hadn't been wearing his earring.

"Only if camping out in your back yard counts," she admitted, practically bubbling with excitement. She let him take her to the river and noted the way. It was just a path that seem to lead straight to it. "What all do you do? Other than swim and cook things over the fire."

"Well you fish, and you ride in boats, and you tell stories by the fire," he said as they reached the water. "I have to get in first," he told her. "To check for snakes." He started into the water, letting her pick if she wanted to stay on or slide off and wait. For a moment his gold eyes seemed to gleam in the reflection of the water, then he grunted. "No snakes."

She took their towels and tossed them on a bush with one hand, and kicked of her flip flops before he got into the water. She was content to stay on him. "You can find snakes just like that?" she asked him in surprise. This was something new about him she didn't know!

"Actually they tend to run when I get in," he admitted. "I scare them away."

"Pfft, ah well. I'm not complaining about that!" she said and slid off him now to go swimming into the river gleefully.

He moved in further, leaning back and floating lazily, his tail twitching underwater to propel him in any direction he wanted to go. "Hey," he said. "You okay with your mom being out of town again?"

"Yep, it's fine!" she said. It was true, as well. "She hates having to go out of town and she almost didn't. I told her to go," she told him, sounding as if this wasn't a bad thing at all. Then she went under the water only to reappear next to to him. "You don't mind me stayin, do you?"

"Nah, why should I?" he asked. "You're my best bud." Then he went under, playing like he was going to tug her under.

She laughed at that, and tried to keep away from him when she felt him brush against her legs or her smaller tail.

Best bud? Was that like.. that that dreaded 'let's just be friends' thing she read about? Naaa. Chris didn't even think like that! And she wasn't going to let that bother her. Not now, anyway!

He wrapped one huge hand around her ankle, tugging at it to see if she screamed. He was like the ultimate river monster, he thought cheerfully, and a bit childishly.

She yelped, but not the kind of terrified yelp or scream that one would have. It was Chris there, after all! She then tried to get her leg away from him, laughing all the same.

He tugged her under for a second, then came up, grinning evilly, still holding her ankle.

"Chriisss! That's my ankle!" she said, grinning at him and tugging again. She didn't tug as hard as she could, however.

"Yeah?" he asked, looking at it. "Gotta admit, it sure doesn't look like mine." He was teasing her shamelessly, and pulled up further, almost dunking her top half into the water.

She actually meeped with that moved, going under just a moment before coming sputtering back up. "Of course it's not yours! It's to small!" she told him, not worried at all. Anyone else who didn't know Chris might have been, however.

He let go, laughing at her before he picked her up by the waist. "Wanna fly?" he asked. "It'd be fun!"

"Yes!" she said with a grin, and a quick glance. Nothing but water to land in, after all. Camping was just AWESOME!

He tossed her, ever so gently, so she only flew a few feet upstream.

Landing in the river cut of her happy cry. Once she surfaced again, she swam back to him. "That was fun, do it again!" she told him.

He grinned and did it again, playing like that until his mother yelled for them to come to dinner. His father had gone fishing up stream and caught enough for all of them. He paused as he got out, waiting for Rory to climb on his back. In other words he was now resigned to being a pack pony.

She wrapped her towel around herself after getting out and picked up the flip flops. Then she jumped onto Chris' back again, happy to make use of her services. "Ya know, I didn't realize how hungry that made me," she commented. "And your mom is cooking fish, right?"

"Smells like it," he said. He made his way back to camp slowly, obviously thinking of something. "Hey, Rory?" he asked. "You know... there's a chance you'll grow before I do, right?"

"There is? But... aren't I younger?" she asked. There was something that had never occurred to her. Wisp grew then Chris grew and finally she grew. Wasn't that how it was going to work this time?

"It don't matter," he said, looking straight ahead. "It's cuz I'm gonna be so big. My body takes longer to grow, cuz it's doing so much of it, you know?" He wondered if that made sense to her. "And I think when I'm a teen I'm gonna be really big, you know? So a lot of work to grow to that."

"So.." she said after a moment. "You're just going to grow slow, because your body needs more time to prepare for a growth spert, right? And that means that when you're getting ready, you're going to be eating even more," she added as if that made since too.

Then she shrugged slightly. "But that'll be okay. I bet that when I'm a teen, I'll be as big as you! Maybe. But that would mean I couldn't ride..."

He snorted. "I could still carry you," he said. "But you might not want to, cuz I'll be a kid and you'll be a teenager, and you'll probly want to hang out with your teenager friends."

"Well, don't worry about that," she told him simply. "The only friend that I got that is a teenager is Antony." If one called him a friend, anyway. She obviously did.

Rory liked him though. Her mama said that he was the first other cabbage kid that she had met - but she had been in the cabbage herself at the time. "Besides, you were still my friend when you grew and I like you too much to not hang out with you. And besides that, I'm in your band, and I've worked hard to be in your band. I don't plan on giving that up."

"Yeah, okay," he said, not about to admit that he had needed that reassurance for some reason. He didn't want her to leave him. It was a scary thought. He had lost Wisp for a bit, and it was still something that gave him nightmares.

He would probably go insane if Rory left him behind.

"So, you don't have to worry about that one, Chris," she told him much softer, laying her cheek on his shoulder. Then she grinned again. "And think, if I'm a teenager and hanging around you, that makes you all the more cooler."

He laughed, shaking his head as they finally got back to the camp to eat. He waited until his parents had headed to their own tent to bring out a small box. "Um, I saw this and it made me think of you," he said, tossing her the box.

She blushed with pride that Chris actually -thought- of her and got her something. A grin was flashed at him before she opened up the box. In it was a pair of lady bug earrings, much like her necklace. Her face lit up, seeing them. "Oh wow!"

There was a sudden little gust of wind as Rory ran to him and hugged him. "Thank you!" She even kissed him on the cheek.

He blushed at the kiss, rubbing the back of his head. "It's not really anythin' special," he said. "Mom just took me shoppin' and I saw those and--"

"Says you," she told him, looking at them again. "They're great! And they go with the necklace, so I can wear them like a set," she told him honestly. Then saved him further embarrassment. "Hey, think we can make sโ€™mores over the fire?"

His eyes lit up. "S'mores sound good to me," he said as he headed for the supplies. "Then bed," he added. "I wanna go fishing tomorrow morning."

Horse with No Name
"Sissyyyy," Kashmira whined, tugging at Rhye's short leg. "I wanna ride him now!" They were outside the local grocery store, riding on the old mechanical horse that stood in front. Every time the horse stopped Dyer would pick the one riding off and replace her with her twin. But this ride seemed to be going on longer than usual and Kash was getting impatient.

Dyer, being a typical father, was reading a case study only a few feet away, ignorant of the fight that was about to break out.

"It not done yet! I still get to ride!" Rhye replied, stubbornly holding on to the horse. This was fun! Or would be in Kash didn't keep nagging at her. That ruined the whole thing and irritated her. "Dah-deeeee, sissy's being mean!" She pouted greatly about this fact too.

"But this is takin' too long!" Kash complained.

"Wait your turn, Mira," Dyer said, not even glancing up. He heard no screams of pain, after all, so all was well according to his logic. Besides, verbal arguments meant that they would grow up to be good lawyers in the future.

Rhye sat up high on her seat, pleased that she won the argument. Kash was just being impatient!

Aurora hesitated at the door of the store, seeing Dyer. She remembered him from the music shop. And there were two little ones around the pony that he seemed to be watching. She grinned. "Hey! These yours?" she asked, walking towards them.

He finally looked up from his work and grinned, that sharp grin of his. "Hello, Rory, it's good to see you again. Yes, these are the girls, Kashmira and Rhye. Rhye, Mira, this is Rory. You're going to be going to school with her soon."

Kashmira went silent, looking up at the older girl in awe. She was so much bigger than she was! Slowly she raised a hand, waving at her before moving closer to the horse.

Rory, being aware of her bigness to the two little ones, crouched down. "I'm Aurora," she told them. "It's nice to meet the two of you finally," she told them. Twins! Who knew the two cabbages would be twins?? And they were cute!

Rhye was silent now too, seeing the new girl. The thrill of being on the horse was lost too. Just in time, the horse stopped it's moving.

It must have been strange to have two pairs of identical red eyes focused on her with such grave attention, but Kashmira didn't thing of that. She just hugged her sister's leg, feeling shy. "I'm Kashmira," she said, flushing slightly and unknowingly throwing flirty into her expression as she gave a little smile.

"I'm Rhye," her sister said, lacking the unknowing flirt in her own tone. She had a bit more frankness, however. Like stating a fact that she was Rhye and that one shouldn't make more out of that statement than what was there.

And she wanted down. In moments like this, she didn't want to be even this far from her sister. So she brought her other leg around and slipped off the still horse. Then took her sister's arm, holding on to that too.

Lord they were so cute! Rory wished Chris was here, so that he could see them too. He might startle them, but they'd get over it as soon as they learned they could climb all over him. "What are you two up too?" she asked them.

"Horsie," Kash said, pointing at the horse behind them. "He don't got no name," she added with a nod as she hugged her sister back. Now that they were closer she felt more bold. "Is like the song!"

Dyer tried not to laugh, knowing that his and his wife's music had already affected the little girls.

"Horse with no name, huh?" Rory asked with a grin. Their eyes were so red! It was like looking into a pool or red. "Hey, isn't your mama is around here?"

"She's in the store," Rhye answered, keeping hold of Kash. She was confident in the fact nothing was going to happen. Daddy was just over there and if he thought they shouldn't be taking to the older person, then he'd stop it. Her red eyes studied the other girl bluntly.

"Do you want to meet a friend of mine? He should be out here soon with him mom. We're getting food for our camping trip," Rory told them.

Another new person? Kash looked up at their daddy, earning an encouraging nod and a smile, so she figured he knew who the friend was, too. "Okay," she said as the door slid open behind them.

"I don't like the saddle bags," two voices said at once, sounding irritable. "It's bad enough I get used as a horse--" Then he stopped as Kash turned to look at him, blinking his gold eyes twice.

Kashmira just stared at the big boy, her jaw dropping open in shock. He was-- "Ginormous!" she said, pointing at him.

Her word 'Ginormous' and the pointing were all mimic in time by Rhye. She was also gaping.

Rory grinned. "This is Christian. He's my friend," she said, still crouched on the ground. "Chris, this is Kashmira and Rhye. Dyer's girls."

He promptly sat down, making his mother roll her eyes. "At least move away from the door, Chris," she said, trying not to laugh. The sitting was to make him look smaller, but the little girl in green didn't look too traumatized as she tugged her sister towards Chris.

She stopped, looking up at the boy seriously, pouting slightly. Then she started walking around him, her eyes traveling over every inch of him. Chris tugged at the collar of his shirt, wondering what she was doing.

"I dunno," she finally told her sister, shrugging.

Rhye was doing the same thing, studying him over with a critical eye. At her sister's statement, she shrugged back. "We could," she answered simply. "Wanna?"

Rory was just smiling to herself. Chris was always funny with new people.

"I ask," Kash agreed, turning to Missy. "Where you put quarter at?" she asked, ever so seriously. She pulled out her quarter, holding it up to the redheaded woman.

"Um, what?" Missy asked.

"We want ride," Kash said, pointing up at Chris. "Is MUCH better than no name horsie."

Rory couldn't stop laughing at that statement. It was a good thing she was already close to theground to begin with!

Rhye gave her a confused look before turning back to Missy and Chris. "But.. both of us could fit!"

"But Chris isn't a ride!" Rory said, trying not to laugh now and failing.

Kash stepped in front of Chris, holding up quarter. "We ride?" she asked, determinedly ignoring the "not a ride" statement. He was the most awesome ride she had ever seen and she wanted to ride him!

"Um, uh," he said. "Fine," he said with a sigh. "But I don't need the quarter." Then he leaned forward, so they could climb on. Kash squealed happily and grabbed onto his horn, pulling herself up on his back.

Rhye also squealed in joy and grabbed the other horn, hauling herself up on to Chris' back as well. Then she beamed at Kash and wrapped her other arm around her.

Chis was so nice. But it would be Chris if he wasn't nice! Rory got up and took the bags away, so that the kids would have more room. Then she stepped next to Missy's side.

"You hold on tight, okay?" Chris said, wondering why he was such a sucker for cute girls. Maybe it was the tails, he thought as one furry tail wrapped under his arm to hold on. He felt a sense of kinship with tailed kids.

"Go! Go! Go!" Kash said, rocking wildly to try and urge him forward.

"Goooo!" Rhye said, also with her tail wrapped around him.

About that time, Creola stepped out with her bag. She saw her two girls on the much bigger boy - whom she remembered him. "What's goin' on?" she asked after a moment.

"Mommy! We got a ride!" Rhye said happily.

Chris finally started walking, back and forth in front of the store, his tail swishing behind him to make it seem more like riding an animal. They were so little that he didn't dare go faster than a slight trot.

"He's a good kid," Dyer said, watching them with a hint of amusement. Missy smiled at that statement.

"He's such a sweetie," she said. "But I do believe he's also doing it because he's a sucker for pretty girls."

"You'd be amazed how many girls hang around him," Rory added, not sounding bothered by that.

Creola relaxed now and smiled at Missy. "Ah'm Creola," she introduced. "An' that's Dyer." Her arms held bags in them, so she couldn't offer her hand.

"And those two little dolls riding my son are yours?" Missy asked, shaking the hand that Dyer offered. "They're adorable! Do they go to school yet?"

"Not yet," Dyer admitted. "We're planning on waiting until they're older to start them in school. Creola's at home during the day, and that lets them bond with their mother better."

"Oh, I wish I could have done that," Missy said. "I'm a jazzorcize teacher at an all women gym called Curvables, and my husband, Tyler, is the janitor at Liberty."

"When they go to school, Ah'm gonna be so bored," Creola admitted. Yes, she was lucky to be able to stay at home with them, but that was going to end some time. "Dyer's a lawyer workin here," she added, as if to explain why she could stay at home and take care of the kids.

"Faster faster!" Rhye cheered, enjoying herself.

"Nuh uh," he said. "You might fall off, then I'd feel guilty."

"Awwww," Kash complained. "Chris fun ride!" she added, as if that would fix the problem of him feeling guilty. He laughed and headed back to the others.

"Rides over," he said, crouching down so they could get off.

"Awww..." Rhye pouted but started so slide off as well. "Was fun!" she then told him, beamingly.

Kash leaned forward and kissed the back of his head. "Thank you!" she said before slipping off as well and rushing to her mom. "Mommy, Mommy, we got to ride the best ride ever!!"

Chris was bright purple.

Arpeggios: Chris meets Devi in the music room while trying to teach himself how to sing.

The Older Woman
"You'll be okay?" Tyler asked Chris as they pulled to a stop in front of Ze'zee's home. "Remember, Mom's got her cell--"

"I'm spending the night with Rory, Dad," Chris said. "It's the usual thing. Nothing's going to happen. Heck, even if the house caught on fire I'd still be alright."

"Good point," Tyler drawled. "Well go on. I'll be back to pick you up tomorrow. Around lunch or so, maybe a little earlier."

Chris grabbed his bag, slinging it over his shoulder before he climbed out of the car and headed for the front door of the house. His parents needed some alone time, which was fine with him. He stopped and rang the doorbell, sitting down to wait for someone to come to the door.

Chris spending the night had been prearranged. Unfortunately, or fortunately, something happened between when it happened to now. Aurora grew into a teenager. Now Zee felt that her daughter was old enough that she could watch Chris. There had been an emergency meeting for the orchestra that she had to go too.

So, the one to open the door was Rory. "Um, hey Chris!" she said, giving him a sheepish grin.

He paused, blinking, but his dad had already driven away once he saw the door open, so he couldn't go back and ask what in the hell he was supposed to do in this case. "You grew," he said finally, stupidly. She was taller than him now, when he was on all fours.

"Yeah... Um, want him to come back and get you? Mom had to take off too," she said, yet still stepped aside so he could enter. "I mean, I don't blame you for thinking this really, really odd and all."

Wow... she could totally look him in the eye without having to look up now! That was surprisingly cool.

"No, um, I mean... you're pretty," he said finally. "It's okay. It's not like I didn't see this coming. Um, can I come in?" So it had happened. He was a little kid compared to her. And she was his babysitter.

"Of course you can!" she said, letting him in with a grin. He thought she was pretty? Good! At least he wasn't that freaked out about her growing. But then, they had talked about it at the camping trip. "And I really thinking that can't ride on your back any more," she added, a bit remorsefully.

He walked in, looking around as if expecting everything else to have changed as well. "I could still lift you," he said, not thinking about it. "So your mom's not here?"

"There was some kinda emergency meeting, or something like that. She said she'd be back later," she said with a shrug, shutting the door behind him. Then she headed into the kitchen. "We can order pizza for dinner, too," she added.

"Veggie lovers?" he asked as he followed her. She looked good. Like those girls in magazines. She was cute and smelled good, and was older--

Dammit, he was going to be sooo irritated when Antony saw her.

"You still don't wanna try meats, huh?" she asked him. She was -so- getting a pepperoni for herself. And thoughts of seeing Antony like this hadn't even hit her yet. It was bound to happen, and he wouldn't have a reason to be irritated at her age, any more! He'd probably find some other reason, however.

"Um, I was thinking about having another band practice soon," he said as he watched her call the pizza place. "But you're gonna stand out now, and we're still kids while you're--"

"Ah, crap..." she replied, looking irritated about this. "You're right, I am going to be big, bigger than you, now. Well, maybe I should just go in the back? They it wont be so noticeable."

"I have to admit something," he said slowly. "I still haven't figured out how to sing right."

"What do you mean you haven't figured out how to sing right?" she asked, blinking at him. Then she took a seat at the kitchen table, leaning her elbows on it, and her chin in her hands as she waited for the answer. "You've always been able to sing well."

"Well is one thing, right is another," he said, sitting at the table and looking down. "I tried. I went in and tried using the piano, but my two voices couldn't ever sing the same note. I can't sing right. Not like they teach you to."

"Sing for me?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. It was as if she thought he had changed when she grew. Or maybe her hearing had changed?

"I don't know," he muttered. "I feel stupid. It was my idea, you know?"

She rolled her eyes at this. "Sing for me. Let me hear the way you feel the most comfortable singing. If it's good, then it's not you. You have two voices and singing lessons are made for people with one voice," she told him.

"Fiiiineee," he said. "But only a little bit." He felt more self conscious when singing for her now. She was a teenager. A grown woman! But he opened his mouth, starting to sing one of his favorite Hendrix songs.

"Remember, singing like you want too. And don't be nervous!" she told him, seeing and hearing that in his voice.

He stopped, making an irritated face, then tried again, his voice stronger this time.

"Oh, remember the mocking bird, my baby bun
He used to sing for his supper, baby
Yes he used to sing for his supper, babe
He used to sing so sweet
Since my baby left me he ain't sang for two long days

Oh, remember the blue-birds and the honey bees,
They used to sing for sunshine
They used to sing for the flowers
They used to sing so sweet
But since my baby left me they ain't sang in two long days

Hey pretty baby, come on back to me
Make ev'ry body as happy as can be

So, baby, if you'll please come home again you know I'll
Kiss you for my supper,
You know I'll kiss you for my dinner, yeah!
But, ah, if you don't come back you know I'll have to
Starve to death
'Cus I ain't had one kiss all day now."

And suddenly the words made a lot more sense to him. He flushed, stopping abruptly.

She smirked at him now. "See? You sing perfectly fine! Heck, you sing more than fine. No body here on Gaia sings like you do!" As far as she knew, anyway.

"Oh," he said. "It's not too bad?"

"Not at all," she told him seriously.

"Okay," he said. "Is the pizza here yet?" he asked, because suddenly the words "Kiss you" and Rory were seen in the same sentence and he didn't know what to think about it.

He was too young for her now. She probably realized he was just a kid.

She glanced at the clock, not having a clue what was going through his mind. If so, she'd enjoy it. "Na, not yet. It should be here in a few more minutes. So, what do you want to do tonight? Did you bring your Wii with you this time?" she asked him curiously.

Then got up to get them some drinks.

"Oh, yeah, yeah I did!" he said. grasping at the subject. "We can play Mario games after pizza, alright?"

"Good!" she said happily. "And I brought out my game cube, so we can play some good old Mario Cart," she told him. Then looked sheepish a moment. "Um, you don't think my growing is a bad thing, do you?"

"No!" he said, just as the doorbell rang. "That's probably the pizza guy," he said.

"I'll get it," she said, grabbing the money and heading for the front door. She couldn't help but grin at his reaction. It was more of a reaction when she had changed to being a child. Seriously, being a teen was starting out awesome!

She then opened the door. "Six pizza's, right?" she asked.

"Yeah, for um--" The pizza guy stopped, staring at her in shock before grinning. "Helllooooo there, um, my name is Jake--"

Then a demonic looking guy peered around her, his eyes glowing in the evening light. And he growled.

"Pizza! Here!" Jake said, shoving the pizza over and racing away.

She looked at the pizza boxes in shock. "So.. the pizza's free right??" she called out to the man who was running for his life. Then she went back in. "Pizza's here!" she told Chris with a grin.

He took it from her. "He didn't bug you, did he?" he asked as he carried them in one hand back to the table and put them on top. "I mean, he was kind of... sleazy."

"Well, he was odd," she told him, following him into the kitchen. "I've never had a pizza guy introduce himself to me before." Then she went to find the pepperoni pizzas. She separated the veggie lovers out for him, as well.

"He was--" He stopped, shaking his head. "Yeah, odd," he said simply before digging in.

The Older Woman 2
Rory sat on the floor, leaning up against the couch. There were pizza boxes around them from their dinner. At the moment, it was movie time. Her mom still hadn't returned from her meeting and it was dark now. But she wasn't worried at all. It was a change from how she would have been, if she was still little.

Chris was laid out on the couch behind her, covering almost all of it with his big body. His chest was behind her head and he was watching the movie over her shoulder. Every once in a while he would make a dry comment about the plot, or drink another pop. He had gotten over the fact that she was older than him rather quickly, actually.

She hadn't changed in anything but size, after all.

Chris being more relaxed made her feel even better. "So what do you want to watch after this? Another cheesy movie? I got Godzilla!" she told him, fully enjoying herself.

"Sure," he said, finishing off another pop. "Do you got the one with Mothra? And those tiny twin chicks that sing? That's my favorite one."

"Mmmm," she crawled over to the DVD cases, pulling out the one with Mathra in it after a moment. "Yep! Got it here." Then she looked back at him with a grin. "You just like the twins that sing, don't you?"

"I don't know why," he admitted. "But twins are cute." They were, too. He idly wondered if the two white haired twins had grown yet. It would be fun going to school with them... as long as they didn't try and ride him everywhere, that was.

She wrinkled her nose at him for that comment and went to put the movie in. "Ya know, I think I should feel jealous," she said out loud.

And she was, frankly.

"Huh?" he asked. "Because I got more coke than you did? I got one left--" he dug through the pile of trash, pulling out the last of his cokes and offering it to her. That was what he thought jealousy was about. Food was important, after all!

She blinked at him, then lifted a brow and didn't answer him. Instead, she came back to her spot against the couch and let the movie play. She took the pop from him then. "I'll take it, though," she told him, flashing a grin.

He sighed, relaxing now that she wasn't mad anymore. But it was stuck in his head. Jealous? Why was she jealous? It didn't seem to be because of the coke... "Girls are confusing," he finally decided aloud.

"Yep, we are," she said, happily letting him be confused. Yeah, she was still jealous. It wasn't a very nice feel, and it was odd, too.

"Hey," he said after a moment. "Since you're older I should sleep out here, right?"

"Huh? Oh, well, we can camp out here, ya know?" she said, now being distracted. "I could bring my sleeping bag out here." That thought had never crossed her mind.

"Nuh uh," he said. "It's not right for a guy and a girl to sleep in the same room if they're not married." He thought. Ever since his father and he had had the "Talk" he hadn't been sure what to think, actually. Especially since he had never thought of Rory as... well... a girl before.

"Oh," she sighed, looking at him sadly. "So, no more camp outs?"

"Camping's different," he said, more because he wanted it to be. "There's a wall there, right?" he added. "I mean, you get one room and I get the other, and--"

He felt like such a stupid kid now.

"So it's more like being right next door," she replied, liking that logic as well. "But... When you grow, you're going to be so much bigger, so... you'll need your own tent." And in her mind it was because he would need the room. Even if she still wanted to share the space with him.

Growing up was starting to suck.

"Yeah," he said. "I don't want to get that big," he added quietly, right next to her ear. There was a touch of mourning in his voice. "I don't want to grow up."

".... Maybe we could find a bigger tent?" she offered, turning her head to look at him. It didn't help that they were face to face now, with him being on the couch. Something struck her then, and she leaned forward, giving him a little kiss on the lips.

He blinked. Then he blinked again. Then his face went bright purple as he flushed and he started to stammer. "Ro--Ro--Rory--"

"S-sorry. I shouldn't have done that, huh? Sorry," she said, her face burning bright red now. Idiot! That was one too many romance movie for her! (Besides, she liked action better, but the romance ones intrigued her currently.)

"Umm..." she started to get up then, to head for the kitchen and curse herself. Yes, she was also running away in embarrassment.

He didn't know what to do, so he stayed there, his fingers lightly brushing his lips. That had been his first kiss on the lips.

Now what was he supposed to do?

Pop corn. They were watching a movie, they needed pop corn. Rory put the bag in the microwave and turned it on. Okay, so that had been her first kiss-on-the-lips-giving. And probably the most forward she had ever been with Chris! But.. but he had looked so sad and she wanted to do something about.

She should just pretend it didn't happen, that was it. Armed with her pop corn and some bowls, she headed back out into the living room. "Want some pop corn?"

"Yeah," he said a bit jerkily. "Popcorn. Popcorn is good." He reached for the bowl.

She felt her cheeks burn again as she handed him the bowl. Then she took her seat. At least her back was to him!

"Um..." He hesitated. "That was my first real kiss, so... I'm kinda glad it was you."

She jerked, then gave him a sheepish grin. "Um, your welcome. That was my first time giving such a kiss..."

He hesitated again, then leaned down quickly, pecking her on the cheek before shoving a handful of popcorn in his mouth and pretending like it never happened.

She grinned at this, sitting back against the couch to watch the movie. That right there had told her that he liked her! Which was awesome. Being a teenager wasn't so bad after all!

A Cooking Exorcise
"Thank you, ladies, you've done a wonderful job, as always," Pete said as the older ladies in their little club filed out with treats in hand. "I'm sure Christian has benefited greatly today."

The laugh that got was honest and loud. It was obvious what he was talking about by the boy sitting in the kitchen munching down cookies. He lifted a huge hand and waved as they left, his mouth too full to say goodbye properly. He loved his weekly exorcisms.

Pete snorted after the last one was gone, shaking his head slightly. "You would think your grandmother would be tired of this by now," he said with a sigh.

The line of people was what got her attention as she neared the building. Aurora had gone looking for Chris, to tell him about Polly. It was Saturday, though, and at this time on Saturdays, he could only be found here. Not that Rory had ever visited him during his weekly exorcism. She didn't even know what the point of the exorcisms were!

Well, other than for him to eat. The boy was still a living food compactor. She waved that mental thought off, peeking into the room. "Hey, um, is Chris around still?" she asked.

"He's in here attending one of my excellent lectures--" Pete started out, only to have Chris interrupt.

"It's baking day," he said. "C'mon in, Rory!"

She grinned at Chris' invite and stepped in. "Baking day? Did you save anything, or did I miss it all?" she asked him. Then she stopped in front of Pete, holding out a hand. "I'm Aurora, Chris' friend."

"Ah, I'm Father Higgins," Pete said, shaking her hand. "Nice to meet you, as well. We actually have a club come on these days, they do cooking, or arts and crafts. Christian's a bit of a mascot now, it seems."

"He's got that effect on people," Rory said with a grin, then she went to where Chris was, taking a seat next to him. She gave him a good poke. "So? Did you eat it all? Cuz if not, I want some!"

It might have been odd to others for her to ask him for some of his food, but this was what she did. Besides, she didn't know what she was supposed to do here, but she didn't really want to be still and quiet, or to try to hide behind Chris. It showed how much she had changed from when she was a baby.

He held up the bag of cookies reluctantly, offering her some. It was a sign of true friendship, coming from a guy as stomach oriented as himself. "Father Higgins is supposed to be exorcising me," he told her. "But it got in the way of the Golden Heirs, so we wound up staying with them, instead."

"What can I say? Holy Water is hard to come by," Pete said, sitting down on one of the stools and picking up a left over cookie from the bar. "Besides, once they got past the face they found that Chris is quite useful for things. Especially lifting."

"And moving those heavy things too, I'm sure," Rory said, taking a cookie from Chris with a smile. Then she looked at the priest, tilting her head. "Um, what -is- and exorcism, anyway?" She had never asked before but as it was the topic of the day, she wanted to know now.

"Well," he said slowly, wondering how to explain it.

"Remember when Antony was possessed?" Chris asked. "An exorcism is where a priest calls on God to get the demon out. Except he never got around to doing that for Antony--"

"Because it was a ghost's spirit, not a demon, and his final wish was fulfilled before I had to," Pete agreed.

"Oh, so -thatโ€™s- what it does!" she replied, nodding in understanding. After knowing Antony and how he wasn't himself, it made a lot of sense. Then she gave Chris a look. "But you don't have anything like that wrong with you. Heck, I don't think something like that -could- do that to you." He was hardheaded, after all.

"I think Gramma is worried about my immortal soul," Chris said. "But I don't mind. I get cookies."

"I figured you were in for it just for the food," Rory said, shaking her head. She started munching on her own cookie.

"Actually," Pete said. "Chris is only supposed to come in once a month for a... check-up, so to say, but he's taken quite a shine to the Golden Heirs--"

"And their cookies," Chris added shamelessly.

"So he's taken to coming once a week."

She gave Father Higgins an amused look. "This is Chris, of course he's going for the cookies," she said. "But they make -really good- cookies," she added, finishing off her cookie.

"So what did you come here for, anyway?" Chris asked, eyeing her since she was most likely going to try and steal more of his cookies if given the chance.

She could have, she was fast enough too but the fact that she wasn't was something she didn't tell him. For a moment, she had to remember why she had come over, since it wasn't just to hang out like normal. "Right, um, it's about Polly," she said and slumped slightly. "I think she wants to run away, on a treasure hunt. Want to go with her?"

"Absolutely," he said without even a second of hesitation. "Father, think you could tell my parents? And Rory's? Knowing Polly she's probably already packed and ready to go."

"If we're going to the island, we're going to have to pack too, you know," Rory said as that responsible thing showed its face again. "And tents for camping and things like that. I could probably run back and forth for them--"

"I'll go see if I can catch Polly, then," Chris said, heading out the door.

"But your parents--" Pete sighed, shaking his head. It was just a waste of time. And he didn't have to worry about their safety, either, so why argue? He pulled out his cell phone to make the calls.

"Right," Rory said and took off for the packing. She knew where they were and where they were going, after all. It shouldn't be too hard to find them.

The Hunt
After heading back to grab what would more than like be neaded: a large tent, sleeping bags, matches and other nick-nacks that one took camping without taking a day to pack, Aurora headed for the door way to the island. Chris more than likely had gotten a hold of Tock and both would be heading there, probably with Polly. Well, she didn't want to miss out.

But when she got to the invisible door she saw Tock and Chris, but no Polly. It was oddly quiet between them and they seemed to just be staring at each other. It was the kinda staring at eachother that made her think one was going to do something to the other, and each knew it.

She was puzzled. "Hey guys! I got the camping things," Rory said, going up to them with the large bag of supplies. She seemed to have no problems carrying it.

Chris jerked first, looking over at Rory. "We're going," he told her before walking through the hole in the wall. His tail disappeared last and Tock finally spoke.

"I'm coming with you," the teenage gator man said. "But ladies first."

"Rory!"

The shopping mall crowds, none of whom were noticing anything out of the ordinary, parted as Wisp Darnell pushed her way through them; she wrapped her arm around Rory's arm, looking bewildered and woebegone, looking from the wall back to Rory with one distracted look at the teenage gator-man before looking back at Rory again. She seemed a little out of breath. "I saw you from the other side of the market," she said, a few bags hanging off one arm, "what's happening, Rory?! OMG please don't think I'm a bad friend, I love you and the wall just ate Chris, what."

She added a vague, "Hi," to Tock, which was accompanied by a slightly dimpled grin, but then she looked back at Aurora.

It took Rory half a moment to regester just who she was talking too, then her eyes widened in shock. "WISP! Look at you! You grew too!" she cheered, hugging her friend suddenly. She was now completely distracted from what they were supposed to be doing.

And she felt like the bad friend, having not gone to see one of her two best friends when she got older. She grinned sheepishly. "You are -not- a bad friend! Ever. Who ever said that was stupid." Then she took a breath. "You remember our younger friend, Polly? Well, she wanted to go off on a treasure hunt, back on the island where she lived with this guy," she pointed at the gator-man. "That's Tock, by the way. Tock, this is Wisp. Anyway, so, we can't let her go alone, since she's still little and--"

She stopped, remembering something and looked at Tock. "Where's Polly, anyway?"

"She's fine," Tock said. "She grew up on this island, you know. We could just let Chris hunt her and the boys down while the three of us get to know each--"

Chris's head came through the wall. "What's taking so long?" he demanded irritably. Then he looked at Tock, his gold eyes narrowed dangerously, as if he knew what the teen gator man had been doing already.

Wisp had faceplanted accidentally in Aurora's boobs, and had gotten the giggles for it. They untangled as they swapped a superheroine-ly high-five. "I know Polly, she's the cute redheaded kid," she exclaimed. "That's so superhero of you! That's rad. You're upholding to serve and protect, Ror."

She hugged her again emphatically before untangling. "How long are you guys going to be gone?" she said, "I'm so sad, I want to give you a million makeovers and go bikini-shopping with you, because WOW look at your boobs, I think they're bigger than Rel's and Rel has like, mammoth boobs -- Chris, you gotta look after Rory and Polly while you're there, okay?

"And Tock," she added, and she winked at him.

"Mammoth boobs?" Rory repeated, looking down at herself. She couldn't be that big! She shrugged if off quickly however, since it wasn't really her boobs that were the mammoth ones, and looked back a Wisp with a pout. "You mean, you don't want to come with us, running through the jungle?" she asked.

Then in a conspiratorial way, since she saw the winks thrown at Tock, she leaned down to whisper in her friend's ear: "Camping. One tent. If you don't come, I'll be abandoned. Do you really want that?" She nudged her friend.

"Oh," said her friend, "I want to come so hard!"

For some reason, Wisp's face fell, and she took Rory's hands in her own much smaller ones. "But oh man," she said dolefully, "I have a date, Ror. I have a date with NACHO GARCIA. Isn't that like the coolest thing ever in the whole entire world? What if I miss it? It's on Friday. Do you think we'll be done before Friday? What if we're not done before Friday? I don't want to cut anything short and I was planning on dyeing my hair and, omg, Nacho date, right?"

Rory's face was set and she did the math: date plus hair dye, plus shopping. It was -so hard- to miss the shopping! And she knew just how bad Wisp wanted that date. Then, unexpectedly, she grinned. "Tell you want, if we are not done by Friday morning, then I will run you right back to the door, and we will go shopping for your date and get your hair dyed and everything! Then I'll come back to continue the hunt."

"And if we are done by then... I'll do the shopping thing with you anyway!" she promised. "Does that sound good? And think of the adventure you could tell him about!"

They were totally ignoring the face that the boys were glaring at each other while they had girl-talk.

Wisp laughed out loud at that, and she playfully punched Aurora's arm. "LOL, like I want to talk," she said, which left Aurora to make up her own mind about exactly what the smaller blonde girl wanted to do on a date. It might've been something perfectly innocent. "We're going to go see a movie. Or something. Antony organised it. I owe him, like, for ever, right? But just let me text Mom and Jace and Iree, tell them where I'll be, you know? Hang on a sec."

She pulled her cellphone out of her pocket, immediately tapping out a message. "I hope Mom doesn't mind me missing the school," she said, "it's in the service of superherohood."

Rory grinned, not about to make a comment on that. You never knew! Chris, sadly, was still to small, so... that sucked. He's grow, though, when his body was ready too!

The fact that they were skipping, she left alone. She had gone to school diligently till this stage, it was like she earned time off for good behavior, or something like that. Then, while her friend was texting away, she finally looked at the boys. They were still glaring. She put a hand on her hip. "So, who's going to help carry these things? They're not light."

"It's cool," said Wisp, still tapping, lifting the bags up and down without looking at them. "I'm tough."

"I'll get it," they both said at the same time, only to glower at each other in response. Dammit, Rory was HIS, Chris thought, jealous for real for the first time in his life, even though he wasn't thinking it through.

On the other hand, Tock was thinking that a teenage girl shouldn't be stuck with what was, despite his size, still a kid. So--wait--hot damn, TWO of them! He turned his dangerously toothy grin on Wisp. "You have anything you want to bring? I can carry it."

Little greenish sparkles momentarily danced their way around Wisp's head before she waved them away, giving a broad grin to Tock; it made the small blue star on her cheek crinkle a little, and she held out one of the bags. "Wow, you're really nice, I don't have much," she said, "good thing I brought my knapsack, right? Done!"

The message was over; obviously Wisp thought it better to not have an argument, and simply leave notice that she was going. "Okay, let's do it to it," she announced.

Rory forked over half her things to Chris. He was still a hell of a lot stronger, so she had the back pack of nick-nacks while handing off the heavier things to him. Having Chris jealous was... Interesting! She was glad, though, that Wisp would be around. She wasn't sure just how much of that she was going to be able to stand.

Thank God he wasn't a teenager yet! Visions of fights danced in her head. There would be property damage for sure, if Chris and Tock had an all out fight. Then she looked back at Wisp. "And now we go through the magic door," she said and stepped through the wall where the rest of Chris waited.

"And might I welcome all of you to my home island," Tock said as he stepped in last, waiting for the others to enter. "Home. Which is where I am the non acting captain of a pirate crew to the west of here."

Wisp put one hand up to squint at where he'd indicated, absolutely delighted with the surroundings; she had a grin on her face that stretched nearly from ear to ear. "But where's Polly?" she said. "Did she go off already? Are we the suckiest babysitters or something?"

It was kind of a worry.

"Apparently she started the treasure hunt without us," Rory drawled slightly. Then she looked to Tock again. He let Polly go off without even waiting for them to get there. Eesh! Even if she grew up there, she had Tock looking out for her! "Do you have any idea where she's headed? A direction, maybe?"

What she didn't realize was that Polly wasn't alone.

"You really think he has a say in what Polly's doing right now?" Chris demanded darkly. "He pissed her off. She ran away from home and now he's chasing her down. But he's gotten distracted by a couple of pretty faces, haven't you, Tock?"

"I said already," Tock snarled. "She grew up here. The only ones that'll have trouble on the island are you three!"

"I wouldn't say that," said Wisp, and the grin was still on her face. She was looking around at the jewel-bright colours of Neverland like a satisfied cat; she patted her pouch of Star Sprinkles to make sure it was still there, and the Rainbow of Light at her belt, and looked more and more smug. "You might not know this, but I'm actually a fully-fledged awesome superhero, and Chris and Rory are my sidekicks, right? This is rad chillies. So long as she's safe, I'm cool with that."

Rory rolled her eyes. "Eesh, I'm tough! Not like Chris, but I'm more resilient that others," she voiced. It was something she had noticed while in school, comparing herself to other kids. When she fell hard, her knees usually didn't get scrapped and bloody, nor did other parts of her. Chris probably hadn't realized this, and if he had, it probably didn't matter to him. She was still a girl.

"And I've been camping before, yatta yatta, stuff like that. I'm not little," she added, giving both boys a serious look.

Tock looked at Chris, opened his mouth, then snapped it shut, since obviously there wasn't going to be any problem with him being in the jungle. "Fine," he muttered. He turned, looking out at the trees and finally showing his worry. His little girl, who had only just grown, was out there with--with two idiot boys that knew the place, but were hut brats nonetheless.

"Dammit, she just grew the other day," he muttered, unaware it was aloud.

"Is she like your little sister or something, Tock?" said the blonde superheroine-apparent among them, kneeling down by a particularly vivid flower and leeching the colour out of it. "That's really cute. I kind of have a little sister -- well, Jace is now like, major league little compared to me. I wouldn't worry about HER, though."

Tock looked at her blankly, the concept of Polly being his sister so foreign that he couldn't come up with a reply.

"He's raising her," Chris said, looking around and picking a direction at random to go. He had no idea where the kids were, but there were a couple of broken limbs this way. "Like a dad. Cept he's younger."

"I'm her captain, not her dad," Tock muttered finally, although secretly the "dad" word worked fine for both of them.

"Guardian, dad, captain, call it what you will, but you are still like her parent. You look out for her and stuff," Rory said even if he knew that, following Chris. He was actually going some place and she was tried of just standing around. They did have a dead line, after all.

Then she looked at Wisp. "I wouldn't be worried about Jace being anywhere alone. With those metal legs of hers, all she had to do is kick something, and she'd rule," she commented with a grin.

Wisp's laughter was bright and ringing. "True, man, dat," she said, following after the others and tucking some incredibly orange star sprinkles into her pack. Wisp had a bad tendency towards weird, weird dialects. "OMG, she's been in such a bad mood lately, though -- ever since me and Iree grew. I think she feels left out, you know? I mean, I remember when I grew and Chris didn't, when we were little, and I was dev-a-stat-ed."

"I still haven't grown," Chris called over his shoulder. "Seems to be a new habit of being stuck a stage younger than you two."

"Wait... he's as old as you two?" Tock asked, distracted. They were heading for the mountain, but it was as good a starting place as any, he figured. What with the treasure hunt.

"Older than Rory," Chris muttered irritably.

"Yep, I'm the youngest out of them," Rory echoed. "But for some reason, I grew first this time," she shrugged it off, moving aside a branch as she walked on. Good thing her shoes were nice and broke in. There was going to be a lot of walking to do.

"And Jace is probably mad because everyone's going before her," she added then, looking back at Wisp.

"Yeah," said Wisp, "she doesn't like being left behind, and I guess it's like, even harder when me and Iree are both grown up and Iggy and Antony are both grown up, it's like Chris is the only one left -- does she talk to you about it, Chris? Because she's been like, out of the house 24-7."

Chris blinked. "Antony?" he finally asked. "What does Jace have to do with Antony?"

"Dude, Jace and Antony have been friends since the crib," said Wisp, puzzledly. "He's Mom's pet -- and, well, friends probably isn't right, more like rivals, though I think only Jace is like 'I am your rival!' and Antony is like 'uh okay.' They're always arguing and stuff. But they argue so much they're, like, pals."

"I'm a witness to that, too," Rory pipped in. "When he was giving those self defense things? Jace came in to challenge him and all. So yeah, I'd say they're rival-friends."

Chris snorted. "How anyone can be friends with that stuck up b*****d, I got no clue." Obviously he was still in a bad mood. "And you two," he added. "Stay away from that jerk, he's probably dating three girls already. If anyone could keep it organized, he could."

"Did anyone happen to actually SEE the map that Polly has?" Tock asked, bored with talk of people he didn't know and could care less about.

"Actually," Rory said, slowing down a moment as she really thought back to that day. "I did. She showed me the map for a moment, when she held it up to the sun. From what I remember..."

She crouched down and cleared a place on the jungle floor from the twigs and leaves and things that were there. Then took a twig and drew what she remembered of the map. Course, it wasn't very good. She didn't really study it. But it might give Tock an idea of where to head too.

Wisp leant over to watch her avidly. "Rory has the best memory," she boasted, as though Chris didn't know it and as though Tock cared any.

Tock looked at the map. Then looked at it again. "Are you SURE the X was over these trees right here?" he asked after a long, long time.

"Those are trees?" Chris asked. "Look like scribbles to me."

"Yeah, those are trees."

Rory gave Chris a small glare for that comment. "They're trees, thank you very much. Wisp has color, I don't." Then she back at Tock. "At least you know where to head now. Then she stood up, going to stand next to the other girl.

Boys!

"Well," said Wisp, "I thought they were trees," and both of them looked like slightly haughty teenagers; the slight blonde girl hugged her friend's arm reassuringly. "They were very abstract and inspired trees. Let's go."

Tock sighed, running a hand over his face. Now he knew exactly where and how he'd find his little girl.

Upside down and surrounded by fairies.

On Fairy Ground
Chris grunted as he fell into the hole, wondering how in the hell such a big hole had been dug when, according to Tock, only fairies lived in this area. He hadn't seen the hole, of course. He had been too busy ducking as a row of sharpened branches swung down out of nowhere.

He had intended to get lower, but this was too low, he thought irritably as he stared at the seven foot tall wall of dirt in front of him. "This was made for Tock," he muttered. Yet another thing to blame the b*****d for.

Wisp had crashed down smartly after him, and now the top of the hole was covered in a grille of sharpened branches; nothing loath, after a short round of groaning and brushing herself off and saying ewww, immediately started working. The trouble was that they were in a dark hole; she had drawn out her star sprinkles, and was -- with the help of the Rainbow of Light -- painstakingly was braiding a rope out of intangible strands.

"We can do it!" she said, like Rosie the Riveter. "That's the problem, with heaviness."

While two of her best friends found themselves in a dark hole, Rory was busy dodging swinging logs. She had never been so glad for the self defense and control lessons as they were paying off.

"What's with the traps?" she called out, keeping her eyes on the logs that were trying to knock her off her feet. She didn't want to think what would happen if she fell.

"Silva--" Tock grunted, shoving a log aside. Another one hit him in the back, making him curse, "is possessive of his cherries."

He cursed again, barely dodging a row of spiked tree limbs that fell from a tree. "And the bigger you are, the more dangerous this place is," he muttered as he tried to get his breath back. "Where are the others?" he asked suddenly.

"Rory!"

Wisp's bellow came funneled out of a weird direction -- it sounded like it was coming from behind and below, muffled. Thankfully it wasn't hard to see where it was coming from, either -- the girl threw her hand up like a softballer pitching and an arc of red sparkles like an emergency flare went up. Obvious message: help!

"In a hole," Rory replied to Tock's question as she saw the flare, and heard the call for help. She dodged another trap before heading for said hold, skidding to a halt right at the gap. Then she dropped to her knees, looking in.

"I don't even want to know how a hole like this got dug. Tock! Over here for some help!" she called over her shoulder. She was no where strong enough to get Chris out, but Tock might be able to help them both out.

"It's not that big of a deal," Chris bellowed as Tock went back, looking at the grille that covered the hole. "We don't need your help, Tock! Go on and get Polly!"

"Y'know, I would," Tock said. "But if we leave you down there, the fairies will have you. They're mean little bastards." He reached down, grasping the grille. "Watch out, I'm going to drop this into the hole so you can climb up it."

"But I thought fairies were cute and like, ran around coating things with fairy dust and being all, la la la," said Wisp, who'd only ever met with Ophelia's fairy. The grille dropped down; she immediately flung her intangible rainbow rope up into daylight, where it fixed itself on nothing, using the grille to help her scale until she was back at the top of the hole.

Chris jerked himself up the impromptu ladder before it collapsed under his weight. He used his legs to shove himself up those last few feet as the twigs fell into the hole. "I don't like fairies," he said.

The sound of a cold male voice laughing made him turn, his gold eyes narrowing at the trees. "We don't go la la anything," Silva said, still out of sight. "And the only fairy dust I know of is s**t you snort."

The grille was a great idea. While they were getting out, Rory kept her eyes open for anything else. Then someone else addressed them.

She looked over at the fairy who was laughing at them. "Where's Polly?" she asked, rather than comment to that.

Wisp was still trying to work out why you would snort fairy dust; she stood next to Rory, still brushing off dirt, looking at the tiny fairy. "Yeah," she said, "we've come here for Polly; she's only a kid! You better not have been hurting her!"

"Hmm, Polly, cute little redhead, bossy as hell, and tends to heat things up when she loses her temper?" he asked.

"Yeah, that's her," Chris said.

"Never heard of her. Now get out of my grove," Silva said coldly.

"Give me back my little girl," Tock snarled dangerously. "You cranky old b*****d!"

"You know her," Rory said, hands going on her hips. "And I know that she's come here. I saw that map of hers, and it lead here," she told the little fairy. There were more than one, and if these guys created traps like that, she wasn't going to just go up there and grab him to make him tell her.

Besides, she was rather happy that Tock was being so defensive of Polly, finally.

"Kidnapping's a crime, you know," added Wisp.

"A crime?" he repeated. "Who do you think the law in this part is?"

"He's right," Tock muttered. "This isn't like Gaia. In the grove, this is his territory. If they trespass it's his decision what happens to them. But she's MY little girl, Silva, and I demand you give her back!"

"What if she doesn't want to come back?" Silva asked, chewing on his toothpick with a little smirk. "She looked pretty happy to me. Even dug up a treasure box."

Tock had the gall to look proud of that fact.

Wisp did not have a huge head for legal practices, precedent or anything else. "Law doesn't matter," she said, "I'm a law, too, and this fairy is definitely contradicting colour law and the Rainbow of Light by doing anything so major-league craptastic -- "

But she thought about it, golden head tilted to the side, tapping her cheek. "We could pay for her," she said suddenly.

Silva leaned back, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Oh, really," he said. "Let me consult my... friend. C'mere, kid, tell them how much it's gonna cost them."

Polly stepped out of the shadows, a few more beads and shiny things hanging from her, nothing that looked expensive, but things that she definitely loved. She had a surprisingly serious expression on her face.

"Polly--" Chris said, stepping forward. A stick shot down in front of him, vibrating as it stuck deep into the ground.

"He won't pay for me again," she said, her eyes going to Tock, her hand going to the ruby she wore around her neck. "I'm too expensive."

Rory put her hands on her hips, looking at Tock. He was the reason this happened, after all. it was only right that he'd fix it. "So, what are you going to do now? You're the one she's mad at."

Not to mention that little Polly would be welcome at either her or Chris' house. She didn't say this, however.

"I think you better start deciding what's expensive and what's not expensive to you," added Wisp, sotto voce. "Like how bad it would cost not to have Polly around." (Secretly she was thrilled at her awesome metaphor.)

Tock grunted, already reaching for the three necklaces he had on. He tugged them off, tossing them on the ground. But that wasn't the end of it, and it even had Silva raising an eyebrow as he took the rings off of his hands, tossing them onto the pile. Then he reached for his shirt, having it halfway off before Polly threw herself at him.

"Stop!" she said. "Tock's an idiot!"

"So," Austin said, stepping out of the trees, a broken compass in his hand. "We goin' home yet? The treasure sucked."

Well, Polly had run back to her protector; a weird child had appeared in the trees; to Wisp, all was well that ended well, and this appeared to be a... well ending. "Well, that's that," she said, cheered, "hooray for family lovin'!"

"Guess so," Kaeden said, stepping out from around the tree too. "How mad do ya think Chloe is?"

"Probably really mad," Rory said, looking at the boys. "You guys went with her?" Then she shook her head.

"If you three ever do something this stupid again--" Tock started out, only to blink as Polly pulled away from him and went to picking up his jewelry. He waited for her to give them back.

She started putting them on, instead. "This is mine, and this is mine, and this--"

"Hey now," Silva said.

"Ha ha ha, it was all a big misunderstanding!" said Wisp at last, as though saying it would mean it was. "Thank you for looking after Polly, Mr. Fairy! I knew you actually had a kind heart!"

Silva shot through the air, grabbing two of the rings that fell off of Polly's tiny fingers. "I'm taking these, kid. Babysitting fee." She gave him a dark look.

"Fine," she said. "But I'll trade you this blue one for the red one."

He looked at the rings, then traded her.

"Let's get going," Tock said, picking Polly up by the back of her shirt and dragging her away before she could make any more deals.

"Take Nack with you," Silva said, shoving one of his guards forward. "He'll come home when he makes sure things are as they should."

Tock just grunted. He was ready to go home.

"I believe we need to talk," Antony said the next morning, stopping in front of Chris as the younger boy headed for his class. Chris looked at him, raising an eyebrow slightly.

"What about?" Chris asked.

"A few things, really. And since you refuse to answer my phone calls I'm going to force you to skip your first class."

"You're just looking for an excuse to get out of sex ed, aren't you?"

"It is a nice side benefit, yes," Antony said a bit dryly, looking over at the class they would have both gone to, had he not decided to skip it. The idea of skipping any class was a bit shocking to him, but he could only handle so many sessions with Lindy in one week. And since he had to have an excuse, Chris seemed the best method all around. "Look, you can't feel very comfortable in that class, either, now can you?"

Chris went silent, hating to admit that the teenager was right. He wasn't comfortable in that class. Especially when Rory and Wisp were in it. "Fine," he said, slinging his bag higher over his shoulder and knuckling his way to the boy's bathroom. It was the only place he could think of.

"Not there," Antony said. "We'll use the gym, it doesn't smell nearly as bad and Father doesn't have a class at this time."

Chris shrugged and headed for the gym, not about to argue. The smell in the boy's bathroom was pretty rank. They were silent as they entered the gym, and the glance that Shade shot them made them both worry a bit. But he just shrugged. "I'll write you a note," he said before turning back to his work setting up relay races for his next class.

"Why--"

"He knows about my slight problem with Ms. Lindy," Antony said before Chris could finish the question.

"You've got a problem with Ms. Lindy?" Chris asked. "She seems fine to me."

"Our personalities clash," Antony said as they dropped down on the bleachers, Chris taking up far more space than himself. "Besides, she can't flunk me for one missed class. I doubt she wants to put up with me for another year, anyway."

"Who would?" Chris asked. "What do you want, Antony? If it's to be best friends, you're wasting your time."

A tiny smirk pulled at Antony's lips. "Of course I am," he said. "You prefer your friends to be female. Not that I can blame you for that."

A slight flush crossed Chris's cheeks. "There's nothin' wrong with having girls for friends," he muttered. "And ever since Harper--"

Antony let out a rude word, earning a dark look from Chris. "Hey, you might have hated him, but he was my friend," Chris growled. "Which is a lot more than I could say about you."

"I'm not going to argue this with you," Antony said. "I've already had this fight with Jace more times than I could count--"

"You should leave Jace alone, too," Chris said. "She's part of my band. I'm not gonna let you mess with her head just because you're a pretty boy--"

"Shut up, Chris," Antony said calmly. "You know nothing about Jace and my relationship."

"So you admit there's a relationship, huh?" His eyes were glowing and a gold aura was building up around him. Antony twitched.

"She's my best friend," he said. "Her and Iggy. You don't see me accusing you of doing something with Wisp, do you?"

"Or Rory."

"No, you're definitely doing something with Rory," Antony said.

"I'm just a kid," Chris growled. "I'm not doing anything."

"Sure you're not," Antony said. "You're right at that age where you'll grow any day, now, past it, really. And I meant that I see the way she's always looking for you in the halls. Rory is a friend of mine, but you don't see me trying to stop you from being her friend, now do you?"

"Wait, so you're doing something with Iggy, too?" Chris asked, distracted.

"What??"

"You said--"

"I'm straight, thank you very much," Antony snapped.

"So if we follow your logic, you've got Irelia, Delilah AND Jace--" Christian said, counting them off on his fingers. "Cuz I saw them all watching you in the halls."

"You're imagining things," Antony said a bit too blandly. "But that's not what I came to talk to you about. It's about the twins--"

He jerked as a huge hand shot out, grabbing him by the shirtfront. Gold eyes glared directly into his. "Keep. Your hands. OFF OF THE TWINS." The two voices were cold enough to send the gym down three degrees.

"It isn't that!" Antony said quickly, gulping loudly. Sometimes he forgot just how huge Chris was. "It's absolutely not that. They're children, for crying out loud!" Although who couldn't imagine them as teenagers? The doublemint twin complex-- "This is something different," he added, calming his tone, even though he was still being held. "Something that worries me."

Chris snorted and let him go. "Sure there is. They're twins. They're beautiful. Who wouldn't be worried? Especially about Kashmira. She's going to be trouble."

"She avoids me," Antony admitted. "But it's about their arm bands. Something's different about them. It's like they're..."

"Alive?" Chris asked.

"You noticed?"

"Caught one looking at me in the middle of History class just the other day."

"They influence the twins' auras," Antony said. "And ever since the Rudolfo incident I've been--"

"Rudolfo?"

"He ah-- well, a few months ago--"

"Oh, that guy." Chris was leaning back against the bleachers, a thoughtful look on his face.

"You knew about my being... indisposed?"

"Is that where you're taking a crap?" Chris asked. "I just knew you were possessed."

"To put it bluntly."

"I don't tend to put anything any other way," Chris said with a cynical twitch of his lips. Antony could see the teenager he would be already.

"Does Rory know you're like this in private?" Antony asked.

"Like what?" Chris asked.

"Never mind," Antony said. This was, surprisingly, more fun than he had anticipated. He would have to sneak Chris out of class more often. "The arm bands might be hurting their auras," he said bluntly. "I'm not sure how, but they're definitely different from normal. And trust me, I've seen a lot of strange auras."

"I don't see s**t," Chris said almost cheerfully. Even if his father would have given him a look for the cursing.

"You're lucky like that," Antony said.

"Yeah," Chris said. "I know."
