Niamh sniffled, and clung to Aedus as everyone scrambled into the bunker. It was clear that they were still being pursued, even before Annabelle began screaming. Niamh shielded her eyes, and flinched at what was happening. It was hard to process. She limped toward the bunker, hoping beyond hope that no one beside Annabella had been caught outside. Surely Anabelle could defend herself?
Once inside the bunker, she slid to the ground, wimpering again. Her right shoe was gone, her stockings a bloody mess. She grimaced as she looked at her wound. It wasn't particularly deep, perhaps her now missing shoe had spared the worst of it. It still did look it needed attention.
She looked up at Aedus, big eyes liquid. "D-do you think you could figure out if there's someone who can ... look at this." She gestured to her foot, wrinkling her nose.

"Death trap." Ganymede corrected him dully. The search party had been gone for hours- were they even coming back? He wasn't entirely convinced of that... Or at least, he wasn't until all the commotion started up. Ava left- noises from outside sounded violent. She returned with the group, freshling in tow, but they looked far worse for wear than they had when they left.
"I knew it. We're dead." He paled, markings sputtering out as his tendrils died down. Sure, they'd made it to the bunker alive, but now the attackers knew where they were! All they had to do was wait them out. "We're so dead. ********. Look at them, Foras. Look at them." He motioned at the group, looking from them to Foras with an expression of uncharacteristic panic.
Jericho watched intently as Ava left, worry increasing to dangerous levels again. Kirket had come by to give him a calming talisman, but its effects didn't seem to do much help with this. Oh no. With Ava's return and her speech, he could feel his heart hammering. He could barely hear anything- the sound of it beating was so loud and his need to get air was so overpowering that he couldn't focus on anything anyone was saying or doing. Oh, this was awful. They were done for!

Water! Chips! Lawven's mood considerably rose as she grabbed the bag and bottle. Her tail flicked across the ground, a pleased purr rumbling in her chest as she opened the crinkly bag of chips, "Uhm, sorry for not asking politely." Really? Who cared? But she guessed the Elf was right. Especially since the nice hallowed Chimera had given her chips and water! What a nice nightmare.
Taking a fistful of chips and shoving them into her mouth, Lawven chewed noisily, happy chirps rumbling out of her mouth (as well as some chips coming for the ride). "Are yew shick? Are you gonna puke? I did that wonsh." Swallowing, Lawven rubbed her sweatered arm across his face roughly, "Miss Annabelle was really nice! She read me a nice story and I felt better. I like her a lot." Lawven nodded as if confirming this fact with herself.
Well, with the food and water situation ended, she was free to leave, but... Stuff happened. Noises, moaning, and loud talking came from the door. Then, there were people again! The search party was back. Some of them got hurt, but the kid that had escaped was found. So that was good.
Lawven was only half listening to Ava as she silently munched away, but the snacking ended when Ava ended her announcement. What? Miss Annabelle was outside? With the hostiles? Hostiles were bad things, right? To be hostile was like, angry? Or kind of mean. And she couldn't get inside safely. What... What did any of that mean? Was she... She couldn't be gone, right? No. Lawven hated the idea of losing someone else. Losing more. Tears started to roll down her cheeks, and no matter how much she tried to clear them up, they kept coming back.
Boldly, the bakeneko approached Ava. Reaching up, she grabbed the teacher's skirt with her grubby hand and tugged. She was still crying, but through the tears she managed to ask, "Miss Ava? When is Miss Annabella coming back? I miss Miss Annabelle, Miss Ava. Is she okay?"

Ava had pulled herself against the nearest wall, pushing her body out of the way as Yuki ran about to assist those around her. Her eyes drifted to the found freshling, then towards the group that had just returned. A hand pulled her arm into herself, body unusually small for once. It was clear she was lost in thought, most likely running through plans and ideas in her head. A small form approached her, startling the demon when it spoke.
Ah, Lawven. She flashed a small smile which instantly faded at the question.
'Is she okay?'
Her mouth tightened, teeth gritting together. The image of Annabelle in warg form flashed in her mind, running through the scene as she remembered the beings leaping upon the caretaker. Her hands tightened, nails digging into her skin violently.
How long ago was it when Annabelle came to her office, looking for a job? How long ago was it when Ava found herself promoting Anna to head caretaker when the previous one retired? They weren't close, but Ava had held a fondness for the grimm. Anna was sweet, and motherly. Someone she wished her own mother had been. She was a good person, and it was hard to find someone so truthfully so.
And Ava had closed the door on her.
She felt sick, a wave of nausea rushing through her as her hands trembled. What could she do? Lie? Lawven was a child, but children weren't stupid. Her voice couldn't carry any lie she would attempt. Each time she considered a response an image of Annabelle rushed through her head. Carefully, Ava swallowed back her fear, bending down to Lawven's level.
"Soon, I hope." What do you say to a child asking questions that only adults should hear the answer to? "We'll do everything we can to bring her back to us. Right now, I'm sure she's found somewhere safe to go." It was hopeful, and Ava held onto that hope desperately. She couldn't allow the image in her head to manifest. Annabelle was safe. She had to be.
It'd be her fault if she died.
Her eyes watered, hands gripping tight. She slowly stood up, looking towards the side. "I'm sorry Lawven, I have to-" She cut off, unable to finish the sentence as she rushed off and away from the group, pressing herself against the edge of the entrance to the ascending hallway. There, she covered her mouth, back turned to her students as she sobbed.
It was her fault.

Arabelle took the bottle of water with another "Thank you", but held onto it for a moment. Just the act of taking the bottle had tired her out. She heard the Bakeneko give thanks as well, then start noisily munching the bag of chips. The sound irritated her, for some reason, making her want to knock the bag away. She just couldn't muster the energy to move. "I don't think so," she responded to the question (and hoping it was correct, she really didn't want to be sick right now), though she again had to throttle the irritation that came as the freshling spoke around a full mouth. Thankfully for her irritation the chips were gone quickly, the freshling also off to ask questions. Arabelle was only vaguely aware of things going on around her, unable to properly focus. She looked down at the bottle in her hands. Perhaps a drink would steady her. She tried to open it, but her hands slipped around the cap. Again a wave of irritation. She wanted to just throw the bottle and curl up in a ball. It seemed these waves would come out of nowhere, then fade at the realization that she was too weak to do anything about them. She looked up at the junior. "Sorry, I'm having trouble. Could you open this for me," she asked, offering up the bottle with an arm that trembled. She looked over at the milling crowd. They seem stirred up, but she still couldn't string her thoughts together properly. "What's going on?"

It had been quiet in the bunker for hours, long enough for them all to become very uneasy with those who were sick. They were getting worse and worse as time went on. It was definitely not a good sign. He was leaning back against the wall and taking sips from his water bottle occasionally to have something to do.
Ava ran off suddenly and Foras stood away form the wall for a change, using his height to watch what was unfolding. She came back with those that had left to search for the kid. Although, the care taker was missing from the group. So, they had found the child. But in the process they had lost Anna and many of them were quite seriously injured.
He didn't even have a chance to speak, stunned into silence. Gany was in full blown panic mode. It did seem like they were doomed. Foras looked toward the group for a second when Gany motioned to them, but then Gany had all of his attention. Gany was thinking this was the end for them. He didn't have any hope for the future.
Well, Foras was about to give him some hope. It might not be in a form that he would appreciate. But if he wasn't going to take this chance now, he might never get the chance. He gently placed his hands on Gany's shoulders, kneading them gently with his fingers. He knew his skin was sensitive, so he was gentle in his approach. Then he leaned down and gave Ganymede a gentle, passionate kiss right on his lips.
When he pulled away he had a tender smile on his face, completely devoid of his usual cocky self. "We're gonna keep on living. I promise we'll get through this. If I have to personally beat down every monster out there to do it, I will." He sighed and pulled Gany into a hug, letting him rest his head on his cheat. He was surprisingly calm now. "And whatever happens, just know I've always loved you." He had told Gany a thousand times that he loved him, but never as seriously as now.

Somewhere safe to go. Lawven had never really worried about 'safety'. It was an abstract thought, a lot like time. Something that was there or it wasn't. Sometimes you were safe. Sometimes you had time. Sometimes you had neither. Miss Ava left her abruptly, rushing off, and Lawven was alone.
Again.
For a brief second she considered retreating, maybe curling up and getting some sleep, but being alone sounded wrong. She was so bone tired and lonely. Instead of returning to the group, Lawven padded after the headmistresses, her gait much more slow than the older demon's.
What she found was... Surprising. Miss Ava was standing in a corner, and there was... Some sort of crying sound? Was Miss Ava crying? Was it because of Miss Annabelle? They must have been good friends. Poor Miss Ava was so sad and alone too. Lawven approached the adult, waiting until she was about a step or two away, and then cleared her throat loudly.
"You know," the bakeneko's split tailed brushed across the ground, "If you hide in the corner it'll just make you look suspicious! Miss Annabelle taught me that. Shouldn't you know that too?"
Sitting down on the ground, Lawven stretched her legs out in front of her, "You don't gotta be lonely. I'll be here with you. Here, I'll tell you a story. It's one of the oldest ones I know! How the Bakeneko split its tail."
Vague memories came rushing back. She remember sitting on a plush bed in an oppresively warm room. Beside her was a woman, but not her mother. It was a caretaker, a maid. They were holding hands, and she was telling her the story. There were boxes everywhere, holding all of her things.
"Once upon a time there was only one Bakeneko. He was black and white all over. He was really lonely and so he decided to find a friend." Lawven glanced over, her eyes narrowing suspiciously at Ava, "You're listening, right? You better be! There will be a quiz at the end."

It was madness, Eilwen thought she was doomed. That all they efforts they had put into finding the lost child was going to be pointless. They were cornered. Despite that she didn't plan on going down without a fight. Her heart was beating so fast in her cheat that she thought it was going to burst. She could still taste the smoke in her mouth from where she'd set fire to Coco's attacker. It wasn't enough to take out one though, there were so many.
She was still backing up when suddenly Vanna was in front of her. She didn't know how he did it. It was both amazing and horrifying to watch him tear into those monsters. As much as he was hurting them, he was also getting hurt. She was crying now.
"Vanna be careful!" She gave him warnings when she could and tried to help, but it was all happening to fast. She couldn't even focus enough to know what to do to help or anything. He spun around so fast and before she knew it he was carrying her and she had to readjust the child in their arms. They were all running and fighting when they had to. It was chaos and she was sobbing through it all. When they got to the door of the bunker, Anna stayed behind. She didn't make it through the doors with them. The last thing she was before the bunker closed behind them all was the flash of her worg form as she fought for her life and their's. It was heart breaking.
Vanna put her down gently and she couldn't even stand. As soon as his arms left her she crumbled to the floor and cradled the small child in her arms. She couldn't hold on to them forever though. She was hurt and a mess, plus they really needed to go back to their caretaker. She gently let them go and messed with their hair, trying to make it look neat again. "You be good okay?" They rejoined the group of kids then and Eilwen sat on the ground, finally tuned back in to the pain in her shoulder.
"How are we even alive right now?" She managed the sentence between sobs as she reach up with her left hand to hold the wound on her right shoulder. It hurt so bad. Her chest also hurt, her heart felt like it could give out. No, she was definitely not okay.

Ruby slunk back into the bunker with the rest of the group, letting the nurse fret over her. Even though they were both here now, both relatively safe, Ruby felt like something was off. She felt nauseous, and she wasn't sure if it was from nerves, stress, or her injury. The survivors from the safehouses... she glanced at all of them, looking for some sign that they were okay. Honestly, they weren't looking so good. Some of them seemed to be acting, well, even worse than they had before they left to look for that kid. If only they had been more careful, if only, if only...
Ruby didn't want to admit it, but she was scared. Really scared. She looked at Chunli, her search partner, her friend, perhaps. Why shouldn't they be friends after what had just happened? "You okay?" she asked, a bit strained. The blood running down the Chimera's neck was ghastly. It needed to have pressure put on it, or, something. It didn't seem to have punctured anything vital because Chunli hadn't passed out from blood loss yet. Ruby, meanwhile, had lost a chunk of her own arm. At least it's not my good arm, she mused as the nurse wrapped a bandage around the wound, attempting with healing magic to staunch the bleeding.

They were almost to the bunker. He was pretty sure he could see Ms. Ava as they got closer and then the unthinkable happened. They were all ushered inside and he watched as they shut the door with Annabelle was on the other side. He wanted to scream something. You never left anyone behind. You just didn’t. Except they had. They had left someone in the thick of disaster and it left a bad taste in his mouth. Back in the bunker he gently set them down and staggered away. He realized ever since they had shut the door he had been crying as the final bits of his rage disappeared. He had just flipped on everyone and killed something in front of them. The group had been saying how nice and non-scary he was. Haha guess that wasn’t really nice or non-scary. He’d leave the moment it looked like they didn’t need him or that was his plan until Eilwen let go of the kid and spoke up. He reached forward like he wanted to hug her but he remembered she didn’t like being touched and he was just covered with blood. Most of it not his own but still… “Because we were lucky” Vanna replied bitterly and then sighed. He was emotionally drained. “If… If I’m a problem, or make you guys uncomfortable… I’ll… I’ll go” he didn’t want to. He wanted to stay here and make sure they were safe, continue making them safe and probably hug them but he tried to have manners.

They were almost there. Almost... just a little farther! Kingston didn't realize what had happened until they were all inside. Wait, Annabelle... Annabelle was! But the door was closed. His ears flopped back as he helped bring Coco inside. At least... at least they were all here. They were safe. Well, not everyone was here. Annabelle... Kingston set Coco down. He looked at her, then Eilwen and back. Were they going to be ok? AH! And then Eilwen started crying? He didn't know what to do, and it was made worse by the fact that... That... was Vanna crying too? A soft whine escaped him. His friends needed... something, and he didn't know what. He stood before Eilwen before dropping to his knees and hugged her carefully. "Power of friendship... or something." What did it matter how they survived. The point was that they DID, and they all made it out together. He looked seriously at Eilwen. "Do you want me to call someone over to look at your shoulder?" Then Kingston heard Vanna talk. He looked up at Vanna, then frowned and stood before punching him in the arm. "Don't you dare leave!" He snapped a little more harshly then he'd intended. "Now more then ever, we need you. We... need to stay together." Because honestly, things weren't over yet, they just didn't... feel like they were over. Something didn't sit well with Kingston, and he didn't know how to say it. Then, not caring about the blood on his friend, Kingston hugged Vanna.

Baum watched as the kid took the offerings and noticed out of the corner of his eye the elf started to seem like she was having irritation problems. He normally wouldn't notice but it was a look he often got when he was getting irritated. Sure The freshling was a bit nosy but it was mostly a freshling thing. Maybe they just didn't like children but then they didn't seem to have a problem with Baum and Baum was definitely still in that kid stage. He did give a slight amused snort as the freshling ran off again. Yeah he was definitely used to that behavior. "Ahh sorry. I should have thought to open it. I'm sorry that was insensitive of me" Baum replied quickly twisting the cap off and handing the drink back. He looked over to where the search party had returned. His wings fluttering behind them "The search party came back. It looks like a good chunk of them are injured and Miss Annabelle isn't with them. I would assume it looks like the academy got attacked too, although they do have a freshling with them so they found the child"

Honey let out a groan, stumbling from wall to wall. They tried to get through the door to help the others, but it was clear that their wounds were too debilitating. Hearing the nurse ask for the wounded, Honey grinned at her. "Got bit, love, right on the... the thing, ya know... here..." Honey mumbled, indicating to the area between their neck and left shoulder. It was weird, though, when they thought about it. The wound in her right side still burnt like crazy, but the bite wound had almost gone totally numb. "I uh... I can't really feel it now, miss. That's a good thing, yeah?" Honey said half-heartedly, trying to pull their charismatic smile through the pain.
Seeing the party return, Honey waved dismissively. "It's... it's alright, right? Alright right, ha..." Their words were barely more than a mumble now as they sank to the floor. "Had enough of this day," they muttered irritably.

Coco's head was spinning as she tried to figure out what had happened and what was going on. She looked around she remembered blowing the whistle and she remembered being bitten by a humanoid thing, she looked down at the torn bite mark on her arm and that was when she heard Vanna say he would leave if they wanted him to. Coco just snapped. She stood up and shouted. "YOU ARE NOT LEAVING!!" As far as Coco felt in her heart these beings were the only reason she had gotten through this night this far, she loved them all deeply like family. She lowered her voice shaking. "You all are like the family I never had, you can't leave me now Vanna.." Coco said starting to cry.. "You, Kingston and Eilwen are the best.." Coco was out of energy she fell back down leaning heavily against the wall. "Thank you, Kingston." Coco said softly. She wasn't mad that he had helped her, without them Coco didn't know what would have happened.

Aten and Raa had slipped inside just in time before the doors were sealed. Aten's heart was in a twist. Annabelle would return, or so she had promised. Aten didn't like that she was still out there one bit, but Annabelle was old enough to make her own decisions and likely knew what she was doing. It was hopefully for the best. For now, the imp had other things he had to address. Like Ella in his arms, still unconscious. Aten used his tail to gently move people out of the way as best as he could to find a comfortable spot with the other bitten children, settling her down in a makeshift bed that had been constructed out of layers of blankets. Aten shifted to cradle her head as he slowly lowered her, while Raa slipped his hands in deftly to bunch up some of the blankets as a pillow until he could find a more suitable one. "Stay here with her. Keep your hands pressed to her wound. I'm going to find Ava and Yuki ... " Aten got to his feet, pressing a hand to his son's shoulder and giving it a small, reassuring squeeze before stepping away to speak with the headmistress. Raa was left alone with Ella, one hand pressed firmly to her wound, and one hand gripping tightly on to her hand, as if he might never get the chance to hold it again. "I'm so sorry, Ella ... "
