War Machine had to dive to avoid the civilian, but not before noticing the odd way that the Scarebeast moved. Remembering Tony's darts, War Machine armed his own tranquilizers as he took to the air. He trusted Future Batman to catch the civilian while he chased the Beast.
He flew up over the ledge and landed, cannons at the ready, as he waited for the Beast to make a move. He advanced slowly.

"Where is the big bad beast? Scary not knowing! But maybe the man of war that drives of machine can find the scary beast! What do you think puppet number one?"
Scarebeast had two employees in hand, since his other hand was still numb from the darts. The second employee was held by Scarebeast's thumb, while the first was controlled by his other claws in the way of a puppet with strings. Scarebeast had managed to use his fingers to guide a bit of the movement of the first employee, like a puppet. Scarebeast spoke with a girly voice to imitate the employee's voice.
"I don't think he can! Steel, flesh, and bone can never defeat scary beast!"
Scarebeast chuckled and grasped the employee fully along with the other employee he had with his thumb. Nothing mattered now except to see what was happening to Scarebeast's little red buddy Carnage, even though Scarebeast didn’t technically know Carnage's actual alias.
"Machine backs off, so scary beast can help red buddy!"

Black Cat landed on a rooftop and surveyed the scene. Immediately, her eyes widened. Carnage. Oh, God, that was Carnage. She bit her lip, fighting the urge to turn tail and get the hell out of there. If Carnage was there, so was Spidey; if he wasn't there now, he'd be there any second. She just had to stick around, keep out of the fray, and... She cocked her head, seeing a slight but muscular body through a gaping hole in the top of the Bugle, and then smiled. "Bingo," she purred. Quickly, she slid on her gas-mask, then leapt across to the building, climbed up to the roof, and slipped in through the hole.
Careful to stay on the walls and in the shadows, she took stock; something enormous was attacking... War Machine, and by his side was... Not her Spider. She could still see how she'd made the mistake; they had the same build, but this one was dressed like a bat. One slim eyebrow went up, and then she smiled. Interesting... she thought, Maybe I should go say 'hello.'
((Um... a lot's happened... Basically, Carnage, Hybrid, and Scarecrow all showed up and started attacking Spider-man. Iron Man showed up to help him, and a few minutes later, War Machine showed up to help them. Spidey eventually inhaled too much fear-gas and went bonkers, and Supergirl hauled him off to get the antidote from Bats. At about that same point, Batman of the Future and Ben Rielly Spider-man show up and join the fight. Meanwhile, Daredevil and friends have been evacuating everyone who was on top of the Bugle. Whew!))

War Machine was scanning as Scarebeast spoke, identifying all of the life forms in the building. He found Scarebeast after a few seconds, then noticed that Black Cat had shown up as well. Best not to acknowledge her, maybe she could get the slip on the Scarebeast.
"I thought I told you to drop the civilians," War Machine said as he neared a corner. He put his back against the wall and slid up to it to speak around it. "I'm warning you, Straw Man. Don't play with fire." Which gave him an idea. He quickly made sure that his miniature flamethrower was in proper working order.

//Yeah, Reapers caused a bit of commotion on the roof and Shadow Spider tried to hold them back. Everyone but her moved to a different rooftop, and the reapers captured her with their shadows. Dr. Strange (who's keeping Reaper on a bit of a leash) made him let Shadow go. She returned to the roof, took Rosie, and opened her shadow to teleport to New York. She said she'd leave the shadow open for a short time for anyone else who didn't want to stay. Kingpin left. Daredevil, knowing he was of better use on the ground with the others, gave 'Pirate the choice to stay or leave. If Daredevil got so much of a hint that he was causing trouble, he'd be after him though. You, 'Pirate, and Daredevil are the only ones currently on the roof still.....I think. //

Scarebeast jumped forward and through the way War Machine was heading behind, aiming to tackle and rip him apart. A creature like Scarebeast had no long ranged attacks and was only useful when his target got close enough to him, which was why he was so easily subdued by the tranquilizers from earlier: that was a ranged attack. In a close combat situation, Scarebeast was a force to be reckoned with and took every advantage of that. If War Machine did actually use the fire he said he had, Scarebeast wouldn't care; it would hurt at first, but nothing short of an explosion would rupture his hide due to the strength of his body's endurance while Scarebeast. Scarecrow would have been more cautious, but Scarebeast lacked such caution; he wanted to inspire fear at all cost. Scarebeast had dropped the civilian for favor of attacking with both of his arms; two claws were better then one.
"Scream in terror!"

Scarebeast's attack would have been at least severely damaging, if not fatal, were it not for one detail: War Machine's energy shield. A thin bubble formed around him and caved slightly under Scarebeast's attack, but was far from broken. This was StarkTech at its best.
"Ahh," he fake-screamed in mock terror as he raised his arms. From his left he fired a bundle of ten tranquilizers, and from the right he let loose with the flamethrower.

Scarebeast wanted to curse at the unoriginality both War Machine and Iron Man had together; they were basically the same hero with a different paint jobs. The world started to go dark in Scarebeast's eyes and soon, everything began to get bigger almost. The tranquilizers had neutralized Scarebeast and now he was turning back to Scarecrow or in other terms, human. There was a problem though; Scarecrow was now on fire. As the world got darker as the tranquilizers set in and Scarebeast slowly started to transform back to human, his screams from the pain of the fire sent echoes throughout the whole building; screams of both pain and joy for proof that Batman was indeed a better rival since Scarecrow never got burned alive while he fought Batman. More screams of terror came from Scarecrow as his own Fear Toxin began to take effect again, the fire turning into flaming bats. This however did not affect Scarecrow; he only stared at War Machine as he was being burnt alive and spoke.
"Help me!"
Scarecrow had no idea how he ended up being strangled by Spiderman to the point he was at now, no recollection of his doings as Scarebeast; only the darkness that enveloped him during such a state was remembered. Waking up to see flaming bats nipping at your flesh was not exactly the way Scarecrow wanted to wake up and soon, he was heading back to sleep due to the tranquilizers and the stress created by the pain of the fire and the Fear Toxin.

War Machine had seen a lot of villains, but this was definitely one weird opponent. First he tried to kill him, then freaked out and asked for help as he changed. Unsure what to do, War Machine hastily opened a channel to Tony.
"Tony, I've got the Scarebeast incapacitated. Should I capture or neutralize?"

Tony hesitated for a second, then sighed. "Capture. But make sure he's out; I don't want him messing things up any more." He paused, looking at the two fighting symbiotes with raised eyebrows. He wouldn't have believed it was possible, but things had just gotten weirder. "When you're done cleaning up, I need your opinion on something."

"All right, I'll be out in a sec. Hold tight til then."
He looked back down at the flaming Scarecrow and decided to knock him out before he put out the flames. He fired another cluster of tranquilizers, ten more darts, into the villain at his feet, then began patting out the flames.
Once they were taken care of, War Machine picked Scarecrow up and carried him to the door. He took off to land near Tony.
"What's up?"

Tony nodded toward the fighting symbiotes. "I don't know who the new one is, but it looks like Hybrid is getting ready to switch sides. So do we join in and risk Hybrid remembering that he doesn't like us, or do we just sit back and watch them beat the ever-living crap out of each other? I'm leaning toward choice number two."

War Machine nodded. "I think I'm with you there. Maybe we can mop up the winner when they're done." He dropped Scarecrow to the roof.

As soon as War Machine left with the greatly diminished creature, Black Cat flipped down to land silently on the ground, then sauntered over to the object of her curiosity. "Well, hello, handsome," she purred.
Tony landed on the same roof. "Maybe we should get popcorn," he said crossing his arms and looking down at the combatants, "I can't remember the last time I got to just sit back and watch."
