Welp, I got back from orientation last night. I still ache from all the walking. Most of the school is located on a slope. Fun.

I'm here, more or less. Nothing on tv except daily show/colbert reruns (they take hiatuses at the weirdest times, I swear.)

I've got about 4 1/2 weeks until band camp starts (I actually checked this time, I have a better handle on how long I'm waiting.) and I have quite a bit I need to deal with before I leave home.
Aside from the obvious 'buy dorm stuff' and 'get teeth out', I need to get student loans, clean my current room and try to keep it clean (my sister is going to use it when I leave,) build up my mouth muscles for playing an instrument again, and...I don't know what else.

Oh so you're actually going to go and live there in the dorm yes?
Can I ask, is there not a College closer to home, so you wouldn't have to move so far away from your family?
I'm sure you'll get everything done by that time. 3nodding

There is in fact a large university close to home, but THEY REJECTED ME. the U I'm attending is actually their football rival, take that douches!
I'm living in a single (no room-mate) dorm for people ages 20+, which is perfect for me. It's usually for grad students, but undergrads can also use it apparently. I'm excited for a space all to myself, I can sew and stuff and not bother anyone. Bathroom might be communal, but the shower I used during my visit wasn't too bad. Not a lot of space for me to put my clothes/toiletries, but I can adjust.
Speaking of my visit, the folks in charge kept us on a pretty short leash for most of the time. I hardly had time to explore the campus on my own, but as soon as I had a few spare hours, I made a beeline for the music and history buildings, and got myself acquainted with a couple key people.
The music receptionist got me set up for both the bands I'm in and directed me to the history department, and recommended someone for me to talk to. That person wasn't there, but the guy who was ended up being the MAIN ADVISER FOR MY MAJOR. Stroke of unbelievable luck, right? Told me exactly what classes I'd need and steered me towards a possible unpaid internship at the library. I'm still waiting to hear back from the dude in charge of that, but the fact that I got so much stuff done instead of taking a bunch of craptastic tours and stuff makes me feel pretty good.

I'm sorry to hear that the local University rejected you. Maybe it wasn't meant to be?
It'll take time, but once you get yourself familiarized with what' and who is around you, you'll do quite well.
It's a matter of meeting new faces, making new friends, and then everything falls into place. Don't worry too much about the first few weeks, it may not feel comfortable, but you'll get the hang of it. There's always a first time for everything right?
See, you've already met this guy who showed you around, so that in itself is a good start. 3nodding
