It was at that point in his rather sad paddle raft that another coughing spell overtook Kane. It truly felt like his chest was on fire, and Kane reflexively put his hand to his chest. Unfortunately, it was the one that had been holding his precious Yamanaka dao, pretty much the only thing bar his chain containing a photo of him and his brother Hide related to his family, that he kept with him regularly. Kane reacted quickly in the face of such disaster. With a superhuman effort he swallowed the cough down, just for the moment, and lunged for the sword, grabbing madly in the depths below. A searing pain shot across his lower torso area but he ignored it, scrabbling madly through the water for his blade. His whole body entered the sea now and he squinted through the semi-darkness, eyes smarting painfully at the salt water level. As he lowered himself in he felt his hands brush across the familiar metal. Thank goodness. Kane grabbed it upon first notice, resolving never to let go of it ever again, and studied his surroundings. His sword had become caught in a thick patch of seaweed growing out from an underwater ledge, and boy was that fortunate! Using his hold on the sword as an anchor to keep his raft in place, Kane tugged and twisted his sword, slicing bits of seaweed and untangling other bits of it in an effort to get his sword out. All this while trying to hold his breath, and ignoring the stinging pain in his lower torso area as well.

Eventually, with one last tug, Kane pulled his sword free. Working his knees, he slowly edged himself back onto his vessel to well, a sort of safety, he supposed. Provided something crazy and terrible didn't happen and knock him off his feet into the water, not to mention also sucking his sword into the oblivion he'd just spent entirely too much saving it on. Exhausted, Kane lay on his raft for a moment, just enjoying the bobbing of the waves as he regained his strength. He was a lot closer to shore, he could tell. In his examination of the sea landscape he'd found that the seabed was much higher than before. Soon it would be under a metre and he would be able to clamber off the raft, and fight his way to shore, forcing his legs to support his weight. Well, he could use his sword as a support he supposed.

Kane's various aches and wounds throbbed as he rested. Honestly Kane couldn't be bothered to check out the source of the searing pain in his lower torso, although he rightly suspected it to be yet another wound, partially healed but torn open in his struggle just now. Kane had a feeling that the sight of what felt like such a large gash would only further depress him anyway.

But eventually all enjoyment must come to an end. As he rested Kane knew that the current was slowly sweeping him off-course, with the guiding influence of his paddle, and he grudgingly hauled himself up. Once he reached Shimagakure, then he could collapse in a heap on the beach and regain his strength before moving in. Once he reached Shimagakure. Once he reached Shimagakure... Taking yet another deep breath, trying to summon the strength that was sapping away from him through his wound, thirst, hunger and his mental exertion, Kane let his hands flop into the water before resolutely starting to paddle. Obviously, using his sword was no longer an option. He didn't want to risk dropping it again, when he wasn't in any reasonble physical shape to retrieve it. In fact, he probably wasn't even strong enough to hold it anymore... Kane felt very strongly the urge to sleep, to wake up when he was feeling better and try again. But the rational part of his mind pushed that suggestion away. If he did that there was a strong chance that he may not wake again. And if he did it was almost guaranteed that he would find himself still bobbing in the sea, having been swept away by the merciless, whimsical current. Everything would be all right... ONCE HE REACHED SHIMAGAKURE.

Once he reached Shimagakure. That mantra repeated itself in Kane's mind, and he took it upon himself to chant it resolutely. Not verbally of course - he was already far too tired for that. It was already taking most of his energy to pathetically paddle towards the shoreline. It felt like his steering wasn't having much effect, but, Kane told himself strongly, it definitely was. Shimagakure was looking so much closer already. And he would take a rest upon reaching that lovely white pearl beach. Lying amongst the sand. The sun was rising already, promising a warm day. Once he reached Shimagakure. It was amazing how much weaker he'd become since he'd first regained consciousness and it showed just how quickly the human body would deteriorate under stress, exponentially in fact. Well, Kane told himself, at least you've learned something from this experience. Self preservation was now fully his intention, and he kept his eyes on that lonely island, making small pushing motions with his now pruny hands, getting closer and closer (or so he told himself). Go home once you reach Shimagakure. Sleep on your bed. Who cares if the rest of the village is destroyed. As long as your home is all right. Well you will know all of this once you reach Shimagakure. He kept up the constant rhythm of movement, and soon it became automatic, and he wouldn't stop.

Eventually, the plank raft reached remotely close to the shore, where the water was the most shallow. Kane could no longer stand, he suspected, and he certainly didn't want to try. Instead he leaned on the edge of the curved wood and tried to upturn it, to prevent it from carrying him away. Since the wood wasn't too curved, it didn't fully upturn but that was fine with Kane, since he was now on the beach. He was still within reach of the tides and woe betide him when the tide chose to go higher. But for now, Kane looked up at the sky, his heart beating. He'd reached Shimagakure. Now for that rest.

Nadeshiko retracted her hand, nodding at the chuunin to show that she had heard her. The small girl dashed off to search for , as Misaki had said, anything that may be helpful in warming the girl who had just washed ashore to warm up. As she deftly skirted and scanned the rubble, she wondered exactly who the mystery girl was. She didn't exactly seem in any condition to talk, though from what she could tell of Misaki so far, the chuunin may be able to learn something more than what Nadeshiko had guessed. Nadeshiko spotted a large white sheet caught between some rocks, and made a a grab at it, before a strong gust of wind blew it out of her reach. Sighing, she chased after the flying cloth, feeling her cold body warming just a little from the exercise.

Nadeshiko managed to catch up to the flapping sheet, which had dropped and landed on a piece of a building as soon as the breeze which had picked it up lessened. Grabbing it, with a firm grip to make sure that this time no wind blew it out of her hands, she made her way down the beach, continuing to look for whatever may be useful, when Nadeshiko came across yet another person who looked like they had drifted ashore. It was a young man with blond hair, and he seemed almost unconscious. However, unlike the tearful and freezing girl, this young man seemed to be in better shape. Cautiously, Nadeshiko stepped towards him. "Who are you?" Nadeshiko said. There was no point asking if he was alright; the obvious answer would be a 'no', and because his condition hadn't deteriorated as far as the girl's, Nadeshiko was unsure of exactly what help she could offer him.

Perhaps for the better, Kane's rest was interrupted by a shadow overhead. The oblivion he was slowly sinking into dissipated and faded away as a young girl with black hair crept into his sight and questioned him, a bit distantly he thought, who he was. Immediately Kane was wary. He wasn't stupid - he could smell the destruction in the air. The shore was also a far cry from its previous pristine self, a completely different world from the place he had trained with his team only three days ago. So he had no idea of knowing whether this girl was a friend or enemy settler. He wasn't exactly in any state to resist though and she didn't look too harmless, chasing after her flapping cloth. So Kane decided to be honest. Well, semi.

"I'm Kane," he said lowly but civilly, studying the girl from his unique vantage point. She was starting to look a bit familiar. "Who are you?"

Unfortunately his effort to stay cool was thwarted by yet another cough spasm which sent sparkles all over Kane's vision. Kane was propelled up into a sitting position by the force and expelled a red spray onto the sand. Supporting himself with his hands on the sand, Kane wiped his mouth and grimaced. "Do you think you get get me some water please?" he asked her grudgingly.

The foot steps on the sand were drowned out by the young girl's muffled cries. Her soft pink lips were beginning to turn purple and would slowly turn blue if something weren't done soon. The rays of sunlight were starting to peak through now. On top of the warm light was also a warm voice calling out to her. The girl lifted her head so that her watery olive eyes could see the face that called out to her. If there was any energy in her body, she would've jumped at the sight of seeing someone else closer to her, but she couldn't. The young woman wrapped her arms around her soggy body, which sent the girl into the shakes even more. Her body was warm, the girl knew it, but she could not feel it. Neither of them knew who she was, but the younger girl stated that she might be from Shimagakure... That location didn't sound familiar at all...

As the appointed Chunin told the younger girl to find something warm, the tattered soul's bottom lip trembled as she tried to speak. "Dry off.... Hypothermia..." her voice was hoarse and dry since she hadn't had any water since the wreckage and couldn't steady her jaw to speak. "Motion," the girl added in as she started to take off her tattered shirt. She knew that the cold wet clothes would worsen her state and that if she remained curled up in a ball, her blood flow would slow down more and more. She knew these things, but she didn't know her name nor this island called Shimagakure. As embarrassing as it was to strip down, the girl was glad that she had undergarments on. Within the confines of the young woman's arms, Hanabira was able to get her shirt and skirt off and let the soggy wet clothing drop in the sand.

As much as she wanted to feel the warm of the body next to her, the girl knew she must stand up. With her erratic shaking hand, she gently pushed the teen to the side in order to stand on her own. Her mouth was dry, her stomach was hungry and her head was light. She could feel another black out come around as she stood, but she fought through to stay conscious. Keeping her arms crossed over her stomach and her upper body hunched over, the freezing girl finally got to her feet and began to march in place. Her feet only rose off the ground a few inches, but that's all the strength she could muster up.

The name sounded familiar...maybe she had heard one of the other shinobi in the village say it? But it was only in passing....it could have been anything else. Nadeshiko did not worry about things she wasn't concentrated on too much. " My name is Nadeshiko." Copying his example, she had given a half-answer. And not soon after that brief introduction, Kane was coughing up blood. A worried expression found its way onto her face. "I would if I could, but the water supplies nearby aren't safe." Considering how there was now blood being splattered all around, Nadeshiko was certain that she would have to take him back to the village. She was no medical expert. A flash of something caught her eye, and she dashed off briefly, before returning to Kane now with a loose dress in tow. How clothing ended up flying around a ruined beach, Nadeshiko did not know. "Can you walk?"

As the small girl started withering withering within her arms to remove the soaked clothing, a slightly worried expression started to cross her face, the girl hadn't said much at all, only a few words. But once she struggled to get to her own feet, Misaki smiled. She was moving, that was important. As she started to run in place, Misaki could see the pain in the girl's face, turning almost white as a gost... "Can you do jumping jacks sweetie? Those would get the blood flowing a little better through the rest of your body..." she mumbled quietly to the girl. She was right, motion was key in getting the girl to warm up. Misaki was getting worried that the girl wasn't speaking up more... but at least she was up and moving... "If you can handle it give those a try." she said to the girl, then stood up so she could try to find the other girl.

Once she spotted the other girl, she frowned a bit. There was someone else?? How many people could wash up on a beach in one day? "Who do we have over there?" Misaki called out, she would need to get a check list started to see who was found where... this was a tad rediculous... "How are we doing?? Who's that..." she started calling out to the other girl, and she trailed off noticing a very... decent looking young man. He didn't look too good.. but better then this poor girl here. Hmmm... interesting... she thought, but that would have to wait. She had to take care of the girl before she could think of ways to tend to this newcomer. "Check that pile of rubble over to your right." she called out in the direction of the young girl, and the young man.

She was close enough to Misaki to see that the girl's survival instincts were kicking in; she was wriggling her way out of the soaked rags that she was wearing. Misaki shouted something to her, and Nadeshiko turned away from Kane for a moment to look at the pile of rubble that Misaki had indicated. Apparently the chuunin knew what she was doing, because Nadeshiko's eyes quickly managed to spot the edge of a thick, woolly blanket. Again, her mind flashed to thoughts of why there was so much random cloth lying around, but it left her mind as quickly as it had entered. Walking towards the pile, she deftly plucked out the blanket, which was surprisingly soft and dry (although there was a large hole in the middle), and , with all the things she had gathered held firmly in her thin arms, handed them to Misaki.

The soggy girl was starting to dry off now. The wind from the breeze was causing the water to evaporate, but it was also chilling her skin at the same time. "I'll... try," she managed to whisper as the woman requested that she try jumping jacks. That feat would definitely get her blood moving. Her joints were like rusted hinges on a door and didn't want to move. She tried her hardest though and managed to get her hands above her head.

After just a few jumping jacks, the girl had to stop. Her body was so dehydrated that any more work would cause her to faint and fall into a dark critical condition. Her chest was burning from just that little exercise and her olive eyes smiled when she spotted the blankets being brought to the woman that had held her. "Arigatou," the pale skinned girl said, as she moved back over to Misaki to be wrapped in the warmth of the blankets.
