Howdy do, good people! Here I come, arm cannon charged with another interview!

Today, I talk with fellow Megaman buff, Ribbin. He is one of the many who has recently DL'd the much awaited Megaman 9, Capcom's latest gem in what is considered it's longest running series!

And he's has offered to share hiw thoughts about this fine game!

NOTE: Like Brawl before it, this too is a popular game. However, this does not mean I will be interviewing everyone and their gramma about it. I had to scale down my choices good and well, yes?

Without further ado, let's start!

"Well friend! I can see that you've throughly enjoyed MM9! After having played and beaten it, how do you feel about it?"

Ribbin
Well, I have to admit, beating the game gave me quite a rush. It was incredible. I've played old Mega Man games back in the day, but it was different playing a brand new one in my prime. It was something else. I don't want to give anything away on the ending, but I'll say that it was directed towards people who have played the games all the way through, and since I've beaten Mega Man 1-8.5, I felt well taken care of. It was an incredible experience and I can definitely see it beating out Mega Man 2.

I see! MM2 was pretty epic IMO, what with the music and all. So, What was your favorite part about it?"

Ribbin
Now, Mega Man 9 is probably the hardest of them all, and so it can get pretty frustrating. All in all, it's just like the others except for two main things that I really loved. It seemed like all the levels were really creative, all the small things they added to make each level different and stand out on it's own, they did a phenomenal job. The thing I liked the most was that the bonuses in the menu. To compete with 360 achievements (which I'm sadly addicted to) they put in challenges. There are 50 challenges and there are so many that it's almost impossible to get them all, but at the same time very easy to get a lot. The challenges were very well done, and have killed any desire I had to buy the game for my 360 just for achievements. So, in a summary, my favorite part of the game is that it's a classic 8 bit Mega Man game, with new bonuses like challenges, and will only get better once the DLC kicks in.

"Ah yes, I heard about the sweet little dealy you can ge through DLC. But I shan't say it here. Spoilers, y'know?"

"With every new MM game, comes a slew of new Robot masters! Who would you say is your favorite Robot Master and Special Weapon be?"

Ribbin
My favorite Robot Master would have to be Tornado Man. It's probably his similarities to Sage Harpuia that make him awesome, but he stands alone as a Robot Master in his own class. But to be honest, I think ALL of the Robot Masters in this game are awesome. I think they tried to best the Robot Masters from Mega Man 2. With amount of bosses they've done already, I can't believe they came out with such great ones. They did an outstanding job. As for my favorite weapon? I'd say Hornet Man's weapon, it homes in on items and brings them to you. I love items that do that.

"Mmm, Tornado Man. As a fan of Wind Powers, I approve!"

"Now as they say, nobody's perfect, not even awesome games. Was there anything you disliked about it?"

Ribbin
There are a couple things I don't like about the game. When you do the stages after the Robot Masters, you can't save in between. They did this because it's been like that throughout all the games, and they need that for the classic sense that the game strived for. Although when they fixed this is Mega Man 8, I was really happy. So I was still a little upset when they changed it back. The game is also really hard, probably too hard. But that's the classic part again. And with the amount of times I'm going to be beating this game, I'm sure I'll get used to it. That's how all the Mega Fanatics do.

"Ah yes. I remember failing a few times back in GutsMan's stange in MM1. And those damn spikes... HOW THE HELL DO SPIKES KILL A ROBOT?!? scream

Um, but I digress...

"Remember the odd boxart they did for the early Megaman games? They were weird, seeing as they depicted Mega as like an old dude with a blaster. xd Now Capcom actually released conceptual "box art" for MM9. They got the blaster right, of course, but it still has that olden-style charm that the originals had. What did you think after having seen that?"

Ribbin
There's not too much to say about the box art. They're going back to their roots, and they're doing it with a sense of humour. You gotta love that. Capcom of America isn't embarrassed about they whole thing, and they shouldn't be. So I was impressed. I lol'd.

It was quite funny! I was shocked when I first saw it.

So, with such good feedback on it so far, I'm betting you'd highly recommend this game, yes?

Ribbin
I would absolutely recommend this game. If you're a Mega Man fan, it's a must have. It's incredibly cheap for what you're getting, and the DLC looks promising. There's still so much I haven't figured out in it yet, and I can't wait to delve into it and find out. I'll warn you now, this game is not for the weak. You're gonna need skills, and you best be familiar with an armcannon. Because it's going to take some mad skillz and a little PAU to clear the name of Light.

In a final note: Listen to the Megas. Sweet. Thanks for having me T! ;D

Excellent! I guess that wraps it up then!

*lights go out*

Huh? Hey! Who turned out the lights?!?

*lights turn on*

What the? Well if it isnt our top moderator, Fish! What brings you here?

*attendant hands me a paper*

Oh! I forgot! I was supposed to ask a question about the first ever FEMALE Robot master, Splash Woman!

Ribbin
I'm gonna say, she was probably too easy, but her weapon seemed to be one of the best

Umm, Laser Trident, right?

Ribbin
Yea, it's awesome

Meta_Fish
Laser Trident is the s**t. It shoots through shields, and breaks down walls.

Ribbin
I dunno, maybe it was just me, but I found her pattern really easy

Meta_Fish
I got it eventually, but I just hate learning patterns. I just want to get in there and beat the s**t out of them.

I was too excited.

Ribbin
xD Yea, she was the first for you

Meta_Fish
=D

Excellent! Again, thanks again for this awesome interview! And many thanks for your input, Fish!

Thanks for tuning in! And see ya real soon!

For a while now, people who wanted to play Super Mario Bros on the emulator FCEU would have to deal with a glitched level 0-1. Unfortunately, this was the only level you could play, generally making the rom seem relatively useless.

I learned recently how to avoid this little issue to get into the actual game, and now I will teach others how to do the same.

Hey everybody, it's been a while, but it's time for another review.

Today I'm reviewing The King of Fighters '94 for the Neo Geo/Arcade.

User Image

The King of Fighters '94, or simply labeled KOF '94, takes place in 1994 (obviously.) This is the first game in the series. Originally this was supposed to be a crossover game of SNK's classic fighters as well as other games. The game features characters from Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Ikari Warriors, and Psycho Soldiers. Now, because the of the fact that the Art of Fighting characters are in the game with Fatal Fury characters and look like they haven't aged a day (despite the fact that those games take place 15 years prior to the Fatal Fury game) SNK decided to not include the KOF series in the same time line, this way, the Art of Fighting characters can be along side Fatal Fury characters without having aged.

Plot:
Invitations for a world wide King of Fighters tournament have been sent out. These invitations simply have the letter R on them. The greatest fighters from around the world will soon gather for another KOF tournament, but who is this mystery R person?

Gameplay:
KOF '94 has the same control style that various SNK games have, which is a four button system consisting of A, B, C, and D. The controls are smooth and responsive, nothing seems forced. KOF '94 has fast, fun, and intense game play.

When the player starts the game, he is greeted with a character select screen:

User Image

Unlike previous KOF tournaments, the rules state that competitors will be in 3 person teams based on what country they represent. Like I said earlier, you have characters from other SNK titles, but you also have some new characters, which include the Japan Team, the USA Team, and the 2 members of the Korea Team

Here is a list of all the teams/characters (Characters underlined are original to the series):

Japan Team (Hero Team)

* Kyo Kusanagi
* Benimaru Nikaido
* Goro Daimon

Italy Team (Fatal Fury Team)

* Terry Bogard
* Andy Bogard
* Joe Higashi

Mexico Team (Art of Fighting Team)

* Ryo Sakazaki
* Robert Garcia
* Takuma Sakazaki

Brazil Team (Ikari Warriors Team)

* Heidern (Commander of the Ikari Warriors)
* Ralf Jones (Paul in the original Ikari Warriors arcade game)
* Clark Steel (Vince in the original Ikari Warriors arcade game)

China Team (Psycho Soldiers Team)

* Athena Asamiya
* Sie Kensou
* Chin Gentsai

England Team (Women's Team)

* Yuri Sakazaki (Art of Fighting)
* Mai Shiranui (Fatal Fury)
* King (Art of Fighting)

USA Team (Sport's Team)

* Heavy D!
* Lucky Glauber
* Brian Battler

Korea Team

* Kim Kaphwan (From Fatal Fury)
* Chang Koehan
* Choi Bounge

Once you pick your team, you must then decide the order in which they will fight:
User Image

Each character has their own unique move set. One great thing about having characters from fighting games such as Fatal Fury and the Art of Fighting is, that if you are good with characters from those respective games, then you will be good with them in King of Fighters 94, as their move sets have not been altered that much. Each character also has a super desperation move, which is a super special that characters can perform when their special bar is maxed out. SDM's can be performed by doing a complex control command, for example, Terry Bogard's super desperation move called "Power Geyser" can be performed by pressing the following combination:

qcb,db,f+B+C

That translates to quarter circle back, half circle forward, and then pressing B and C at the same time. If you perform that combination with Terry Bogard when his max bar is full, you should get something that looks like this:

User Image

If you finish your opponent off with a super desperation move, then the screen will flicker white and red.

Visuals:
I love the way the sprites look in the KOF series. They kind of seem like they are bulking out a little bit, as if it gave the illusion of a 3D effect. The sprites though for KOF 94 are the same in KOF 95, however they will change for most characters come KOF 96, and so forth. That is one complaint that some people seem to have with this series. There is a nice detail to the stages.

Audio:
The music in the game is fantastic. Lots of great catchy, memorable tracks that I would personally listen to even when I'm not playing the game. A lot of the sound effects come from previous fighting games, such as the Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury, which adds a nice charm to it, unfortunately though, some of the voice works were from previous games, leaving certain characters having less quality in their voice than others, for example, the voice tracks for all the Fatal Fury characters in the game were taken from Fatal Fury Special, while the Art of Fighting characters had their voices taken directly from the Art of Fighting 2. These characters have less sound quality in their voice than the characters who are original to this game. However, this does not take away from the fun factor.

Overall:
KOF '94 is a great game, and I recommend any fighting game enthusiast or anybody who is interested in SNK/The King of Fighters to play this one. The game can be purchased on the Wii Virtual Console as well as it's remake King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout on the PS2. It's amazing that this game was originally supposed to be just a simple crossover, but it turned into it's own series with a great storyline and excellent game play. I'm going to give this one an 8 out of 10. It's a great game, but it's sequels would improve on it quite a bit.

Well, that's it for this review, thanks for reading.

Nice review! Makes me really want to play the game, though the special moves do sound really complicated. Quarter circle back?Half circle forward? Dude, that sounds hard!

It's not as hard as it sounds.

The key is to give the movement on the joystick/d-pad a sliding motion.

Awesome review. And I agree with the pixel thing, I like the illusion of how they made 3-D in this.
