"There is a simple cure for that you know. Strange you haven't figured it out yet"

"And no, it doesn't involve having your feathers bent or anything" he said before she could ask

Lenore perked up.

"Really? So I can wear long sleeves and stuff?" She asked. Oh, that would be heaven. She'd spent the winter wearing a shawl, and she'd definitely like to switch to coats.

"How can I fix them?"

"As long as you can find some able to fit you I don't see why not"

Birvan grabed one of her arms and raised it, so all the feathers streched up
He pressed his finger on the edge but strangely it didn't cut him or make him bleed. With a wave like motion he ran his finger along all the feathers of both wings. If it wasn't for the pressure one might have said he wasn't touching them

"There, it's done. This is a simple air shield spell applied directly on the object to protect. Not very usefull unless you want to make sharp edges dull or preventing them from getting wet, dusty, broken etc"

"Being part of your body you won't need to touch the edges everytime you want to apply it or undo it, like I did"

Lenore looked down at her wings in fascination, then smiled up at Birvan.

"Thank you!" She said, hugging him briefly before letting him go. "Thank you very much!"

Birvan grinned and hugged her back

"You're quite welcome. I have just one favour to ask you though. Don't tell any of the adults about me... specially Maggie and Jabir"

Len nodded. She liked keeping secrets.

"I won't tell anybody, I promise!" She said, picking up Nevermore and strapping it to her back again.

"Thanks. You can say hi for me to Rex and Dei if you like"

"And I must get going now. See ya SilverBlade"

He turned around one of the corners and simply disapeared without a sound. If one was to follow him or to try to find him from the air, he was no where to be seen. He had simply vanished

Idle Hands

"I'm so freaking bored."

Lenore sat on the couch despondently, sighing. There was absolutely nothing to do.

"No, you're Lenore. And I'm Oni. And this is the box Yelling Lady put me in."

Lenore glanced over at Onstantine. He'd been stuck in a birdcage by Crow, and was currently trying to saw his way out with little success.

"Why did Yelling Lady put me in a box?"

"I dunno. Just because, I guess."

Getting up and wandering over to the cage, Lenore watched Oni intently.

"Why d'you have a little person in you? Is that the one who's talking? Is it dead?"

"I...don't know. Oni is Oni. Can the Lenore let me out? I don't like being in the box." He said, hovering around in the cage uncomfortably.

"Sure."

Undoing the latch and sticking her hand inside, Lenore grabbed Oni and pulled him out.

"Wanna play?"

"I don't know any games."

Glad to be free, Onstantine zoomed from one end of the room to the other, spinning. The other Sprockets watched him with mistrust, muttering amongst themselves as he crashed into a wall.

"Ouch."

Recovering quickly, he zoomed back over to Lenore, nesting in her hair.

"What does the Lenore want to do?"

Sitting down again with a pained sigh, she shrugged.

"Wanna blow stuff up?"

"Yes, yes! Oni is good at that!"

Dislodging himself from his nest, Oni hovered over to the blaring television.

"BOOM!"

Nothing happened for a second - then, suddenly, the screen went dead and smoke started streaming from the television's insides. Oni laughed and moved over to stereo.

"BOOM!"

The stereo spat sparks and belched smoke, crackling static before the speakers went dead.

"What next?"

"The microwave!"

BANG.

"The fridge!"

SPLUT.

"The DVD player!"

SKLRT.

"The- MUM?!"

Oni paused, buzzing slightly.

"I don't think I can blow up Yelling Lady. She's too-"

"Onstantine. Cage. NOW."

Crow had walked in at exactly the wrong moment. Staring at the wreckage Oni and Len had wrought, she pointed at the cage furiously.

"Uh oh."

Zooming back to his cage, Onstantine hid towards the bottom, quailing under Crow's furious glare.

"The Lenore made me do it!"

"Traitor!"

The Fall of Sehletah

Shadows were moving across the ground. They reared up into hideous, rotting solid forms, wielding twisted knives and howling with dead voices. They marched forward towards the gates of the city of Sehletah, eyeless sockets black and depthless as they stared the sentries down. Bells could be heard ringing within the depths of the city - worthless warning for the death to come.

At the head of the shadow horde, the Elhkagir rode on in pride. His face was hidden behind his warrior's mask, but his oil-slick eyes could be seen gleaming in the cold starlight.

Soulless, mad eyes.

The horde behind him chittered and clicked their jaws, long black tongues tasting the air.

"Eyeh ya Azhumn mesht!" The Ehlkagir said.

"EYEH YA AZHUMN MESHT!" The horde screamed.

For the glory of the Scourge.

"Eyeh ya ysht Elhkagir!"

"EYEH YA YSHT ELHKAGIR!"

For the glory of Death's Voice.

The city was fortified well. But the horde moved as shadows along the ground. They loped forward on all fours, laughing in keening voices, scaling the great city's walls and infiltrating the outer defenses. The sentries were the first to perish, as the Rippers, the Zeh-Hakin, screamed in mourning voices and slashed with their heavy lead knives.

The Ehlkagir listened outside the gates to the sounds of the dying, head tilted to one side in child-like consideration at the noise. At his side, a creature faceless but for a skull-splitting mouth lurked.

"May Jeddeth go?" It asked him. Nodding, he looked down at the creature slowly and removed his mask.

The Ehlkagir had been handsome once. But now his face was drawn, his skin was sickly and pale, and there was a fever in his crazed eyes. His laugh was a cold and shrieking sound.

"Go. Kill all you find, and bring me their hearts." He said. Drawing out a black bladed knife from its sheath, the Ehlkagir nudged his mount forward as the creature called Jeddeth loped towards the city wall.

The warning bells continued to ring. The Ehlkagir waited patiently until the great gates opened for him, admitting him into the dying city. He rode forward with a wicked smile at the sounds of the screams.

"Eyeh ya Azhumn mesht!"

----

"JULIAN!"

Julian's eyes snapped open. He was shaking violently and screaming, half-strangled by his blankets and by the hands clinging to him, shaking him back into consciousness.

"Julian, stop it! Wake up!"

Crow's voice was terrified. He clamped his jaw shut to choke down another scream and tried to twist away, slipping onto the floor. Crow was dragged down with him, landing hard. Ethan and Lenore were awake as well, staring at him.

"Are you alright?" Len asked in a frightened voice.

Julian nodded slowly, raising a shaking hand to his face and brushing away sweat-soaked hair.

"I'm alright. It was... it was just a nightmare."

No one looked satisfied with his response, Crow least of all. Sitting on the floor in a slight state of shock, Julian winced as he felt stinging pain all down his face. He glanced down at his hands and was slightly unsurprised to see the nails coated with blood. As the gouges he'd torn into his face healed over, he shook his head and shrugged Crow's hands off his shoulders.

"I'm fine," he mumbled, staggering into the bathroom. He locked the door behind him and sank down to the floor, feeling sick.

It's been so long. So long without these dreams.

Not really dreams, though. Memories. Collapsing on his side, he shivered uncontrollably, staring at his bloody hands.
