"What if I sink?"
"I doubt you will. 'Sides, it was your idea. Go on, just... I dunno. Doggy paddle or something."
Len stuck her tongue out at Julian and stuck a toe in the water warily. She'd never gone swimming before, but it couldn't be that hard, right? With a shrug, she flapped up into the air and landed in the shallow end of the pool in a rather duck-like fashion.
"AUGH! COLD!"
Flapping wildly, she landed clumsily on the side of the pool and shook herself, feather tail sodden and limp.
"It's freezing," she complained to Julian, who grinned.
"Like I said - your idea."

"Ewwi?"
"Yes?"
"Adat?" Shamilade asked, pointing to the snorkel on Erishi's head.
"This is a Snorkel! Isn't that a funny word?" Replied the crazy purpled haired girl, beaming. "Snorkel! Snor-kel!"
"Ewwi, you cwazy." Shammi shook her head. Erishi only beamed. What a bright child Shamilade was!
"Look, Shammi! We will help you conquer your fear of water!" Erishi said, opening the door to the pool room. Taking one look at the water, Shammi immediantly tried to chew her way through Erishi's arm.
"NO! Yoo yeave! DWOWN!"
"That was one time, Shammi. Get over it." Erishi rolled her eyes.
Shammi's eyes darted in every direction untill they landed on Lenore and the funny man with her. "Yen! Yen! Save Shammi!" She little chameleon girl howled, still trying to rip her way through Erishi's arm.
"Try all you want, Shammi, I'll just replace it with metal. And then you'll never chew through it!" Shaking her head over Shammi's silliness, she smiled at Lenore. "Hello, Lenore! Hello, person! We have come to help Shammi not hate water!"

"Huh? Oh - SHAMMI!"
Lenore gave a delighted squawk and skittered over, positively bouncing.
"Ooooh, you grew! Lookit you!" she said, clapping her hands. Whistling over at Julian to follow, she grinned at Erishi. "That's Julian. He's Mum's brother."
Belatedly frowning, she looked back at Shammi.
"How come your scared of water, Shammi? Nothin' to be scared of," she said, looking concerned.
Julian approached casually, waving.
"Hello," he said to Erishi politely. "Pleased to meet you."
"Don't mind him. He's a stick."
"Hey! I am not!"

"Yen!" Finally escaping Erishi's arms, she scrambled over to Lenore. "Hi! Save Shammi? Ewwi, snowkel, wawa, NO!" She moved behind Lenore, peering out at Erishi and keeping her other eye on the water. Water. Not worth being around unless there was an Ike involved.
Considering Julian for a moment, Erishi tugged her face mask over her eyes and moved the snorkel near her mouth. "Do people fetch you, Mr. Stick?" She asked in a very serious tone. She examined her arm, which had a few streaks of blood on it from Shammi's escape. She sighed happily. "My Shammi is getting to be so dangerous. How sweet."

"Er, no... they do poke me with them once and a while, though." Julian replied easily. Digging around in his pockets, he offered Erishi a couple bandaids he usually reserved for Len's daily bleeding injuries. "Here. Shammi's a cutie - she's a chameleon, right?"
Len listened intently to Shammi, trying to place the words carefully. Nodding as she translated, she knelt down next to the girl.
"Aw, Shammi, it's not so bad, honest!" She said. "See, I went in the water, and I'm okay." She added, pointing at her waterlogged tail feathers. "Swimming's fun."
Not that she knew, but still. She had to show some support.

"Band-aids are good." Erishi haphazardly stuck a few on the bleeding spots with her right hand. "Of course Shammi is cute. She is Erishi's angel." She gave Shammi a fawning smile before turning back to Julian. "Yes, she is a Chameleon kitten. Very cute. And now she is pointy and sharp, and cute! I approve."
"Swimmy? DWOWN!" Shammi huffed, glaring at Erishi and the water. What was the easiest way to explain why she didn't like water...? Ah! Smiling, she said in a very evil (Well, evil for Shammi) voice: "Mommy." And she pointed to Erishi. That should be reason enough for ANYONE to dislike water.

Noting the tone in Shammi's voice, Len gave Erishi a curious look.
"Huh. Your mummy doesn't seem the type to do swimming, though... what'd she do? Use a spritzer on you?" She asked sympathetically. She could recall Crow using the devious weapon more than once when Len had been younger - it had broken her of the habit of climbing the curtains fairly fast.
Julian nodded knowingly.
"Len's about the same. She tears up everything in sight, but she's too cute to yell at." He said, thinking mournfully of the many, many, many things Lenore inadvertently broke on a regular basis.

"Shammi, wawa. Bwiiing! Ewwi yeave! Dwown!" Shammi waved her arms around. "Wet, ikky!"
"My drapes are in very bad shape since Shammi grewded claws. But they were very ugly drapes to start with." Nodding, Erishi balanced on one foot. "Has Mr. Stick come to swim, too?"

"Oh, okay..."
Not quite sure what "bwing" could mean, Len chewed at her fingernails in thought. Shammi seemed deadset against swimming - maybe she just needed a little encouragement.
"Hold on a sec, Shammi." She said, standing and going for the ladder into the shallow end. "See? I'll go in, then you'll see. Nothin' to be scared of."
Lingering on the top rung of the ladder, Len fidgeted as the cold water chilled her ankles. With a sigh, she let go of the rail and let herself fall backwards into the pool.
SPLOOSH.
"ARGH! I mean, uh, YAY!" She said, spitting out a bit of water and peering back up at Shammi.
"See? No drowning! It's safe!"
Biting his lip so he wouldn't laugh at Lenore, Julian shook his head in response.
"Nah. Just here to make sure Len doesn't dro-er." He caught himself, glancing warily down at Shammi. "I mean, I'm just watching Len. Not much of a swimmer. What about you?"

"Hehe." Shammi giggled, moving a hand up to cover her mouth. Len was FUNNY! She skittered over to the side of the pool and peered at the girl, chewing on her fingers. Dipping her tail in the water, she pulled it back out quickly. "Brrr!"
"I don't think my hand is water safe." Prodding the metal appendage, she frowned. "It might zap people. But I like swimming! It's fun, and sloshy!"

Teeth chattering, Len stubbornly started paddling around in the water. Swimming with wings was a bit clumsier than she'd thought.
"Yeah, it's a little chilly. " She said. "You get used to it pretty fast, though."
She beckoned Shammi closer, holding her arms out as though to catch her.
"C'mon, Shammi. I won't let you drown."

Well, if Len was willing to play in the cold, coldness, Shammi could at least join her. She crawled as close to the edge of the pool as she could before jumping for Len.

"Gotcha," Len said, catching Shammi. Wading into the shallowest part of the pool, she forced herself to stop shivering.
"See? It's nice." She said, though she held the girl a few inches above the water. "Do you want to try to swim? I promise I won't let you go under."
Julian arched a brow as Shammi jumped in.
"Looks like she's getting over the phobia," he remarked to Erishi mildly.

"No dwown Shammi." She shook a claw at Lenore. "I come back. Hawnt yoo." She gave Len a very serious face. "Seewious."
"That's strange. She's allways scared when I'm around." Erishi frowned and tilted her head to one side. You could nearly hear the gears in her head turning over that bit of information. Her face brightened when she figured out the reason. "She must only like cold water! How silly!"
