I think you mean "sheer power of will" or "sheer willpower". I would be quick to remind you that sheer willpower isn't going to stop a wildfire, or a twister, and similarly, I doubt it will stop any spirits who really want to have a go at you.

Even so, you're the second person who has told me--and I agree with--that communing with spirits is [like] praying. Funny how there is a kernel of truth to that--what is considered unholy in one church is commonplace in the next.

Not to say that banishing spirits is altogether a bad thing--far from it, I think--but it isn't very...diplomatic. Do you use spirits and dispose of them? Do you treat them with open hospitality or open hostility? I must wonder. One can be very strong, but have little power, and one can be very powerful and have little wisdom.

I try not to use tools that will end with an exorcism.

Luna-wa says :

agreed that you need more than willpower to stop a fire, but as i see it, things in the spiritual realm are easier to get a handle on, confidence of abilities is the key, i KNOW i am good with spirits, i KNOW i have the power to banish or call them, and i KNOW that if something happens i can protect my own.
banishing is only a last resort, if a spirit would outright harm someone i care for then YES i will banish him/her, but thats not to say im hostle about it... i ask the spirit first to leave kindly and not to return, that i value the insight it has bestowed upon me and my friends but it is no longer welcome here, and if it pursues me then i just expend energy and send it on its way the not so nice way.

and i just though i might add this,
some may not use them out of caution and i applaud this, if you are unsure you will surely be taken advantage of.
i myself find the boards to be a bit like trying to attract one small particle of dust and getting a bunch of fluff
i use my tarot cards more of a chance to reach the person or spirit you ate trying to reach

but i cant stand when people dismiss them as evil... because it is a tool that was perverted as evil by movies. its not like the those horror movies say, just like witches are not green skinned evil ugly women. please be real... we cant dismiss one myth as stupid without dismissing another as well

And how often does asking them "to leave kindly and not to return" work? One day, Luna-wa, you might find yourself way over your head with things. In all things--and I should say with magic especially--caution is key.

But, I see that this conversation is going nowhere fast, yes? Let's let it rest as it is.

I dont see Ouija boards as bad in themselves, but they have gained a bad reputation and a bad reputation is hard to dispute, no matter where you got it from.

As I said earlier, I think it is a tool, which in itself is not inherently evil. I DO believe, however, that the correct use of one is an extremely difficult and complex task to perform. People who have absolutely NO IDEA how to use Ouija boards end up using them and they end up with something they didnt intend to deal with in the first place.

I think of Ouija boards sort of like I think of guns. GUNS dont kill people. PEOPLE WITH GUNS kill people. OUIJA BOARDS dont call up harmful things, STUPID PEOPLE WITH OUIJA BOARDS call up harmful things.

You see what I'm saying, yo? whee

i have to defend myself once again, most spirits will listen on the basis that i have shown respect and i dont generally call up "bad things" i was just pointing out the fact that im not rude about it is all

but i agree
this conversation will go nowhere fast due to two very different point of views. i respect your view but i dont agree
so merry meet and merry part i say ^_^

My friend burned hers after the use of it. I dont recall why she bought it however. I however believe with the people in the beginning of this topic that the only thing you get from it is what you put into your head about it. But everyone has there own views.

*sigh* Not all spirits are demons or human souls, Ummei. The real problem is that Ouija boards don't have any...spirit-spam filters, so to speak.

Because of contrary beliefs, Ouija Boards are a portal from Present to Past. Such as, you talking to someone past, or a younger form of someone else. But, none the less. Ouija boards are simply a tool of devination and spiritual blessings. Personally, I don't wish to get rid of my Ouija... my friend protected himself, and, I guess, let something out of the board before hand. Something killed him. The police found him dead, no scratches, but blood coming from his nose with the burning board in the room.
