Not bad at all. Not very logical, but still enjoyable.

Loved almost every minute of it! Gotta be my favorite so far of the three! I, quite to the contrary of basically everyone else, understood why the hymn was playing. (other than the fact that they are Cat NUNS) It just fit. It's one of my dad's favorites, a favorite of mine as well, and I was teary a bit, surprised almost that nobody else did. I know I gasped and cried despite the fact that we've basically known all along what Boe was going to say, and Tennant is so brilliant here it's just fantastic. The shock mixed in with the sadness and everything else is just so perfectly portrayed, and you know he knows what it implies.
Martha, despite all my earlier rants of hating, has grown on me quite a bit since the season's beginning, and I see why everyone else took a liking to her. She's not just another Rose, she's much more headstrong, and she's not just there for the adventure. She won't let him blow off questions about himself, and she's making the Doctor 'give her a proper answer'; and for once, he does. I love the descriptions he says, and I've got this gorgeous place pictured, and his emotions are just so on key. Reminds me of how I felt with (movie-version) Gandalf's description of 'after the grey rain curtain rolls back' .....very moving..
As for this weeks' not-so-baddies, I had never heard of them before. Either way it didn't make too much sense, but the CGI with the flying car was good. Definitely reminded me of watching some old episodes, somehow. (I looked the Macra up later)
And of course the silliness with all the different car occupants....very strange but just fit in with the rest. The 'patches' seemed like the end result of drugs + the nicotine thing. 0_o... strangely disturbing.. especially the honesty patch... *wants to use one on sister*
Oh yeah, and I'm actually very surprised that it didn't mention Saxon. I had read something previous that said Shakespeare Code was the only one without the keyword in it. It's only 3 stories in, so who knows? I'm gonna re-watch it later with my sister who missed it. (I apparently didn't get over the bizarreness of the catperson+human=kittens thing fast enough to register that one of the kittens talked. o_0) I thought Tenny already said he wasn't a cat person?! He even referenced the cat nuns then too! (Fear Her)
All in all, 5/5. The acting was spot-on, even if the monsters weren't exactly scary, and perhaps they threw logic out the window, but hey, it's Doctor Who. I'm looking forward to Sec in 'Daleks in Manhattan' just as much as I looked forward to this.

Roobarb eek Russell T. Davies wrote this episode? My favourite episode? Now, according to the rules of my clan, I have to go poke myself in the eye... I can't believe HE wrote THAT. Except for all the married people - maybe it was a clue and I should have guessed. WHAT?!?!?!?!? eek burning_eyes I noticed the opening credits didn't say anything, much like 'Runaway Bride' (also by him) That's crazy! The only thing that would have ever drawn my attention to him as the writer was a)'all the married people' and b)the token gay characters. The whole "we're not sisters, we're married." thing, and the two blonde girls huddled up with each other in the car with the black cat (that got eaten by the crabs).....wow. No wonder the numbers thing was way off...at least there's no more episodes in year five billion anymore. Oh yeah, Ten mentioned that he was 'too busy showing off' with Martha, but I also seem to remember Nine taking Rose to see 'the end of the world' (and Boe was there too) plus Ten taking Rose to New^15 Earth.......this is getting confusing. The 'last of the timelords' monologue thingy and Ten's sadness reminded me of the tree lady Jade with Nine and the only time we saw Nine cry. Ten has officially brought back the survivor's guilt, only now he's got this enigma on his hands too. Sweet!

I must have been the only person who didn't like it then? Traffic jams annoy me, watching massive life-long traffic jams on T.V terrifies me. It was also overly sentimental with the singing and stuff. Poor Face of Boe. I wanted to give him a hug. Hug the face! Hug the face!
yay for sci fi

Compared to the previous two it was definitely better- in fact, better than the one afterwards as well... I didn't really like the drug patches though, just didn't seem to realistic. Well maybe, but not to that extent.... hmm... *thinks* It wasn't excellent really, but it was pretty good. And it was pretty ... wow to see the Doctor actually talk about what happened and talk about Gallifrey and such, because he's always such a closed person and it's like all of a sudden he's spilling everything. Sad to see the face of Bo go too. Though it looked kinda strange when he was just lying on the ground there... Martha is alright as well, I think she's pretty good.

This episode was one of the best of a not-so-great series. I'm trying not to think about how a woman could give birth to kittens, though...
I'm not a huge fan of series 3, probably because i find Martha incurably irritating, but this was among the best. I also like the last 3 episodes of the series, for the obvious reason.

Remember, they've said in earlier stories that the Human Race is mixed up with other peoples across the galaxy by that time. Brannigan's wife looks pure Human but isn't.

The patches were actually pretty believable to me people always want a way to escape from a feeling whether it's negative or positive. It was sad when the face of boa died . Ten feels so guilty on the inside if I remember correctly he just avoided talking about it with Rose he straight out lied to Martha until the end of the episode. He needed to talk about it...
In short I really liked the episode. mrgreen
Edit by Ceribri: Please don't post spoilers in here unless they refer to the episode Gridlock or earlier.

Kittens!!! blaugh I thought this was a really great episode. Who cares aabout logic, it's Sci-Fi for godness sake! And I thought it was great that everyone in all the cars would sing that song, and I think it was a way of remembering what it was like before they got stuck in a huge traffic jam, and helped give them hope for getting out and seeing the surface. And I'm really new to Doctor Who and didn't know anything about his home other than it was destroyed. To see him describe it, and be so sad, it made me cry. Just wondering, could he hypothetically go back in time to visit Gallifrey again?

pikalex88 Just wondering, could he hypothetically go back in time to visit Gallifrey again? Have you seen the season one episode "Father's Day"? That by itself basically explains why, plus the fact that I think it was sealed off or something so that no-one could go back....not to mention if he could go back he must have tried already, and that could also mean he could go get Rose..and since he hasn't, then it must be impossible.. sweatdrop

Thanks for clearing that up!

Thanks for clearing that up! Wow, that is new! Yay for new fans! I'm assuming you're from the US too? Check your television for some kind of PBS (public broadcasting) station... it'd be one of the free channels that any television gets. I know that North Carolina and Virginia have UNC TV ... UNC is showing Doctor Who starting with the very first Ninth Doctor episode this Friday or something.... PM me and let me know what state you're in and I'll try and find a station that would show it. Otherwise, PM and I can find you a link to the episodes online (don't worry, not a download)
