Moreau put the needle to Anatoli's arm. After only a moment the trigger was pushed and a the injection was mearly a quick snap and sting. "Well, now that that's done." Moreau set the needle gun back in the case and closed it.
Moreau extended his hand. "Well Anatoli, it's been a..." Moreau paused. "...pleasure so far. We'll talk more soon. I'll have one of my guards take you down by jeep to your place and carry in your luggage."
Moreau smirked, a mean idea crossing his mind. "I could probably let you know about other Jewish people on the island. You might want to stop by Duplex 30, she's very nice. Also, you may want to check on duplex 26, you'd probably get along okay with her."
Shortly thereafter you are lead to a duplex. Number 69 is on the door. You notice many duplexes down here somewhere close to 100 if you count. It can only be assumed that these are for visitors, or senior staffing. People who'd obviously want to live close and comfortable to the jungle and the beach.
Of course, they are on the other side of the fence.

The shot was over, but Anatoli still felt dizzy and on-edge. He stood quiet for a few moments for the anxiety to wind down a little, limply holding out his hand for what could be one of the weakest handshakes Moreau's ever recieved.
"Yeah... yeah, a pleasua indeed," he said lamely, before a faint smile tugged at his lips at the mention of two apparently nice Jewish girls. Hopefully they weren't horrifying like the women his mother set him up with! Who knows, they might actually enjoy his company without trying to degrade him in some way. Oh, but a man can dream. "Alright, thanks for lettin' me know. I'll be sure ta pay 'em a visit."
He tipped his hat before waving good-bye and being lead out by a guard back down to the jeep. He remained silent throughout the trip until he and his luggage are deposited out in front of duplex 69. Luckily for him, it was a downstairs duplex so he didn't have to drag his obese cat up the stairs.
Once the luggage was taken inside, Anatoli took off his fedora, loosened his tie, and sprawled out on the bed with a deep sigh.

A letter in a white envelope is posted on the door of Duplex #69. On the envelope is WELCOME is big friendly letter. Inside it is a neatly hand written letter:
Welcome to the Island!
This document is intended to serve as a "welcome tour" to life on the island. Please read it entirely before venturing beyond your front door it contains information that is critical to the island´s day to day operations and to your own survival.
First is your duplex. This is your home, you will find the access code on your dresser, please note your duplex number. Take care of it, there is no regular cleaning service here. Note the intercom, dialing zero will get you an operator at the labs, you may request personal items for your comfort. Nearly any reasonable request will be honored except communication gear. Dial # + (a duplex number) to call another duplex.
Beyond your duplex is the village proper, the village center contains the cafeteria, it serves hot food three times a day but is always open for snacks. There is also an entertainment room with a vast library.
However the most important aspect of the island are the residents of the village. Pleased do not be alarmed by their strange appearances, these people are human beings and do not appreciate being gawked at. They are all the (mostly unwilling) subjects of Dr. Moreau’s experiments that fuse normal humans with animal DNA, producing an animal human hybrid. The changes are caused by a series of five injections administered by lab personnel. The first shot causes no changes. It prepares the body, probably at the molecular and cellular level. The proceeding injections induce physical changes in the body with hours of the injection. The process is incredibly painful.
The villagers are prevented from escaping by the natural remoteness of the island and chips that are implanted under the skin at the base of the neck. They enable the labs to render anyone unconscious at the touch of a button. The chip can also paralyze the subjects.
There are camera’s every where, both in the open and hidden. The villagers are observed 24 hours a day, nothing is unrecorded.
No one to date has escaped. There have been attempts.
This is the reality of the island. Anything else the staff has told you, the reason you are here, is a lie. No one has left the island in over a year and everyone who stays within a duplex is a subject. I’m am sorry but this includes you.
Sincerely,
Richard Harrison, Resident of Duplex #70
If you have any more questions please seek me out. I will answer them to the best of my ability.

While Richard's letter summarizes the horrors of the island and the trials that most residents can expect, it certainly is no preparation from the bone-wrenching pain of the changes themselves. Hot and cold flashes plague Anatoli throughout most of the days, alternatively feeling feverish and clammy, especially his arms and legs. During one particularly severe cold flash, the skin on his forearms and legs feels like it's writhing, thickening subtly... and then visably darkens. His preexisting arm and leg hairs become coarser, bristly... and then, with an audible pop, his big toes pop out of socket and shift back on his foot, heralding changes in his fingers as well, his digits becoming slightly less human looking, sprouting thick claws. His tailbone unfuses and pushes out violently, a short naked tail slipping out over the hem of his pants. Then, as if you had just gotten a dentist's visit from hell, your teeth begin to ache as some of them lengthen, grow, and sharpen while your ears discolor and grow marginally longer.

It's very safe to say that Anatoli didn't have much of a good night's sleep. All throughout that night, he was spent tossing and turning, altnernating between huddling under blankets and sweating on top of the sheets. Sleeping was actually pretty much out of the question; one of tonight's highlights was sitting in front of the open door of the minifridge while curled into a fetal position for half an hour.
Anatoli was too young for menopause. Hell, he wasn't even the right gender. What was wrong with him? He stumbled across the room from the fridge, feeling quite frozen, and reached for the pack of smokes tucked away in his suitcase -- something saved only for the most stressful of situations. And with how badly Anatoli's arms and legs were shaking... well.
He staggered outside, squeezing a lighter in one hand and a Lucky in the other, wearing nothing but his white undershirt and the pinstripe boxers Antony gave him.
It wasn't even the asscrack of dawn yet!

Newt had snuck out early, leaping first to the cafeteria and then to head towards teh beach to watch the sun rise. It all seemed like a perfect plan! No one would be up this early... at least unless they were turning into something nocturnal, he supposed. It was only after he was well on his way did he realize that some of those who were nocturnal might also be preditors.

Nobody... except someone who couldn't sleep very well. Anatoli's clammy hands fumbled with the lighter, trying get it to go so he can light up, puff, and start to warm up... he was feeling dreadfully cold. Did it always get so cold on the island?
He leaned a shoulder against the stairs leading to the upstairs duplex, the cigarette clenched between his teeth as he continued making feeble attempts at starting the lighter. He hadn't used it in so long!

Newt heard the flickering if the lighter, pausing his leap to glance over to where the human stood in the darkness. Timidly, he took a hop towards him, "Ah... er... ex... excuse me? D-do... do you n-need a l-light?"

Green eyes flicked down briefly to the weird man crouched on the ground. Anatoli tensed up a little, turning the lighter in his hand. He was still too shaky to get any use out of it.
"Oh-- oh, no, thanks though. I-- I guess it's just been a while since I've used one a' these, so it's... well, it's bein' stubborn," he said, looking at the lighter before dropping his hand to his side. He got the chance to get a good look at Newt, or as good as he could get with the sun just barely climbing into the sky now.
A crouching green man with huge eyes and slimy skin... why, that fellow had to be a Martian! Anatoli stumbled back, his mouth hanging open in disbelief. "D-Don't tell me there's aliens heeah, too..."

Newt gave a nervious croak, hopping closer into the porchlight. Anatoli's voice sounded nice and unthreatening enough, and he couldn't help but eye the cluster of moths that had been attracted to the light. "D-do... y-you m-mind if I j-joined you?"
