If you like the lord of the rings books and some similar stuff I suggest you check out Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series there are 11 books in total with one more on it’s way. the best in the series is got to be book six lord of chaos

The series is still in progress though? I try to stay away form series with unfinished books, I have trouble waiting for the next one to come out. I have to wait three years for the last of the Sword of Truth series, and it is already killing me! sweatdrop

Holy, moly, three years!? Cripes. That makes me want to shoot myself. xp I can't wait till it comes out, though... @ Kiyome the Dragon: I love The Sword of Truth series, too. biggrin

Me too! whee But the last book says it will take about three years, it made me very sad to hear such news... Now I've ready four whole other series after it. I hope when the last one comes out I will remember the story! eek

How old is he? To be worried about an author passing means he must be quiet old...or just plain unhealthy! xp

Well, he wasn't exactly a spring chicken when he began writing in the '60s! Unless he's got a Sorcerer's Stone lying around somewhere, he's in big trouble. eek

Oh, yeah, High Tide in Tucson by Barbara Kingsolver. It's a funny, witty, and informative group of essays that have a very loose plot. My favorite three right now are "High Tide in Tucson", for it's wit and use of anecdotes and simple answers, "Paradise Lost", for it's beauty and simplicity, showing that ideals do exist. And "Confessions of a Reluctant Rock Goddess" which I just finished and is absolutely hilarious and witty (She managed to get a Mary Poppin's reference in there.)

Some other good ones are "Somebody's Baby" which shows the contrast between the North American view on babies and the Mediterranean, and its effect on society. Kingsolver manages to pull it off with wit and charm as she recounts tales from her own daughter's infancy, split between America and Spain. "Semper Fi" recounts gender differences/inequalities and mating rituals. Octupi mating is a hysterical affair.

I'll edit this post as I finish the book. This one's getting a permanent place on my bookshelf.

Vale,

EDIT: Loved it! Now there is a "kind of" sequel, Small Wonder which is, frankly, amazing.

Well...I would reccomend the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. Though, if you don't like series with talking animals, don't bother. As far as children's/teen series out right now, this one has to be my favorite by far. I read the first one from the library a couple years ago, liked it so much that I ordered all the other books from the library right away, and then read them out of order because they came in out of order and I just couldn't wait. I bought them all (and/or had them given to me as gifts) since then and have read the first series at least three different times...and the last book I've read about five times. I also own the whole sequel series Warriors: The new Prophecy...but that one isn't quite as good as the first. I'm hoping the next six book set will be though.

Well if no one has mentioned it yet, anything by Anne McCaffrey is awsome! expecially if your into dragons. And if you want a good mix of si-fi and fantasy without dragons, look for the Acorna series heart

and even though I really dought that I'm the first to mention it, anything by Gale Carson Levine!

And if your looking for adventure and thrill in the good old fasioned England, you want the Bloody Jack series (I know, it sounds grusome but it really isn't) This is the story of a young girl who has been orphaned and taken up by a cheap side gang, eventually, when she runs away, she manages to be taken on as a ship's boy into the Queen's Own navy. And that is the best I can do to give you an idea of the story. Books following in this order: Bloody Jack, Curse of the Blue Tatoo, Under the Jolly Roger, In the Belly of the Bloodhound, and most likely there will be many more.

The Naming and The Riddle, they may not be written very well, but the story line is facinating
Leven Thumps and the gateway to Foo, again not written very well but very original and a wonderful story
Ohh! I almost forgot about my favorite series by Christopher Pike! Alosha!
the books come in this order: Alosha, The Shaktra, The Yanti, and hopefully many more to come wink

Happy Reading! biggrin

Again, Happy Reading! ninja

Merlin Series By, T.A. Barron

It might not match the literate requirements for most of the people in here and I read it years back but if your just looking for a past time it's good. The plot isn't too bad and everything.
