I learned two things today.

1. kekonshtaindesu.
imi wa 'Because I want to get married.'

2. ikitakunakattandesu.
[really hard to say for me]
imi wa 'Because I don't want to go."

Both are made in the 'explanatory tense' ndesu.
So it's kinda like saying, 'this is the reason why.'

I feel aweful for correcting you, but it would be 'kekkonshitaindesu'...you just forgot a k.

My word of the day is 考える、 kangaeru, to think. I actually learned this quite a while back, but I forgot it from lack of use. This time I will remember!

-And just a side note, you might want to be cautious with the 'ndesu', it can be seen as rude if used in the wrong situations. Or so according to my Japanese teacher.

Um Im not taking any Japanese courses but here is my word for the day

Kanashige na - I believe this means Sad. If im wrong then well... sweatdrop
PostPosted: Thu Nov 10, 2005 10:56 pm

About the previous post, and don't think the word is exactly right. Kanashii means sad, and it's an i adjective. *Kanashigeni* means sadly or "with a sad look." Apparently kanashii has two different kanji. Anyway, the japanese text: かなしい。 悲しい。 哀しい。

How about six words... because they are all related. For some reason my japanese textbook introduces them in the vocabulary spread out over several chapters; Which is dumb and makes it harder to notice the pattern(and thus harder to remember).

konshuu - this week
kongetsu - this month
raishuu - next week
raigetsu - next month
senshuu - last week
sengetsu - last month

hiragana!

こんしゅう
こんげつ
らいしゅう
らいげつ
せんしゅう
せんげつ

kanji!

今週
今月
来週
来月
先週
先月

A word of the day huh? Hmm....

Does it have to be poetic or significant to.. something poetic? confused

食欲 shokuyoku. Craving.

It's what I'm feeling right now. I am going back home on Dec. 12. And all I can think about is good old-fashioned meaty American food. Specifically a home-made BBQ cheesburger...

Ah yes.. 食欲。 学校で食欲の話ばっか、最近。

Yes, my random word of the day, though it comes in handy at some points.

I learned this watching a Naruto episode, and the word used is pretty rude...

'Usero.' -- Go away.

Yep... Just 'Go away'...

Another two that I learned in my real life Japanse class.

'- motte imasu' -- Have possession over.
ex. Watashi wa hon to chizu o motte imasu. I have a book and a map.

'- shitte imasu' -- To know.
ex. Watashi wa Nihongo o shitte imasu. I know Japansese.

Ah, motte is a good one to know. My japanese textbook presented it as mottekuru(bring) and motteiku(take with you)
