Chel had to wonder why the ******** they were being called to rescue a bunch of humans when their island was still totaled. If they couldn't defend against vines and creation in their own home turf, how were they supposed to do it elsewhere?

Well whatever. It was raining, they were freezing their asses off and they were expected to go save some people.

What else was new?

She didn't bother reading the mission text; being dyslexic meant that would take her forever and like hell she wanted to start a mission off with a headache.

Instead she went to her division leader, expected orders. None were given by pompous mcimportantpants, so instead she turned to Mark who blathered on about being important. She had a minor moment of panic as the bracelet went on (bomb? Bomb??) but it passed as she was given instruction.

Through the portal was another series of dreary, foggy images. Nothing too par for course, but damn if the hints of insanity didn't make her feel unguarded. She summoned Tenebrae just in case. She had the sinking feeling it'd be better to go in with protection than without.

Vines. ********>

Amy had been wandering around the campus, looking for a nice place to sun bathe. She had her swimsuit and everything, along with her favorite plant. She hummed a little tune as she went, smiling and waving to anyone she passed by. She stopped and frowned at the little elf shouting about a world catastrophe and THE END OF THE WORLD?! Oh no! Humans will become exstinct? Wel...Not if she can help it! Amy nearly jumped when the Reaper handed her a guide on [ HOW TO SAVE YOUR HUMAN ] instruction booklet. The plant blinked and shuffled her bag and the plant with in it to her other shoulder so she could read it, frowning at the simplistic way the instructions were written in the book:

Instructions

(Page 1):
Find a Human!

(Page 2):
Hug it!

(Page 3):
Carry the human in your embrace towards the exit

(Page 4)
You did it!

(Page 5)
Yay!

Despite feeling like her intelliegnce was being insulted, Amy smiled politely at the Reaper, thanking him for the instructions. She gave her bag to Mindy, who looked rather sad that their day in the sun was being cancelled for some dumb crisis. "Min...I want you to take care of my babies while Im gone okay? I'll be back soon!" She stood in line and grabbed a pass, waving to her pet as she moved ever so slowly since many halloweeners probably weren't doing this of their own free will. She looked to each of the MRTHATSFH volunteers to see if they had any info, making her way to the Werewolf in red.

Werewolf says
She crosses her arms, scowling at the fog. "We do not t͏r̕us̵ţ this," she growled. Her growl reverberated with the sound of more than one being. "There is something about the fog that sets my teeth on edge. Keep your Fear close and strike swiftly."

Amy frowned and nodded, taking one last look at her surroundings before stepping into the portal. She had a feeling she wasnt going to be back for awhile, this will be her first trip into the human world afterall.

When Amy arrived at the other side, she was a bit shocked and disturbed, looking around at the dead landscape, fearing the worst has already happened and the world was already over. She smiled at the many shadowlings, marveling at just how cute they were, all tiny and huggable! She was about to try and pet one when she heard a strange sound that sounded like the moan of a rotten undead in their oldest stage of life. She turned around only to hiss and squint at the sight that met her. That grotesque thing couldnt be what she was needing to save was it?

It didnt matter, just looking at the creature made her tentacles whip around herself while she started nursing a headache. She begun to move on then, trying her hardest to navigate through the dense fog so she could rescue a human! Their species must survive so they can continue to exist as well! So onward she trecked, nearly tripping over something solid and squishy. The poor rose looked around, confused before looking down. OH! This must be a human right? She bent down to carry the human, only to wince. "Im so sorry human, but you've clearly consumed too much of your species substance! You weigh so much!" Instead, she turned around and used the vines that came from behind her to wrap under its arms, lifting the human as much as she could before she started walking again.

Were all humans this heavy?

When the emergency sirens began to blare, Sin was in the middle of tipping his chair back in boredom after writing those reports, suspended in precarious balance, before abruptly falling over. Yet the fall didn't dampen his spirits at all. A rank S class mission was nothing to laugh at either. But most of all, he could finally go outside!

He had already read the debriefing, and wearing a slightly changed version of his uniform – one with a hood, although he didn't mind the rain and weather. It might be a hindrance in battle though. Dying and the infected, it didn't really matter what they were fighting against. Undying, the infected, they were all the supernatural, weren't they? Sin was far more concerned about the civilians, imagining the poor souls that had gotten caught up in this mess. Any questions dealt towards his faction, the sun division leader proved as .. vague as ever! And that was putting it nicely. Not that Sin could find fault with him though, since he was right up Sin's alley~ He certainly preferred him to some of the other leaders.

Stepping through a portal, he wasn't sure what he should have been expecting. The dismal sight met his singular eye. Broken buildings, an abandoned fog, lingering ghosts, a strange fog.. and what seemed out of place was the startling presence of green vines which were alive and out of place. It was apocalyptic, like a bad horror movie. But the reality was very much tangible before them, bringing dread and tension to the pirate hunter's body.

He walked, and walked.. wary of their surroundings. When he finally found somebody, he quickly turned them over to reveal a white-hair doctor.

Torsten hummed as he walked around the fountain. Spotting the small elf he crossed his arms as his tailed lazily swished behind him. Oh...the human world? His Father talked about that with strain, his Mother seemed to have adored it...seemed her clan was widely adored by a breed of Humans there. He smiled as he clacked his way over. Hmmm....C'thulian huh? Torsten wasn't accustomed to that. First time for everything he supposed. "Excuse me...I'm up for this."

He tilted his head as the pamphlet was handed over...choosing to read it, he blinked. Surely there had to be more than this...right? Well. At least it was easy to remember. He put it away in his kimono top before looking around. Oh...so now they get to go through a portal. He was excited...his first trip into the Human world...what would he see? Was it like his Home Island...? Was his Mother's bedtime stories all true? He trilled at the ideas of it all...

Looking over the representatives he smiled at the Minipet. He liked those, then walked up it. "Hello there." he gave it a semi-bow. After all it looked more rational than most Minipets he knew of. From his experience the beings were rather intelligent. "All I have to do is go through the portal then?" He blinked as the small creature spoke to him...oh...

He had a small window then to act. He had to be fast...crossing his small arms to hide them in his kimono sleeves he bowed to the Minipet. "Understood. Lets get this done shall we..."

He walked through the portal and saw...wait...this can't be right? He looked around. Why did this look like the Island of Fog his Uncle created using his Mist abilities...What the heck were the metal things? WHY DID THIS ALL LOOK HORRIBLY WRONG?!? Oh...yeah...he blinked. The elf did say that everything was ending...

He walked around, skirting around the shadowlings...glaring at the other things...ow..his eyes hurt. His tail thumped lightly against things. Wow, this was a hassle...he sighed. Then spotted something...long hair. Oh that was pretty hair...he walked over to the Human. OH HIS FIRST HUMAN!!! He knelled down, reaching out to brush the hair away from their face. Looked male...he looked down...and kept looking. Then blinked...

Were all Humans bigger than him?

Harrison got his gear together, with all the usual s**t. Bandages, B0nez, clothes he didn't mind getting ruined.

He didn't talk with any of the leads. He thought it was weird that not even the Moon assistant was around, although if they were mounting a rescue mission maybe they were already busy.

He was in a cheerful mood in spite of everything, and joked with Rep as they puttered around in the silent and broody fog. B0nez and Tracey bathed everything in a reddish glow.

When they found the pair of bodies, Harrison nudged one over with his foot and was surprised to find it was breathing.

"Hey, this guy made it!" He bent to check both of them over. Breathing, check, pulse, check, injuries...recent, but patched. Nothing immediate. Harrison rifled through his pockets while he was at it, but didn't find much worthwhile.

"I think mine's homeless," Harrison said, wrinkling his nose as he arranged the limp man over one shoulder. There was still blood and vomit on Ras's jacket.

"Or a roll-gamer," Harrison accused, detecting a little bit of eau de Mark. "Is it worth it? I mean, how old are these guys, 60?" He looked over at the old lady Rep had hefted over his shoulder skeptically. "Are you sure the higher ups said to put them in an uninfected city? Was there a uh, policy change? Because I thought..."

Well, anyhow, it wasn't how they'd handled it in the past.

It was her first Mission, and Kimberly was actually a bit surprised to have gotten it at all. She was a newcomer but it seemed that there was so much going on that even they were being called in to help. Something weird was going on, not that it was anything new or surprising, when wasn't there something weird? This time the weird had hit a whole new level, and it couldn't be put off.

Glancing down at her screen she frowned again. This time it wasn't Allan messaging, so there were no weird emoji or anything, it was all news and business. She packed her items and started rushing.. to Canada. The thought of it made her laugh softly. She was going to Canada to save some people. What kind of music did that call for? She just hit the random button and took off running

It was a short time later when she got to where she was needed, transport was working good, and it seemed there were many there ahead of her, so she joined the large group, rather shocked at just how many of them were in this weird camp site. So many people.. so wet, so cold... so dreary. She wrinkled her nose a bit and shifted from foot to foot.

She could hardly hear what was being said, and she looked down once more at the cell she was somehow still holding. The message seemed confusing to her and she really wanted to find a way to get close to ask Allan what was happening. Even when he was weird he made a bit more sense... sort of.

Class S mission (Classified)
Objectives: Neutralize all hostiles, including Undying (I-23 cool and Infected (I-129). Find and rescue any surviving civilians while obtaining minimal risks. All Hunters need to regroup back at the portal 4 hours from dispatch. All Hunters should be equipped with appropriate Runic gear and headsets. Report any further suspicious activity and incident post mission ASAP through a properly conducted mission report.

She had four hours to kill a lot of things and get her a** back here to get home.. at least that is what it seemed to be telling her. She felt like she was under geared though, she only had Chinthliss, the map and flashlight they gave her... some weird smelling meat and the headset that was to be her lifeline back to the site.

Wriggling through the crowd she finally made it to Allan, and opened her mouth to ask him what she was going to be doing out there, and if he knew what the things she was hunting looked like... sadly she got no real info from him.

He beams and then poses. "To every question there is an answer and that is the question." Really, why did you ask him again?

He does however, send you off with an extra bottle of Ramune and about five boxes of Strawberry Pocky, and if you are carrying a Runic weapon, he checks it once over again for you to make sure it is working.

Well... Allan was Allan, she should have known better....

Now was her time to head through the gate, and what assaulted her sense was chaos. This place looked like death warmed over... on a bad day after an earthquake. Vines were everywhere, covered in malicious looking thorns, there were shadowlings creeping around, and infected people that seemed like they were walking in molasses, or maybe that was her training speaking. She was supposed to find something alive in all of this?

She looked around as the other people headed off to check other areas, and nodding silently to herself headed down a side street. That was where she saw the strange blond mad, out cold on the ground. "Whoa.. I think he is alive.."

While it wasn't a full scale operation in Deus HQ, the second Quinn learned where the emergency level mission was based he HAD to go. There was no choice in his mind, this mission was far too close to home to be ignored, so when the order came he quickly grabbed his gear and went.

Once they arrived in victoria though, it was less than pleasent. Mists combined with a light drizzling rain was steady enough to soak him through eventually, the surrounding area being populated with no one but nature and the collective group. He loved it, home sweet home.

[read entire message]

He saw others here and there not bothering to read the message, shaking his head as he saw so. Morons, while the fine print wasn't exactly the most fun to read usually it turned out to be essential. Listening to the briefing was easy, Save people, Take out Enemies, and learn what they could.

He was just a tad bit scared....maybe...

[ Ask the Death lead a question ]:

He stepped forward, opened his mouth..... and then closed it and stepped back. Yup, not happening.

[ Ask the Death assistant a question instead ]:

He went to his next best choice, and once again was shrugged off. He was given something to hold though, an odd watch?

This mission was starting out far too easy, but as he was ushered to the door Quinn realized that oh no, it wasn't. A dreariness creeped its way into him the more he approached, seeping into his system slowly. The further he walked, the more he felt it. All around him was the remains of a once grand city, now in ruins. There were shapes in the mist, shapes easily avoided. Though he couldn't stop the rather girlish squeal as he stepped out of the way of an infected. Slowly he would realize there was vines everywhere, eerily familiar vines. They reminded him of his time on Deus, still unsure of how exactly those went away as well.

It felt like hours, long loosing sight of any of his comrades. It wasn't until he tripped over a body that things came crashing down- WAIT, a body????

The Dormouse ghoul was in town to do her monthly shopping, when she heard a loud voice coming from near the fountain! "Hm?" she hums curiously before petting the head of the giant spider she was riding. "Let's go check out what's going on!" she exclaims excitedly! Her tail begins to wag as the potental for adventure fills the air! Crittering in equal excitement, the skull spiderling skitters it's way over before stopping just short of the crowd.

Sitting forwards in the saddle, Camilla perks her ears forwards to listen. "Help save humanity! The humans are in danger, that means we're in danger! Help today!" the voice exclaims which causes the Dormouse ghoul's eyes to go wide! Humanity was in trouble!? Oh dear! She remembered how frail humans were from the Knight Dream; remember how it felt to be human... The moment those first words had been spoken, Camilla had made up her mind!

Her spiderling seemed distressed by this revealation as well... It chitters worriedly which causes Camilla to reach over and pet it's head gently. "Don't worry, I'm going to go help the humans!" she exclaims before sliding off the spider's back. "We'll have to wait on our shopping trip this month. We'll do it when I get back, ok?" she explains softly. Nodding, the spider makes a sort of, "Be safe" sort of chitter before waving with a spindly leg and taking off to go find a portal.

Waving after it, Camilla finally nods to herself before turning and walking up to the Elf. "Excuse me! I'd like to go help rescue humans!" she chirps excitedly! Turning towards her, the Elf eyes her excitedly wagging tail and equally excited expression before nodding in approval. "Your an excitable sort! Good, good! We could use more like you!" he says while still nodding. Smiling, Camilla's eyes light up with curiosity as she's handed a manual. "Make sure to read all of that! It'll tell you how to rescue your human!" he explains before directing her towards the portals.

Nodding, she opens the booklet and begins reading as she walks towards the portal. The process seemed simple enough, and she honestly wasn't sure why they actually needed a book... The happy little "Yay" at the end did earn a merry tailwag from her though! Once her turn to go through was up, she makes to step into the portal; however, just as she was about to step through she notices a familiar Gym Teacher! Oh and it wasn't just Red, there seemed to be other professors here too! The growled out declaration of unease towards the fog caused Camilla to pause a little longer. Fog Red didn't like? That couldn't be good... She'd seemed positively at home in Miasma Village's fog... And that fog had, had strange effects on Camilla...

Red's warning was noted and she nods to confirm before grabbing her pass and turning back to the portal. Well, it was time to go! With a excited tailwag she steps into the portal!

----

The trip through was smooth and instantaneous. She'd gotten quite used to portal travel by now, what with all her portal travel too and from Miasma Village to visit her Apex pets, it wasn't a surprise.

The moment the Dormouse ghoul stepped out of the portal, she was greeted by a cold, clammy, and all around dreary fog... This certainly wasn't like her fog back in Mouseshire... It wasn't even like the fog Misama Village had, had... Shivering slightly at the chill, Camilla rubs her arms a bit before shivering the cold away. Once she'd warmed up a bit and her head, which had been fogging up with sleep slightly, cleared, Camilla began searching the fog for a human!

Which... turned out to be harder then the Dormouse ghoul had thought it'd be... The humans really did seem to be in dire straights... Their buildings were in deplorable condition, half formed shadowlings littered the area, while undead like humaniod creatures lingered around... It was strange... Camilla usual got along very well with Undead, rot or not. But these things... They gave her the willies... Another troublesome thing was, she was weaker then normal... And her Fear was out of her reach... It actually felt almost like she was a human... Her ears and tail said otherwise however, and she did have access to her natural ability.

The fog... She could see now why Red didn't like it... It was so thick and clammy... Something just felt... Wrong about it...

As the Dormouse ghoul wandered around searching for a human to save, she started to wonder if there were any left... Finally however, she comes to a ruined hospital. It was in a sad state both inside and out... But, what was good about it was, "Humans!" she exclaims as she walks into the Hospital's foyer and sees three unconscious forms on the ground! Least she hoped they were unconscious... With a worried tailwag, she goes over and checks a brown haired ghoul's pulse. Fortunately, she was still alive! She and the other two were just sleeping it seemed...

Arrakis was one of those creeple that liked having a cause, and this was as good of a cause as any. He followed the activity from the academy over to where people were soliciting volunteers. Or, in the case of some, it seemed, "volunteers". Not much cajoling was needed to get Arrakis to take the pamphlet from the other Reaper. Of course he read it, immediately opening it and flipping through the pages.

He couldn't help the quiet snort of laughter at the contents, even in the face of the apparently dire circumstances they were dealing with.

One passport and short conversation with a werewolf later, Arrakis was through the portal and hoping to get down to business. He wasn't laughing anymore, especially as he encountered the dreary grey on the other side of the portal and remembered what the werewolf had said to him. He glanced around to see who else he could see from their side of things, but gave up when he realised exactly how difficult it was to discern much of anything. He hadn't been able to walk very far before the fog had thickened again.

Where were the humans? He tried to find one while also avoiding the decidedly not-human shapes lurking about.

Wait! There was one! Asleep, but hey, better than dead. Arrakis grabbed onto her and glanced over his shoulder. Time to try and get her out of here.

Koray was kicking it around the campus. Chuckling as he looked at the fountain...huh. Something fun? He walked over to it and clapped in glee. Oh man...Humans need help. This was going to be fun!!! He tilted his head at the elf. "Cool..."

Looking at the pamphlet he was about to just put it in his bag and not read it before someone smacked the back of his head. Hearing the threat he groaned then opened it...blinking at the content. Dude...he wasn't a scareling. Okay...fine. He could follow this...he glanced up and around. Whelp, no time like the present~

He whistled as he walked up to the little ice demon. Chuckling. "No problem~"

He walked through the portal and whistled. Nice place. He hopped from car to rubble. Titling his head at the sight of a pale hand. Jumping down to walk over he chuckled. Oh...A human...male...he leaned in and blinked. A snake slithered over the rubble and hissed at him. Knelling he smirked as the serpent slithered into the human's shirt. Oh..cool...he reached out then snapped his hand back as the snake shot out to protect their human.

Oh...he enjoyed this...standing he nodded. Yup. He found the human he was going to rescue.

Sucre teetered back and forth from her toes to her heels. She had been shopping, just for fun really, when the crowd caught her attention. As soon as she approached an instructional booklet of some kind was shoved into her gooey hands. She let out a little 'oh' and flipped it open, giggling at the instructions and childish drawings. It was cute!

Honestly she didn't mind helping 'her' human, that had to look good on her resume right. Saving a species from extinction. It could also be fun to go through a portal. She was totally up for this. Sucre waited impatiently in line, still fidgeting. As she drew closer she noticed several volunteers, of which was a small minipet.

"Oh? Are you helping too?" Even minipets helped the humans?

It tilted it's head. As it did, her mind was filled with words. .

Sucre squinted her eyes at it. That was foreboding. This was going to be fun right? She supposed a little danger wasn't a bad thing, but she wasn't prepared for this really. Whatever it was...

Sooner than she thought, Sucre was walking through the portal. It was pretty cool. As soon as she made it through she scoffed at the scene. It was depressing and completely boring. No color, everything was a mess. They had these tame looking cars, if you could call them that, strewn around.

As she walked, Sucre saw shadowlings, things not quite real yet and perhaps human-like shapes. Everything seemed slightly blurred, slightly off. A lingering wispy almost not even there sort of fog might have been the reason. Suddenly it thickened and Sucre got lost in it.

Really not fun! She could easily find fog back home. She was also getting horribly bored wandering in it. Her yells were fruitless and never answered. Finally a shape rested between the fog. As she approached it was a human?

Canon had been out and about Town, doing a little shopping when she was offered the exciting chance to go rescue a human. While she had been shopping before, she had never rescued a human ever, so, naturally, she readily agreed. The recruiter seemed somewhat taken aback by her willingness, but directed her over to the fountain, where she got to hear a bit more about the cause, and even received an instructional booklet!

She read through it thoroughly, taking careful note that she was to hug the human, something else she'd never had a chance to do! She was going to get so much research done today!

The one-eyed ghoul obediently joined the line, but couldn't resist saying hello to the Werewolf in Red.

"Absolutely!" Canon responded, even throwing in a salute, and scampered through the portal.

The human world, broken though it was, was fascinating to the little Monster, and she nearly forgot her purpose as she explored the landscape. Would they let her keep a specimen? A chunk of concrete would add a lot of scientific weight to her desk! What were these metal things? She couldn't seem to find any humans in them, just food wrappers and spare change. Why did it hurt to look at that human-shaped thing? She was fairly certain it wasn't an actual human, and despite it hurting, Canon attempted to get a better look at one. It seemed... spiky, she finally decided, and put off further research in favor of continuing her mission. There was a human that needed hugging out there!

And she finally found one! It was asleep, and quite large compared to her, but how much could a human weigh, really? As she went in for the hug, Canon felt certain that she'd manage somehow.

Robert would have been excited about a trip to Canada if he wasn't fully aware of the kind of devastation that likely awaited them, after having read the message. All he could do was keep a close eye on Mimsy until they were separated to search, and try not to think about how good that jerky he'd eaten when it was handed to him was. It had a sweetness to it and he wanted more and where was Mimsy maybe she had more jerky.

Instead, he found Mark who attached a wristwatch to him, and gave him no jerky. The death assistant was, once more, useless.

So he searched in the fog that felt too familiar to be comfortable, and quickly found himself a survivor. She was barely breathing, but covered in way too many sweaters, and voices were coming from her pants. Robert winced as he very hesitantly reached in with two fingers to take the radio out, and then lost track of his life for a little while as he listened to both humans, and monsters, chatter and bicker.

Much like twitter, this was a time waster worth wasting away for.

Eventually, he picked up the girl and slung her over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes, heading straight for what he thought was the way out.

Emergency meetings were all things that generated great interest from the occupants of Deus. Curious, or dutiful, they responded like fishermen to a siren's song. Peyton was no exception. Regardless of anything else that might have been going on in her life, she was always prompt to respond to a summons. She was a hunter, first and for most, and protective civilians from all that would hurt them in the world was her Job. She was good at her job. So she responded as so many other's had.

It was raining at the base. A light drizzle that was just wet enough, just cool enough, to be unpleasant rather than enjoyable, and Pey had her hood drawn up and her scarf draped across her shoulders to proved some small manner of cover. If she'd known what the weather would have been like before leaving, she'd have gone with long sleeves. Ah well. Hindsight. It wouldn't really matter once they were on the move anyways.

[Read entire message]

As equipment and supplies were passed around, the dainty hunter climbed back to her feet, backing things away as they were handed to her. Light and jerky in her back with the rest of her runics, headset set up accordingly. She fiddled with controls a moment until she seemed satisfied, then turned a curious glance towards the leads that were standing about.

[Ask the Death lead a question]

Caelius, as the closest, was who Peyton headed over to first, but she hadn't so much as parted lips to speak before he shot her a rather unfriendly look that had her reconsidering. So instead she turned to Mark, watching a a moment as he fiddled with his computers.

[Ask the Death assistant a question instead]

His reception wasn't exactly friendlier, but Mark wasn't exactly intimidating, either. She waited for him to notice her, waited a little longer for him to stop what he was doing to acknowledge her. Instead, he thrust something at her, a watch, to hold onto. She looked down at it, then up at him as she lofted a questioning brow. "Well alright, then." Who knew, maybe it'd come in hand. Pey strapped it it on and headed for the portal.

It was like stepping into a cloud. One moment the dreary weather of the Victoria base, the next fading fog. It was still thick enough to make it hard to see. "Well this is going to make everything so much easier," she sighed, voice thick with sarcasm as she headed forward.

What felt like hours of wandering, and the fog was growing denser. Peyton cursed under her breath, fingers spinning the rings on her thumbs in irritation. The place was deserted. Nothing but half formed shadowlings and shambling infected. She was starting to think their intelligence had been wrong, that there weren't any survivors, when she found one.

"Oh." A young man; on the tall side of average, medium build, chestnut hair. There were blood stains on his back, but what she could see of his skin around the areas was already bandaged. "Now I wonder what happened to you."

[ Mimsy ]

When the call came for the emergency mission, informing them of another situation that involved endangered civilians, Mimsy didn't hesitate to respond. They had been the only lifeline for those who managed to escape that shopping mall - namely the little girl that she and Robert protected as though she were their own, sacrificing the single antidote she carried, all for the sake of ensuring her safety. And Peter, had he not narrowly escaped the same outbreak, would not have come into their lives. She would not be a mother, and Robert would not be a father. They would not have this perfect family that she could no longer imagine living without, and it instilled her with a tremendous sense of duty for the safety of civilians.

But even if none of that had been the case - if they had never gone on that mission, and had never been given to opportunity to adopt Peter into their lives - Alice had given her a reason. It was a reason beyond what she could truly fathom, the importance of a necessary variable in an equation that needed, positively required her if it would work. Without their help, she would lose everything. Everyone would. And Alice entrusted her with preventing that.

It was always a bit unnerving to accept official orders from anyone but Dr. H, but she tried to put that aside for the sake of the situation. Of the familiar leads, she only felt comfortable speaking to Allan, who seemed pleased to speak with her as well.

He then handed her a strange drink and five boxes of Pocky, which was a bit puzzling; but Robert had immediately begun to consume his rations of jerky, so she thanked the Sun Lead and quietly tucked them in her pack alongside her own. He would probably need them long before they ever got back.

After stealing a quick kiss, just in case the situation on the other side of the portal did not allow them to focus on each other for a while, Mimsy stepped through. She was met with an overwhelming blanket of fog, and coughed several times before managing to breathe in it. Robert was already impossible to find, alarmingly, and the more she moved in search of him the more aware she was that finding him was not going to be easy. Not even their voices seemed to travel very far here. Her only comfort came in the feedback from the bracelet on her wrist, a gentle nudge in response to any she gave, and one for each of his in return.

Eventually, an abandoned radio marked with a '9' gave her some comfort by allowing her to hear his voice. If she had happened upon any civilians before then, she was ashamed to admit that she may not have noticed, her thoughts too distracted to properly focus on their task. Believing that Alice would want more from her, she took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and tried to concentrate.

It worked for as long as it had to. It was the shadowling she saw first, sitting patiently atop the unconscious civilian's body. It looked up at her with a solemn curiosity, and she smiled at it in return.

"Come along," she called to it, bending down in an attempt to coax it towards her. "I will not hurt you."

For whatever reason, even if that reason was an inability to have sophisticated thoughts, it took the gamble. She cleared a pocket of her coat by transferring her scissors and notebook into the other, and nestled it safely inside.

With the tiny shadowling out of the way, all was clear for her to tend to the civilian without causing much trouble. She took note of the vines, ensuring that they were at a safe distance, and moved to make a better assessment of the civilian's injuries and vitals. It surprised her when turning the woman over was so difficult, considering their typical advantages over more normal members of humanity. Svensyl was so faint that she couldn't tell if he was actually there or if she was imagining him in his absence, which made sense: if the fog or vines had somehow weakened him, it weakened her as well.

Nothing to be concerned about, she assured herself. This was manageable on her own, or Alice (and Deus) would not have trusted her with it. The woman was an absolute mess. Sticky from the fog, smudged with dust from the rubble, bright red hair clinging to her everywhere, with a pen inexplicably stuck in part of it. She began to carefully move her hair aside, intending to check for any wounds that might be obscured beneath it--

And with a strangled shout she pushed herself up, scrambled backwards in a panic, and stumbled into a fallen chunk of concrete. With unprecedented urgency, she clamored over it and hid, trembling hands fumbling with the radio.
