Preparation for the Future

Of the three of them in the group only one of them could actually fly at the moment, that being Abellio. His ability to do so gave him a bit of an advantage when it came to scouting for Junjie, finding dragons, and it was something that seemed to drive Arjan nuts. How he wanted to learn to fly! At the moment he was rushing along, diving off of some of the dunes, wings flapping, and doing his best to figure out how to do as Abellio could do. It was something that he was determined to figure out, wanting to be able to scout for dragons as well, to prove to himself and the rest of their little family that he was useful!

Well, useful for something more then giving Junjie awful ideas. It had been a couple days and he still couldn't believe that he'd gone off and given him such a suggestion. He was supposed to be the level headed one! The one that kept after Junjie to keep to his training, he wasn't supposed to tell him to go out looking for an orphaned child to adopt since he didn't have a mate! Stupid ideas like that were the sorts of ideas that Abellio should be shelling out, damn it! Giving a grumble he glided down, landing on the sands, then as he sat there he gave a huffing sound, tail lashing behind him. What a huge bother he thought to himself, teeth gritted. He was feeling so out of sorts and this was so frustrating! What was it that he was supposed to do? How could he talk Junjie out of this? Was it really a good idea what he was thinking?

"It's something that he is interested in. He won't go into it half cocked, Arjan, I am sure he will think it all through carefully before making any sort of decision. He wants to do what is best for everyone after all, he always does. He wouldn't put any child into a situation that might put them in danger, I mean look at us, how well he's always protected us. I mean he even bought me a cloak to hide under when I was little and afraid of dragons." Abellio said, coming up behind Arjan, looking him over, then gave the best smile a Khehora could muster. His tail swished a bit before he added, "We can't push him one way or the other, we should just be here for him."

"Bah! I am here for him!" Arjan snarled, "I am always trying to help, to push him to be his best, he should know that! I just... he can't! I mean... look at how mean they are too him! Just because he has those fluffy wings. What if they... what if they are mean to his whelp just because of what he is? Junjie would feel awful." He muttered, glaring down at the ground at his feet. How he hated this, feeling this way, he had to get stronger, so that he could better protect Junjie from all those bastards out there who would hurt him for no reason. Arjan's claws dug into the sand before he said, "I won't have him hurting all the time... it annoys me... makes me want to just bite them all!"

Turning his head to look over at Abellio he suddenly demanded, "You! You will teach me to fly, so we can protect him together. If he decides to make such a foolish choice I would have myself able to defend him." He told the Ysali.

There was a moment of silence from Abellio before he gave a chuckle and a nod, "Of course. Come on, let's get going then, shall we? Best that we start your flying lessons now, while Junjie sleeps. I am sure it would be a nice thing for him to wake up to." He told Arjan before he pushed to his feet, "Come on then, let's get you off the ground, shall we?"

A Chat with Lena

Junjie and is pair of Khehora had been back in Serenia for a couple of days, just resting up, while the hybrid seemed to beat around the bush where it came to talking to his mother about his adoption aspirations. He was old enough that he shouldn't be nervous about such things and if he was going to talk with anyone about it then it should be her. After all she'd raised him, kept him safe from those who might be cruel to him, she would know how he should proceed as far as child care went. The more he fretted over it though the more huffy Arjan became. It was obvious that he questioned the entire idea and yet at the same time he seemed to be training hard 'just in case' as he put it. He disapproved but at the same time desired to be prepared if Junjie went through with everything. It really was kind of him and kind of Abellio to help him, the two of them had been working on flying for a while now, and Arjan was starting to get the hang of it even if his heavy handed approach made it a bit difficult on his teacher.

Giving another sigh, whilst poking at his food, Junjie found himself trying to gather the same sort of resolve himself as far as dealing with his mother was concerned. What would think? Would she think him foolish as well? Most likely, it wasn't as though he had a partner after all and that would probably make any and all things baby related a whole lot more complicated. It would be just him.

"I'm here too." Abellio informed him through their bond, glancing over at him for a moment before he turned to where his Alihora was sitting, munching on a few cookies that Lena had given him. There was also a little bit of reassurance from Arjan but nothing in words, he was showing himself that he was there for Junjie but not about to help anymore then he already had. It was enough to make Junjie smile though before he turned back to look at his mother, seeming to be thinking about it before nodding at the pair.

"I... am thinking, mother, of... adopting. A baby, I mean." He said in a slow manner, struggling with how best to word the announcement. He didn't want to be a bother to her or a shock but if anyone was going to be able to help him out with this it would be his mother. She was smart, she knew about people, about kids, not only because she was a mother but because she was a doctor as well. Resting his fork on his plate he allowed his hands to rest in his lap, clasping them together, "I was thinking about it, and I know that I don't have a partner but... I just..." He trailed off, cheeks flushing a bit as he thought about what it was that he was admitting out loud to his mother of all people.

Lena was starring at her son for a long moment, her blue eyes rather wide from surprise, before she gave a little whistling sound, "A child, hm? So you want to make me a grandmother at my young age?" She asked of him, giving him a once over before sighing softly, "I think that if anyone could take on such a responsibility it would be you, Junjie, you were always such a strong boy after all. I just want you to keep in mind though that it's not like raising Abellio and Arjan, it will take a whole long longer then that. Not to mention that a baby like us will be a lot more delicate then a baby Khehora. The moment you become a father you will have to look after him or her twenty four seven."

She seemed to be thinking deeply on something before she continued on, "Before you go through with the adoption I think that perhaps you should work with some little ones? Perhaps do as I did, act as a traveling doctor, use your skills to aid those in need. There is no need to rush into this after all, you are young yet." Giving him a smile she added, "I just want you to get a feel for little ones before you think to take one of them home with you, Jun. Once you meet with them you will understand how hard it can be to take care of a baby." She said, rising to her feet, moving to get the two of them another helping of the stew that she'd made for them for dinner.

As she sat back down across from Junjie she added, "If you do end up adopting though, in the future of course, I would love to meet with the little one." She gave him a gentle smile, "Being a grandmother does have a rather nice ring to it." She gave a soft sigh as she stirred her bowl of stew thoughtfully, then glanced up at him again, giving him a wistful smile, "How I wish your father could have seen the man you have grown up to be. To think that you might even end up as a father yourself, such a shame that the two of you were unable to meet."

Junjie looked at her, away, then back again, "It... will be the same if I adopt as well, won't it? The little one will never get to meet their parents as well. It will be sad in a way, that they aren't able to meet with his or her parents, but then they will have me just as I always have you."

"It's a shame that I never met him, my father I mean, but I had you and that was enough for me." He told her before he reached out to get his napkin, wiping his hands off on it, then pushed to his feet, "If it's alright I'd like to stick around a little while longer before I set out to do as you suggested. I am sure some that there is much you could give me in the way of advice." He was ready to learn from his mother since being a traveling doctor was something she'd done in the past before settling down here on Serenia in the little town that needed someone with her skills. He found himself wondering for a moment if he might be the same in the future but given his mixed blood he wasn't quite sure. He'd probably have to find a place that was accepting of one like him. A nice dream for the future he thought to himself as he moved to clean his dishes.

Lena gave a smile as she finished off her meal and said, "I don't mind, you know you are welcome back anytime. Now, how about after we are done with the dishes I bring you to the clinic and help you to pack some supplies for your up coming trip." She offered him, wanting to make sure he was well prepared for the journey ahead of him. Being a doctor wasn't an easy task after all, even for one with magical abilities.

Waiting on the Ship: Part 1

Junjie was only too happy to be away from the beast of a Khehora that he and his bonded had run into. The thing was far from the sort that he wanted to spend too much time with, feeling as though that one would never be anything but a danger to his little family. It wasn't something that he wanted to allow and as such he meant to just keep ahead of him. The last thing that he wanted was to have to deal with that one again... and the fact that the creature made it seem as though he might very well try to get Junjie's help again in the future was more then a little unnerving. Giving a little shiver he quickened his steps that much more, an action that caused his bonded to follow suit, hurrying to keep their flanking positions on either side of him. It was their way of protecting him, even if Junjie was stronger then both of them due to his age, training, and the fact that as bonded their own personal magic had been mostly given over to Junjie. All that meant nothing when it came to protecting Junje after all, not in their eyes at least.

"It seems that he is gone, Junjie, we can probably slow down." Abellio suggested, leaning in to nuzzle against his shoulder in a manner he hoped would be soothing for him. It seemed to help in that it at least had him slowing down a little bit which had the Alihora's tail wagging in delight, glad to see that Junjie had at least calmed down a little bit.

Arjan glanced over at him for a moment, then away, asking a more simple question, "Are we heading for the docks? Will that sailor be helping us again?" They were heading through the Ashen City at a good pace now, with Junjie wrapped in his cloak, using it to hide his mismatched wings. Masking himself was a precaution to get him through to the docks without being noticed or bothered by those that didn't appreciate the presence of his kind. There was a moment where his thoughts flickered to the badge he carried with him but doubted it would really be of that much help. It was just a shiny piece of junk that wouldn't get him out of a real jam, that much he was certain of. As such they could only hope that the disguise worked out again today the same that it always did. How often after all were they forced to do this after all? Besides, people were normally far too caught up in their own stuff to really pay him any head anyway.

The sailor, a man that Junjie still felt he needed to get the name of even if they were on tenuous terms at best, really was their only one willing to help when it came to getting Arjan and Abellio aboard a ship. Junjie on the other hand used his magic to get himself places.

From the sounds of his grumbling it was easy to tell that Arjan wanted nothing more then to crunch the guy's face off for being such a jerk about things but Junjie was still appreciative. The only thing that stung was that the man was fine with flirting it up with his bonded until he saw what? An pair of wings? There was no reason for him to be all stuck up, it wasn't as though two males ran the risk of breeding after all! It was all utter nonsense!

It was that line of thought that nearly had Junjie tripping over his own feet before he turned to give Arjan a wide eyed look, "I never even considered such things about him!" He said in a hushed tone, though one that still drew a couple stares their way, "I suppose he could be considered handsome but... well, you know. That sort of thing isn't meant to be." He said to Arjan, waving one hand in a dismissing manner, as though it wasn't something that they needed to be discussing right now! He was grateful at least that he had his hood up, it would help him as far as hiding his flushed cheeks went he thought to himself. Of course even his hood couldn't save him from what came next.

"Handsome, huh? Trying to butter me up so that I will help your Khehora across to Eowyn again, huh?" The voice of the sailor that they were just talking about came from off to the side and Junjie felt his cheeks starting to color that much more, feeling utterly mortified now, "I suppose it's working though and I wouldn't mind helping... but there is one probably, the ship isn't here yet."

Junjie jerked his head over toward the man that had come to walk with them, separated from Junjie by Arjan who was still eyeballing him, "The ship isn't here yet? Did something happen? Is everyone alright?" Perhaps it was his Healer instincts kicking in but instantly he was starting to wonder if something had happened and if his powers were going to be needed as far as helping went.

The man waved off such a thought though, "It's nothing like that, a storm between here and Eowyn caused them to have to stay in harbor at Eowyn longer to avoid any risks. They will probably arrive... I'd say, tomorrow morning if their last message is to be believed. Best that you find a place to stay for the night. Might I suggest the inn that is nearby to the docks? It's cheap and won't care who or what you are if you tip the proprietor. Come on, I'd lead you." He said, motioning to the group before he took lead.

"I still don't like him." Arjan muttered to Junjie and Abellio even as they followed along after the man that would be leading them to a place they could rest up until the ship arrived. Had Junjie known everything that would occur today he might have left home a day later. Given he didn't have the power of foresight though he would just have to deal with what had happened thus far and keep striving ever forward like he always did.

Waiting on the Ship: Part 2

As the group of them headed toward the inn the sailor glanced over at Junjie for a moment, then ahead again, "If I might ask... what was it that the group of you were discussing that involved me?" The man asked, a question that had Junjie nearly tripping over his own feet though Abellio was there to catch him. The reaction seemed only to make the Orderite that much more curious as Junjie tried to right himself, "That bad, huh? Something along the lines of something bad followed by 'at least he's handsome' or something similar?" He supposed that would make the most sense, given everything that had happened since they first met he didn't think that Junjie and his Khehora were his biggest fans, were they?

Junjie gave him a glance once he'd gotten himself composed then sighed as he looked ahead again, "We were talking about... ahh... the subject of children and through a few twists and turns the conversation ended up on you." He said, then winced a little, knowing how bad that might sound, "Ahh... which isn't to say I was calling you one or anything... there were no insults involved." At least not on Junjie's end, Arjan on the other hand would likely only be too happy to badmouth the Orderite sailor day in and day out if he had his own way, huh?

"You're... do you have a child? Does that mean you have a wife?" The man asked suddenly, looking confused for a moment, likely wondering how Junjie could compliment him and call him handsome if he were taken by a woman with children.

The expression on his face was enough to soften Junjie's gaze even if deep down he was stiff a little miffed at the man. He looked so confused at the moment, enough so that it was almost funny, "No, no... nothing like that. I was just... I have been considering adoption you see. I have no wife and it's pretty likely that I won't be getting one any time soon." The only way he could see himself getting married would be due to the results of a lot of drinking on his part. Given that drinking wasn't a pastime that Junjie spent any time on though he supposed that his chances of accidentally ending up with a wife were next to nil. A good thing since he wasn't really looking for a wife. Now a handsome husband on the other hand, that he was all for though he knew the odds weren't with him. If he had a chance at such a thing the perhaps it would already have happened... though who knew what Seren and Abronaxus might bless him with in the future.

"I see." The man murmured, giving Junjie a once over, though it was something that proved difficult to do given that he was, as always, covered in that cloak of his. Likely due to what he was, he was probably hiding himself from the world to avoid others like himself, huh? Those would reject him due to deeply ingrained but baseless prejudice. He'd had nothing against Junjie before he found out after all, in fact he'd even helped to protect him from a Peisio attack. The fact that he had pulled such a one-eighty with him, it was a surprise that the guy even spoke with him anymore though that could be due merely to the fact that he was someone that was able to help Abellio and Arjan along. After a moment of deep thought he said, "You know... there is a place in the city where you might consider looking. There is an orphanage that houses children that have lost their families to the war efforts." He suggested, then added, "And, I suppose, if you do adopt maybe I could help you more? I mean... surely you can't use that warp spell of yours with a child in tow?"

Junjie blinked a couple times, taking in all of the information that the other was giving to him, turning to stare at him a moment, then looked away, "Why do you want to help me now? I mean... I don't even know your name and it's not like we are on friendly terms because of what I am." Wasn't that what he'd said? That because of what Junjie was that he didn't think he could let him aboard his ship? Something awful like that... but still, he did bring up some good ideas and some good points as much as he wanted to continue to shun the guy.

The sailor seemed to consider what Junji was saying before finally speaking up, "You know we are raised on stories about the other races, about how monstrous the Oblivionites are, nothing but a soulless bunch of brutes that we need to win again. The Dovaa on the other hand are just off hiding in their city letting the two sides go at it. Then there are those like you... the rumors and stories about your kind, they can be pretty bad, can into a person's head. It's easy to see those with mixed blood as being monsters. Maybe because you aren't as easy to figure out? I can't say." He gave a half shrug before continuing, "I suppose when I found out what you are all those old stories, all those old prejudices that said your kind were the worst of the worst all came flooding back. I don't expect forgiveness, I was a jerk, I am kinda surprised you didn't hit me... so... you know. I guess offering help is my way of trying to make amends."

He turned to look over at Junjie, giving a smile... one that faltered when he saw the death glare that Arjan was sending his way. It was obvious the Kiandri was displeased with the Orderite chatting Junjie up, it said so in his gaze, his stance, and the way his tail was lashing. Best to change the subject and fast, "Ah! Anyway, so my name is actually Lios." Best that he didn't rile the Khehora up anymore or else he might get chewed up!

Junjie starred at him for a long moment, turned to look over at Arjan who was feigning innocence in a manner he didn't buy, before turning back, "If you truly wish to make amends how about you show me where the orphanage is?" He wasn't sure if he was ready to adopt straight away, not when he meant to take his mother's advice seriously, but he could at least stop by, right? See what they required of potential parents? He could do his best to make himself the sort of man that would be a good role model for his potential child, right? At least that was the idea.

Lios gave a nod of his head, "I suppose that I could do that. Shall we visit there first then go to the inn?" He asked, motioning for the group to continue to follow along after him. Given that he likely knew the city better then they did his help was appreciated by two of the three. That only left Arjan...

Being led about by Lios was something that Arjan clearly disapproved of, not trusting the Orderite any further then he felt he could throw him, but he wouldn't complain. The man was serving Junjie well in showing him to the orphanage and the inn, once his usefulness ran out he'd chase him off, simple as that. Junjie wanted to adopt one day and the best place to visit when it came to such a thing was an orphanage, Lios knew where that was, as such he was the best one to lead. It didn't mean that Arjan had to like it though. If nothing else at least he was playing nice, something that Abellio was glad for since he knew well how Arjan could be when it came to Junjie's happiness and safety.

Dealing with Rejection

Junjie was just... exhausted, as well as a bit livid and humiliated... a mix of all of those feelings, and it had him just wanting to... run. How he wanted nothing more then to head to the inn, to flop over in the bed that he was going to be renting out for himself, crawl under the covers, and just stay there for a while. He didn't even look back at the big building that he had spent the last hour in, hurrying past his Khehora and Lios, without a word, rushing forward despite not knowing exactly where he was going. All he knew was that he wanted to put space between himself and that particular building.

"Ah?! Junjie?" Lios called after the retreating mage before he turned to look over at the Khehora. He looked the two of them over, Abellio had a shocked sort of look about him while Arjan... well... he just looked pissed. It was the expression that Lios was rather used to seeing since he met up with the group on the docks, Arjan seemed to constantly trying to glare holes through Lios, but this was different. He looked even more angry then usual, something that made him wondering what it was that was going on.

Abellio gave Lios a glance before he rushed along after Junjie, calling after him. When the Alihora was gone as well Arjan turned to give Lios a dirty look, "You... bah! This was was your stupid idea!" He spat out at the Orderite sailor before he too was hurrying after the other two. He couldn't care less if they lost Lios, they didn't need him, Arjan didn't want him, and the whole 'visit the orphanage' idea was all Lios's fault! Though... Arjan felt a little guilt as well. This was his fault, he'd given Junjie the idea to adopt, of course he would visit places like that, he should have known that something like this could happen. He gave a flap of his wings, hoping that it would help him to move faster so that he could catch up with his bonded.

As he went around the corner he he nearly crashed into Abellio, "Get out of the way! You feathery... idiot... eh?" Arjan looked around Abellio and saw Junjie leaning against the wall of the building, taking in the way that he was using his cloak to cover his face. He couldn't see him but he could feel it, his tears. His tail set to lashing behind him before he said, "They were... that harsh?" The fact that someone in that building had hurt him that much more... it enraged him like nothing. How and why?! What was going on?!

Junjie scrubbed at his face a moment, looked over the edge of his cloak, then put on the best wobbly smile that he could, "It's alright, Arjan, I... I understand their side of it... I suppose it just... stings a bit." He said, trying not to let it get to him though it was obvious that it had. The fact that he was trying to be strong seemed to only rile up the pair of Khehora that much more. Stepping forward he reached out, wrapping his arms around their necks, hugging them closer, resting his head against them. He drew in a deep breath, held it, then let it out slowly, "I... understand, I mean... I am not exactly the ideal candidate to raise an Orderite child. I am... what I am after all. The child... might very well be shunned by association... I don't want that." He found himself wondering if maybe the idea of adoption was a bad one... or perhaps he should rethink things a little? It was an idea that hurt though even just to consider.

"Perhaps a child more like you?" Abellio suggested, looking down at him, nuzzling against his hair between his horns, "I am sure there are others like you out there, little ones, those that didn't have someone to protect them in the way Miss Lena did for you?"

Arjan looked toward Abellio, then down at Junjie, then nodded, "Mmm... that might be a good idea. Then you needn't worry about dealing with anyone else who would hurt you." He'd hate to have to go back to that place and starting shocking people after all! He'd do it though if it meant protecting Junjie from those who were bullying him!

"Ah! There you are... what happened?" Lios's voice called out to Junjie, a little winded from having to chance after the three of them.

The three of them turned to look over at Lios for a moment, looked at each other, then Junjie finally said, "It's alright, Lios... sorry... It was a... rough sort of meeting. I... thank you for leading me there but now if you could bring us to the inn? I think that some rest is in order now." He wanted to sit down, to relax, breath, and get himself composed. He gave Lios the best smile he could muster, "If you don't mind?"

Lios nodded slowly before he said, "Alright, come on then." He wasn't sure what was going on, not exactly, but if he had to guess he'd say something had happened during Junjie's visit to the orphanage. He could tell by the exhausted look about Junjie that it was best not to ask questions about what had gone down. Instead he felt that he should just bring the group to them to the inn. Junjie seemed to be in need of rest and Lios was still trying to make amends, as such he'd do what he could for him, "It's not too far from here so it won't take but a few minutes to get there." He reassured the trio as he took the lead, heading to where the inn was waiting.

From Here to...?

Junjie was so terribly exhausted at the moment, making him wonder how his mother had even survived this sort of work for as long as she said that she'd done it. After the ship arrived, having been late in arriving due to a storm, he had returned to Eowyn post-haste, hoping that he could put himself to work to forget what had happened back in the city. It was one of those things that he had to be prepared for after all, the fact that not everyone was going to be exactly... accepting of him and what it was that he was planning. Not everyone thought that 'someone like him' should be able to adopt it would seem... or at least not an Orderite child at least. Despite sharing blood with that particular group it was nearly enough. It made him wonder if the others, the Dovaa and more then certainly the Oblvionites, would feel the same.

Once he'd arrived, and after a minimal amount of rest, he'd done as his mother suggested. He sought out smaller groups of people that were in need of help such as caravans, oasis camps, and the like, offering up his services as a healer to them. There were some of them who were rather leery of him at first, he was a hybrid after all, but after a few demonstrations of his power and how helpful they could be on those in need he found himself a bit more in demand. Surprisingly so in fact but he supposed that it made sense. When one was in need of a doctor it was only foolish if they sent away someone who could actually help them, even if it was someone like Junjie.

Wounds from battles with the various dragons that roamed Eowyn were the most common thing that he had to treat, wounds that had grit in them from the sand getting into them another, then there were people who got infections from cactus spines, bumps and bruises from animals taming adventures, brawlers in need of sobering up and patching up, and even the time that a woman was in need of a doctor to aid in child birth. Aiding in that was a whole new level of terror that was for sure, the way that a small, petite woman could turn into a monster in a snap. He was almost certain a couple times during that incident that she was on the verge of strangling him just on the off chance it might help the pain a little bit. It was a powerful moment though, one that only cemented his desire to one day adopt a child of his own... though it caused the ache of the incident back in the Ashen City to flare up as well. Something he was forced to fend off as he continued onward.

Sadly he knew full well that the 'one day' he was thinking about was not this day, there was still so much that he had to do here and now though. Not to mention that the gift of a child wasn't something that was just going to fall out of the sky and into his lap... and if that happened he was pretty well certain he would have a heart attack. Still, the mere fact that he was wanted, even needed by those he met in Eowyn, it did help. It was a nice feeling and one that he wanted to continue to be gifted with. He didn't even mind that he found himself so busy these days, if anything that helped too. The more he worked to serve those around him the less he had to think about certain things. Instead of being chased off due to his mixed blood these were people who actually seemed to be seeking him out now!

He was given a tent of his own to use in one of the oasis camps and it was there that he was at the moment, having shed all but his linen pants, and he flopped over on his sleeping pallet. Once there he didn't move until both Arjan and Abellio managed to wiggle their way inside despite both being so big. They sat down on either side of him, watching him as he lay there already half asleep despite having just laid down, neither seeming to want to speak up though it was obvious that they had something on their minds. Junjie could get the vague feeling that both of them were trying not to bother them. After a time Abellio finally leaned in, nuzzling against him, then wiggled his way closer so that he could lay down next to him.

"You're tired, Jun?" He murmured, glancing toward Arjan, then both looked toward the opening to the tent, before looking back again. There were men outside looking for Junjie both the Khehora didn't seem as though they were too sure about rousing their sleepy bonded. He needed sleep even if the men were asking after him.

Junjie opened his eyes, lifting a hand to rub it against them, before he glanced over at Abellio, "Hm? Men are asking after me?" He asked, reaching out for Abellio, sitting up, "Did they say what they need?" When the Khehora shook their heads at him he gave a little yawn, "Let's go and talk with them then." He said, helping himself to his feet with their help before stepping outside. There were a few men that he knew, those that he'd healed a couple of them before after all. He found himself wondering if perhaps something had happened? Did someone need more healing?

Tilting his head to one side he asked, "Can I help you?" He asked, giving a flutter of his wings as he stood there, waiting for an indication of what had brought these men to his tent.

Caravan Under Siege

After some chatting with the men that had come to visit with him Junjie saw to packing up what he would need for this particular journey. It seemed as though some of the men that he had been helping out were going on a hunt for Gaili, something that they were hiring Junjie on to aid them with. Best to have a healer along when you were going on such a trip. Junjie hadn't faced off against the Gaili himself but it was something that he was eager to do, wanting to see what they were like in battle. Not to mention that it was always a good idea to gather more orbs. He knew that there would come a time when he needed to bring more of them to Arick after all, to hand them over to the Dovaa, proof that he was still training hard. It was an odd thing, giving the orbs over to the man, paying allegiance to the Dovaa when Junjie didn't care for the one that was in charge of their group. He supposed that was neither here nor there though, he couldn't fault a whole people for one member and he'd continue to go through with the ritual as long as it was required of him.

Giving a smile he turned to look over at Abellio, then to his other side toward Arjan, "It's nice to be able to travel like this, huh?" It had been some time since he'd done something like this, traveling with a group, feeling safe and welcome, it was a nice feeling. Perhaps with the group he would find himself able to settle down? A thought that he kept within this small group though, not wanting to get his hopes up too high lest they be dashed. He liked the group but he couldn't help but to be a little leery of having them turn on him just because he was different. He didn't think it would be an easy thing, to actually feel at ease with someone who wasn't already close to him.

"I think that it will be alright." Abellio said, looking forward toward the small hunting party that they were traveling with. It was something as though they were worthy of trust. As such the Alihora wouldn't mind aiding these people alongside his bonded. Now Arjan on the other hand... Abellio turned to glance over toward his fellow Khehora, giving him a questioning look.

Arjan didn't even look the way of Abellio merely saying, "It will be fine and if they dare try something... well, I will deal with it." He said, giving a toothy grin, tail lashing. He might not have been able to sink his teeth into Lios but he would just make up for it by chomping down on these men if even a single one of them thought to mess with 'his' Junjie. The Kiandri's thoughts were enough to make both Junjie and Abellio to stare at him, seemingly sure how to answer to them. Instead they merely let him go about his mental grumblings and continued their walk ever forward.

Junjie found himself wondering where they would spot the Gaili, what their sizes and numbers would be like, what the terrain would be like. Would he have any sort of baring on the battle? Would they need him to battle? Would they want him to stay at the sidelines so that he could stick to healing while they battled? So many questions, so few answers... probably because he wasn't asking them. Perhaps he felt a tinge of fear at the thought of questioning those he was with? He didn't want to insult them after all... he wanted to be useful without bothering them. He gave a little sigh as he lifted a hand to his hood, giving it a slight tug but it did nothing. It was already as down as it could go given the position of his horns. How he wished that he was able to pull it low enough to hide behind.

"It's alright, Junjie. I really don't think that you should be worrying about them right now. They seem to be pretty amiable." Abellio reassured him again, feeling that the poor boy had dealt with rejection one too many times. It probably wasn't good for him, it made him a bit more withdrawn then Abellio liked. He used to be far more cheerful and friendly when he was little. He just wanted to help him to get back to being so friendly, "Come on, this hunt will be fun! Just think, no scary monstrous Khehora this time!" He said, nudging into Junjie as he offered up that particular insight.

"I guess your right. Better just battling a few Gaili with potential allies then battling Aeduan with that scary guy." That had been one meeting that he really hoped wouldn't be repeated. That guy was just... terrifying. This was far less so, in fact by comparison this should be a walk in the part as far as the condition of his heart went. Giving a smile he patted Abellio on the neck.

Just as he was about to relax, to actually feel as though this was all going to go well, he heard the leader of their group calling for Junjie, saying that it was... an emergency? Rushing ahead, fearing for what might have happened, he nearly ran into the leader's back when the man stopped walking and squatted down. Junjie was able to recover, just barely, before squatting as well, "What is it?" He asked, then looked forward across the sands in the direction the man was pointing. Given the blowing sand and the way the sun reflected off of it's shimmery surface it took a moment to spot what the man was pointing at. When he saw it his eyes went wide, "W-What... what are those?"

"Ordon, a rather primitive race, one that is a bit of a pain in the a**." The man muttered, watching them, "If you look passed them, what do you see?" He waited for Junjie's tentative answer before nodding, "I don't know if anyone is left in that caravan but we really need to check. If there are any survivors we will need to clear out the Ordon and see to it that they are rescued." From here one could see a couple bodies laying in the sand. If there were anyone still alive it would be a miracle... but it was something that they had to check out!

"Alright, let's get ready then." Junjie said, turning to look at his Khehora who were awaiting instruction. Pushing up to his feet he hurried over to them, "We need to get to that caravan, get ready for what might be along fight." He told them, taking his dragon headed staff off of Abellio's back in preparation for the upcoming fight.

A Little Miracle

Junjie was resting in his tent, back with the group that he had been staying with. His eyes were closed but he wasn't asleep, instead he was just resting his eyes for a moment. He hadn't slept a lot since the little one had been born, not because she kept him away but because he just found himself checking on her even five minutes. There seemed to be so little that he knew about babies, especially special babies like her, and as such he couldn't help but to want to check on her constantly.

"It's alright, Junjie, she still sleeps." Came Abellio's voice, the feathery Alihora leaned over to get a peek at the baby before turning back to Jun, nuzzling him between the horns. He knew that the last couple days had taken it out of Junjie, both physically and mentally, and he meant to do all that he could to ease the pressure he was feeling. Arjan felt the same way, even now he was outside prowling around the perimeter of the camp, keep an eye out for dangers. It was something that amused Abellio, no matter how against the idea of a child Arjan had been before now that one was present he was doing his best to help out, even with things such as playing the part of a guardian.

'It's because I don't want to get yanked on again!' Came Arjan's complaining voice to Junjie, not wanting for them to think for a moment that he was falling under the little girl's spell in the same manner that everyone else had!

Opening his eyes up Junjie glanced over at the little makeshift bed the girl was sleeping in, one that was made out of a basket normally used for carrying various goods when the camp was moved from one oasis to another, the group often seeming as though they were looking for the best hunting grounds. One of them had been kind enough to help him to make a bed out of the basket, a man that had been there the day that the little one had been born, one of the same men that had been forced to drag Junjie away from the caravan. It had been a rough time, finding someone in need of his help, someone he had been unable to save, try as he might. He'd expended all of his magical energy trying to save the Oblivionite woman but the damage had been too severe and they hadn't arrived quickly enough. The fact that her baby had been born alive was a testament of the woman's will as a mother, she wanted her child to live.

"It's not your fault, Junjie. It was the fault of those strange creatures that attacked her!" Abellio said in a hushed tone, not wanting to wake the baby but wanting to scold Junjie nevertheless. The fact that he blamed himself was something that bothered Abellio greatly. He had done all he could! The woman had held on to save her child even despite her grave wounds, it showed how strong she was if you asked Abellio.

Sitting up Junjie stretched out all over, then turned to look toward the basket that the baby was sleeping in, "I just wish things had turned out differently was all." There was so much that he had wanted to ask the woman after all. The baby, she was different, she was special, she wasn't a pure Oblivionite. Instead she was much like himself, she was a mix of heritage, in fact her eyes held light in them much like that of others he'd met in the past that had mixed blood. Tilawen, Tyrok, even Lilith to a degree had those eyes, beautiful eyes that made him smile a little just at the thought of them. She really was a sweet little girl and he was glad that he had been able to save her, the quest becoming though with her mother gone what of her father? Was he still alive? Was he out there somewhere waiting for his Oblivionite bride to arrive? Or had been one of the others slain by those strange lizardmen? He hadn't seen an Orderite among the dead so he couldn't really say.

"I will need to try to find him." He murmured, certain that the man would want to know what had happened to his lover, as well as know that his child still lived. For the time being though it wasn't safe to travel too far, especially given that one of the woman was kind enough to be a wet nurse for the little one. They needed to stick close by for the time being, until the little one was ready for more solid foods at least, and then he would see about going to Serenia, perhaps? Though how difficult would it be for him to get to his mother with a baby that looked as she did? She was obviously of Oblivionite blood so she might very well not be welcome. Perhaps they would head to Ayr then? The Dovaa Sage would likely still be there and if anyone could help them it would be him. Or should he go to Aisko where Rio and Lilith lived? His options were more then one might expect, it was just a shame they were so spread out.

Abellio, nudged Junjie in the shoulder then, drawing him out of his thoughts, "The baby is starting to squirm." He said before turning attention back to the girl who was just waking up. Leaning in close he gave her a smile, "Hello there little whelp! You awa...ack!" The Alihora gave a little squeak when the girl's tiny hands caught hold of and tugged at some of his feathers. He didn't move though, not wanting to cause her any harm, and instead just let her yank on him until Junjie came over to free him from her surprisingly tight hold, "Phew, quite the grip."

Junjie chuckled and nodded, "Quite." He murmured before carefully scooping the girl up, leaning in to give her a kiss on the forehead, "Let's see if you need a change then we will see about bringing you for your afternoon meal." She shared food alongside the wet nurse's own child, one of a different race then the girl he was caring for, and it made him feel good to see it. Perhaps she would have a good friend in the boy he thought to himself.

After a he was done changing her into something clean and dry he turned to look over at Abellio and said, "We should think of a good name for her. I have been putting it off in hopes that her father might arrive but since we aren't quite sure where in the world he might be... well, it might be best for us to come up with something." Pushing to his feet he scooped up his cloak, wrapping it around himself and the baby, "We will do that after you eat though, little one, I don't want to keep you from a full belly." Giving a smile he left the tent, Abellio following close behind, and headed for another tent that was nearby while the baby happily yanked on a lock of his hair.

Much to Think On

It had taken a bit of thought on the part of Junjie but finally he had come up with a name for the little girl that he was taking care of and that name was Keona. It was the sort of name that he felt was one that suited her due to the meaning. The name meant 'Gift from God'. Turning to look over at Abellio he gave a bit of a smile, "I think the question then becomes 'which God' huh?" The girl was a mix of all three races, meaning that she was a very special gift, one that he felt should be loved and protected because there were those out there who wouldn't see little Keona in the same manner that he felt she should be treated. That merely meant that she would need to be strong so that she would be able to hold her head high in the future he thought to himself. Leaning over he gave her a kiss on the forehead, "It will be alright, we will keep you safe." He told her, giving the little one a smile.

There was a snort from Arjan, "We can keep her safe for only so long, Junjie. We need to consider training her once she is old enough for such things." The Kiandri told him, feeling that as the responsible one, as well as the only on who wasn't as bedazzled by everything that the little whelp did, that it was his task to make sure she was well trained. Just as with Junjie he would be sure to get on her case to make sure that she was able to fight! Just hoping for the best wasn't going to get her ahead in the world, she had to be ready to fight for what she wanted just as Junjie always had to fight for everything he wanted.

There was a quiet, thoughtful pause on Junjie's part before he gave a bit of a sigh, "Maybe we will be lucky and things will be better when she grows up." While he hoped that would be the case he knew full well he couldn't bet on the end of the war happening. As such he would need to follow Arjan's suggestion, wouldn't he? Not something that he liked the sound of but then again he was sure that his mother had felt the same way when it came to him learning to battle as he had. He'd had the aid of the Dovaa Sage, something that he might have to seek out for Keona. It wasn't something that they didn't have to worry about right now though, not when she was still so tiny. It was still their duty to look after her and make sure that she was kept safe. The day that she had to fight was something he hoped wouldn't happen any time soon. He would rather that she stayed small enough so that he could keep her safe.

Turning to look at Arjan he finally said, "You are right, she will need to learn, but not quite yet. Given she is too little to even stay awake for long periods of time I am sure that she doesn't need to be battling dragons or carrying weapons quite yet. If you want to help train her when she is bigger though I suppose I can allow it. I know you have done well in motivating me in the past after all."

Arjan seemed to puff up and preen a bit, seeming to be quite pleased with Junjie's words. Good, so his bonded agreed with him, "Good, I will see to it that she gets strong." It would be a lot harder then training Junjie though. The girl wasn't his bonded after all meaning that he would need to talk out loud to her a lot, giving her vocal instruction and orders. It would take a bit longer he was sure but it would be worth it if she was a better student then Junjie could be at times. He really had to push to get him to listen at times when he found something more interesting to do... things such as gallivanting about to play with his friends. Foolish wastes of time that took up valuable training time. He'd teach the little whelp how to better manage her time he thought to himself, tail swishing behind him thoughtfully.

"Just don't push her too hard, Arjan, or she might not like you." Abellio spoke up, not wanting to see the Kiandri picking on Keona even if it was because he wanted to see her succeed. Surely he must know that pushing too hard wouldn't end well? He'd rather not see her balk at her training because Arjan was too harsh a teacher after all, "Besides... we don't even know yet what sort of fighter she will be. Like our Jun she has much potential." He couldn't help but to wonder what sort of weapon she might pick and what clan she would want to be a part of! It was all so exciting!

Those thoughts seemed to get Junjie thinking as well, "Mmm, her clan... I hadn't even thought of that. I should probably speak with the Dovaa Sage about that, to see if it would be possible for her to get her a grand orb when the time for such a things comes." He mused out loud to the two Khehora.

Abellio gave a smile and said, "I am sure that he will help, he always does." He told his bonded before he gave Keona a glance, "Will you have her become Ysali like we are?" He asked a curious manner, wonder if Junjie wanted for her to follow in his footsteps, "Or will you encourage her to be Peisio like your mother?"

"Pft, she should be Kiandri like the Dovaa Sage and myself." Arjan spoke up, a smirk appearing on his face as he spoke. It was obvious that he was trying to pick a fight with Abellio over which clan it was that Keona should pick.

Both Khehora likely believed that their clan was the best clan and while Junjie enjoyed the powers that he had as a Ysali Dovaa he felt as though that was all a part of getting to truly choose his clan. He smiled as he looked down at the little girl who was resting in his arms before he finally said, "I will likely allow her to choose her own clan. Meeting others, such as the two of you, the Dovaa Sage, and of course mother will help her to see some of the clans. It would be good if she could meet with Tilawen, Rio, and Lilith as well, that would allow her to see Firani and Aiskala up close as well." He found himself wondering if Lilith had decided upon what clan she wanted to be a part of herself. It was something he'd have to ask her the next time he saw her though he couldn't say that she would be that much more talkative when next time. It likely depended on her mood.

"You still think we will find Tilawen?" Abellio asked in a curious manner, knowing full well that Junjie wanted to find his missing friend but given how much time had passed he felt that such a thing was unlikely. They had been searching for ages without so much of a single sighting of her, even Rio hadn't seen her...

Junjie glanced at Abellio, then dropped his gaze to looking at Keona who reminded him of Tilawen if only due to her coloration. The dark skin and reddish hair were very much like his friend he thought for an idle moment before he said, "I... want to believe that we will. She has been missing for a while but maybe she is off training? She might just want to get strong so that she can show her father up or something." At least that was what he hoped. Even if it were possible that he might not find her he felt that since he hadn't seen her gravestone and hand't heard news of her passing that she was still out there. He'd keep looking until he found her or the a fore mentioned stone.

"For now, let's think of happier things. Such as possible travel. We won't be able to go until Keona is no longer in need of her wet nurse but we still need to figure out exactly how we will be getting home to Serenia or to Ayr as we are." Two Hybrids of different mixes and two Khehora, it made travel interesting that was for sure. They would likely need to consult with Lios, something he felt guilty about since he didn't want to see as though he were using the Orderite but still, the man did want to make up to Junjie his past indiscretions. Maybe it would be alright to get some help from him? Given it wasn't needed straight away though he saw no reason to worry about it overly much at the moment. He'd worry about that later but he wanted it out there, just in case the other two came up with better ideas.

His thoughts were interrupted as Keona started to squirm and fuss a bit, a sure sign that she was starting to get hungry. He had been with her long enough that he was starting to get a hang of what she was trying to communicate to him. Be it that she was hungry, sleepy, or that she needed to be changed he was starting to slowly figure it out. She tossed in other things from time to time to test him, things like wanting to play, wanting Abellio to come closer so she could yank on him, and the like. Still, at least he was learning. Pushing to his feet he said, "Come on, let's see about getting you some more food." He cooed at Keona, getting a little smile from her before he started out of the tent then to where the wet nurse waited, ever flanked by his Khehora who were even more protective then ever now that they were guarding two Hybrids instead of one.
