Jai quickly threw his leg over the broom and straddled it. He grasped the handle tightly with his slightly sweaty hands and glanced around. By all appearances everyone was doing pretty well. He couldn't help but notice that Leoben had done rather well. He shot a grin over at the other boy and waved.
"What does it look like from up there?" He asked in a loud voice.
Then he figured instead of asking he could find out if he find out himself. He pushed off as hard as he could, though with his weak leg muscles it really wasn't that much of a push.

Jai was rocked back and forth as his broom shot up. he clenched the broom tighter as he rose to join Leoben in the air. Whew, three feet high was pretty high. He thought as he looked around. Finally once he was able to stabilize himself he couldn't help but grin. It was pretty awesome to be on a broom and he could hardly wait to try and fly around on it!
"It's soo awesome up here! I want to fly everyday!"

Aglaia admiringly watched as Leoben and Jai both succeeded without much trouble. Now if only she could do that as well! "Nice job guys!" She called to them.
Gritting her teeth with determination, she threw her leg over the broom glad that she had thought to put a pair of shorts on under her skirt. That had been a good insight of hers. She laughed at the one girl who argued with the teacher and ended up turning sideways on her broom.
She put her feet on the ground, and pushed off as hard as she could.

Aglaia squeaked as the broom shot up into the air, her skirt flying up around her waist. Thank goodness she had those shorts on! Though she imagined a few of the guys had probably laughed to see that they were a bright pink and had green polka dots on them.
"Whoa!" She exclaimed, clutching the broom for dear life. "Settle down!" She told the broom as it rocked her side to side for a few moments. She was relieved when it settled down. That had been a bit odd. Did brooms have a mind of their own or something? that was definitely something she'd have to find out later on.

Professor Drake thought it was going pretty well until one Slytherin girl--being the little spoiled pureblood wizard that she probably was--refused to do something so manly as ride a broom. "And yet your dignity allows such rude and barbaric behavior, Miss King?" Professor Drake inquired, feeling the veins pop on her forehead in annoyance. "Ten points from Slytherin--and the points will keep dropping unless you get on that broom, Miss King. If I need to tell you again, it'll be twenty points more and you'll have detention for the whole month."
That would hopefully shut the girl up. "I see everyone else is on their brooms," Professor Drake observed, looking at the group. "Good--Auria, I know how to count. That's more than three feet," Professor Drake glowered, narrowing her eyes at the boy. "Don't be a show off and come join the rest of us."
With a sigh, Professor Drake continued to hover on her broom. "Nextly, class!" She rose her voice so the chattering would stop, "You are going to slowly fly around the field. Riding a broom involves shifting your weight from side to side and willing the broom forward." Why did she have a feeling that this would go horribly awry? "I want everyone to take it slow for now and make sure to spread out! I don't want any midair collisions. Also! No higher than ten feet, alright?"
Round Three: - Your kid is going to be moving around on the broom--they can go above 3 feet but not higher than 10.

Jai was grinning like a fool, his bright teeth flashing in his darkly tanned face. He could hardly wait to fly! He waited eagerly, kicking one foot back and forth under the broom. He stopped and looked around, hearing someone say his name from below. he glanced down and saw a girl waving at him. he shot a smile back at her and waved back. "Thanks Aglaia!" He called back jubilantly.
He watched as she shot up into the air on her own broom. That had been rather close! It had looked as though the broom was going to rock her off. He wiped his forehead in relief.
When she came to a stop a few feet away he waved at her again. "Hey Aglaia! Nice job!"
His attention was taken back to the Professor when she began to speak once more. He held back a laugh when he heard the teacher berating the Slytherin Girl that had been arguing about getting on her broom the way everyone else had. That was probably going to get her House mates mad at her. He shook his head and frowned slightly. "That's a bad blow. I imagine her friends aren't going to be too thrilled with her for losing them points." He commented.
Jai was surprised to hear that to make the broom move one just had to will it to move. He had thought it would have been harder than that. He was definitely going to go higher, but he wasn't so sure about going ten feet high. That seemed a bit too far for him. He hoped that Professor Drake wouldn't be mad if people didn't want to go that high.

Aglaia settled down on her broom, trying to get comfortable. She glanced over at Jai and shot him a triumphant smile. It was nice to have people congratulating her on her good work. Though..her broom had done most of it. She glanced down at her broom and fondly rubbed it. "Nice job to you too." She whispered trying not to be obvious about it. She wondered if anyone else had thought to thank their brooms.
She tried to concentrate on what the teacher was saying to the Slytherin girl but she could barely hear what was being said. She was a bit surprised by Jai's comment, he must have super sensitive hearing. "Oh, she lost House points for that fit she was throwing? Well..that's not good." She replied.
She strained her ears to hear what the teacher was saying about how they'd make their brooms fly. What was that? Willing them to move? Hmm..well if it was that easy then she might just be pretty good at it.
"Good luck Jai, Are you going super high? I think I'll try and stay close to this height." She said nervously. She really wasn't comfortable going much higher..her fear was already starting to cause her to shake.

Leoben just rose his eyebrow at the Slytherin, watching in disbelief as she managed to lose ten points from her house. Bummer, he thought--though it wasn't quite heartfelt. Gryffindors and Slytherins never got along very well and as many of his upper classmates might say, let Slytherins lose all the points they have. He did feel bad for the girl--he knew how competitive his own house was and Slytherin matched that spirit... it was unlikely that she wouldn't be the brunt of nasty comments.
After that was done, though, Professor Drake instructed them on the third stage of instructions. Will it around? Sounds easy enough, Leoben thought to himself, leaning back on his broom and... willing?

Jai glanced over at Aglaia, it sounded like she was talking to her broom. What a queer thing to do! He smiled and shook his head.
Jai was a bit surprised that she hadn't heard the professor, perhaps her hearing just wasn't as good as his. Odd..he had never thought he had that good of hearing, but it seemed as though Aglaia hadn't heard the teacher's conversation as well as he had.
He frowned slightly and cast a look at her. "You did hear that about us willing the brooms to move?" He didn't want Aglaia to have a problem, and with her hearing not being as good.
"Uh no, I don't plan on it." He replied a bit surprised he hadn't been the only one to not want to go higher. He frowned noticing for the first time just how nervous she was. And she was shaking with fright. She really shouldn't be on a broom.
"That would probably be a good idea." Jai replied trying to assure her. "Tell you what, I'll stay close to you too. Heights really aren't my cup of tea either."
Jai leaned forward, willing his broom to move. His broom jerked forward a few feet and then stopped abruptly causing Jai to grip his broom tighter. "Whoa broom..a little cooperation would be nice!" He muttered in annoyance.
The broom jerked forward again and then stopped. Gosh! Was it going to be like this all the whole time? Jai could swear that his heart was lodged into his throat.
"Come on, can we please fly?" He begged trying to will it to go forward without stopping.
The broom slowly and gently started forward once more, this time continuing on without stopping. Jai experimentally leaned to the left and was delighted when the broom slowly turned in that direction. He leaned to the right, and it slowly swerved to the right. He kept leaning to the right and did a complete circle in the air. With a laugh of triumph, he turned around and shot a beaming smile at the other kids who hadn't felt like going any higher.
"This is soo much fun!" He crowed.

Aglaia blushed when she realized Jai had seen her talking to her broom. She hadn't spoken that loud, how come he had heard her? This kid must really have sharp ears.
"Yes I heard that," She replied a bit sharply at his question. She wasn't completely deaf. Then she sighed, he had only mentioned it to help her, he hadn't meant to hurt her feelings. Despite Jai's odd hobbies, he was a rather nice kid. "Sorry, I didn't mean tot snap." She added and took several deep breathes to calm herself. Letting her irish temper rise tended to make her hot headed and a pretty bad risk taker. She was not going to take any chances nor was she going to try and show off.
"Oh well that's good." She replied trying to steady her nerves. She took several more deep breathes, and tried to still herself.
She flashed a grateful smile at Jai. He really was a sweet heart. "Thanks I appreciate it."
She watched as his broom moved forward, only to jerk to a sudden stop. Her heart fluttered in her chest in alarm. Oh no! She thought in alarm. It would be horrible if Jai were to have a bad experience on the broom. She breathed in relief when he finally managed to get his broom under control.
She shot a smile at Jai and then with a deep breath and a sudden calm coming over her, she willed her broom to move over to where he was. The broom sailed smoothly over to where Jai was without any sort of jerky movements, much to her relief. She probably would have thrown up if that had happened to her.
"It Is rather fun." She replied now sitting about a foot away from him. "I think I could get used to this. But only at short levels. Going high..that probably won't happen any time soon." She admitted tossing her loose pony tail over her shoulder.
"Now," She began with gritted teeth. "Time to try that swerving thing."
The broom moved forward again at a more moderate pace and she slowly leaned to the right, making a gradual curve and then leaned to the left and maneuvered her broom back towards Jai. She relaxed slightly when she came to a stop and grinned over at him. "This seems to be getting a little easier every time I try."

Aizalin smirked. He was ready to do this. He could fail or succeed right now and he was still ready. Prepared for any injury that might come his way in the event that he messed up, he smirked at the broom beneath his legs. He did as instructed; leaned forward and shifted his weight. He smiled as he willed the broom to push forward and then pulled back to let the broom fly higher in the air.

Playing with a strand of hair that fell in front of her face, Marcelyn waited for the next set of instructions. Getting the broom to rise and then hover seemed easy enough so actually flying around the broom should be good as well. Hearing what Professor Drake had to say, the young Slytherin took a deep breath before leaning forward on the broom.
Trying to keep her balance was going to be the hard part. She supposed that being athletic could be a key part to broom flying and that was Marcelyn's problem. She had never been good with her balance which resulted in some people calling her clumsy and them getting the cold shoulder or a punch to the face. She frowned and hoped that none of her fellow Slytherins or the Gryffindors made fun of her. She was not past casting hexes on people even if it resulted in her getting in trouble.
She frowned and struggled to keep her weight shifted in the right way to balance herself. Leaning forward she began willing the broom to move.

Brian had done well so far and he couldn't wait to actually fly. He waited for just a moment watching his classmates. His foot shook with excitement and with a whoop he pulled back on the handle ready to go higher.

Brian let go another holler as the broom moved exactly as he wanted. Smiling he turned around and flew over some of the other students' heads. "This is so cool!!" Thinking he was being smart he did a loop. The feeling was intense and he loved the sensation. He suddenly knew how a bird felt and it was glorious.

This was it. They were finally being allowed to fly... well sort of. Seriously? No higher than 10 feet? what kind of restriction was that? Ah well. He allowed a brief smile to quirk his lips before concentrating. Now, all he had to do was will it up and steer. Shouldn't be too difficult.
