(( Lucette: Sidewalk, with Shasta and Meilei ))
"It is not stupid." Lucette remarked, taken aback by the sudden attention that [Mismatched Socks gave her, "But rather....careless?" Goodness, some people had started to gather around them, wondering what was going on, "Perhaps you both should lower your voices..." she hissed, but her interjections went unheard. She had to admit she was a little anxious about the girl in red, because from the way it looked now, there was no turning back for her. Her face was probably turning redder than her dress from the looks of it.
"Let's...err...calm down, shall we?", she hoped that maybe something she said would relieve the situation and both girls would leave, but again, her voice was left unheard. Why couldn't the both of them just be quiet and get on with their lives? Was this some sort of American thing, where one had to constantly argue out small altercations (not that there weren't people like that in France, but seriously, these girls really needed to calm down)?
Lucette stood motionless as she saw Shasta grab the ice cream cone out of a stranger's hand, her hands covering her mouth in shock as she saw the ice cream hit Mismatched Socks in the chest. Her outfit wasn't that nice looking to begin with, so there was nothing to mourn about...but it was still pretty insulting all the same. Lucette made a move to follow after Shasta, but the other girl had disappeared, melting into the crowd of people. "Oh mon dieu! Pourquoi?!" she let out a loud groan, reaching into her bag and taking out a pack of tissues, "H-here.", she held them out to Meilei, "You should be needing it." Now if only the crowd of people would go away...

A flutter of excitement boiled up in Meridith's stomach when she saw the happy glow in her princess' eyes. In that split moment, she forgot about anything and everything that could have weighed heavily on her shoulders and stepped forward with opening arms to catch her sweet Sophie. She pulled her up into her arms, swinging her about in a small circle, before she kissed the top of her golden head in greeting. "My sweet princess," she said in joyful reply, patting the girl's hair as she pressed her face to her stomach. There was nothing better than being with her princess, she was sure. A smile pulled up onto her cheeks. Nothing better.
Feeling the tug of Sophie's hands, Meridith dropped to one knee, a regular princely action, and looked towards her princess now level with her eye to eye. There was a secret to be told, and it was with happy abandon that Meridith accepted the fantasy world of her princess and tilted her ear to hear the royal message. Though, usually in previous attempts, events like this were accepted wholeheartedly and without thinking. There would be an almost audible click as Meridith switched from the real world to the fantasy one, but it was with a bit of sorrowful regret that Meridith noticed she was still in the real world while her heart and body played the actions of the prince that she once used to be. She tried not to let it show on her face, letting only a glimmer of sadness shine in her eyes before she blinked it away, replacing it with playful excitement for her princess.
"A beautiful Enchantress? Lost? Why, there is no nobler quest, your highness," Meridith said with a smile and a furrow of her brows. She lifted up from her kneel and took Sophie's hand in her own, nodding at her with an air of promise, "Fret not, my Sophie, we will aid this lost Enchantress. It is our duty, is it not? As prince and princess of the land? Let us to her aid."
With her small hand grasped in her own, Meridith warily made her way through the crowd back towards Queen Chloe, keeping Sophie with her. She knew to keep her hands clasped with Sophie's at all times in a crowd. She had to protect her princess. Together, they weaved their way back to Chloe and came to stand by her and the curious enchantress. With the dignified grace of an imaginary prince, Meridith approached with a deep bow and lifted up with a humble flourish, smiling with an embarrassed furrow of her brow at Chloe and the green eyed girl.
"Prince Meridith and Princess Sophie, at your service," she announced, fixing her tote bag as she straightened back up, and tucking her violet hair behind her ear, "Hello, Queen Chloe. I've been told there is a quest to be had? One to help this beautiful Enchantress? Princess Sophie and I are at your behest."
Taking a moment to observer the girl who so daintily hid behind the hip of Sophie's mother, Meri tilted her head, in an effort to see her. She had such brilliant green eyes, and she looked so...So worried. Meridith's stomach soured a bit, from instinct, from sympathy, she wasn't sure what, but she knew that something was wrong.

(( Priya Chapal: Arriving near the buses with her brother, Jaya ))
"You meeting a boy here, Priya? Eh? A cute little boy with a baby face? Huh?" The tall male teased his little sister, whose berry-colored gaze was venomous as she looked at him. He let out a laugh, and slung an arm around her broad shoulders. She grimaced, but didn't shake him off, knowing that it wouldn't do any good. "I was surprised to see you in a dress; you must be meeting a boy here, Priiiiiiyaaaaa." He laughed again, tipping her hat forward to cover her eyes. She let out a cry, righting the cap and sending a fiery glare Jaya's way.
They were quite the pair, and they certainly looked like siblings. Jaya's hair was dark brown, his natural color, but it was styled in a fauxhawk and slicked with gel. He, certainly, was meeting a girl (or at least on the prowl for one or three). Priya had indeed dressed up for the occasion, having heard that it was quite the party when Teufel Day came around. She looked rather uncomfortable in her cream-colored dress, but she cleaned up rather nicely. Her patterns were a bit calmer than normal tonight, with a simple argyle on the skirt of her dress and plain on top, but she laced the forest green of her hat through the outfit with her favorite pair of boots. She pulled at the hem of her dress a little, clearly unaccustomed to the feel of wind on her legs, and glanced around like a cornered bird. Jaya nudged her again, whistling low.
"Ooohhh, hello Maria. Okay love, I'm out. Make good choices!" He mimicked their mother's trill and slunk away toward a pretty blonde in a green dress, and Priya rolled her eyes. Jaya was a notorious ladies' man, and he didn't show any signs of changing his ways. Priya gave him one last glance before making her way away from the buses, arms folded across her chest. She wished she had brought her trusty jacket, with its oilslick colors. But no, her mother had been so eager for her to wear this little shawl, that barely qualified to provide any warmth. She had indulged the wishful woman for tonight, deciding that she wasn't up for a struggle.
She wondered what she should do first. Crowds had always made her uncomfortable, with their pushing and shoving, and the complete invasion of personal space. Priya liked her personal space the way it was: personal. But she's need to just roll with the figurative punches at this point; there was no escaping the bustle of people. It was an absolute madhouse! She avoided a careening child with long blonde pigtails, chuckling softly at her innocence. It had been a while since she'd been that excited about anything.
As she was headed to the main walkway to catch a bit of the parade, a commotion drew her attention. She saw a golden-eyed girl screaming at another, much more bold and vibrant girl, and a flash of brown and white as she aimed an ice cream cone straight for the other girl's chest. Brows raised, Priya watched in shock as the girl stormed off, and slowly made her way over. Another girl was tending to the messy one, but she was still concerned. Sending a wary glance toward where the angry one had disappeared, she poked her head into their bubble, raising a brow. "Excuse me. I couldn't help but see that little...incident just now. Are you alright?" She asked, tucking a piece of red-wine hair behind her ear. Surely something had been going on that had prompted such an outburst.
---------------------------------
(( Charlotte Riley: food stalls, working at a cotton candy stand ))
Charlotte tucked a piece of chocolate hair behind her ear, letting out a sigh. All these people were so excited for a night of celebration, of fun, but not her. She would rather be at home, curled up with a good book in bed or in her favorite chair in the family's little library, but no; she had signed up to work a shift at the Rosaline Academy's cotton candy stand, to prove to her parents that she truly was involved in things other than schoolwork and ballet. She adjusted the strap of her purse on her shoulder, eyes at half mast as she crossed the walkway during a break in the parade, at one of the designated 'crossing paths' of course. Might as well get something to snack on while she walked around (or at least something more substantial than spun sugar that dissolved when you placed it on your tongue).
She stopped by a stand selling elephant ears (one of her favorite carnival foods). The combination of fried dough, cinnamon, and sugar was just right, and she could make one last quite a while. That way, she wouldn't feel like she was pigging out on something so incredibly unhealthy. She had to remain petite, after all, for her ballet recital this weekend. Huge amounts of carbohydrates were out of the question (unless they couldn't be avoided, of course). "Good luck with that," she muttered to herself, chuckling softly.
She glanced at all the food stalls, at all the different things they were selling, and smiled. It was kind of refreshing to see the whole town in one place like this, having fun. If only she was more of a crowd person. She wandered for a little while more before taking her place at the cotton candy stand, securing her hair with a large clip behind her head. She smoothed her hands over her floral chiffon dress, making sure the leather belt around her waist was centered. She pasted on her friendliest smile (but not an overbearing one), and waited patiently for customers. This was going to be a long night.

Flora felt guilty for bringing it up, fights between friends made her feel bad and brought up bitter memories and no, she really didn't want to think about that today, thank you very much!! Grabbing at the napkins a little too fast and wiping at her shirt a little too viciously to distract herself, she felt a bubbling frustration in the pit of her stomach as the powdered sugar just left white streaks. If she cried over funnel cake in front of a stranger, how embarrassing would that be? Instead, she blushed a deep red and turned to the people running the stall nearby. One of them was serving a customer, but the other was just sort of standing there, and she asked, "Excuse me, may I please buy a bottle of water?" She just wanted to solve this little problem, and she felt like if she couldn't do it right here, right now, it was going to turn into a stumbling block that was going to ruin her whole day.
She realized with a stifled yelp that in her hurry to forget bad memories, she had been appallingly rude to the girl who had given her the napkins, and swiveling back to her, she squeaked, "Th-thank you, by the way! I'm sorry for being a bother, I-" Cutting herself off, she stared at the ground, clenching her hands into fists that were still pressed tightly against her messy shirt front. "Today just isn't my day," she finished lamely. She had tried her best to make it her day, but it had not gone well. It was hard to keep up with people who didn't live in picture frames, and she thought longingly of the UMA, which did not allow funnel cakes and was full of friends that she could rely on to stay put and pay attention to her because she was the only person that could hear them. "I, uh, I hope your brother is okay! I don't like fighting with my friends much..."
It sounded really stupid aloud. "Not that anyone does! But you know, um," Something inside Flora was flailing quietly in a circle, so she ended with "Yeah," and left it at that. Oh, if only she could clean up her shirt! She felt so stupid.

(( Meilei - Sidewalk with Lucette and Priya ))
The gaudy ganguro took a sharp inhale of breath when the cold dairy treat mashed her clear in the chest. Her expression turned from anger to horror in a split second and she stood there with her arms up, fingers curled like claws, staring down at the mess that was now her shirt.
For Meilei, time stopped and she was as frozen as the ice cream as Shasta stormed off. Lucette's voice barely registered in her ears, even as she approached closer it was like she was still standing aways off and Meilei had suddenly become deaf. Her body shivered, trembling from the shock -- and the steadily building rage. Tissues were offered and ignored. Someone else's voice of concern was directed at her, but all Meilei saw was the melting ice cream clinging and dribbling down her beautiful top and all she heard was the sound of that girl's heels against the sidewalk, taunting her.
A loud shriek ripped through the air just as the firework went off, masking most of its ear piercing volume. Meilei's movements were swift and deliberate as she pushed away from Lucette and Priya and made a feeble attempt to follow Shasta, only to stop and begin shouting after her despite her being far out of earshot. "NO, MEILEI PUNCH YOUR FACE NEXT!" Her dark fingers wrapped around the cone and peeled it from her chest, but most of the ice cream clung and settled against the fabric of her shirt. With a loud grunt, she threw the cone against the sidewalk, shattering it, before turning on her heel and storming back towards the only two girls -- the only two people that seemed to give a damn. "Stupid dumb cow," she hissed under her breath along with a slew of Taiwanese curses, eyes slightly glossed with the threat of tears. She swallowed hard and pushed them back. If she were to cry now, she'd never forgive herself; especially not after all the work she put into her make up today.
Cozying back up towards Lucette, Meilei glanced apologetically to her before taking some of the tissues. "Thank," she mumbled before grabbing large clumps of the steadily melting dessert with them. It was then she finally took full notice of Priya and gave her a scrutinizing once-over as she wiped, white-colored lips set into a distinct pout. "Like your hair..."

(( Lucette: Sidewalk, with Meilei and Priya ))
Lucette's look was one of utter distaste of the whole situation, and looked over at the new girl and sighed, "Do you think she's alright?" she asked the new girl, "Her clothes are ruined, would you be alright after that?" she still kept the tissues in her hand as Meilei ignored her, knowing that she would eventually come back for them. She glanced over at Priya, noting her interesting hairstyle. It was sharp and daring, she liked it she had to admit. "You also have unique hair. It's nice." she offhandedly mentioned, "Your dress is cute too. Though I do not think it goes with your hair well. Perhaps a darker dress?"
"This is an utter mess...", she muttered to herself, she would probably try and seek out the other girl later, and probably go make her apologize to Mismatched Socks; it was only fair. One should never ruin another's outfit when getting into a fight. It was a golden rule.
Lucette took out one of the tissues, trying to help Meilei get some of it off, ice cream was such a disaster to clothing. "It is okay. You do not need to thank me." Goodness, this girl couldn't walk around like this with this gigantic stain on her clothing, but where would they get a new shirt? Or something to cover it up in?
"If you would like, I can go find the girl later and talk to her., Lucette offered, though the girl would probably want to seek her out herself. It was odd that she would just flee like that after throwing the ice cream at Meilei. "Oh. My name is Lucette." she said, primly smiling at the two girls. In all this drama, Lucette had completely forgot to introduce herself. How rude of her!

(( ??? - with sophie & meridith // nearby the school buses ))
It was a bit soothing, the way that Chloe could talk to her so easily, though her mind drifted rather easily towards were Meridith and Sophie were. She felt a tinge of embarrassment at actually believing that the little blonde girl was a princess, so she timidly brushed her hair in front of her eyes and did her best to look away.
"Whats your name, hun? If you want, you can stay with us until you spot your friend. It'll be a lot safer traveling in a group instead of by yourself."
"O-oh..." she backed away once Meridith came forth, bowing gingerly at her and risking but a minute glance either way, "I-i wouldn't really want to bother you, though, it looks like you three have... plants-- ah, I mean, pl-plans-- um..."
"Prince Meridith and Princess Sophie, at your service. Hello, Queen Chloe. I've been told there is a quest to be had? One to help this beautiful Enchantress? Princess Sophie and I are at your behest."
Whereupon Sophie made her return with her taller company, the girl paused awkwardly between senteces to listen quietly to the lavender-haired girl as she spoke, nervously taking a step backward all the while. She brushed her hair back to try and make herself look somewhat formidable-- it was a bit embarrassing to let her etiquette go like this, but this was how it usually went for her when she was feeling particularly tired. It felt like she'd waited for that Allison of hers so long, yet it seemed that the school buses had only started to arrive... maybe she was being impatient?
A touch of bitterness overcame her, though, and she stared at the ground in brief thought whilst measuring her options. She patted down the corner of her skirt's pockets to see if she'd brought her keys-- check, cellphone-- also check, then swayed towards the Big Belle.
She turned around towards the group and was a bit surprised that they were still there, but she let out a small sigh of relief nonetheless that they hadn't left quite yet. She stepped towards Chloe again and squeezed her hands tightly together.
"A-actually... u-um, if... if-- Princess Sophie and her friend-- P-prince Meridith-- and you don't mind... I-- would enjoy the company..." she smiled, furrowing her brows, "M-my name is Lorina, um, I forgot to answer that earlier, I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself before..."
(( gloria & hanna - with flora & olivia // cafe di magia food stand ))
"Excuse me, may I please buy a bottle of water?"
Hanna was ticking idly away at her cellphone, wholly unaware that Flora was addressing her in particular. It was unfortunate enough for Gloria as she side-eyed Hanna and grew flustered while trying her hardest to tend wholly to her current customer, but they were already checking out and she was fumbling with the change.
"H-hanna, would you please help this young lady with her order?"
The purple-eyed brunette finished ticking in the last few lines of her text and glanced up at Gloria with those wide eyes and open mouth of hers, to which she uttered a quick, "What?"
Gloria clicked their cash box shut and settled it back down in a smaller stool underneath the booth table. She glanced back at her previous customer and said a quick thanks before turning back to Hanna to give her a stern, tightly browed frown, "Could you please get a bottle of water from out the icebox, dear? It's underneath the coffee machine."
Unbeknownst to Gloria, who turned back around to Flora and the rest of her customers, Hanna shot her a strange look that was a mixture of ill regard and confusion. She'd only meant to visit briefly, and about important otherworldly business, nor was she a volunteer at the food stalls. She sucked in her breath and tossed her Soul Gem back and forth in her hands, without so much as thinking about it, and turned around to reach into the ice box.
"Just one bottle?"
"Please and thank you," Gloria replied, taking the bottle from Hanna's hands to give it to her rather distressed looking and small customer.
"That'll be one dollar. Would you like anything else, miss?" Gloria waited patiently as the blonde turned around to talk to her other company, giving them a small smile meanwhile. As Flora spoke to her acquaintances, however, she noticed another blonde walking through the food stalls, whose presence in and of itself allowed the brunette to sigh in relief.
She tilted her head to the side and waved briefly to Olivia, clutching her cheek with her other hand in worry-- she certainly hoped Olivia had noticed their booth, though she figured the Cafe's decorations were vibrant enough, with its pastel pinks and soft oranges. Her attention returned briefly to Hanna, who was again idly typing away at her cellphone and, more surprisingly, catching her Soul Gem as if it were some baseball.
"Hanna, stop throwing that this instant!"

((Lalita - Food Stalls, with Kamala and Tilly))
As Tilly made her offer, it was Lalita's turn to blush. She wanted confirmation of a job well done, or well enough done, at least. She hadn't been looking for a reward, and now she couldn't be sure if she was being offered one because she deserved it, or because she'd somehow hinted at wanting one. If she accepted, she would feel like a fraud, being paid for unfinished work. If she didn't, it was possible she would hurt this girl's feelings. "I'm not sure... I mean, I didn't mean to... I don't know..."
Dealing with people was much harder than dealing with crowds.
Kamala, however, had no such worries. "Funnel cake, yes please! With extra sugar, and, um... is there anything else you put on funnel cakes?" She tugged on Lalita's hand excitedly, wanting to order their treat already.
"I, um..." Kamala had accepted for her, but Lalita felt awkward. Was there a way to accept and decline at the same time, so that all of her bases were covered? "Maybe we could all share one," she suggested, "or Kamala and I could, at least, I think." It wasn't the answer she was looking for, but it was the best she could do. Lalita agonized over her decision, barely remembering to add "and thank you. For offering, and, um, hey, I think there's a funnel cake place over there!"

(( Kalina Denisova - Sidewalk, near the Food and Craft stands, with her sister, Jin Ae Lee, Zoe Whiteflower & her brother ))
Kalina smiled as her friend Zoe did come into view, towing along her own brother, relieved to see another familiar face in the crowd. Her sister Sofiya waved weakly from beside Kalina at the two newcomers, and Kalina watched as Zoe signed to her brother. As Zoe's younger brother asked about the notebook, Kalina turned it over, looking at words on the page again.
"It dropped out in front of us from the crowd. I thought it might be yours," she explained, holding the book out toward Zoe. "Is it?"
Sofiya slipped from her sister's hand to walk toward Jin's side, grasping Jin's hand gingerly to peer at Alto and Zoe. She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose with her free hand idly. "How come she's doing that with her hands?" she asked, wide-eyed and curious.

"Oh, hi Zoe..." Jin Ae said, not wanting to lift her hand to wave to her friend in case... well, in case she needed it for something. "Uhhh..." she said, trailing off, unable to really think of anything polite to say. Luckily Kalina was a good talker and she didn't really need to say anything. She smiled absently. A hand brushed against Jin Ae's and she startled faintly, blushing. Was Kalina touching her hand again? Twice, in one day! She took the hand, before hearing Kalina's sister speak. "How come she's doing that with her hands?" Jin Ae realized it was Sofiya who had grabbed and she mentally cursed herself again for being so stupid. She was unsure now, if the child was adressing her, or Kalina, or Zoe... "Uhhh...." she mumbled, embarrassed.

[[Tilly - food stalls with Lalita + sibling]]
The blonde smiled to Kamala as she seemed to pipe up with desires of funnel cake. "If I remember correctly, you can get funnel cake with powder sugar, whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate sauce, and even strawberries. I personally like the ones with strawberries, but only before they get super soggy from the strawberry juices."
Lalita's hesitance was noted though as she tried to make things a bit less expensive for Tilly. Without any sort of prompting, the girl reached to touch the edges of her dress and curtsied slightly. "I assure you that it is no burden for me to purchase multiple funnel cakes. I probably can eat one by myself pretty easily. Unless you both have similar tastes in your sweets and would prefer to share, I wouldn't mind purchasing one for each of you." Since the elder sister had pointed out the stand, Tilly trotted over (making certain the duo continued along with her). Once in place, she mentioned "Please feel free to make your orders and I will trail at the end to finish up and pay up for the transaction."
With the politeness of some sort of cafe maid, she gestured to the funnel cake stand and the attendant hiding in the stand.

(( Olivia: Approaching the Cafe de Magica Food Stall ))
Olivia made her way through the line of stands, eyes casually wandering across each banner and sign as she passed them. She had never asked Gloria where exactly the Cafe De Magica Stall would be, and stopped in her tracks as she pushed a loose lock of her hair behind her ear in thought. She could always ask someone, that seemed the fastest way to find out, and since there were so many people blocking the full view of each booth it seemed the easiest as well. Placing her hands on her hips she allowed her rosy gaze to sweep over the crowd around her once more in an attempt to select a stranger to question, but just as her eyes reached the edge of her vision she noticed a hand waving just past a small group of people. "Oh," the Louis girl gasped, quickly pulling an about-face to see who had motioned in her direction, and in fact she should recognize the brunette as the people obscuring her view walked past. She had nearly missed it, bright colours and all. Olivia smiled over to her friend in return, giving a small wave before hurriedly approaching the table. "Wow I feel stupid," she chuckled, obviously embarrassed, as she neared the amber-eyed girl," I pretty much walked right by you. Sorry about that!" She then, noticing the other person behind the counter, raised her brows in curiosity.
" So do you...uh.. guys, 'guys' being plural," Olivia lifted a finger to zig-zag between pointing to Gloria then Hanna back and forth," ...need any help? Not going to lie, I'm surprised you're here, DeWitt. You never seemed like the customer service type." The blonde gave a smirk, quite obviously just poking fun.
It was then that she realized she was interrupting an interaction with a customer, the small girl beside her whom she never really stole a glance at. " Oh, wow, I'm sorry! Don't let me get in your--," as Olivia turned her attention to the child beside her, she paused again in surprise. Another familiar face. " Flora! Well, I am embarrassing myself all over the place today," she laughed, bopping herself on the forehead as she knit her brows," Sorry I missed you, kiddo--- You doin' alright there...?" It was only once the teen had gotten a good look at the girl that she'd realized she was blatantly distressed, the streaks of sugar on her shirt and the napkins clutched in her hand probably explaining why.

[ zoë whiteflower ] - on the sidewalk, near to the food and craft stands, with her little brother, Jin Ae Lee and Kalina Denisova and her sister.
Zoe nodded at Kalina and smiled at Jin Ae, quietly taking the notepad and flipping through its pages. Recognizing her own handwriting and the random scribbles she made on the bus ride there, she took out her pen and scribbled a few words of gratitude to the girl. It's been a while since we've last seen each other. How have you been? It was summer, after all, and Zoe didn't make friends that were concrete enough to talk to them everyday. Besides, she had work to worry about.
Before she could hand it to them, however, Alto's hand grasped his elder sisters, squeezing it tenderly and tugging on her arm, motioning for her to bend down. "I'm hungry," he whispered in her ear, making her purse her lips. Her hands made two fists in front of her, going up and down twice. She pointed at him and gestured at him as if asking him to give her something, her fingers shaking up and down like jazz hands. Could you wait until I finish talking to them? She motioned at him and he rolled his eyes, again, nodding.
Alto looked at the girl with a blank look.
"Are you stupid?" Alto asked the girl roughly, frowning at her. Zoe froze. "She can't speak. Her voice broke or somethin'." He said bluntly, and Zoe's face changed immediately in to many different expressions— from friendly and happy to confused, then to anger and finally irritation. Her fingers immediately went to work: both of her hands moved at him as if clicking two castanets together, then rapidly swung into the the basic alphabet of the word 'the'. Lastly, she pointed down at the ground and made a motion as if asking, 'why?' What the hell? Why did you say that? That was uncalled for! Frustratingly, he replied as well, but this time, with his own hands. She's stupid! It's obvious you can't speak! Shut up! Now I won't get you ice cream! His face fell. She pointed at the girl and did the same motion she had before— a hand on her chest, rubbed in a circle motion. Apologize.
His eyes darted toward Sofiya and then to the floor as he grumbled a word of apology in a way that could convince anyone that he was forced to do it. She puffed her cheeks, then looked to the girls. Scribbling in her notebook, she wrote a few words of apology in it to them— I'm sorry my little brother insulted your sister like that. It was rude of him. She patted her little brothers head softly, a shy look on her face. Please forgive him. She wrote, and handed the book to her friends. She really hoped one mishap wouldn't ruin their relationship. Alto wasn't a bad kid, he was just too blunt for his own good and pretty rude when he wanted to be. Too dependent on her though, always asking for her opinion. But she didn't mind.
He was her little brother, after all.

((Lalita - Food Stalls, with Kamala and Tilly))
Kamala's mouth watered as Tilly listed all of the avaliable toppings. "Oh man, those all sound super yummy! I want, um, chocolate and ice cream! No, ice cream and strawberries! Oh, and whipped cream." She frowned, considering the possible combinations, then her eyes lit up. There was one way to get everything she wanted. "Can I have one with all of the toppings? Pretty please with sugar on top? And ice cream and chocolate and-"
"Kamala, stop it!" Lalita was horrified. She had tried so hard to make the best of an uncomfortable situation, and her sister was ruining it. Not that Tilly seemed to mind much- if she had as much money as she implied, buying a funnel cake with all the fixings for a total stranger wouldn't be a problem- but Lalita minded. She already felt like she had screwed up their conversation, and Kamala's lack of social graces just added to her anxiety. Granted, no one expected perfect manners from a seven-year-old, but that didn't stop her from feeling totally embarrassed.
Or was it because Kamala was so much more at ease with the situation that she was feeling threatened? It was bad enough that Lalita had trouble with social situations, but seeing her sister talk and laugh and accept gifts from someone they didn't even know made her feel like even more of a failure. How was it that, as the older one with five years more experience, she was the novice here? How was she expected to endure it?
"I said pretty please," Kamala said sulkily. She recognized the signs of Lalita going into one of her moods, but the temptation of funnel cake with all the fixings outweighed her inclination to keep quiet. "She said she would get us each one, with whatever we want, so why can't I get what I want? You're not Mommy, so you can't tell me what to do!" Her voice raised with each word until she was shouting, and she folded her arms at the end, the very picture of stubbornness.
Lalita was having none of it. "If you don't know enough about being polite to show some... some restraint, when someone's being nice to you, then you shouldn't get a treat. And Mom left Mohana in charge, and she left me in charge, so I can too tell you what to do!" Suddenly, a lightbulb went off inside her head. The situation had gotten very ugly indeed, but Kamala had thoughtfully (or thoughtlessly) provided her with an exit strategy. "But if you need Mommy to tell you what to do, fine! Maybe you should go sit with her for a while!"
Kamala screamed louder as Lalita pulled her by the wrists, her cries swallowed up by the excitement of the crowd. "Sorry about this. It was, uh, nice meeting you. See you around, maybe?" Lalita said her goodbyes quickly and left without waiting for an answer, dragging Kamala behind her.
Before they got to their mother, Lalita would buy Kamala a funnel cake (with one topping) herself. Partly to make her quiet down, but mostly as thanks for giving her an excuse to leave. She still had a lot to learn about this "fun" thing.
