Nolan hesitated for a moment, something obviously on his mind. Instead of replying, he just nodded and shifted his weight from one leg to the other, uncomfortable. Back-talk wasn't something allowed in his father's house, and he didn't see the point in correcting Hayley anyway. He was going to use his Hippo pokemon even if she thought it was a bad idea. Hippopotas hadn't learned any ground based attacks yet, barring Sand-Attack. Yet that move hit flying pokemon anyway. Don't ask him why, it made sense anyway. "Thank you for the vote of confidence, ma'am, and the advice about Gyarados. I-I think I should be fine. My Shinx knows how to use electric attacks, and if the worst happens, I have five other pokemon." Although, thinking about Dosu's evolution again, it made Nolan all the more anxious to prepare for his upcoming challenge. He still needed to scout the opposition, and see if the Hippopotas he caught was any good at battling at all. Besides, he had some extra incentive piled on to get his badge with Des's offer. "Err, excuse me, but are there anymore questions you wanted to ask me for the survey, or I may I go?" "Actually, concerning the Hippopotas... as long as he doesn't use Ground-type moves he'll be fine. It'll be too late for the gym battle, but the hippo can be taught Rock-type moves like Rock Tomb and Rock Slide, and the evolved form can be retaught elemental fangs like Ice Fang or Thunder Fang if you take them to a Move Tutor." Des mused before he raised a hand to start counting off. "Ground-type moves for Ammoa and Brattio, Ice Fang if you can learn it for Addobe and Genesia, Fire Fang for Mosnia, Thunder Fang for Zidoa... you're practically covered for the entire League with just that Pokemon and the right moves." He lowered his hand back down to his side. "In my opinion, he has a well-rounded team for the gyms. He can go pretty far if he wanted to. It's all up to him and his Pokemon." 4

Regina nodded, tilting her head at Nolan. Clearly, he was leaving out something he wanted to say. If he didn't want to say it, though, she wouldn't force it out of him. Probably. Though, if Des wanted to mentor the kid, she probably shouldn't torture him, that may not go down well with him. Hmm . . . maybe she could just do a little torture? It wasn't like Des would look for marks on his body, right? Perhaps electrodes? Those were always fun to mess around with. Or she could go old-fashioned and use a knife. She gave a vague smile, thinking of the possibilities. Nolan's question rocked her back to reality. "Oh, right, sorry."
She glanced down at her clipboard again, pen trailing down the paper again. "Just one more: do you think you have it in you to complete the Etrua Circuit?" While he was pondering that, she turned back to Des, shrugging. "Fair enough, Lukas. The thing is that it's just one Pokemon, and as soon as it's knocked out, the single move it had becomes useless. In my opinion, you don't always need type advantages to win - just strategy."

For a second there, that vague look the surveyor got almost pinged on Nolan's radar as weird. However, he was soon distracted. Watching the exchange between the two, Nolan was surprised that the Ranger's thoughts somewhat coincided with his own. Just that Nolan's were not as knowledgeable, nor specific about Hippopotas' potential moves, and he hadn't even considered the gyms beyond Blyse yet. 'One step at a time,' he reminded himself. Nolan especially didn't expect any kind of praise, and he hid his expression by stooping down to pick up his Snivy. His pokemon appreciated the gesture, feeling more as though she was in the conversation now that she was closer to eye-level. He waited while Hayley spoke, but it did give him extra time to consider his answer to the last survey question. Even though it wasn't particularly difficult. "I think I will finish getting all the badges. I haven't planned to do anything else, or going home early. I might skip on challenging the Elite Four, but I wouldn't have started. I want at least a serious shot at earning all eight badges. Err ... well, other than the time I first ran across ... um, Lukas, I have been taking things too lightly. So I'm kind of on the wall again about that, since the routes around Blyse have been challenging already. But I can't make a real decision about where I'll be in, like, a month or two. It's too soon to say that I can't make it." Snivy glanced up while Nolan thought out loud, the human working out and connecting those thoughts floating around in his head. She hadn't heard him voice these feelings either, and it wasn't very helpful nor harmful to hear her trainer admit that he neither had confidence, nor a real sense of being failure. Snivy sighed. The Grass Snake would have to do something about that soon, but she didn't mind training her trainer. Snivy knew she was going to go far if she had anything to say about it. Oh, so the girl was doing surveys on beginner trainers? That sounded nice to her! She knew that this was something that would be helpful since there were plenty of people here. She could even meet a few new faces and find someone else to travel with. Though before she said anything, this Hayley girl got distracted by other stuff and Alyss ended up pulling another spacing out moment.
When she recovered she looked around till she noticed Hayley again and wandered on over to her side. "Er sorry about spacing out. I seem to have a bad habit about that. But if you don't mind could I also take one of those surveys? I'd love to help out somehow."

(( I'm going to hop threads temporarily. Just so I don't spam you all in here while I snag a couple more levels. Also, Chuu is poking me again, lulz. )) Nolan glanced over as another trainer, Alyss, came up to answer the survey questions too. Seeing this as a good as any excuse to get back to training, he managed a polite smile, and bowed a little to Hayley. "Thank you very much, I enjoyed being a part of your survey, but I really should get back to preparing for my gym match. Since I'll just end up humiliating myself, I better just get it over with." He had meant that as a tongue-in-cheek comment, yet there still was that small grain of self-doubt that made it all too real of a fear. Nolan winced, wishing he hadn't said that at all. They really wouldn't make the first gym that insanely difficult, would they? Edging away, Nolan didn't forget to use all the manners his parents had instilled in him. "And thank you again, Lukas. I'll ... yeah, we'll see how it goes, bye." Snivy wasn't happy at all, but finally Nolan got going again, heading towards the gym first of all. To the tell the truth, Snivy was quite curious about the gym too, although, disappointed because she wouldn't be participating in their first gym battle. "To each their own, Hayley. Some Trainers use a single powerful Pokemon to sweep the opponent, while others balance out their teams to cover their own weaknesses. There's no denying strategy is key to victory though." said Des casually with a half-hearted shrug. It seemed like Nolan had finished the survey. Hopefully that would give Regina the data she needed. As another Trainer came up to take the survey, the boy started to back away, saying he was going to go take on the gym now. Jeez, he really was in a rush to get that badge so he could start getting mentored, huh? "Good luck in the battle." said Des, waving Nolan off. He then turned to look at Regina, who was now taking care of Alyss. "I'm going to head out too and check out the overall extent of the damage on Route 1. Good luck with the rest of the surveys, and hopefully the data will be of some use to whatever you're researching." he said with a nod. And with a turn of his heel, Desiderio walked off to go commit other unspeakable crimes. Like murder. But maybe after a couple more levels. Because an admin should totally be more formidable, especially if there were late-game Gym Leaders and Elite Four members wandering around this low-level area. 5

(Bleh, I need to post more often and better...) Vayne sighed as he couldn't find really anything for his team but the poke-food sold in mart. Like he would even try to make them eat that... He sighed again as his team followed behind him. Pidgey looked tired of the town and once again broke off from her team and headed for the route once again, maybe for food, berries, fruit, prey... Vayne watched as she flew away, Ledyba also seemed to watch her friend go away and decided to follow. As Vayne, Cyndaquil, and Ralts watched as the two flew away towards the route, they all had the same idea. Just find some, Surely fruit had to be growing in the forest off the beaten path. Vayne felt as cyndaquil climbed his shoulder again and the ralts outstretched her arms asking to be carried as well, which Vayne did. Alex sat on the bench watching people for a while. After a minute or two he forgot what it was that he was waiting for. He looked around thinking that it was something rather important. He wanted to go look at the gym but there was something else there. He couldn't remember. Hopping down from the bench ALex wistled and Jenkins and Stripes came over as they were the only ones far away enough to not notice that he was moving.
When he got to the gym he didn't go in and just pressed his face against the glass to look inside. He saw a water started that he didn't pick whose name he couldn't remember fighting what looked like a Zubat without legs whose body was covered in white fuzz. He tired pointing the pokedex at it but it didn't seem to want to work through the glass. Looking back at the fight the bat went down and was replaced with a big Pidgey. It was the first time that it evolved, as it wasn't big enough to ride on, but it didn't look exactly like a Pidgey. Alex couldn't remember the name for it, but it was what Alex came to see. The gym was a flying type.
As he got back to the square he looked around. There were other people with pokemon out, but it didn't seem like anyone else had more then two or possibly three of them out instead of almost their entire team. Alex shrugged and sat back down on the bench thinking about if he should go to the gym or train a little more.

Regina nodded, scribbling down the last of Nolan's information. So, he was not too keen on the Elite Four, but would do the Gyms . . . surprisingly, a lot of people did that nowadays, and she didn't blame them - they were a bunch of cocky bastards who made people go through Victory Road just to battle them because they were too lazy to get off their asses and go and see the trainers. Ugh. But Nolan was talking to her again, and made herself focus. "Of course, of course. I bid you good luck, Nolan - your Pokemon should be fine." 'But you may not be.' She didn't finish her sentence out loud, simply smiling at him and waving him farewell.
She turned her attention to the girl who had come up, and offered her a smile, too, with Felicia rearing her head to examine her. "Sure, don't worry about it." She ripped Nolan's sheet off and put it at the back of the clipboard, straightening out the new sheet. "Now, what's your name and how old are you?" She glanced back up at Des when he spoke to her again, almost forgetting her own alias for a moment. She nodded. She would see him later, she needed to continue with her job - her other job, that is.

Aw, others were leaving. Oh well, she could at least stay here to be with someone around here. Besides she had that survey to fill out! "My name's Alyss, and I'm 15 years old." She said, smiling since she wasn't about to space out now.

From: Gabron Ruins~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was dark now that Des made it back to Blyse City. He was whistling as he strolled with his hands in his pockets, the Manetric following by his side. He wondered if Regina was still conducting surveys by the fountain, so he ambled on over there to take a look. He was in a good mood after find an Old Amber, so maybe he'd take his fellow troublemaker out for a drink? Since his ties with Team Celestia weren't discovered yet, maybe he could still head over to the fossil resurrection site in town to acquire the Aerodactyl. It was worth doing that soon while he was still in town, after all. 15

Regina smiled at the girl, Felicia tilting her head at her again, before sinking back into the water, freaking out a little Squirtle that had just climbed in. "Alright, great." She felt something sharp in her back, and turned to see that the Dragonair had poked her, indicating that Des was approaching again. Good. "So, Alyss, what level is your highest Pokemon? And have you challenged the Gym yet?" From this distance, she could see that he looked rather pleased with himself - how odd. She wondered idly what he'd been up to? Scaring a few new trainers? Probably.

Oh, Regina was still around. Excellent. He walked up to her. "Still doing surveys, Hayley? When you're done, come with me. I found something good in the Ruins, so I figured it's worth celebrating with a drink." he said cheerfully. "You've been working hard too, so it wouldn't hurt to take a break." Blue the Manetric wagged his tail as he looked up at Felicia, barking. Good boy, best friend. Find lots of rare goodies for Desiderio. 16

Regina nodded at Des, grinning. That would be fun, and she'd like to know what treasure he uncovered in the Ruins. "Sure, sounds good." She glanced in surprise at the Manectric barking at Felicia. The Dragonair, intrigued, pulled her head out of the water and stuck it in front of the Electric type, inspecting it. "Easy, girl," she cautioned, patting her neck . . . or body, she didn't really know. She didn't want the Manectric to bite her Pokemon - not only would that piss off the Dragonair, but it would start up an undesirable fight.
