Terribly beaten today...I got away, but I think my fear got the best of me, I couldn't even fight...I just ran. I feel so ashamed of myself for letting it best me like that. I'll try again another day.

I'm really failing myself...I keep getting overly fearful of the consequences...maybe I just need to give up on dragon battling altogether. I don't know if I'll ever be able to fend off a Firani dragon...who knows...maybe next time I will have the courage to fight and stick around until the end.

Another failed attempt. I'm really needing some more practice before I go up against any more dragons. Maybe one day I'll be able to spar again with Samril, he was a good sparring partner...I need it if I am going to get any stronger to be able to finally beat a Firani.

» taking a trip together

It had been a while since she had last seen the boy of her dreams. The two had talked about meeting again and finally, it was going to happen. She was to pack her things and leave for Serenia in the early morning. There, at Naomi's house, she would find him awaiting her and the two could have the day together. Actually, they were to have a few days together. The thought of them being together brightened Kavanna's day so much. It was late, and she wanted to get as early a start as she could the next morning. She packed her things as she had planned and headed to bed.

The next day, before dawn, the Dovaa was awake and running about her dorm room gathering last minute items before heading to Serenia to meet with Alex. Her trek was a long one to the Academy and then through the portal to Serenia's docks. It was only a five minute walk from the docks to the cottage in which she was meeting her love.

Finally, she arrived, patting on the door gently, a friendly face answered. "Oh, there you are! How have you been, dear Kavanna?!" the tall Orderite exclaimed as she pulled the Dovaa in for a loving embrace. Alora had always been the kind sister-like influence in Kav's life. Kav personally had no idea how to deal with other girls, mostly because she had grown up in a house full of boys her whole life, her tomboyish nature stemmed from her brother's constant enthusiasm for adventure. But this girl made her feel very good about being who she was, a very good sister indeed. Who said one had to be blood to be a member of family?

Alora ushered the Dovaa in and sat her down. "Well don't you look beautiful! What is the plan for today?" she asked.

"Hehe, thank you. Honestly, I'm not even sure. We didn't plan anything specific, but I'm guessing Alex has it all planned out." she said with a smile and a little blush.

"I'm sure of it. I think Alex will surprise you. You two have been friends for a while now, at least a year. You two haven't even been dating officially, have you?" the Orderite's curiosity growing with every word.

"No, he hasn't officially asked me out. Though we have had a few kisses and a few lovely days of spending time together." she said with a smile.

"I'm quite surprised to hear you haven't officially started dating. Hmm...he's probably waiting for the perfect time. I'm sure of it. I'll let him know you're here." the Orderite stated before leaving the room in a hurry. Scurrying upstairs to alert her brother of his lover's arrival.

Kavanna sat silently in the chair assigned to her, looking about the kitchen, waiting for her love to arrive. She heard the footsteps from upstairs as they seemed to move about the floor. The creaking of the cottage showed it's age.

Finally, pattering steps could be heard coming down the stairs. Kav's heart began to flutter for a moment, hoping that it was Alex. She took a peek passed the doorway that led to the living room and hoped that she would see Alex's alabaster skin and light strawberry-blond hair and beautiful sea blue eyes walk through the doorway.

The stepping concluded and she expected to see him coming around the corner, however, it wasn't he, but Alora once more. "Sorry! He's getting himself ready, but he's almost done. Just a little more time. Would you like a cup of jade dragon tea?" she asked.

"No, thank you. I'm too nervous to drink anything. I wonder what he has up his sleeve." she stated, looked at the ceiling as though to gaze passed it, straight to him.

"Oh, you're going to love his plan. Because, yes, he has a great one." Alora said with a giggle and grin.

That made the Dovaa even more nervous. She was itching to know what it was that he had planned for the two of them. A few moments passed, and Alora had made a cup of the jade dragon tea for herself and was sipping it when the two heard the footsteps of someone coming down the stairs.

Kav stopped breathing as the pattering stopped. Around the corner came the man she had been waiting for. The one of her dreams, Alex. She jumped up for joy and caressed him. "I have missed you so much, Alex! How have you been?" she asked curiously, interested in whatever answer he gave in response.

"I've missed you very much too, my dear. I have been quite well thank you. Practicing each day with my sword, preparing for this day. Are you ready to go?" he asked.

"Go? Why, yes, I guess. What's going on?" she asked.

"You'll see, just follow me." he said with a smile.

With that, the two were waved off by Alora. They headed towards the docks, who knew where they would end up. Kav was a bundle of joy and Alex seemed overjoyed to be with her once again.

» another meeting with ysaride

Kavanna took out all of the dragon orbs she had obtained over the past year of being an Adept. She took a close look into each one. Viewing the many Kiandri Souls, she decided to use five of those to prove her worth to the Dovaa community.

She gathered them into another pouch and stashed the other away under her bed. Gathering the few things she decided to take, she went off on her way towards the academy where she would meet with Marcus and give him the orbs needed to prove that she was ready to become an Expert.

The journey to the academy wasn't too long, but full of many Dovaa heading home from school for the day. The best time to catch Marcus was right after school let out, for most Dovaa didn't want to deal with him after a long day. Luckily, she had taken the day off to rest and specifically for her meeting with him.

Up the tower she walked as she finally reached his door. Knock. Knock. Knock.

"Come in." he called.

Slowly, the door opened and the little Adept smiled as she entered. "Good afternoon Master Ysaride. How are you doing today?" she asked curiously.

"Fine, fine. What can I help you with my dear? I'm a very busy man and as such I have many things to do." he stated.

"Well, I have my orbs for you. I think I'm finally almost ready to graduate." she said.

"Ah yes, good, good. Glad to hear you're working towards graduation, young one. Have you collected the necessary amount of souls?"

"Yes. here's five Kiandri Souls." she said, taking them out of the pouch and giving them to Marcus one by one.

"Oh very nice. You downed that many Kiandri dragons? That's a very difficult feat. But I'm glad to know you were able to do it. I am going to accept these. Keep practicing a little bit longer and when graduation comes around, you will be moved on to an Expert. Congratulations. It's always nice knowing that there are still Dovaa out there trying their hardest to overcome the different dragon's obstacles. Well done, young Kavanna." he said, congratulating her on a job well done.

"Thank you very much, Master Ysaride. I'm glad that I have your permission to graduate when I feel ready." she said with a smile. With that, she walked out the door and headed outside and towards her dorm again.

She thought about how ready she truly was. Maybe another dragon battle would truly prove to herself that she was ready. She didn't feel as ready as she could be. The one thing that was for sure was that she knew that she needed to see her parents before moving on. She hadn't visited her family for quite some time.

The walk home cursed her mind with many different things she had yet to accomplish before graduation. Knowing she was as close as she was, it was a definite take back and realization period for her. So many things had happened this past year. So many regrets but at the same time, so many wonderful things. She now had a boyfriend and her brothers had all grown up and were working on their first year here at the academy. It was really time for reflection on the past year and truly decide what she wanted in life. Maybe she could figure that out by visiting home. It was a possibility anyway.

» finding time for family

Kav had been thinking a lot about her family lately, especially since her incident with the Firani. She realized that she needed to cherish what time she had with them and really show that she loved and appreciated them, at least all of them but her mother of course. Those two would likely never be friendly.

She packed her things as she usually did and left early in the morning towards her parents house. She needed to see them before too long and it was about time for she hadn't seen them in a long time. She hoped that maybe her older brother would stop by too, but it was only a possibility. He did come back much more often than she ever did, mainly because both of their parents actually loved him. Kavanna always felt shunned by her mother, ever since she was little. The two never had a good relationship and they probably wouldn't ever. Kav didn't seem to mind that much whatsoever. She loved the rest of her family and was going for them, not her mother in the slightest.

As she made her way down the dirt path that led to her old abode, she saw her brother's outside once again playing. They were growing up so quickly, she couldn't help but smile when she caught eye of them. The fire and water bursting forth from their hands was crazy. She hadn't seen any display of Firani or Peisio Dovaa before this. She almost felt inadequate.

"Hello you two! Aren't you going to welcome home your one and only sister?" she called with a smile and a wave.

The two boys were in shock and only Karst instantly came running down the path towards his sister. Karak however, just rolled his eyes and slowly drudged inside.

"Kav! It's you! How are you doing? I haven't seen you for ages it seems!" her younger brother belted out as he ran with all his might.

The two came into a loving embrace, now the brothers were catching up in size to her, they were just as tall as she was. Her older brother was always taller, but these two boys sure seemed to hit a growth spurt quickly. Kav wasn't the tallest, she was shorter than all her family members except her pipsqueak of a mother. She cared not about her size, but she didn't necessarily like the fact that the two young brothers that she had grown up over were now standing over her by a couple inches.

"I'm doing well, thank you. How are you doing? And Karak is still angry with me I take it?" she asked.

"I'm doing well, and yes, I believe he is just as stubborn as ever. More has happened since you left...mom and dad...they know about your Orderite friend." Karst said with a frown.

A gasp emitted from the Ysali Dovaa's mouth. "Did Karak tell them!? What did they say?" she asked curiously.

"Yes, he did the moment you left. They were obviously unhappy. Mother took it as another thing to scold you with, so don't expect a warm welcome from her. Father just looked disappointed and hasn't really talked about you since. I know they still love you, father especially. He just doesn't want to see you get hurt and he wants what's best for you." he said with a sigh.

Kav's eyes filled with tears as she heard her brother's words. Oh dear, what had she done. Now that the two were actually dating, what would her parents say? They would be further filled with disappointment. She regret ever saying anything to anyone about Alex, but at the same time, her family needed to know.

Her brother brought her in for another loving embrace. "It'll be alright, Kav. Please don't cry. Lets go talk to Kay, alright?" he suggested.

"Al-alright..." she said, sniffling.

The two went inside slowly, Kav noticed that Karak had stopped in the living room to read one of the books they had in their library collection. Kav didn't say a word, instead, she went straight upstairs to see if Kaylen was there. Karst followed behind slowly, rolling his eyes as he saw his twin brother.

As she knocked on her brother's door, he answered almost instantaneously. "Kav! How've you been!? When did you get here? Wait...what's wrong?" he said, bringing his younger sister in for a hug.

The two just stood in the doorway silently a few moments before he ushered her and their younger brother in. The door slowly closed behind them. Kav and Kaylen sat upon the bed and Karst knelt down before the two of them.

"Did mom and dad ever return from the store? Did they say something? Is that why you're upset? Is that why she's upset?" he said, first asking Kav, then turning his attention to his brother instantly.

"No, they haven't come back. She's upset because of Karak and what he did." Karst said, patting his sister on the shoulder.

"Yeah, I know, he was a real a*****e about the whole thing. He told mom and dad. Ugh, I know you're not going to want to hear this, but I think it'd be best if we left. Lets go to town and just stay there for tonight. I'm going to meet Melanie there if you'd like to come. We're staying in the 'Abode de Dagon' since we decided it'd be best if we moved out alone now that we're a bit older. It's just a suggestion. You're more than welcome to come stay with us if you'd like. I was only here waiting for mom and dad to get back anyway. There were some things we needed to discuss, but that's not important right now. C'mon. Come with me." Kaylen said with a smile, standing and holding out a hand for his sister to take.

Kav sat in silence for a moment. "You'd really do that for me? I don't want to be a bother." she said, a smile beginning to bud upon her face.

"Of course I would. Melanie loves you. She would be so happy if you were there. Don't ever think you're a bother." Kaylen said, taking Kav's hand for her before she had a chance to accept.

"Kay's right, Kav. Just go. I'll be over there later, if that's alright with you Kay?" Karst said with a smile.

"Of course it is!" Kay said with a laugh, grabbing his brother and bringing him in for a hug.

"Great. I'll see you two later than. Please feel better Kav. Everything will be okay." Karst replied with a smile, leaving the room.

Kavanna sat with a slight smile on her face the whole time. "Alright...lets go." she said.

"Good." Kaylen said with a grin.

The two got up and scurried down the stairs, only to overhear Karak and Karst talking together before leaving the house.

"Well good, you can go be with them then. I don't care. I can't believe her though...I don't want her to get hurt or banished. She's making idiotic moves by being with an Orderite."

"Karak, that's her decision though. If she wants to be with an Orderite, we can't do anything about it. We just have to let her live her life."

"She can go ahead and live it! I don't give a ********! Gods, get off my case, bro! All I know is that I don't want to see my sister go through hell because of one stupid decision to be with an Orderite."

"Who ever even said they were together!? They were just friends and she liked him. Who knows if it even amounted to anything?"

"Hopefully it didn't for her sake. She's going to get hurt or worse, banished, and it'll be all her fault with no one to blame but herself. I've done my part in warning her about the consequences.

"You're acting like an a*****e is what you're doing! You've done your part, please! She cares about us and all you're doing is giving her the cold shoulder. For a Firani Dovaa, you sure did inherit their hot headed behavior. I think you should apologize."

"Stop telling me what to do. Go ahead and go out there with them. I'm not stopping you! But only because you're my brother and I love and care about you. Just please don't get too wrapped up in things with her and the Orderites. I don't want to see you getting hurt too."

"I promise I won't. Thank you. Now try to cool off before I come back please?"

"Yeah, yeah. Go."

"Thanks."

With that, Karst met up with Kav and Kay before heading into town.

~~~~~~~~~~
"Thank you so much for everything. You guys don't realize how much I appreciate you letting me stay. It means the world to me." Kavanna stated with a smile.
"Oh, Kav, please...there is no need to thank us whatsoever. I missed having you around. Lets go drink some tea and let the boys go to the market for some supplies for dinner, shall we?" Melanie said with her same, sweet, kind voice that she always used. It was so amazing that her brother had found someone so great. She was truly proud.
"Guess that's our queue to leave. C'mon Karst. We'll be back in a little while ladies." he said with a smile, lightly kissing his girlfriend on the forehead and waving to his sister before leaving with his little brother.
"So, how are things with your little Orderite friend? Anything new?" Mel said, sitting down with her and Kav's teacups and pouring some tea in each.
"Actually...yes...we're dating now. For about a week, officially anyway. Have my parents said anything about me to you?"
"Oh! That's some new information! Well, congratulations. I'm happy to see that you're happy! And to answer your question, no, I hardly see your parents and even when I do, your name isn't even mentioned."
"Thanks...but how can I be happy knowing my family hates me?" a sigh escaping Kav's mouth as she asked. She sipped her tea and sat there in silence, waiting for Mel's response.
A few moments passed and Mel just looked as though she was baffled. "They don't hate you, Kav. They just want what's best for you. And he makes you happy, right? You two were meant to be together. If your parents don't accept that, than it would be their loss of a great daughter." she said with a smile, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
Kav felt a sense of love and compassion coming from her sister-in-law. The two were just meant to be? That was a nice thought. Now she knew that she needed to visit him right away and tell him about this and just prove to him that everything is right with the world.
"So, when do we all get to meet him?" Mel asked slyly, her smile now a grin.
Kav's cheeks turned red instantly. "Well...I...uhh...I guess we could go to Serenia and meet with him and his family? They-" she began, but was cut off.
"That sounds like a magnificent idea! We'll go tomorrow!" Mel said with a smile, standing up and taking her teacup to the sink.
Kav's eyes widened instantly. "Haha, well, I don't know if just dropping in on them will be the best idea, but-"
"Oh shh, they'll love that you took the time and effort and are allowing your siblings to see your true love. Oh what a great story to tell your kids. How you two met, it was all because of fate. A forbidden love, but a glorious tale. Oh, I can't wait. I'm going to go pack right now!" Mel said, fleeing the room.
Kav couldn't believe what just happened. Now she had to live with knowing her siblings were going to meet him. She gulped. What was she going to do?
Soon, her brothers returned and Melanie was swift to tell of the plans for the next day. Kay was rather intimidated by going, but Karst was overjoyed to meet an Orderite for the first time. How would her father, mother, and Karak take it if they knew?
Karst instantly left to go and pack his own things and Kay began to whip up dinner with Mel. Kav sat in the same chair through it all, just wondering and worrying about how things were going to turn out.
» a lovers reunion
The next day, Kavanna had gathered some things, feeling very uneasy about what had happened the day before. She had yet to even show herself fully to her family members, wearing her high collared shirt. She knew they wouldn't make too large a deal about the burn scar, but she wasn't ready to show it off. Luckily they were used to seeing her wear similar clothing choices and today was no different. She looked at herself in the bathroom mirror, analyzing the scar, running a hand down the side of her neck and shoulder. The painful memory was still there, very much alive. She had since remembered what happened. She felt the pain every now and again, the burning sensation she felt that only her memory could recreate. She had nightmares now and again of falling to the ground, but never truly touching it. Things just hadn't fully resolved themselves.
Knock. Knock.
"Kav, you almost done in there? We're getting ready to go. Karst and Karak just arrived." Kaylen's voice rang through the door.
Kav jumped at the sound, covering her scar instantly, but suddenly feeling peace at once with herself, realizing the door was locked. "Yes, I'm done. Give me just a moment more, please." she pleaded before popping the collar on her shirt to cover her scar.
She exited the bathroom. Wait. Had Kaylen said Karak was here as well!? What was he doing here? He despised her for going with an Orderite in the first place, now he wanted to come and show his support? As she walked out into the living and dining area, there sat Karst and Karak. Karst instantly gave a smile and friendly nod. Karak rolled his eyes and stood up.
"I'm not going to hide the reason I'm here. I'm only here solely because Karst asked me to be. I'm not doing this to support you in any way...because personally I think you're making a stupid mistake by being with an Orderite. But Karst and I have chatted and if that's what you want, it's what you want and I can't do anything to change that. Just know that mother and father will not be pleased when they find out where we've been all day. Serenia, meeting with Kav's boyfriend -- the Orderite. Pfft, it doesn't even matter to me anymore. You'll do what you please anyway, no matter the consequences. Just remember what I've said." Karak stated before grabbing his pack and starting towards the door.
"Karak, thank you for coming. I really do appreciate you taking the time to do this with me. It does truly mean a lot." Kavanna said, a smile growing on her face. Something inside of her had changed. Normally -- a few months ago -- she would have been extremely pissed by some of the words Karak had used. Instead, she decided to appreciate the fact that he was here instead of fight over some idiotic remarks on his behalf.
That showed true maturity within her, and she felt proud to say that she felt no anger towards him at that point.
As the group left for the portal to Serenia, twins followed as Kav lead the group with Melanie and Kaylen bringing up the rear. The entire walk there, Kav felt more and more uneasy about this meeting. After all, the Naraamas didn't even know that they were coming. It was going to be a surprise indeed.
As they each ported through to Serenia's docks, Kav could see the cottage in the distance. Her stomach churned and nerves kicked in even further. What was she doing? She could tell that Kaylen had felt uneasy about visiting, and Karak was definitely not going to be a happy and pleasurable guest, Karst and Melanie were the only two truly looking forward to meeting with Alex and his family. It was a huge ordeal indeed.
The group approached the door and Kavanna hesitantly brought her fist to the door, a slight knock at first, then a more booming few after that. She quickly brought her hand to her side, she could feel the sweat forming upon her face due to the extreme nerves she was experiencing.
A few moments passed and finally the grand door was opened slightly to reveal Alora, the eldest sister of the Naraama clan. "Oh! Kavanna, dear! Welcome back! And guests? Ummm...hello everyone." she began, a slight nervous chuckle emitting from her mouth.
"I am SO sorry to be such a bother, but a few of my fam-" Kav began but was interrupted suddenly.
"Hi! I'm Melanie, her brother, Kaylen's, girlfriend! It's such a pleasure to meet you!" the girl exclaimed with a huge grin.
"Heh, well, Alex isn't at home right now and mother should be down any minute. But yes of course, where's my manners. It is no trouble, please, everyone come in and make yourselves at home. Kavanna is pretty much one of our sisters and I'm overjoyed to meet you all!" she said, opening the door to it's widest potential, allowing all the Dovaa to enter.
Kavanna's heart raced as her eyes laid upon Anna eating her breakfast. Anna almost spit up her meal as she saw how many guests had just invaded her home. "Kav, what's the meaning of this!? Bringing your whole family for a visit unannounced? Ugh, I'm not sticking around for this family reunion. See ya!" she said, getting up and grabbing her bow off the counter, attempting to leave. Suddenly, Naomi reached the ground stair and walked into the room.
"Come back this instant Anna, it is very rude to leave without properly being introduced to everyone. Plus, I happen to know you don't have anywhere to be today! This is a surprise and we will treat these guests with respect and kindness, do you understand? Now sit!" she said sternly, warming up as soon as Anna embarrassingly closed the door and sat back down to the table.
"I'm sorry about that, our manners seem to come and go around here. I'm Naomi Naraama. These are my daughters Alora and Anna. Alex, my son, is out at the moment but should be back sometime soon. And you all are?" she inquired.
"It is totally okay, I understand this was so sudden, but we decided to come by for a visit and for my family to meet yours. This is my brother Kaylen, his girlfriend Melanie, and my twin brothers Karst and Karak." Kavanna replied, pointing at each one individually.
"It is very nice to meet you everyone! Now, shall I make some extra breakfast? Who is hungry?" Naomi asked with a smile.
"We could all go for some breakfast I'm sure! Thank you so kindly Ms. Naraama!" Melanie waved with a smile.
The woman laughed, nodding her head and having Alora usher the family into the living room to chat while she concocted a meal for the whole family to enjoy.
Words were passed around, Karst and Melanie having a grand time, Karak easing up to the situation and Kaylen and Kavanna just nervous, hoping everything goes okay between the two families.
Soon, a large platter is delivered to the coffee table, a large helping of Boiled Dragon's Tails and Herb Tea for everyone to enjoy. The dishes are set out and everyone begins to eat, except for Karak. Everyone begins to slurp up the tea and juices, loving every bite of it. Karak is reluctant to try anything given to him by anyone other than a Dovaa. Finally, he gives in, trying the succulent tails, loving every bite. Remorse kicks in for the little Firani Dovaa. All the words he had said earlier about the Orderites being bad news, this wasn't so bad at all. They were definitely welcoming, and even his stubborn, hot headed insight could see that they were trying with all their might to be the best hosts they could. He felt terribly for the things he had said.
The group continues to eat and reminisce on good dragon hunting times and enjoying each others company when the kitchen door flies open. "Mom, Anna, Alora, I'm home!" Alex calls from the kitchen, setting his sword on the table and making his way into the living room. In shock of all the Dovaa, his eyes widened and he began to stammer. "Uhh, what's going on? Kav...hey! It's nice to see you again!" he said.
"Oh, Kav, he is so cute!" Melanie whispered to Kav before anyone could say anything else.
Kavanna began to blush and instantly stood up and ran to his side. "I am so sorry, Melanie and Karst wanted to meet you. But this is my family. Kaylen, Melanie, Karst, and Karak. Guys, this is Alex, my boyfriend." she said, blushing further.
"Oh it is great to finally meet you Alex! I've heard so many wonderful things about you! You truly do make a wonderful couple you and my sister-in-law! Awww, it will be so exciting to see what beautiful babies you guys make together heheh!" Melanie proclaimed.
The room fell silent for a moment, with only Anna and Karak bursting out in laughter to break it all. The couple both blushed considerably more than they already had been due to Mel's comment.
After a few more awkward moments passed, they finally made it passed the laughter and began to discuss more dragon hunts. Especially those taken together by Kav and the other family members.
"Our last dragon hunt together wasn't quite all that I wanted it to be. We weren't able to kill the dragon and it was a terr-" Alex began but was interrupted.
Kavanna interjected, "A terrible loss that doesn't need to be brought up again. Ugh, those bad memories during dragon hunts, right? Damn the Firani, haha. Luckily I was able to go back and beat them later!"
The Ysali Dovaa shot a glare at her boyfriend and the rest of his family. They instantly knew that the subject was in fact, still a sore one that shouldn't be brought up again. From there, they enjoyed the rest of the night together as a group, discussing different events which had transpired over the course of their lives.
The night was coming to a close and Kavanna's family began to leave. "I'm going to stay a bit longer. Don't wait up for me. Thank you guys for coming! It was great to finally have everyone together and getting along! I'll see you guys tomorrow though, I'll come over!" with that, Kav's siblings were gone.
Alora and Anna made their getaways as well and that left Naomi, who had gone to bed hours prior, Alex, and Kav together to tend to the house. They began to clean up what mess they did make and over the course of doing dishes, Alex brought up the situation with the dragon hunt. "So, why didn't you tell your family about the burn? I did notice you kept it covered all night. Why?" he asked.
A short sigh escaped the Dovaa's mouth and she began. "I don't know...I just didn't want them to know I failed so badly. I didn't want them to realize that their older sister could have been killed. And worst of all, I didn't want them to judge me. It's an embarrassment and it shouldn't have occurred in the first place. I'm sorry I kind of took over from then on, but I didn't want them to find out that way. I'll tell them, one day...I can't keep it hidden forever." she explained.
The Orderite understood and just smiled, bringing her in for a hug, telling her that he loved her and that everything would be okay. They finished the dishes and went to the bedroom.
"So, I was quite nervous that my family would embarrass me or that you guys wouldn't get along today. I didn't want to bring them over but Mel and Karst insisted.
"I'm glad you brought them by, I have been wanting to meet them and I'm glad we finally have had that chance. They're good people, even Karak, haha."
"Yeah, he's a hard a** but he is probably the one person who isn't afraid to tell me what I'm doing wrong. He truly cares, I know he does, but I'm just glad everything turned out okay."
"I'm extremely happy for that exact reason. Everything turned out great."
The two began to kiss, and in the next moments, clothes were gone and love was made. A great end to a great day.
Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,
I have this...new found joy within myself. I can't truly explain it, but I am so happy with how yesterday turned out, and today was even better after we got back from our dragon hunt together. Alex is the best and I couldn't ask for a better boyfriend.
» quick run to town
It had been a couple weeks since her family bonding trip to Serenia and all was well since then. Her brothers seemed to have found a new friend in the other family, and the twins even took a trip down to the Serenia docks and had tea with Alora. Kavanna couldn't be more happy to see both sides of the family getting along. She knew her mother and father would likely disapprove of her being with an Orderite, but she didn't care what they had to say, she was almost an Expert and she needed to grow up and do what she wanted to do. They didn't run her life and they hadn't since she was younger. As soon as she was able, she went to the Academy and lived in their dorms. They had no control over her life any longer and she was so quick to remind herself of that.
She was visiting Kaylen and Melanie one day and decided that it was time she leave them alone for the time being. "I'm going to run to the market for supplies for dinner. I'll be back a little later. I need some fresh air! Take advantage of the alone time you two." she said with a laugh as she left the Abode de Dagon where they stayed. Her jacket was on and her collar upright. She wouldn't dare let anyone see her scars yet. It wasn't time. She wasn't ready for such a leap. She just needed to realize that life went on, but she couldn't bare with the constant reminder of failure, and she wasn't so quick to show it off either. Things just wouldn't be the same. It was rare to see someone, unless they were of Firani or Kiandri decent, have large scars such as hers, burn scars, all over their bodies. She just needed to realize that she was beautiful no matter what.
The day became hot, even though it was the fall season, and she began to sweat as she walked down the markets streets. She didn't want to take off her jacket, though she knew that she would overheat and possibly pass out if she didn't have some way of cooling off. She looked around and decided she would take off her jacket and allow the breeze to hit her hot arms and torso.
The break from the jacket seemed to alleviate much of the heat, cooling her down in little time. Then she realized a few different things...the people around her looked at her with wandering eyes. A few with concern, a few with utter disgust. It was as though these people knew that she felt self conscious about the scars on her arm and yet they decide to gawk anyway.
It wasn't long until she decided that maybe keeping the jacket on was the better way to go. She entered a small shop with fruits and vegetables lining the rows. She was about to put on her jacket when a random little Dovaa, no older than seven, came up to her. "What was that on your arm?" he asked her.
Kavanna was taken aback a moment, almost startled by the inquisitive nature of the child. She finished putting on her coat quickly, her cheeks became red as she knelt down to the child's level and explained, "That's my scar from not being careful enough while battling a dragon. When you grow up and start battling dragons, promise me you'll be careful, okay?"
The child looked at her one last time with a wrinkled nose. "It doesn't look pretty. It makes your arm kind of ugly. I hope that doesn't happen to me." he said, turning around and instantly running in the opposite direction towards what was assumed to be his mother, whom he pulled the shirt of and pointed at Kav as she arose from her kneeling position. The woman just gave a look of concern and pushed the child out of the store.
Tears welled up in Kavanna's eyes. It was ugly, why did she even come out? She literally scared the little child away with her burns. Things wouldn't ever be the same, would they? No one understood...no one ever would.
With that, she gathered a few more things, went back to her brother's home, sat the supplies on the table with a note that read,
"Dearest Kay and Mel,
I decided I won't be able to make it to dinner tonight. Something happened at the market and I need to go back to the dorms; but I will come back in the morning. Enjoy the fresh food!
~Kav
"
With that, she was gone back to her dorm where she cried herself to sleep.
» facing the demons
Prompt
Kavanna has gone through a lot in her youth. Now she is growing up a bit and becoming an adult! Though there is one thing that has been standing in her way -- the scar. Her boyfriend and his family know about the tragic events that occurred and rendered the scar, but she has been so self conscious and self criticizing ever since the incident. Why doesn't she tell her family? Why does it bother her so much? Does she decide to tell them; and if so, how does she do it?
Now that isn't the only demon she's faced with. Her parents still have had no contact with her since they have become knowledgeable of her boyfriend being an Orderite. Knowing that she's risking a lot to be with an Orderite, how do her parents react upon first seeing her? How does she feel about the potential threat of being banished?
Another two weeks went by since her market incident. Things hadn't been getting any better at all. Depression was actually overcoming her. She was so happy with her boyfriend and her sibling's approval of him and his family. It was harder and harder to get herself out of bed in the morning to do something worthwhile during the day. She also craved very exotic cuisine lately with no idea why.
There she stood in her dorm room in front of a full length mirror, looking upon her scar in detail; talking to herself about the past few months events, tears welling up and sometimes caressing her cheeks on the way down to her chin. Pacing about the room, she began.
"Ugh what do I do?! This is such a painful reminder of my failure. Dammit! Why did this happen to me? That kid at the market was right, it's just an ugly, disgusting, disgraceful sight. If I show my famly, they'll all know that I just ended up a huge failure during my battles with a Firani. But it's going to come out sooner or later...maybe I should just go get it over with. I can't live like this anymore. I'm too depressed to even leave my dorm room anymore. I haven't spoken to Alex in over a week because I can't bring myself to leave the Celestial Plane any longer. Oh, and that's just another thing I have to worry about. Banishment. ********! Why does love have to be so restrictive? I can't be banished, that's yet another thing my family will be disgraced by. I can't help who I love...was it all just a big mistake though? I mean...do I really love him like I said I did or did the words just come out after he said them to me? My family would never approve of such an action. Having an Orderite for a friend...let alone a boyfriend, fiance, or husband. My parents are so old fashioned. Things are changing around Magesc, people fall in love, whether it's forbidden or not. They can't help that. When I caught eye of him, I just knew there was something extremely special about him. I can't explain it. No...why am I questioning our relationship? It's solid. Nothing will ever come between us. I'd rather spend my life happy with him and be banished than to never see him again and be able to come back and forth to the Celestial Plane as I please. No, no, no. I'm right. We're in love. Nothing is going to stop that. But what do I do about my parents? They'll hate me! Ugh, not like mother doesn't already...but...damn...I just need to go over there and tell them. That's what I'm going to do...tell them the truth about everything."
With that, she grabbed a coat and headed out into the cold, blistery winds towards her parents abode.
A couple hours later she finally arrived at her parents. The sun was about to set and the Celestial Plane skies were beautiful with many majestic colors combined to be the perfect, serene environment. Just as these skies would dissipate into darkness, so would the rest of the peaceful aura into one of dissolution.
Kavanna walked into the kitchen where her mother whipped around quickly. "And where have you been young lady? Messing around with your little Orderite friend I take it?" she inquired the moment she realized it was Kav who walked through the door. Electricity wasn't truly, but could be felt coming off of her presence as she glared at the little Ysali Dovaa.
"You know what? I am absolutely sick of how you treat me. You haven't seen me in over a month and this is how I am greeted? I don't deserve-" Kav began, scoffing.
"Don't deserve what? Being disowned? Because that's exactly what your status is in this family. I can't believe you dare show your face in here after what you did to yourself and how far you've gone to disgrace this entire family! I am sick of the sight of you!"
"
The kitchen fell silent for a while. No words were spoken by either party. Soon, her mother went upstairs to her bedroom, not uttering a word to Kav at all.
A half hour passed and Kavva finally came home from work. His burly self setting his things down on the table before entering the living room in shock of what he saw. "Kav!? What are you doing here? It's great to see you...how have things been?" he asked her suddenly, coming closer to her.
Kavanna just threw herself up off the chair and into her father's arms. She always felt so warm and loved by him, unlike her mother. "Things could be better, honestly. Dad, are you disappointed in me?" she asked.
"Kav...no...I'm not disappointed. I just want you to be safe and happy. You've made me proud thus far in your life. You chose the path of a Ysali and now you're proving to be a great Dovaa. You make me proud every day you come home. I know your mother doesn't make things easy on you, but I just need you to know that you're loved. She's just always stressed out with things going on here at home. Things will be better one day, I promise."
"So...can I talk to you about my boyfriend?" she asked.
"Kavanna, you know how I feel about you dating an Orderite. I shouldn't even have to say it. You could be banished for such actions. Or-"
"I understand, but dad, I'm in love with him and he's in love with me. We're together and there's nothing you or anyone else can do or say to change that fact. If I'm banished from the Celestial Plane, I'll live elsewhere. I just need some minor contact with Marcus to become a Master in the Ysali arts, which is actually doable from the outside as well. I'll be fine...I am safe and I am happy, that's all you need to know."
"Kav..." he began, but then a slamming door could be heard from upstairs.
"Oh, Kavva, you're home, thank the gods! But I see you two have been talking and things are seemingly well. Just so you know, Kavva, your daughter here is likely to be banished because she's dating an Orderite. What a disgrace to our entire family. But I am just giving you a warning. When Ysaride finds out what you've done, you could be banished for good. Do you truly understand what that all entails? You have to leave the Celestial Plane...forever...leaving us to take the heat for your actions! Do you not realize what your stupidity does to affect the rest of us? You selfish little b***h!" she began, wanting to continue, but Kavva stepped in.
"Kathreen, calm down this instant! She hasn't done anything yet and all you're doing is upsetting her. Go make dinner or something, get your mind off of all this, please." Kavva suggests.
"Kaava! How dare you take her side!? I'm your wife! Obviously you don't understand the repercussions of her actions either! Am I the only sane member of this household?" Kathreen scoffed as she left the living room in anger to start cooking dinner for herself and Kavva.
A heavy sigh left the old Dovaa's mouth. "I'm sorry sweetheart. She just doesn't know when enough is enough." he apologized.
Wiping a few tears from her face, Kavaana replied, "I know, she's always been that way. And you shouldn't apologize for her. That isn't your place. She needs to realize what she did all on her own."
Kavva nodded in agreement and Kav continued. "Anyway...dad, there's something else I need to tell you." she said, her heart racing and pounding through her chest.
With a concerned facial expression, Kavanna began to take off her winter coat and reveal the scar on her left arm. Kavva's eyes widened. "What the!? What the hell happened to you!? Are you alright? Have you been checked out by a healer?" he said, instantly coming to the conclusion that she was massively hurt in some way.
"Dad, I'm fine. This happened a few months ago...I just didn't want to show anyone because well...l felt like an utter failure. I was sure everyone would be disappointed in me. I was careless when battling a Firani Dragon and was burned. My boyfriend saved my life. If he wasn't there I wouldn't be here right now. I owe him my life." she said, her green orbs expressing great relief as the weight was lifted from her shoulders.
"I-I don't know what to say...I'm just so glad you're okay. And I'm glad that your friend was there to save you. I'll have to thank him personally one day for saving my baby girl. And I am just so sorry this happened to you. You're not a disappointment to me at all. Quite the opposite. You're brave enough and mature enough to accept the consequences of your actions, which takes an insane amount of courage. I couldn't be a prouder parent right now." he said, giving his daughter a hug.
Suddenly, a call came from the kitchen. "Kavva! Dinner's ready!" the anger still penetrating the ears through her voice.
The two conclude their hug and they reach the kitchen. "I'm not too hungry actually." Kav said as she walked into the kitchen.
"Good, because I didn't make enough for you to eat as well." she said.
The moment that Kav took a whiff of the food, she became physically ill. Her stomach churned and a look of utter disgust grew upon her face. She charged off to the bathroom before anyone could say a word. Her parents were left in shock, wondering what had happened.
A few moments passed. Kavanna stood up from the toilet and wiped off her face with a wet rag, gazing into the mirror. "What the hell was that? I've never had that happen to me before...my mother's cooking isn't that bad. Ugh, now I have a headache. What's going on with me?" she said, splashing some water on her face and drying it with the hand towel.
A few deep breaths later, Kav decided to return to the kitchen where she now saw her twin brothers sitting at the table alongside her parents. Both of them looked up at her and greeted her with a hearty hello at the same time before continuing their consumption.
"What the hell was that all about? Running out like that? Where's your manners?" her mother asks rudely.
"I honestly have no idea where that came from. I'm sorry. I just need to go lay down. Enjoy the rest of your dinner." she said, returning to the living room couch and falling asleep.
~~~~~

What seemed to be only a few moments passed and Kav awoke to see her mother sitting across on the chair beside her. Kav jumped up to a seated position and her mother instantly started to interrogate her.

"Your father and brothers have gone to bed. He told me about your scar and how it happened. That's what you get for choosing the weakest race among the Dovaa. But that doesn't matter. The reason I'm here is to let you in on a little secret. I know why you instantly ran off to the bathroom tonight during dinner. You and that damn Orderite have had sex, haven't you? You're pregnant aren't you? So help the gods, if you say yes to either or both of those statements, I will have the guards called on you at once. I don't care how that reflects on me. I've been pregnant before, obviously, and I know how a woman reacts to food. You're pregnant...dammit Kavanna, you shouldn't be messing around with Orderites or Oblivionites. UGH! You're just a huge disappointment to this whole family! First you show off your failures with the dragons and now this? You sicken me. Don't show your face around here again. I want you out of my sight by the morning. I won't call the guards on you simply because you're my daughter. Not this time. Take my mercy and run with it before I change my mind. But so help me if you are hiding that secret. Don't come around here again. You'll be sorry if you do. Goodnight."

With that, she didn't even allow Kav to speak, all Kav could do was cry. Kathreen rolled her eyes and pounded up the stairs to her bedroom, leaving the Ysali Dovaa in the dark. Kav gathered her things and escaped into the night back to her dorm. Oh, how she hated her mother. She truly did. There was nothing more to do but cry.

» ashen city market

Kavanna and Alexander on a date to Ashen City's market! The two were stopped by a photographer who decided to take their photograph and give them a copy. Now, Kavanna keeps it by her bedside in a dark cherry wood frame, matted with white and a non-reflective glass. Her most prized possession.
