Alka Masaomamono

"Mmh. Humans are all alike, don't trust merfolk at all, and we've gotten our reasons not to like you humans either. All you people want is to take our lands and sell us into slavery to the obese bubbleheads that somehow claim themselves to be better than everyone else. At least, that's what one of them said before I got annoyed with him and crushed him. Why would you people even deal with such pathetic weaklings?" Alka paused, head turning. Someone was poking around the entrance of her tunnel. Not of any concern yet, as the water would indeed prevent any serious threats from getting in. Still, definitely not a welcome presence. She let a low growl from her throat out before turning back to the light source where she figured Sunny would be. "I don't think everyone has a little good in them. Most "beings" I run across are rotten to the core, and are best used for making coral reefs with. After they're dead. The townsfolk are eager to get rid of me. I know why, but it isn't my fault the fish prefer the shallower, warmer waters. I happen to be a fish, after all. So, if you came to make peace, why are you still here? Clearly, if I wanted you dead, you would either be scurrying back from whence you came.....or sinking to the bottom. Of the cavern, that is....or my stomach, depending. It's getting late, and my thoughts are roaming towards getting rid of intruders and staying out. I'm surpised that the people up there haven't bribed someone with enough beli to get rid of me. Not that many could. Anyway, you're free to leave, though I'm not sure you'll find whereever it is you came from. It's dark in here. I know it by current where my entrance is. You did come to...apologize, or something close to it. If you want, I'll take you outside and leave you at the island. Probably your best option at the moment, but I'd understand why you wouldn't. Either way, I'm running out of options. Fish aren't as plentiful this year, and they're too small here. Now grand line on the other hand.....especially on the bottom. Er, well...yeah. So I'll wait for you to make up your mind before I do go, but beyond that, I think we're basically done here."

xxxxxSunny was a bit confused. Did that mean she was going to leave? Did that mean... it worked? Or...? "See? You said not all people have good in them, but you're definitely not as bad as the people think you are. Maybe if you talked to them, things would work out for you!" Sunny smiled brightly. "If there's anything I've learned here it's that you're not a monster." Sunny hesitated, thinking back on her previous statement. "While it is wrong for people to sell any other creature into slavery, maybe they simply lack the understanding to respect them..." Sunny shook her head, dispersing her off-topic thoughts. "Well... I guess if you're going to be leaving the island there's no use for me to stay and bother you. Don't worry about taking me back, I can get out the same way I came in."

Alka Masaomamono

"Ehh? What gave you the idea that I'm leaving the island? While I do know that it's not exactly the place to have the warm welcome doormat rolled out for me, there's nothing those people can do by themselves to get rid of me. I'm just going out to go looking for food and give them time to get over their small selves. I have no intention of leaving. It's warm, I've got food, and no one bothers me to persecute me like the racists they are. Why would I leave?" Alka seemed to throw a wrench into Sunny's assumption that she'd convinced Alka to leave, proverbially speaking, anyway. It would make no sense to abruptly leave somewhere where all the amenities of "home" could be found. Food, shelter, and comfort...what else was there? Why desert all that for nothing?

xxxxxSunny blinked. "Well, sure you have food, shelter and warmth, but aren't you lonely?" Sunny wasn't really trying to persuade her at this point, simply trying to understand. Living alone on an island where she was hated and talked about didn't sound like a home, more like a hell. But then, Sunny wasn't Alka, and vice versa. There could be some secret tie that held the mermaid to this island. "You live in a cave alone... no one on this island even knows your name; they didn't even know you were an intelligent creature until I got here! Don't you want to have friends? Or an adventure?"

Alka Masaomamono

A flat, "are you serious" gaze greeted Sunny's words at first, before the eyes shifted to look elsewhere. "I've been lonely since I was ten. I've done it for sixteen years. In my travels from home, I've never encountered anyone, human, merfolk, or bubblehead that tolerates me. I fit nowhere." Alka began, pondering more on Sunny's words. How to put it without sounding desperate? How to say it without getting hopeful? So difficult. "It's better that they don't know my name or my face. There would be nothing either of us gain from an alliance or partnership. Nor do I think any services I could offer to anyone would be worth even looking at. So, while I want to be something more, there is nothing else in this world big enough for me that will bear its company with me. The sea, and the sea kings are the only larger things in this world, and neither of which will speak with me, or can speak with me. Honeycomb Island is where I found and settled in almost two years ago and up until today, I have not been truly disturbed. There is nothing worse than a being who cannot do what it is naturally gifted to do, or provide that of which it cannot provide., which is what I am. Besides, no one can really be friends with me. I live here, in a primarily water-filled cavern, and spend most of my time underwater. Fishmen and other mermaids are afraid of me, and what else is there that would stay? What's the point of going? So I can be ridiculed throughout the seas, instead of just this one?"

xxxxxSunny looked at her feet. "I'm sorry... and I know it's not something you need to hear but..." Sunny took a deep breath; sometimes, this part of talking to people really sucked. She hated to say it, but... "You're lonely because you want to be. Or, rather, you've brought it on yourself. If you didn't destroy every ship that came through here, and if you didn't act like a monster, people won't treat you like one!" Sunny took a deep breath and looked back at Alka, "You isolate yourself here; have you ever tried talking to the people on this island? You talk like you're so mistreated and you never get the respect you deserve, but respect is something you have to earn and give in return!" Sunny hesitated, afraid of how the girl would react. At this point, Sunny was sure she didn't want to fight the mermaid. "And... if it counts for anything... you've got a friend in me, now."

Alka Masaomamono

Every word, it hit like it were from her mother. It hit true, and deep. Alka ducked out of the light's sphere, and was quiet for a while. Eventually, one could hear quite easily the sound of air being drawn in and exhaled through clenched teeth, a very distinct hissing noise. It was fairly fast in its pace, and it was almost a right on the head "you're right" tension. Alka didn't want to admit it, and wouldn't give that kind of admission. Who was this human to think so anyway!? Like she ever had to deal with being really unnatural, what room did she have to talk!?!? In a rising, choked voice, Alka nearly screamed her next words. "Like YOU would know, human!" With that, Alka twisted and dove below the surface of the water, slamming her tail against supports and walls. The water churned an angry brown as Alka exited quite forcefully. Tearing down the supports and some of the walls left the entire cavern collapsing down on itself, and part of the island would come down into the sea.

Outside, Alka's white form darted through to the southeast, thrashing through and flat-out destroying whatever got in her direct line. Waves were sent crashing into the port, threatening to submerge it and capsize every ship there. It shot off down into the deep, and was quickly lost to sight as she hugged the bottom. Friends, what friends!?! If that's what friends do, then I don't WANT any!! How...how could she!!? Alka's eyes produced small chains of bubbles as she furiously vented to herself. If Sunny had really wanted Alka gone, it worked. The giant mermaid had no plans on ever returning, now with that painful memory burning itself into her mind. Off she sped, veering northeast, towards the calm belts and grand line. There were no humans there who would again drive her away, surely not. Of course, there were a few islands to go along the way...perhaps there would be one that was deserted.

xxxxxSunny frowned. She was hoping Alka would take it maturely. Well, when someone told you something like that, it had a tendency to hurt. A lot. So, it was understandable. Sunny just hoped that Alka would forgive her one day, for intruding upon her den and telling her what she needed to hear. Though, she was really hoping she'd get a chance to be Alka's friend. Sucking in a deep breath, Sunny 'eep'ed when the walls started to crumble and fall. Much worse, the glow from her board was getting weaker and weaker; the sun must be going down. Sunny urged the board up the tunnel which she came, ignoring the falling stones all around her. Alka had done quite a job in destroying what used to be her home. Sunny made it halfway up the tunnel before her board got slower. The same invincible tug nagged at her consciousness, pulling her deeper and deeper into sleep. The board shattered, and the last of the light disappeared. Sunny, already unconscious, started to fall back down the tunnel, where she'd surely meet a watery grave...

---- and thus day turns to night ----

xxxxx"Baka." While Sunny couldn't hear it, the familiar voice belonged to her twin sister, Luna. Upon waking and finding herself in a lonely boat, she'd taken the fifteen minutes when the sun and moon floated side by side to ask where Sunny was; that's when she met a man named Shinji who showed her the tunnel. And that was how she was now holding her sister bridal style, floating on her own sufboard of milk white. Luna whizzed out of the tunnel and into the old tool shed; but she didn't stop there. She kept floating until she was outside in the moonlight until she came to a dead stop, holding her sister. "You idiot. How do you always manage to time it perfectly so I have to clean up your mess?"

"Yeah, I guess this place will do for training. I was hoping for more ice, but it'll do." Luci said before removing her top shirt leaving just her white tank top. "This place is bloody hot. I hate it." Luci complained.

"I guess. Let's just get on with it though. I need to learn to fight in this heat anyways." Luci half way mumbled before jumping off of the ship onto the sand. Luci nearly fell down after a few steps. "Why is sand so unstable!? I can barely walk a few steps before I fall over!" Luci complained.

"Well you haven't exactly been living in the snow for ten years now have you!" Luci said, still wobbling around trying to find a grip in the sand.
