According to 20/20, I'm told, the earthquake in Japan has shifted the Earth's axis by about 30 cm or so...
Does anyone have a link as a reference? I'd like to see more on this...

And so, it seems, this is a kind of common thing which happens in major earthquakes...
*Rolls over and pulls rock over like a blanket and falls asleep.*

What happened to it being the 7th?
I've also heard that the main island of Japan was shifted 8 ft to the east, and that the 8.9 "earthquake" is actually-- believe it or not-- an AFTERSHOCK, not the main eq. They had one a few days ago, and it's not uncommon for aftershocks to be bigger than the main eq.
Aaaaannnnd... Oh, yes! The state of South Carolina lies on a fault line, which by the way is more than a century overdue for "the Big One". Something I've heard since middle school, and kinda bothered me when I heard about it. Not persistently, but yeah. >.>; Not something I'm looking forward to... (That's in my general area, not just Charleston... oh, and Adrian's. ^^; Hi, Adrian! Aren't you the one living/ working with those reeeeeaally tall buildings?) crying
@Chibi Usagi: It's okay, it's perfectly normal. The earth readjusts itself afterwards and goes back to normal. It's actually not anything to worry about. Like when you have a cut, or a broken arm.

If the ground starts shaking up here, something is definitely wrong. HououMinamino I saw pictures of the whirlpools. I nearly fell off my chair in shock. All the damage...it is heartbreaking to see. It is. Seeing footage of the damage the tides caused in California wasn't very fun either. Oh yeah, and Gaia's set up three new items for donations to the Red Cross as well, in the form of a $1, $5, and $10 item. They're available in the Cash Shop right now. In other news: I'm getting annoyed with people in the Pokemon forum spreading the rumor that Satoshi Tajiri, Pokemon's creator, is dead. Game Freak has not made any announcements about this.

I donated to the Red Cross through Gaia. I may donate more. I find it appropriate that the items are named after the goddess of compassion and mercy.

I think I might donate through my church. I'm sure they've got an earthquake/tsunami relief effort going by now.

I have heard from the family that I stayed with last year. They are fine. May we all hope for the best of them and their loved one. It's still awful. I didn't want to look while I was at work today, but I couldn't keep away. Who know if and when I will go back

I'm going to attempt to donate, my fund$ are kinda tight right now though so I'm limited in what I can do. emo
@ Cronus - Turns out that there are conflicting reports on exactly how big the quake was, the highest number was 9.1 which makes it jump up a few on the list.

The official number is 8.9. It ranged all over the place for a little while, but they all settled on 8.9 Anyway, funds are tight for me too, but I'm still gonna try to get some GC and donate that way. I already donated 20 via cell phone.

Yeah, I'm going to do some free GC offers... it won't be much, but it's the best I can do. Just clicking on those links support their respective websites, and Gaia gets money from it as well, so it will at least be a contribution.

HououMinamino Jusu Kilappa Right now I'm most worried about the situation at the nuclear power plant. If things really DO get ******** up and we face the worst case scenario, we'll be facing another Chernobyl, perhaps even worse this time. I am going to be hoping and praying that something like that doesn't happen. This is really scary. Could that affect all of Japan? Current news claim that the world might have to face a second nuclear disaster similar to Chernobyl in 1986. If nature is with us, the winds should blow out towards the Pacific, away from most population. Still, Chernobyl was severe, as it affected a large part of Europe.

For anyone who doesn't know, Chernobyl was bad. The only way you can "visit" it is with google maps. (I've done it before, it's eerily abandoned.) I know the Japanese government keeps evacuating the area around the power plant, last I checked the situation was going from bad to worse. Apparently the control room is radioactive now.
