I'm known as the director's wild card in my choir. I've been in band for four years, and can sight read quite well, and also end up learning the other sections' parts randomly when she's teaching them, so if we end up short a person or two in a certain section, I'm always called to switch into that section.

[Shattered]x[Glass] I'm known as the director's wild card in my choir. As long as someone plays or I play the first note on a piano, I can. I took piano lessons for a couple years and voice lessons, so, yeah, I can.

I can sight read well enough. My choir teacher makes us all learn, if you can't sight read, well you're screwed in my choir. Most of the time when we get new music, we go over it once just sight reading, and we do okay, so I guess I can kind of sight read. If you give me a note, then I can usually sing the rest of the song from that because I can do intervals. If I didn't know that, I'd be screwed. ^^

I can sight read, thanks to years of piano.....
About half the kids who join choir in 6th grade can sight-read. Our director doesn't teach though, since a lot of them have band or music as electives. If they don't, well, than they just sing by ear.

I cant sight read to save my life. sweatdrop
I lose all my points at competitions on it (At least I do well on my solos). I work at it all the time, but it always goes wrong.
One day, one day.

I learned the patterns to traditional Bass parts at first but that grew into sight reading. Now I can even do tenor. Gasp!

in my school, the concert chorus im in is ok....but the sight reading sucks. the altos are outnumbered and most of the sapranos cant get past a high C without screeching, but refuse to go to alto. it does help to know how to play an instrument though for sight reading...ive been playing the piano for about 4 years and my sight reading has definitly improved.
also, taking a music theory course helps. i dunno how it is in other schools, but mine isn't an AP course anymore so it's a tad watered down. (the only downside to that is that the druggie people can take the class) XD
