Interesting topic. I say, find what you know to be the truth. When you hear something & you know it's right, then follow that. If you have any doubts or if you feel guilty, then it's probably not right for you. & if you want to follow that way & you doubt it, then ask yourself why you doubt it & look for reasons & information about that aspect. Do your best to understand & then you will find what you are looking for. Islam taught me this, if that's worth anything to anyone here. I was an atheist for a long time, but it didn't feel right, there was something missing. I tried to become a Christian, but it didn't feel right, there was too much that contradicted. I tried being agnostic, it didn't feel right, it was too based upon what I did or didn't want which led to uncertainties. I decided to read about Islam (as a purely informational study) & I found what I know to be the truth. I didn't expect it, but it was there & I couldn't deny it (I could have, but I couldn't have lived with myself for that). Always search to know...that's my best advice.

You dont have to believe in the Christian God if you dont want to.
There is a large assortment of other beliefs sets you can adapt to.
OR you could just follow your own.

Anyways, I see no point in believing in a cookie cutter shaped religion where everyone believes the same. Its better if you take the pieces you agree with and go with them. Since every human life has a different thought process, we all shouldnt have the same belief system.

Religions shouldn't be exactly the same for everyone, but at the same time if someone forms a religion based only on what they like, then all that religion comes down to is that person. It's not about anything important, personalized religion is only about the person who created it, so you end up with nothing more then you started with. It doesn't work./

It worked for me. neutral
I just did a lot of time introspecting and reading up on other religious beliefs to figure out my own personalized religion.
I had grown too. I started off with little belief and ended up feeling more sane.
Not to be offensive at all but...It's still based all around you, and you're a temporal being. I'm glad it helped you, but it just seems to me it's a little shallow for a religion to revolve around a single person's worldview. Religion shouldn't be like designing your room, or making a great profile. It should be about Truth and something deeper then the person practicing it. You have you at the beginning, so shouldn't you try to end up with that and something more important too?

If it matches her personal beliefs than it is her.
That would be as to say you want to be Christian because you like the stories and you can say homosexuality is a sin without being scolded.

Except then you'd be wrong. XD It wouldn't matter if you said or thought that about me, because the truth of it is I'm a Christian because of my revelations, and not because all the beliefs fit me perfectly. If I wanted a religion based on what I liked, I'd probrably choose a religion that focused on nature, and could be molded to fit me exactly. I'm looking for the Truth though, so personalized religion doesn't work for me.

That was a what if when talking about you. >_>
I'm just saying if a religion matches your beliefs, go for it.

P.S. Your looking more for the comforting truth, if anything.
Not even truth even.

And I'm just saying people can do that, but it's not going to mean that much. >.>

PS-XD Based on what?

I don't see why not. I rather have a religion that shares my beliefs then go to a religion because "Allah called me".

-------

Because, as I recall in topic about what people would do if you discovered evidence against God, your answer was you would deny it. That's not truth.

It'd depend. If it was a truth that would really negatively impact how I lived and thought (like discovering God didn't exist), then I'd definitely look for any evidence that it wasn't true, and quite possibly go into denial. If it was simply uncomfortable (like reading how the Bible refers to us as servants), then I'd deal. If it was something like the former, I'd stop debating about it.

A religion should be something more then just a personal reflection of what ideas seem nice to you...or maybe that's what sets Christianity apart. In Christianity, it's supposed to be about God, not you. What He's doing, the fact He created this amazing universe, how to serve Him, how He loves you, etc. I don't know that other religions are like that.

I think I've said it before, but without God my life would cease to mean anything to me, and I wouldn't bother with it anymore. So yeah, I value God more then I value truth. As an idea, I value truth more then almost any other, but God's alive, and He Saved me, and I know I don't always get things right. No one does. So even if it seems to me like God might not exist, I don't put much stock in that, because 1) I'd lose purpose, and 2) there is a very good chance I'm not factoring something into whatever idea is making me doubt, and am therefore wrong. Besides, I owe Him my life for Saving me. If God's not real, I'll admit it when I'm dead. :3
Kudos for bringing that up though. XD

Why should you turn your back on God? Do you think he wants you to suffer innocently? Not everything that happens in life is Gods will. Was it his will for Lucifer to rebel against Him in heaven? Was it even his will for cane to kill able in the field out of jealousy? Don't get me wrong, God can control every little detail in life but what kind world what that be if we were all just robots going with the program? Give your life back to God and He will restore your soul though we are all sinners. He still loves though you may not have always loved him.

I do feel bad for you because I wouldn't know what I would do if that happened to me, but I certainly wouldn't give up my faith. No one knows why, but God does everything for a reason, i don't know what reason, but God knows the best thing. Giving up on God is not the right thing to do. I can't explain to you why things like this happen, but maybe a priest or even your family can explain this to you, if their Christian.

Ben Rack
i was raised christian till 12 my mom and dad died in a car accident going to the store i never really paid attention to god after that now i just dont see why i should even believe in a god who kills people and if they didnt love him burns them for eternity

Exactly. That's why you shouldn't believe. He's selfish and arrogant. "Worship me or burn?" Are you kidding me? No thanks.
