NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH!

A bizarre scene unfolded earlier this evening at Destiny City Luchadome as local pro wrestling legend Don Diablos captivated his audience with another one of his iconically violent victories, taking out both of his sworn rivals -- the Angelic Avenger and Pelvis Chestly -- in a cinematic brawl wrestling fans are already sure is going to go down in history as one of the most action and catchphrase-packed battles of the 21st century.

Unfortunately, with great spectacle comes great controversy. The Don Diablos Fanclub is split between two opposing factions of opinion with regard to this fight: some are actually concerned that this round, he may have gone too far.

Wrestling Federation members and spectators alike cite a curious change (or, more accurately, exaggeration) in the luchadore's rancorous behavior that can be traced back to the moment he claimed this season's championship belt. Footage of this event shows him flying into an uncontrollable berserker rage -- going so far as to throw the referee at the audience and stomp the floor of the ring hard enough to break holes in it -- the very instant his hands were on it.

Could it be that he's been corrupted by power? Youtube videos and discussion forums are rife with theories about what has happened to the former hero: the wildest of which claim that he has been cursed by an evil spirit residing in the championship belt itself. Indeed, the belt is more extravagant than the norm, complete with a strangely lustrous gem set into the leather... but most look upon this idea with a critical eye.

The Angelic Avenger has since been released from the hospital and promises he'll be back in the ring in time for Christmas. Pelvis Chestly remains in critical condition with several rib fractures and a blow to his ankle that may mean he will never dance again.

What's this?

User Image

You are a senshi on patrol in the dark streets of Destiny City.

You have been battling all night.

Exhausted and weary, you prepare to head home when a shadowed figure approaches you.

The robed stranger makes a simple introduction and commends you on your battle prowess.

Do you want to change the world? Do you have what it takes to raise the battle cry? Can you succeed where others before you have failed?

An invitation slips into your hand, sealed in bright red with a crescent moon stamp.

Inside, there is a letter written in fine golden calligraphy on crisp white paper and signed in what your nose tells you may very well be blood:

The Blood Moon Queen cordially invites you to prove your worth. The senshi of Destiny City are prepared to raise the mantle against those dark forces that seek to destroy us and our world. Will you stand with us?

The weak shall not apply. Only the strong may enter.

After a few short words, a murmured address, a night just a few days away, and a little added assurance of your skill, the robed figure departs, leaving you alone with an odd letter and an even odder feeling of what great road might be stretching out before you.

Will you answer the challenge? Can you be the savior that Destiny City has needed for so long?

Then come prove yourself to the Blood Moon Court.

NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH!

If you're living in Destiny City, chances are your life isn't easy right now. Worse yet, you don't even need the news to remind you of this anymore: it seems like every day you come across another city street that's been wrecked, or another building that's been abandoned. Maybe you wonder some days if it's a good idea to go outside, to keep going to school. Maybe you wonder if it's a good idea to keep living in this town at all. Or... perhaps, maybe you wince a little, or pat yourself on the back a little, whenever you see the evidence of your own handiwork going down the street. Whatever the case, your life isn't normal. And neither is anyone else's. Living in this town is all the comfort and thrill of living in the city, but with ten times the normal amount of problems.

However, as much as they press on your daily life and affect how you go about it -- from what streets you take during the day to when and how you get home at night -- all thoughts of these problems disappear from your mind completely when one morning, you take a glance out the window to discover Destiny City completely transformed.

It's snowing.

The people doing the weather reports are all baffled and somewhat amused by the overnight drop in temperature that made this happen, but amidst them all no one is complaining. It's the first snowfall of the season, just in time to set the atmosphere for the holidays. Every inch of the town is covered in a picture-perfect sheet of pristine, sparkly white, as if someone had come in over the night and carefully put every single flake into its proper place.

It's made the scenery outside look refreshingly like something from a postcard -- and the clouds are still thick up above, gently sprinkling more feathery flurries to the ground once in a while.

It's been about a week since you won your snowglobe (an ironic consolation prize to have gotten in a wrestling match, now that you think about it), and that's around enough time for the novelty of it to have started wearing off. You may have played around with it a little bit before, but all that did was confirm to you it was just a mundane, albeit unusual-looking, trinket to fill up shelf space. And a normal snowglobe can only be entertaining for so long. Lately it's just been sitting somewhere in your room or shoved unceremoniously into a drawer, looking pretty and perhaps collecting a bit of dust.

But sometimes, you have to forget about something in order to start noticing it all over again. On one day when you have the spare time and nothing better to do, the snowglobe suddenly crosses your mind again. You take it down from the shelf it was on, or pull it down from the drawer it was buried in -- and upon taking another customary good look at it, your eyes catch something about it you had overlooked before.

There's a tiny windup key incorporated into the snowglobe's base, just barely big enough to work your fingers around. You have to flip it completely upside down in order to be able to wind it properly, but you realize soon enough that was something whoever designed this was counting on.

The moment you set it back down, the spectacle begins.

Over the soft whirring of the clockwork inside, the snowglobe starts clicking out a paced series of music-box notes that put together an unusual tune. It's not a Christmas carol, or any familiar song at all for that matter. In spite of this, though, it's catching, nostalgic -- the sort of simple soothing tune that might be used as a lullaby. The pretty little figure within slowly rotates on her pedestal to the music, catching handfuls of sparkling snowflakes in her outstretched hands. The sight is somehow very captivating. Perhaps it's because it seems to remind you of how you felt the first time you ever saw it snowing outside.

Sadly -- sadly? -- the little performance doesn't last for long, and after a few moments the tinny song and dance start to slow to a halt. When the last snowflake settles to the bottom, and the last note rings through the air, the silence and stillness that follow are, for some reason, a bit disheartening.

What is this?

User Image

As you finish your patrol, two dark figures step out of the shadows ahead of you. Rather than attack you, they softly call out for you to not worry. They've been watching you and they're here to help. The taller of the two hands you a strange leaf with a small scrap of paper tied to it. You examine the leaf first, surprised to find it silvery underneath and several lovely shades of purple-y blue on top. It also has a strange, peppery, but wholesome smell to it. Only once you've finished examining the leaf do you turn your attention to the paper. In clear, crisp lavender ink, you read the following:

Mana, the Court of Redemption welcomes you. We understand your struggles as no other can. We know that you're heartsick and tired of mindless violence. Of meaningless death. That you are still searching for our Princess. We know you've been searching for a better way.

We are that way. Join us.

After you finish reading the note, the taller of the two figures leans down and whispers instructions into your waiting ear. They are directions to a meeting place that must be kept secret. Once sure that you understand, the two warmly embrace you, promise to see you later and fade back into the shadows, leaving you to ponder the leaf in your hand and feel a small thrill of hope in your heart.

Mana is here.

It has only been a few days since Imperium Greetings announced and opened its holiday promotional event, and they're already celebrating giving out their hundredth snowglobe. You and everyone you know seems to have at least one of these things. Some of you have several. For some reason one just isn't enough, and neither is two, or three -- there is something about them... something special about them, you're certain... and because of that, for some reason or another, you're inclined to keep collecting more.

And keep them safe.

That last bit becomes comes to light one day when you're going about your usual routines: leaving for school, coming home from work, preparing a meal or getting ready for bed. Whatever the case, your thoughts and hands are somehow occupied, and your absentmindedness leads to clumsiness. It was only a matter of time before the brushing of an elbow, or a careless swipe of the hand, met with one sparkling member of your snowglobe collection and sent it hurtling towards the floor.

Thankfully, one of two things happen: you either catch it just in time, or the impact isn't quite enough to do any damage. The snowglobe is safe. Your composure might not be, however. For some reason, the thought of any of them breaking is terribly unsettling.

NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH!

It's snowing again.

Over the past couple of weeks, it never quite got warm enough for the snow already on the ground to melt very much. It did, however, get kicked and pushed around quite a lot, snowplows moving it off of the roads and sidewalks and people of all ages leaving footprints of all shapes and sizes. The pristine, sparkling sheet of snow that had covered Destiny City had been torn apart, run ragged -- and it was almost as if Mother Nature was scolding her children for soiling her clean linens, as one morning people would look outside to see that it had snowed enough -- just enough -- for all the footprints to be filled back in, all the ridges to be smoothed out, all the dirt and grime to be covered up.

Back to a beautiful winter wonderland without a single blemish in sight, even if only for a few moments.

The weather reports also note another sudden drop in temperature that means this batch won't be melting anytime soon either. A chill, harsh wind bursts through the air once in a while, spraying flurries in people's faces and making it a bit unpleasant to be outside even if you're fully bundled up.

The windows of the Imperium Greetings storefront have been decorated with banners commemorating not just one, but two hundred snowglobes having been awarded to customers -- only a week since celebrating its first big milestone. It's generated the previously unheard-of store quite a bit of publicity and revenue, at any rate, and the traffic there hasn't slowed down at all since the day it opened its doors. People show up day after day in hopes of winning the coveted prize for themselves... and, curiously enough, many of those who win are familiar faces who already have one or two. Or three.

No matter how many you get, you still can't help but want more. The ones you own seem to grab your attention for at least a few moments a day somehow: whether it's just a glance at them to see if they're still there, or sitting down and winding them up to hear the song time after time, they're in the back of your mind fairly often and come to the front of it once in a while. There's something about them, you just know it.

You're not quite sure about what that something is... just that the thought brings about a sad longing, like the song does.

You've started daydreaming.

Focusing on your day-to-day life is starting to get difficult. Occasionally you find yourself lost in occasional, melancholy flights of fancy, even if you're not usually the type to mentally drift off. It's almost -- but not quite -- like being afflicted with a mild case of lovesickness... your gaze drifts upward occasionally, and it's not easy to bring your thoughts back down to Earth on evenings when the clouds above break up just enough for you to catch a glimpse of the moon.

NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH!

It was a clear day this morning when you went out. Unusually clear, even, for the weather the city has been having, and the forecast said nothing about there being even a single smudge in the sky during this rare day of sunshine. It looked like it was going to be a perfectly beautiful day, albeit a bit cold. Unfortunately, as weather reports often go... this one was terribly, terribly wrong.

The first wisps of clouds settled in around lunchtime. The sun was completely erased from view by the early afternoon. And by the time school had let out and everyone was ready to head home, the snowstorm hit.

Not five minutes into it, it was already the most snow many citizens of Destiny City had ever seen: leaving parking lots was almost impossible. Visibility was utterly terrible, and the act of steeping outside for just a few minutes ended you up covered just about head-to-toe in the stuff. The wind was horrendous, howling over the city like it was mourning a lost child, swirling flurries of thick snowflakes into miniature cyclones that assaulted the legs of people running from their cars to get into their homes. People all over glued themselves to their radios, their news stations, their weather websites -- looking for signs of whether this was going to get better or worse, getting updates on school closings, praying they weren’t going to suffer a power outage in all this mess.

You glance out the window occasionally to see if the blizzard shows any signs of stopping, or if you should bring out some corn for popping... since you’ve no place to go, you might as well watch it snow, right? Then, suddenly -- out of the corner of your eye, you swear you catch the sight of something odd. A figure.

It was probably just a trick of the storm... but a second later you catch another. And on the other side of the cityscape, another. Unless there were some serious additives in your hot chocolate, there’s no doubt about it: there is something other than snow falling from the sky.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

As you continue to watch them, they come more and more into focus. They’re not just falling from the sky -- they’re doing it rather gracefully, skating and twirling down on flurries of snow like ethereal ballerinas. When they finally touch the ground they dance out of sight, leaving curling trails of frost in their wake.

What were these beings, you wonder? Fairies... snow angels? Something else entirely? Whatever they are, there’s one thing for certain: this holiday season is about to get a lot more interesting.

It's the voice that catches you off-guard.

You honestly can't quite place when you heard it. It's almost more like you suddenly remembered you had, the thought snapping you awake out of whatever you had occupied yourself with. For the past week or so it's been jarringly easy to slip into the occasional daydream, that song from the snowglobe-music box always ringing in the back of your head, making your fingers itch to wind them all up and hear them play in a melancholy tandem repeat. It's almost like they're trying to share their mysterious nature with you when you do. You feel -- you've been feeling sort of... connected to them somehow, which is an odd way to put things, but it doesn't make it any less true.

It's to the point where your daydreams aren't always during the day anymore. The shape of your dreams at night has changed just a little bit as well. Just a little movement in the corner of your eye, a figure standing on the edges of the scenery: at some point before you wake up, you always just barely catch the sight of a beautiful maiden, faded and blurred around the edges... you can't remember much else of her besides that she's always there, with a sweet demeanor and soulful blue eyes.

Maybe it's because it's winter, and the weather has been absolutely exhausting and you have time to kill on your holiday break, but it has gotten easier -- and quite a bit more tempting -- to sleep in a little longer, or take a nap or two during the day. You're just tired. The warmth of the indoors is a welcoming atmosphere. And, perhaps, just a small part of you wants to see that girl again. It's the closest you've felt to... whatever it is you've been trying to find... since you first discovered that the snowglobe could play that song.

But it never quite crosses your mind that it might not be you dreaming that girl up, until that moment when your brain registers that voice.

I'll be here soon...

With every wind of the music box, you swear you're starting to hear something else, something different. It's difficult -- impossible -- to believe, but there it is, rising over the tinny notes: a voice. That voice. The voice you've heard in your dreams.

The voice of that pretty, blue-eyed girl...

Even long after it fades, you can't help but wind it up over, and over, and over again, in the hopes that maybe she'll say something else. However, she is silent once again, and for the rest of the night your efforts are only rewarded with repeated plays of the song you haven't been able to get out of your head for days.
